Tigers face Cotchin suspension
Jesse Hogan
May 30, 2011
RICHMOND'S disappointment at squandering the chance to break into the top eight before this week's bye could be compounded by the suspension of elite midfielder Trent Cotchin.
Cotchin, who before the round was in the top 20 in Brownlow Medal betting, heads the list of players likely to be scrutinised by the match review panel today in its weekly review.
The 21-year-old showed his anger at a lingering tackle by Port Adelaide's Kane Cornes on Saturday night by jabbing the veteran Power midfielder in the midriff.
Even though Cornes was not inconvenienced by the strike, the classification of the incident as intentional, or at best reckless, should be enough to ensure a suspension.
The expected penalty, 125 points, would be inflated to 175 because of the 40 per cent loading for the four-match ban Cotchin received for charging North Melbourne's Sam Wright in round 16 last year.
When combined with the 25 carryover points on his record, Cotchin's overall penalty would be 200 points - a two-game ban if not overturned at the tribunal or a one-week ban with 50 carryover points with an immediate guilty plea.
Cotchin, in that case, would miss the round-12 trip to Sydney, and potentially the round-13 trip to Brisbane.

Just great, anything else? to hamper us against the swans? :banghead
-
Fancy getting suspended for having a poke at the most gutless lily-livered AFL player going around. Still remember his dive when Hall shaped at him a couple of years back. Squib.

That's a lot more attention on an incident that usual for a news report.
Cotchin is a fan favourite and the Tigers sell papers. :P
He'll get off.

Jon Ralph thinks Cotch is very lucky ....

First they put Kane Cornes on the DVD as a known diver then they clear Cotch of hitting him when he seemed to drop him. Big break for Cotch
-
Why are they all trying to stitch up Cotch?

Ablely assisted by serial diver and award winning actor Kane Cornes :lol :lol
I reckon the fact Cornes went down like he'd been struck by Tyson and then Ali made the MRP think "Nah not this time"
-
K Cornes should be done for faking if Trent wasn't done due to not enough force.
Whats the point in evening having the faking rule there if they don't start using it in cases like this.

Here's the official MRP report:
Contact between Richmond’s Trent Cotchin and Port Adelaide’s Kane Cornes from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. After a medical report from the Port Adelaide Football Club, it was determined that the level of force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Hmm, you can still pull the old 'medical report from the opposition' trick in the AFL.
The spirit of the VFL and Graeme Richmond lives on ;D
