I am flying over Monday morning, red-eye home Tuesday morning

Don't think I am brave, think I am bloody stupid to be honest

It's one of the disadvantages of booking footy trips when the draw comes out, no turning back  :'( :'(

Think of it this way WP, If by some miracle we get up for an upset win, you will be there to take it all in. Now come Monday, West Coast wouldn't have played for two weeks not taking into account the training drill against GWS, so they might be a little softer for the experience. I went to the game and GWS were just deplorable and West Coast were ordinary and should have won by 200 points.
We could surprise is all I'm saying. I hope that Plane ticket of yours turns into Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket! ;D

Surely someone from West Coast is having a milestone game, always seems to happen in a game we really need to win.

I've got to give you credit here WP. Willing to go all the way there with a big chance it'll be a fizzer by half time.
One thing I don't understand is why you wouldn't go on Friday and make a weekend out of it. If I was going that's what I would do. Very nice city is Perth.

Can't go over Friday have work commitments, have family commitment on Saturday.

Actually prefer flying in and flying out the same day. Do that for all interstate trips where possible. Only game it's not possible to fly in/out this year is Cairns

I was extremely peeed off after the bombers game, but now that ive had a few days to think about it I realise it wasn't the end of the world.
We didn't bring our A game, we lacked defensive pressure, we lacked the ability to overcome our opponent, we chipped the ball around in order to maintain possesion but lacked the dare to go forward and take risks etc etc it goes on..
But so did Sydney when they got absolutely pants'd by the Hawks a few weeks ago, fast fwd a couple of weeks and they come back to the G and do to Collingwood what happened to them, much to the surprise of the media etc.
I still believe our best football is yet to come this year as most games bar the Port one we were avg, I also still think we are yet to find our best 22 for the season which is concerning but is also exciting as our draws opens up a lil after ther bye.
Lets worry about a 10 goal defeat if it happens, if not we may go shake em up and take 4 pts home  :gotigers

Preview: Eagles v Tigers

SUMMARY
Monday night football heads west and it looms as a critical match for two teams with heavy expectations on them. West Coast has not beaten a team inside the top eight, and Richmond has only beaten Carlton among those in the eight after round nine. The Tigers were bitterly disappointing against Essendon last weekend but will take some confidence from their last trip to Patersons Stadium, when they nearly beat Fremantle in round five. West Coast boasts the fourth best attack in the competition compared to the Tigers, who are ranked 10th. Yet Richmond has two players, Jack Riewoldt and Shane Edwards, ranked in top 20 forwards in the Official AFL Player Ratings, whilst West Coast have none.

WHERE AND WHEN: Patersons Stadium, Monday June 3, 5.40pm

LAST FIVE TIMES
R5, 2012: West Coast 16.11 (107) d Richmond 14.13 (97) at Etihad Stadium
R20, 2011: West Coast 22.15 (147) d Richmond 14.6 (90) at Patersons Stadium
R12, 2010: Richmond 19.12 (126) d West Coast 11.11 (77) at the MCG
R22, 2009: West Coast 17.23 (125) d Richmond 6.9 (45) at Patersons Stadium
R12, 2009: Richmond 13.14 (92) d West Coast 11.11 (77) at Etihad Stadium

THE SIX POINTS
1. The sides have met at Patersons Stadium 15 times, with West Coast winning 13 times.

2. Riewoldt enjoys a good record against the Eagles, kicking 23 goals in seven games, including a career-high 10 in round 12 2010 at the MCG.

3. West Coast and Richmond have met once before on a Monday night, in round eight, 2007, at the MCG, with the Tigers winning by 52 points.

4. Tackling could be the difference. West Coast is ranked second in 2013 for tackles laid; Richmond is ranked last.

5. West Coast is ranked second for total hit-outs this season; the Tigers are equal 13th.

6. Jack Riewoldt is the fifth-ranked forward in AFL player ratings, West Coast's highest-ranked forward is Josh Hill (22nd).

