Mortin's back :thumbsup
-
Goo vs Fev. We might see some fireworks ;D
That's a pretty weak Coburg side. It may not be pretty again this week as Casey are a decent side this year.
Hopefully Griffs gets through another game unscathed and gets some run into his legs and more of the ball this week as he was left to freeze up forward last week when the ball hardly got up forward.
-
I can see Coburg getting murdered, however, the only important thing"s" are these:
Ben Griffiths and Mitch Morton.
Griffiths needs to play a full match a kick a few and Morton back from leave could turn it on! A report on these two would be much appreciated. If Morton can get back into that form he was in late last season.
-
Good on ya Mitch, have a good one!
-
Very windy conditions. 3-5 goal advantage to the southern end of Casey Fields. Casey has the breeze in the first qtr.
Reserves to 3/4 time. They haven't posted a full-time score yet even though the game has finished for a while.
Coburg 3.8 3.11 5.19-49

Clifton had a grubber shot towards goal and there was a high tackle in the pocket to Murphy but it wasn't paid.
Morton then has a snap and it's a point.

Coburg gives away another 50m but Casey only gets a point.
Tucky then in defence kicks it out on the the full. Turnover costs us a goal.

Fev snaps a point.
Quarter time
Coburg 0.1-1
Casey 3.7-25

Coburg backline stood up. Kept numbers behind the ball against the breeze and clogged the game up so Casey couldn't get any spread. Only negative so far is undisciplined acts - 3 x 50m penalties and then giving away a couple of free off the ball when we had the ball. 2 of Casey's 3 goals came from dumb 50m penalties.
Hard to find bests as we went fully defensive and only went inside 50 about 3-4 times.
Carnell, Power and Clifton probably Coburg's best so far.
Tucky has been in and under and got a few possies. Typical Tucky game.
Gus has been Gus by the sound of it.
Helbig had his name mentioned about 3-4 times late in the quarter.
O'Reilly had two goals kicked on him when he was playing on Bate.
Most RFC guys had a couple of touches each. Morton 2-3 possies. All of them nothing to write home about given the conditions and kicking against a stiff breeze.
Not sure who is on Fev as Casey has loaded up their forward line with 4 talls.
Griffiths and Morton up forward this 2nd quarter with the breeze
-
Two times in a row Coburg players (Clifton and Graham) held without the ball but no frees ::). Are the umps from last night umpiring.
-
Seriously Richmond need to dump Coburg. Richmond players are doing nothing to help Coburg Football Club or themselves.
To become a strong AFL club we must go alone.

-
It could have been a lot worse but we kicked 3 goals in the last 5 minutes after being unable to kick straight to save ourselves. Those 3 goals in 5 mins early in the 2nd qtr Casey got against the breeze could be telling. Coburg dominated the last 15 mins but will rue kicking 10 behinds. No one soley to blame as the misses have been spread around. Carnell, Power, Tucky and especially Wheeler who added a badly needed spark out of the middle got Coburg going in the second half of that quarter. Murphy and Morton looking like Coburg's most likely options to kick goals. Coburg's tall defenders which includes Goo have played well apparently plonking themselves in the right spots so there's no space for Casey's forwards.

Bad loss for Casey. They had a chance to move into the top2 or at least cement top 4. Bendigo won today so I think they jump ahead of Casey - at least that's what the commentators were saying.
I agree with most of the bests listed above except I would've added Carnell in there too. Gus at times during the game seemed to give the ball back to the opposition with his disposal going by the commentary although both sides were playing numbers behind the ball.

BF and Y&B saying Whitey strained his knee late in the game and may be out for some time. Tuck had 30+ touches and Goo took 10 marks although his kicking sometimes needs work. Burger player Wheeler had 9 clearances.

White had an ice pack on the knee but was walking without to many problems. Tuck was good and very hard at the contest. Goo was fantastic and his kicking was fine, hit targets on a very windy day. Wheeler is a good player with loads of potential. I liked Helbigs game today has a great appetite for the contest. Great to see O'Reilly play, love his footy.

if tuck comes back in we are going backwards. But I rate him way way way way way ahead of hislop. If I had to choose who I'd rather in the team out of those 2 I'd say bring in Tuck send Hislop back to windy hill.

Lowly Coburg upsets Scorpions
Brent Diamond
June 20, 2011
RICHMOND defender David Gourdis's best-on-ground performance in shutting down Brendan Fevola helped the Coburg Tigers to an upset 10-point win over the Scorpions at Casey Fields yesterday.
Gourdis gave the Tigers hierarchy plenty of highlights with rampant spoils and rebounds from defence, restricting Fevola to just one goal as the Tigers fought back to win 9.18 (72) to 8.14 (62).
It was only Coburg's second win for the season and the shock result has given rookie coach Adam Potter hope that they can go on with it.
"Casey are a top-four side at the minute and to get them out here will hopefully give us some confidence heading into the second half of the season," he said.
Gourdis had 22 disposals and Potter said he was ''really pleased with his defensive game".
Coburg's Jamie O'Reilly shut down Melbourne's Matthew Bate, while Shane Tuck and Sam Power (both with 31 possessions) were brilliant in the clearances as the Tigers turned around a four-point deficit at the last change.
Potter also praised ruckman Angus Graham and onballer Willie Wheeler, who snared three goals from 25 disposals through the midfield. Wheeler was the most dangerous forward in the game.

