We're including a book in the trade. It's called "How to stay out of legal trouble". The author is well known to us ;D

Pretty close WP, and in reality, you would be swapping for 11 & 12 as Daniher is a given at 10?

They would if they didnt want the extra pick due to list numbers & they thought they might get their "man" @ 9

I know. seems pretty ridiculous. Has been bandied around though. This is from the other thread:

'From the Herald-Sun's Live Chat today:

Comment From Macca
Question is this. Will Richmond trade pick 9 to GWS for 12 & 13?

Gilbert Gardiner:
nice work Macca... finger on the pulse!! whispers floating about that Tigers warming to that idea... in reality, not much diff between 9 and 12-13 so to have two top-liners for the price of one...

Comment From rombosghost
Is Macca on the money? I like the look of that deal. Was it GWS' idea?

GIlbert Gardiner:
originally floated as part of a proposed Dom Tyson trade but word is Tigers warming to the idea.'
Title: Re: Would you swap pick 9 for picks 12 & 13?

Would do. GWS would only do if they only have 4 list spots. Thus upgrading their 4th and 5th pick for a better 4th one.
Title: Re: Would you swap pick 9 for picks 12 & 13?
Post by: dwaino on October 18, 2012, 11:38:06 PM
On more thinking:

If we were hoping someone like Stringer to slip to 9, it would be wishful for them to slip more to 12. But on the other hand we could take a genuine soldier as well as a high risk/high reward like Garlett.

Taking out O'Meara, Crouch, Daniher and Viney turns to top ~10 into a pretty shallow dish. Maybe 9 vs 12 isn't really a big deal after all. This being probably our most important draft going forward as these players should be in our flag tilting squad in the future, a well picked 12, 13, 29, and 31 would set us right up and provide considerable depth going forward.

Wouldn't mind trying to package 29/31 for a slightly higher pick around 20ish. Then take an x-factor type at pick 50 (or 40 if we can trade 50 & Graham for it)

I recall hearing we were going to use only 4 picks in the ND and we were hoping these were inside the top 40.

If we get 40 for Graham, that gives us 9, 29, 31 and 40 inside the top 40.

If we get 12 and 13 for 9, we have 5 picks inside 40.

40 would be too valuable to waste, maybe we would trade one of 29, 31 or 40 if this did happen.

Pick 9 for 12 and 13.

Pick 12 for Collingwoods 17 and 18.

We then have 13, 17, 18, 29, 31 and 40  ;D

With St Kilda get pick 13 as compensation for losing Goddard, if this trade were to go through it would be pick 9 for picks 12 & 14.

Does that make a difference to your thoughts?

Any pick inside the top 40 can be a good player and ought to be AFL standard at the least.  Paul Chapman went at 31 but McGuane went at 36. I'd take the trade in a heartbeat and hope we don't stuff it up.  This could be the making of Hardwicks time at Richmond.

I've got a feeling we're done. Hartley said we'll only be using 4 picks so if there was a real chance of this happening then why would we have bothered upgrading pick 50 to pick 40. Likewise GWS would only agree to such a trade if they planned to use just four picks themselves. They seem more interested in willing to trade out picks for senior AFL experienced players to play alongside their kids rather than just swapping picks.

The quality is even and with Daniher it's only a 2 place drop. Depends who we like at pick 9 and if we think they'd last past GWS and Carlton. My fear is that I think Carlton would take Vlastuin who we are rumoured to want.

Been floating around on another forum that Saints want one of our whipping boys IF other trades fall through. The joy on my face at every failed attempt they have had.  ;D

Anyone seen Pies want to package their 3 picks together. (18, 19, 21)

If we got 12 & 14 could we put 14 up for 19 & 21?

Suns want 13 off Saints maybe 13 for Hickey & 25. Steal 25 off Saints for Jacko. Then package up all the late picks to get in front of Port as a big stuff u to the AFL for putting their picks first.   ;D

Someone asked about this swap in the Herald-Sun live chat today:

Herald-Sun's reply:
keeps bobbing up...how it will be used and who for remains a mystery.

GWS hording all the top picks now because next year, like Gold Coast now, they will need to trim the list back... they'll want to get plenty of talent through the gates, develop them and use them to their advantage down the track.

still no for me. im hoping one of  three  will still be there at 9 but i would love a pick around 25. shaw kpf,  mcbean ruck,  smith kpd  all meet tall needs and one should be there at this pick. that would leave 32 and 34 to target more mids and fix the mid depth once and for all.
i would also like a pick at 50 if we dont get a pick around 25. we should get a decent crack around  50 at a ruckman, kpd,  or kpf.

This swap of picks was never going to happen as Brisbane tried the same thing with their pick 8 but GWS didn't want to give up picks 12 & 14.

The only other options that we considered at different times were a swap of picks with GWS who were interested in our Pick 8. Had we been able to get an agreement on a deal that involved the GWS' Picks 12 and 14 coming to us for Pick 8 and 24, we would have seriously considered it but GWS didn't want to give up those positions. Similarly, the options put to us by GWS were not attractive enough for us to forfeit Pick 8.