Tigers have point to prove on big stage
Craig O'Donoghue Melbourne,
The West Australian
May 30, 2013

Richmond defender Troy Chaplin says the Tigers are embracing the challenge of playing on Monday night in Perth and promises they will attack West Coast after playing conservatively against Essendon last Saturday night.

The 10th-placed Tigers were expected to be one of the big improvers this season, but have been unable to win against quality teams.

Their four losses have been against Geelong, Collingwood, Essendon and Fremantle, raising questions about how they handle big occasions.

Chaplin said the players addressed their lacklustre effort against the Bombers and were focused on playing with more confidence.

"If we're going to lose a game, you need to lose a game having a crack and trying to kick goals. We went into our shell a little bit," he said.

"It's Monday night football, the whole nation is going to be watching, so we're on the big stage again.

"What better opportunity than this week?"

Chaplin said Richmond were likely to consider adding taller players to the back line because of West Coast's goal-scoring power.

Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling kicked five goals each last week, Josh Hill and Mark LeCras contributed three each and Nic Naitanui booted two.

The Eagles took 25 marks inside 50m last week, moving them into top spot for that statistic this season.

They are also ranked second for contested marks.

Richmond are in the bottom six for marks conceded in their defensive 50m.

Chaplin said West Coast's forwards posed a big challenge.

"They'll just swing in and out of there all day," he said.

"Looking at them, if they can get a match-up, they'll try and clear out the forward 50.

"Looking at LeCras a couple of weeks ago, he got a match-up and pushed everyone up.

"If Kennedy got a match-up, he played deep. They're just so fit that they can rotate. They can play high for a period of time and then play deep. It depends on who they get."

Richmond have their bye after Monday's game but Chaplin said they would be in a strong position regardless of the result.

"Our mindset is in a really good place at the moment. We're still ahead of the ledger (at) 5-4," he said.

I was there. It was 1997. Bower did a great job curbing Matera's influence on the game, campbell & broderick were excellent, Bowden & Daffy had a night to remember.
It was a memorable win.

You're going overboard with the recycling thing mate, like many others on here. Still plenty of kids on the list and a few are developing nicely. Ellis Vlastuin to name a few. Injuries and kids who aren't ready ate the reasons we seeing Lonners etc. he is taking up a rookie spot. Big whoop. We'l start getting players back and he'l be gone.

Strike a raw nerve when we talk about some selection howlers where a recycled bloke is getting selected ahead of a kid who is busting his nut at Coburg.

Nice thumbs up after stating that we'l get flogged too. Love a good loss u lot dont u? Gives you an excuse to come and fire all over your keyboard.

First of all, the "is that what u think comment" was directed at you insinuating people are having a whinge bc of wins/losses not whether you think we'll win or lose, why would I gaf about something as trivial as that? I wont bite back at your personal abuse towards me this time bc I respect you as a poster and enjoy reading your views, but that was pretty pee poor.  - and I stuffing hurt after losses FTR

Now I'll explain my thoughts which I have done plenty of times btw - Beginning of the season Pettard is ahead of batchelor, Ellis and Vlas in the pecking order - why? Petts was injured and was on a modified program until late January, what exactly has he done to be a walkup start? Meanwhile batch got dropped after failing at playing as a KPD against the saints, while we watched Pettard playing 3rd man up dropping sitters and hitting 9 irons out of the backline.
Ellis was nigh on our best player during the preseason, had a shocker in rnd 1 dropped to sub duties for the next 3 weeks! That's extreme and in hindsight wrong but even without hindsight nearly everyone on here was in agreeance that it was an error.
Vlas wasn't getting a game early bc "he had to earn it" how exactly did Pettard "earn" his automatic inclusion week in week out with subpar performances? How did Lonergan "earn" his spot with 2 average performances in the VFL and an interrupted preseason? Its not as if these guys were tearing it up on the training track. If they were and earnt it legitimately I wouldn't have a gripe.
It just doesn't sit right that they are being rushed into the lineup ahead of the likes of Arnott who has been playing well most weeks in the VFL. Dea in for one game and dropped after a poor performance(has been very good in the vfl most weeks. Griff dropped after one poor performance. Whereas Loners & Petts have been given chasnces, why?! Just doesn't make any sense. Hence the frustration

We're gonna win and all you depressing loonies will be back on board.  :-*

Is that what u really think?  Its gone beyond results,  its about the process and decisions being made now.  Why play white,  lonergan and letters ahead of arnott,  batchelor and Ellis/Vlas.