Coburg stuns Casey
richmondfc.com.au
Mon 20 Jun, 2011
Full-back David Gourdis produced an excellent performance for Coburg, restricting the Scorpions’ star spearhead Brendan Fevola to just one goal with strong defensive play, and providing plenty of rebound out of the backline.
Shane Tuck was at his ‘ball-magnet’ best, gathering a stack of clearances in his 30-plus disposals, Angus Graham fought well in the ruck, while Matthew White also was prominent with his run and carry.
Mitch Morton, in his return after several weeks on the sidelines due to personal reasons, showed some good signs, and kicked a valuable goal in the low-scoring match.

The Coburg Report
By Tony Greenberg
Tue 21 Jun, 2011
Development coach, David Newett, provides a summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at AFL level with Coburg in last Sunday’s upset victory over the Casey Scorpions . . .
David Gourdis
Again was Coburg’s best player. Shut Brendan Fevola out of the game with an excellent defensive performance. Provided strong rebound and was composed with the ball in the offensive chains. Took some good intercept marks and finished with 20 possessions.
Ben Griffiths
In tough conditions for tall forwards, he provided a target for the team and competed well in the air, as well as at ground level.
Ben Nason
Produced a more consistent effort across the four quarters. Provided outside run on the wing and was involved in some scoring opportunities.
Angus Graham
Fought well in the ruck against quality opposition. Provided a contest throughout the game and finished with 26 possessions, nine marks and 24 hit-outs.
Shane Tuck
With numerous stoppages across the game, the conditions were ideal for the experienced, inside midfielder to accumulate a team-high 31 possessions. Worked consistently throughout with strong tackling and hard-ball gets.
Brad Helbig
His best performance for the season with Coburg. Displayed good ball-winning ability, clean disposal, and speed to break the lines.
Jamie O’Reilly
Looked more comfortable and contributed well in defence, curbing opponents’ influence. Had limited impact offensively, but did use his possessions to the team’s advantage.
Matthew White
Performed very well in his return to the VFL level, until copping an injury early in the final quarter. Was a catalyst in the team’s win with a top-quality, 10-possession third quarter against the strong wind. Won the ball at ground level, provided strong outside run, and used his possessions effectively.
Mitch Morton
Played his role extremely well in his return to VFL football. Was competitive at both ends of the ground and capped his game off with a good goal.
Ben Jakobi
Played wing and half-back in his first senior VFL game for the season. Provided good rebound from defence and kept opponents in check.
Robbie Hicks (Coburg reserves)
Had more involvement on a consistent basis in the reserves side. Worked harder both defensively and offensively. Was dangerous around goals early, but didn’t capitalise on his opportunities.
Dean MacDonald (Coburg reserves)
Struggled to get into the game at reserve-grade level, but did impact when in possession.

Round 12 Match Reports Vs. Casey
Coburg Tigers website
Tuesday, June 21
Seniors
We went out to a windy Casey Fields to face an experienced Casey team.
The conditions resulted in inaccurate kicking all day and once again we got off to a slow start and could have been in trouble had Casey kicked straight in the 1st quarter.
We however came out in the 2nd quarter and were ourselves wayward in shots at goal and scored 4.10 to 3.0 which made the game within our grasp at halftime.
The 3rd quarter was tight and we went into the 3rd quarter break 4 points down.
The final quarter was one of the best we have played in a long time and we finally hit the front for the first time at the 20 minute mark and held on to that lead for what seemed an eternity with a 35min quarter due to the many stoppages.
It was a great result for the club coming off a 104 points thrashing from Port Melbourne and to come out and beat a side in 3rd position at their home ground showed great character from the playing group.
David Gourdis did a fantastic job on Fevola keeping him to 1 goal .
Angus Graham gave us first use of the ball in the ruck and he also racked up over 20 possessions.
Sam Power was aggressive at the contests as was Shane Tuck.
Young Willie Wheeler was solid all day but his last quarter was unbelievable and he is only playing in his 7th senior game of VFL football.
Matt White gave us drive off the wing and Casey could not match his pace
Goals:Wheeler 3,Murphy 2,Morton,Jordon,White Lynch
Coburg: 0.1 4.11 6.14 9.18 72
Casey: 3.7 6.7 7.12 8.14 62
Development:
There is a saying...bad kicking is bad football.
Unfortunately our young side could not take advantage of having the ball inside our 50 regularly and we had 26 shots on goal to Casey 29,but went down by 11 goals.
The boys will learn from this and work on their composure when kicking at goal .
There were some solid contributions from Jamason Daniels who accepted his demotion on the chin and Dave Fahey gave us drive from the backline with his run and long kicking.
Luke Cartelli tried hard all day and Pat Ambrose was a focal target up forward but unfortunately was inaccurate with his kicking.
The boys face another tough opponent this week in Werribee but will be competitive as they have been all year.
Goals: Lirosi 2,Daniels 2,Barrack,Cartelli
Coburg: 3.8 3.11 5.19 6.20
Casey: 2.1 8.5 11.6 19.10
