I caught the end of Greg Miller on Sport927 this morning.
Greg suggested that there will be announcement today regarding the Family Day being moved from next Sunday (13/3/05) to the following Friday evening (18/3/05).
Poor Mitho was trying to plug the 13th when GM said it's probably going to be re-scheduled with a Probables -v- Possibles game where all the fans are invited Friday evening.
What the?????????????
Will not be happy if this happens >:( :banghead >:(

Well I didn't have to wait long and guess what I am not happy :banghead >:(

Come and see the Tigers at Twilight
1:18:36 PM Thu 3 March, 2005
A great Richmond tradition will be revived at Punt Road on Friday, March 18 with a Probables v Possibles practice match, as the final hit-out for the players before the opening bounce of the 2005 premiership season, against Geelong on Easter Sunday.
Richmond’s Family and Community Day will also now be held on that date (formerly March 13). All members of the Tiger faith can not only celebrate the traditional Family Day activities, but also watch a good, old-fashioned Tigerish contest between the Probables and the Possibles under lights at Punt Road.
There will be an exciting range of activities for all the family to enjoy from 3pm into the evening, including the presentation of the 2005 playing list (with their new, fully-sashed guernseys), an address by coach Terry Wallace, fun rides for the kids, face painting, junior football activities, player autographs and photo opportunities, performances by multi-cultural groups, and an appearance by Club mascot, ‘Tiger Stripes Dyer’. Plenty of food and beverages will be available as well.
Then, the focus will turn to the hallowed Punt Road turf . . .With competition for places in the Round 1 Richmond team really hotting up, there will be enormous interest in the Probables-Possibles clash, reviving memories of the days when the likes of Billy Barrot and Kevin Sheedy would go ‘hammer and tongs’ at each other in super-competitive, intra-club practice matches at Punt Road.
The Club believes the opportunity to celebrate Family Day, and also at the same time watch the new-look Tigers pressing their claims for opening round selection, is irresistible . . .
So, make sure you’re at Punt Road on Friday, March 18 to enjoy all the action, both on and off the field.
Gates open at 3pm, entry is by a gold coin donation, and parking will be available in Yarra Park at normal rates.

So why am I not happy?
How do I explain to the my very young Tiger Cubs who live over 300kms from Melbourne - they cannot go to this now :banghead
-
Does seem odd WP that we'd have a family day on a weekday. Given the game against the Cats isn't on until the following Sunday the Club could have held it on the weekend and still given the players a whole week to prepare.
Is there a timetable for when the guernsey presentation and practice game is on?

Only what's in the story above MT - it just seems odd and extremely disappointing. The timing of it is tough on school kids, parents and those of us that work for a living (or pretend to work ;)) etc
-
or pretend to work ;)
Isn't this why internet access at work was invented ;D

Suits me Couldn't make it Sunday - Nothing like a tigers match at Punt Road - Great idea IMO :thumbsup
I reckon you're one of the lucky ones CUB
I have no problems with them playing a practice match on the Friday arvo or evening - if people can make it great. What about those who cannot?
What I am not happy about is the Family Day being moved - especially one week out from the orginal date that they have been promoting for at least 6 weeks :-\ :-[
As I've said Friday afternoon at 3.00pm - kids are still at school, people are still at work. Then if you want to go Friday after school and work you'll have to face peak hour traffic in Punt Road no less - great. :banghead
Less people will attend IMHO and doesn't that defeat the purpose of it being a "FAMILY DAY" ??? You know kids getting up close with their heroes?
What about country supporters who would have come down on the weekend but cannot get there on a weekday?
Sorry but I don't think its great - I reckon it's STUPID
(PS: CUB - I merged your thread into the titled "Family Day" because they are about the same topic :thumbsup -WP)
-
It is very disappointing and annoying.
Would have gone on the Sunday after the Saturday being our clash against Brissy at "No" oval.
stupid stupid stupid move (IMO) :banghead
-
Excuse my ignorance but what is the "great Richmond tradition" that is being revived by making this change? ???

I think PS they are referring to having the intra-club game in front of supporters a week before the start of the season. It's not something I remember ???.