Btw we will get flogged  :thumbsup

Hahahahaha some people still bringing up those old chestnuts TM.
These are the type of people that clap them off when they are 10 goals down while we blame our mums and Godmothers for getting us Richmond jumpers when we were 5 years old and watching every other club have some degree of success.
In so many words. Malakies, malakies, malakies.
What chestnut did I bring up exactly?
Rather clap them off than jump online and bitch every chance I get.
Yep, I do go to all games in Melb and I do lean on side of positivity. Reckon it will be all the sweeter when we're a powerhouse again. Half the drips on here don't even watch the tiges live.

What makes you think I don't go to all Melbourne games also pal. Maybe you sit near me in the members. :thumbsup
Strike a raw nerve when we talk about some selection howlers where a recycled bloke is getting selected ahead of a kid who is busting his nut at Coburg.
Your assessment of me is misplaced but good luck to you. Like me going to the games or others not going makes anyone's comments more or less valid in your eyes. Malakies. :thumbsup

When did I mention you in my last comment? Pretty clear that you were playing the man when you chimed in on my dialogue with TM though.
And you may disagree but to me going to the games and feeling the wins and losses does give you more credibility as a fan. Watching the team live is what footy is all about, in my eyes.
And it's not discussion of Lonergan selection that hit a raw nerve. It's the incessant negativity and  scapegoating of recycled payers.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken but was it you who was saying that you are overweight and overworked in another thread? If so, I think it's begginig to show though in your posts.

And this 'malakies' gag gets more and more hilarious every time you use it. Keep it coming.

Who cares what i think mate. Seasons stuffed anyway. Sack Dimma. We have no young talent. wahhhhhh!
No I don't think we'l win but we're a chance and I've had a gutfull of the sensationalist negativity that is stinking up this site of late.
Wtf is your last comment? Please explain to me how Lonners is playing ahead of Bach Ellis/Vlas when Vlas/batch are playing and Ellis played every game until Injured. Lonners has played one game. Go on...?

Fair points but your innitial comment implied that Lonners was selected over Vlas/Ellis which is horse poo, and, in my view, typical of the over-reaction against our recycled players.

As I mentioned on the site earlier which you would have read Willy as you mentioned another one of my posts. I did say I am not blaming or scapegoating Lonergan as I don't care what the names of the next 22 RFC Premiership players are it is those that are making the final call on these guys namely Dimma and the Match Committee who I am having a go at.
That's as far as I'll go with recycled players.
As for the personal jibe you are mistaken I wasn't at work today so I am not overworked and am pleased to announce that I am at my scientifically determined weight but thanks for asking. :thumbsup

Yep, I was on the S4 and lumped it all in the one brief - cbf expanding my thoughts when on it, too much work and effort with the small keyboard  ;D. Hope that cleared it up.

For the reasons I mentioned above I don't think its been an over reaction at all towards the recycled guys. If they were flying and showing it at Coburg then Im sure most supporters would accept their elevation happily and be happy to see them rewarded. Every mug deserves an even break. Im not cursing at A.Edwards getting a gig this week. The bloke has earned it with solid consistent performances. Thats the difference

A win tomorrow night will have us jumping up to 7th and sitting a game ahead of those outside the Eight; a loss and we'll be 11th and a game behind those just in the Eight. So a real 8-point match.

Tigers set to tackle Eagle test
By richmondfc.com.au
3:40pm AEST Monday, June 3, 2013

Richmond will relish the big challenge confronting it at Patersons Stadium tonight, against a strong West Coast outfit, according to Tiger assistant coach Danny Daly.

The Tigers go into the match as clear outsiders, but Daly believes the experience gained from getting within one point of current fourth-placed Fremantle, at the same venue in Round 5, will hold them in good stead.

Richmond coaches put heat on midfielders ahead of crucial match against West Coast

    Al Paton
    From: Herald Sun
    June 03, 2013

The Tigers have five wins and four losses heading into tonight's season-defining clash against West Coast in Perth.

Richmond was smashed in the middle by Essendon last weekend, with stars Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio and Dustin Martin all down.

"We were pretty disappointed last week with our midfield ... I've been into the mid this week about the need to come back and bounce back from a performance like that," assistant coach Danny Daly said in Perth.

"That will be where the game is won and lost."

But he said playing in the large expanses of Patersons Stadium would help the Tigers, who were a last-gasp Hayden Ballantyne goal away from pinching a win against Fremantle at the same venue a month ago.

"I think the ground being so long helps our runners in the midfield and our half-back flankers being able to spread hard and work hard forward," Daly said.

"Even though we didn't win to come away and play at Subiaco and match it with Fremantle, who have shown some terrific form since that game, gives the boys some confidence coming over here.

"We trained well during the week and we spoke about that game so hopefully the boys can bring that again this week."

The Tigers received support from an unlikely source, with Eagles coach John Worsfold saying Richmond is on track for success.

"I think Richmond are on a pretty good pathway to becoming a really top side," Worsfold told the Eagles website today.

"Adding (Troy) Chaplin in their back half has given them a good mix down there.

"Their forward line has got good talls as well as good pace, and they are a very good midfield.

"I still see a lot of upside.

"I don't think they're going to have too many players retire over the next two or three years, so I think they have a squad that will be together for another three or four years, which opens up a big window for them."

Former Kangaroo Aaron Edwards will make his Tigers debut tonight while the Eagles - also sitting 5-4 - welcome back veterans Andrew Embley and Adam Selwood.

How the Tigers can beat the Eagles
Luke Sheehan
Sportal
Last Updated 03/06/2013 4:29 PM

ANALYSIS: Can Richmond beat West Coast tonight? Luke Sheehan runs through the five things they have to do if they are to achieve the upset victory.

1. Be brave. Pussy footing around cost them against Essendon. They have to back their run from defence and give it to the Bachar Houlis, the Steven Morris' and the Nick Vlaustins. Patersons Stadium is a paddock, and will give them plenty of room to roam. They cannot fear turning it over, though, because the Eagles are going to score at some point anyway - so don't bother chipping it sideways and running yourselves into the ground. It would be better off trying to get it inside 50 quicker, to give Jack Riewoldt and Ty Vickery every chance of getting a step on their opponents.

2. Get down low, and go, go, go. Every man and his dog is aware that the Eagles are trained at drawing high free kicks. It's scientific. They get a lot of them. So, Tiges, before you go charging in trying to prove a point that you're hard as nails, be smart. Get really, really low, bend your knees and try to avoid giving the Eagles a cheap free kick around the stoppages. It might just be the difference.

3. Back your ability. While it certainly was not on show last weekend, the Tigers are actually ranked third for overall disposal efficiency. Equal last in that category are the Eagles. So they should have no fear they are going to be outplayed by a more efficient side, although they also can't rely on the Eagles making blunders without pressure. Regardless, Damien Hardwick's youngsters should back themselves to the hilt that they can blitz their opponents with effective use.

4. Concede a few ruck taps. West Coast have accrued 114 more hitouts than the Tigers this season, a stat Monday night's visitors rank last in by some margin. So, with the dual threat of Nic Naitanui and Dean Cox staring them in the face, it might be worth conceding the tap and doing their utmost to read it.

5. Lift the tackle pressure. It has been barely there for nine rounds, and if it remains so, they can't win. They need to apply hard tackles, and let the West Coast engine room they have a genuine opponent. The Tiges, just like in the hit-outs, rank last in tackles laid in 2013. They have laid just 460 compared to the Eagles' 640. The second worst team, GWS, have 541 to their name. That is a horrible anomaly for a team trying to play finals. They must turn that around immediately, or face dropping out of the final-eight race.