Tigers at Twilight Timetable
Stripes and fans Richmond fans will have more opportunity than ever before to enjoy all the 'fun of the fair'
at the Club's new-look Family and Community Day, to be held at Punt Road, on Friday, March 18.
Gates open at 3pm, and for the next 6-7 hours, Punt Road will be buzzing, with a range of activities for the
Yellow and Black faithful to experience.
The kids will have heaps of fun from 3pm-8.30pm, in an area adjacent to the ground, with a jumping castle,
bungee run, inflatable slide, face painting and roving entertainers to keep them amused. There also will be a
junior footy clinic conducted on the field, with the help of the Tiger players.
From 4pm, a player autograph and photograph booth will be operating, enabling fans to have special access to
their Yellow and Black heroes. The player-related activities will run until just before 6pm, when the boys move
to the change-rooms to prepare for the big Probables v Possibles practice match.
At 6.30pm, following the on-field, pre-game entertainment, the presentation of the new, fully-sashed Richmond
guernseys, to the 2005 playing list, will take place. Some famous Tigers of Old will hand out the famous Yellow
and Black jumper to the current Tiger crop.
Then, at 7pm, the Probables v Possibles clash gets underway, with the full Richmond playing list going 'hammer
and tongs' over two 30-minute halves for the prize of a place in the team for the opening round match against
Geelong on Easter Sunday.
At the end of the intra-club hit-out, Tiger coach, Terry Wallace, will address the crowd, and players again
will be available for more autographs.
The function will finish with 'Plough' and players being interviewed in the Social Club.
All in all, this shapes as a great way for Richmond supporters to celebrate the launch of a new season - and a
new era for the mighty Tigers...
RFC 2005 Family Day FAQ’s
richmondfc.com.au
3:56:48 PM Fri 4 March, 2005
Q: Why did the date change?
A: There were a range of reasons . . . Firstly, the ground only became available late in the piece, through the Richmond Cricket Club, for a practice match on the Friday night. Coach Terry Wallace and the football department then felt it would great to attract as many Tiger fans as possible to a Probables v Possibles practice match at Punt Road, to enhance the atmosphere of the occasion. The Club had also received complaints from supporters because the Family Day had originally been scheduled over the Labour Day long weekend and they were going to be away.
Q: Will it still be a family-focused event?
A: Most definitely. There will be all the activities normally associated with the Club’s Family Day, plus some exciting new ones, and the intra-club practice match.
Q: Won’t there be issues with the traffic at that time on a Friday?
A: Yes, but that applies to Friday night games in Melbourne throughout the home-and-away season as well. There will be plenty of parking available (at normal rates) in Yarra Park. And, because the activities are spread over several hours, there’s no need to rush.
Q: Will we get the same access to the players given that they’ll be playing in a practice match in the evening?
A: The players will be heavily involved before their match, helping out with junior footy clinics on the ground, signing autographs and having their photos taken with fans in special booths that will be set up. After the practice match, they will sign more autographs, and then be interviewed up in the Social Club.
Q: What if we live in country regions or have work/other commitments until later that evening?
A: That’s why this Family Day will run longer than normal. The gates open at 3pm, but activities run until after 9pm. The presentation of guernseys to the 2005 playing list, for example, won’t take place until 6.30pm.

Still no good for my Cubs who are more than 3 hours away.
What are they supposed to do finish school and then hitchhike to Melbourne? Or just start walking :-\
the only way they can get here is if I go and pick them up - If I finish work early at say 3.30pm, I'd have to drive for 3 hours pick them up then drive back I should be there by 9.30pm. When it's finished! Works beautifully thanks very much :banghead
-
The club really have poo for brains - they have no idea.
-
The club could have held it on the Sunday or even Saturday and still had a practise match which would have attracted even more supporters. No need for it to be on a Friday night, totally agree with WP
The tiger cubs are the future of our supporter base and they need to be encouraged to be part of the club and with this time slot many will be unable to attend, i may still attend but my kids wont be going. >:(

Tigers ready: Wallace

Richmond has celebrated the conclusion of the pre-season with its annual Family Day, held at Punt Road on Friday afternoon.
The highlight of the afternoon was no doubt the intra-club match, where senior coach Terry Wallace opted to mix up opposing teams, to ensure an even contest.
The result was irrelevant, and Wallace was aiming to have his players retain the impetus which they gained throughout the Wizard Home Loans Cup series.
"We had most of our guys up and going, and most of them have had momentum right through the Wizard Cup series, so my thoughts were to keep that momentum up on the weekend off," Wallace said.
"It was probably the best way to go."
Richmond escaped the hit out with only minor injuries to young gun Richard Tambling and Ray Hall, but both are expected to be available for Round One selection.
"The most important thing was not getting any injuries, and we reckon we've got out of the game alright," Wallace said.
"Richard Tambling has a sore big toe, which he had from last week."
"We thought he would be ok, he got out there and he was just still a bit sore on it, we just have to monitor him during the week, it's just bruising so we expect it to be ok."
"Ray Hall got a bit of a knock at the end of the game, but was fine, no problems at all.
The most notable absentee from the Tiger lineups was former skipper Wayne Campbell, and Wallace was quick to reassure the midfielder's fitness for the season proper.
"He was just a little bit tight in the hammy, we haven't risked him," Wallace said.
"He's a player who comes to hand quickly, so we thought we were better off leaving him out. He'll train all week, there won't be any doubt for next weekend's game."
Wallace was pleased with the match, played in front of an abundance of yellow-and-black supporters who flocked to Punt Road to see their club in their last major public appearance before meeting the Cats on March 27.
"It was just pleasing to get a reasonably solid hit out, it was a reasonably even sort of match," Wallace said.

from all reprts the friday evening family day was a huge success with a massive turnout! maybe it was a bad idea after all
-
It was great, X - best one i've been to. To have a game and still have all the merchandise and things was good thinking.
I'd still try and make it a Saturday or Sunday in the future if they really want to cash in. Lots of people didn't come because of the timing, and they really don't want to alienate supporters.
-
What gives with tambling.?
Every frikken week the little Cidiot gets some kind of injury.
I hope he's not a hypochondriac Nancy boy.
-
Spoke to Tambo after the game - he said that it was just a bit sore from the bad bruising. He hurt it last week, had it taped for the Praccy match but the tape didn't help - they just thought it was better if he came off.
Nothing to worry about long term. :thumbsup

Yeah there was a resonable crowd to watch the game but there didn't seem to be as many kids as you would normally find at a Family day IMO.
I reckon they could have sold more merchandise though, while I was standing in the queue for nearly 35 minutes waiting to be served a number of people gave up and walked out.
Still believe it should be on a Saturday or Sunday. Believe me when I was stuck in traffic on Swan St - I did think about going home >:(
-
Heading home on the train after work there looked like there was a good crowd watching the intra-club match.
-
WTF - was the story with the saigon six and thier mates - that was diseased should of let the kids stay on the oval for a kick. :banghead :banghead :banghead
Luckily I was in the drinking area out of sounds reach - that was fcuked :lol