Not sure why we would have Lonergan as the sub. The subs are usually meant to have pace and use it in the second half of games when everyone else is tired.

Whitey, Floss, Foley, Dusty, Cotch in our bests. Houli had 8 possies but undid his work with that schoolboy error which gifted the Eagles that last goal.

Floss had 6 tackles in that quarter. A first year kid showing his older teammates how it's done.

If only we didn't have a dysfunctional forward line and entries inside 50 we wouldn't have to take running pings from 50m out.

Great quarter of footy, wish we could do it all the time. However I think we all know the familiar script from here. The opposition get a spray at HT come out breathing fire and we stop doing the hard things and in a blink of an eye the lead is lost. We have to match their intensity at the start of the third otherwise its Freo revisited

Our best quarter in terms of standard, intensity, run and pressure since the 2nd qtr against Carlton in round 1.

Now unlike that game and a number this year, we've got to back it up in the 3rd qtr and 2nd half. Come out in the first 10 mins and go for the kill rather than sit back, come out half asleep and stupidly try to just hang on.

Was Newy's second on the wing when he marked or in the center from a handball from King? Cause I didn't see Edwards do anything in either of them unless Edwards made a block for Newy to get clear and I missed it.

Great win tonight I'm absolutely shocked after last week I was expecting a 10 goal loss. One thing that is still a worry is the Ruck.
Maric was murdered by Cox and Nic Nat. He is playing injured so I feel for him, but it's still a concern. Last week against a better midfield it was telling!

Do you really think the style of footy tonight mirrored the Essendon/Geelong/Collingwood games? Dimma coached those losses as well. The Weagles gave us so much latitude they forced us to play attacking footy, good sides dont. When they do we go into our shell.....and so does Dimma! I dunno if he's a tinnies guy.
Maybe a few reds or a cognac whilst puffing on his Calabash pipe
inhaling some borkum riff medium blend.  :lol

A good win by a side that hasn't beaten anyone above them against a side with the same recent history. Too many false dawns for me to be fooled again.....but.....credit to the backline which has been playing well in defeat and victory. :thumbsup

If we have the same recent history why'd you tip them to win by so much? Wheres Dimma's credit?
"One swallow doesn't make a summer"....and when 2 'middle of the road sides' meet blow-outs are not uncommon, either way. As for Dimma...Choco was coaching them from the sidelines.

He's being doing that since Round 1. Change the title of sack hardwick to sack choco
Do you really think the style of footy tonight mirrored the Essendon/Geelong/Collingwood games? Dimma coached those losses as well. The Weagles gave us so much latitude they forced us to play attacking footy, good sides dont. When they do we go into our shell.....and so does Dimma! Look, I'll give him credit when he wins a game against a top four side on his wits alone.

Not Essendon but the others? Yes. You're proving to be a Richmond hater when you can't give Hardwick credit for the same things you so easily bad mouth him for.
Ok...I've put forward my case politely but you have devolved to 'ad hominem' and name calling.... So the gloves are off. Listen......success in this competition requires a so-called contender to defeat fellow contenders in order to reach the ultimate goal (GF)....understand. This is self-evident to anyone with 1 firing neuron. Also, until the first developmental benchmark is reached (make the finals) we are just 'also- rans' in the ilk of the sides we have beaten. Nb. The Weagles were deplorable last night.

On Dimma, .....have you been to a game and seen his coaching first hand?.....if so, are your eyes painted on?.......or is your neo cortex disengaged. He freezes in clutch situations. You have 'cherry-picked' my posts regarding Dimma. When he was hired I was rapt and supported him for the first 2 years.....but....from the Melbourne game last year I noticed a shift to an overly defensive 'possession' game style that doesn't suit our personnel.  Going in to the Essendon game with a loosey down back and an over-possessing game-plan was 'suicide'. He needs to evolve quickly....like you, I doubt he can.

BTW the only thing I "hate" about this club is it's 'sophistry', acceptance of individual over team and 30 years of mediocrity (not coincidental)......as a past Manager of several successful projects it is anathema to me. You must be a lot younger than I am and consequently more naive.

And.... educate yourself in 'Graham's Heirachy'....FFS. You can view It in diagram form if it makes it more comprehensible ::)

Where is ramper?

Im here! Been a bit busy the last day anyway I believe we won but I didnt see the game on TV nor did I get to hear it on radio. Found out we won at about 1.30am when I got home. Today called a mate of mine also a Richmond supporter and he said we were outstanding. "Best Richmond Performance In Years" was the exact quote. As I said I havent seen it but I will during the week when I find out what times Fox Footy will play the replay. Did all our rejects from other clubs play well?

Did all our rejects from other clubs play well?

Houli and Chaplin played very well.
Maric provided a contest and even though he lost the hitouts he was a part of the reason our mids dominated (provided a lot of physical support).  He looked a lot more mobile than in previous weeks.
Lonergan was the sub but went ok when he came on in the mid 3rd quarter.
Edwards presented well, kept up good defensive pressure and worked well with Jack and Vickery.
Grigg got a bit of it but was probably one of our few beaten on the night.  He really does look to have been given a different role this year, more inside and accountable than when he was tearing it up on the outside last season.

Overall it was a pass mark for that clique but then again, we hardly had a passenger all over the ground.

Houli was average. His drop of the handball was criminal. He did some good things but he squibbed alot too. Will let us down if we play finals.

Lonergan is crap. Kicks out of bounce or to the other team.

Grigg does not go hard enough IMO.

I thought Houli was very good last night, sitting high in the stands at Subi, really enjoyed his run and carry but more than that his 1%ers, attack on the footy were the highlights for mine. had him in my top 3

I'm looking forward to watching the replay to see if these things showed up on the TV  ;D

"Congratulations to Richmond though - they hammered us all over the ground, well played by them.

Reminds me of us in 2003 over Brisbane at the Gabba, when Judd kicked 5.

They are building very nicely for a premiership tilt in the next few years. "

i pretty much criticise em most of the time.  i even thought we would get smashed.
for me sitting in amongst my fellow supporters and going feral makes for a pleasant change ;D.
im not going to criticise em as it would seem churlish. and it was a good win.

all i will say is i dont believe a win papers over the weaknesses. they just didnt appers so much this week. to be honest wc didnt offer a yelp.

what was pleasing was the all round pressure we applied and the marked improvement in ball use first quarter aside. from whwere i sat wce played like millionaires and their skills which i have always thought to be overall poor were terrible.

this yr ive been blessed we were very competetive against freo and in the end could have pinched it. and  last night  we had an emphatic win. just how good that win is im not sure but our players worked well as a team and most performed well. so kudos to all.

During the game my misses said she had trouble at times distinguishing between the two.
I told her to look at their shorts, Richmond are in white, and she had no real problems after that.

yep, word around Subi on Monday night was that the Eagles want this game on the Monday public holiday every year and want the Tigers as the opponent.

We play ok over at Subi. The payoff for us may be that we may only have to Play Freo 1 time a year at the MCG.

:lol not sure they'd be keen after losing to what they'd have thought were easy beats. Don't mind the 2 Perth games like some clubs complain about. We nearly came away with 2 wins.  :shh

Andy D loved it ...

THE AFL is considering the introduction of more Monday night games into its fixture following the success of the West Coast-Richmond clash at the start of this week.

The public holiday game attracted nearly 38,000 fans to Patersons Stadium and significantly, a national TV audience of 345,000 on Fox Footy.

It was up against popular free to air TV shows including The Voice, House Rules, Masterchef and Q&A.

"It held its own. There's a lot to like about it," AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou said on Melbourne radio station SEN.

"It is quite possible we will trial a few more."

While they won't become part of the weekly fixture, Demetriou said the AFL might consider a Monday night match in each market next year.
