SUMMARY
Greater Western Sydney heads into its final home game of 2013 hoping to pick up a second win and also have a small say in the shaping of the top eight. They will be keen to give Kevin Sheedy a fitting farewell in the outgoing veteran's final home match as coach. Jeremy Cameron will also hope to stay right in the hunt in his impressive bid for the Coleman Medal. The Tigers need to keep winning and banking as much percentage as possible in the race for a home final. Their defeat to Carlton last week ended their top-four hopes and they are in a three-way dogfight for fifth place on the ladder with Collingwood and Essendon. Coach Damien Hardwick will expect a strong response after their fadeout against the Blues.
WHERE AND WHEN: Skoda Stadium, August 25, 3.20pm
TV AND RADIO: Click here for broadcast guide and odds (http://www.afl.com.au/tv-radio/broadcast-guide)
LAST MEETING
R12, 2012, Richmond 11.20 (86) d GWS 12.2 (74) at Skoda Stadium
THE SIX POINTS
1. GWS and Richmond meet for just the second time. Their previous meeting resulted in a 12-point win for the Tigers in the Giants' second ever appearance at their new Skoda Stadium home in round 12, 2012.
2. Sheedy coaches against Richmond for the 50th and final time. A three-time premiership winner with the Tigers as a player, his career coaching record against them reads 33 wins, 15 losses and one draw.
3. Trent Cotchin's talent is undeniable, but he has been a little inconsistent by his high standards in 2013, dropping him to 33rd overall in the Official AFL Player Ratings. Brett Deledio is the highest-ranked Tiger at No.24. Callan Ward (32nd) leads the Giants.
4. Sheedy has had a significant influence on opposition coach Hardwick's development as a player. No less than 153 of Hardwick's 207 AFL games were spent under Sheedy's tutelage at Windy Hill.
5. Tackling continues to be an issue for the Tigers. While they have gradually improved in that area over the course of the season, they are still ranked dead last in the AFL in that statistic. The tenacious young Giants are 15th.
6. Richmond has stepped up defensively, conceding just 82 points per game to be ranked fourth in the AFL. The bottom-placed Giants are 18th, letting in 134 points per game.

Cool we have been a bit short or quality threads been started this year

I believe the Mighty Tigers can win every match we play.
Therefore I truly believe we can win against GWS.
You guys just gotta have faith.
The more faith we have in the Tigers the better they will do.
Well that's how I feel any way.
:bow :gotigers :clapping ;D

The more faith we have in the Tigers the better they will do.
Interesting theory.
I find that nearly every time I go to send an SMS message to a certain friend, Richmond kick a goal.
Funnily enough, I hardly texted him after quarter time against the Blues. I wonder if I helped contribute to the loss. That and my lack of faith after McLean got his 3rd.

Lol, didn't say it was a theory
Just want people to baggin their own team continuously.
It's all I see on here rubbishing a team that they are suppose to love more than life itself.
Sorry can't follow in the footsteps of putting down the Tigers.
Oh and thanks for helpin us lose ;D

What if we have faith in the toof fairy?
-
All good, keep the positivity flowing :thumbsup
I can understand the negativity sometimes. People just want to make sure that we are not seeing a mirage.
I'm happy to enjoy that we are sitting 5th. Good on us. :gotigers

Yeah I get the negativity too!
I've been barrackin for the Tigers for more than 40 years, so I know first hand what the good times were like, and I sure as hell (like everybody else) know what the bad times are like. I've been that bloody angry some years, that I just wouldn't, COULDN'T watch anymore of the rest of some seasons, too damn heartbreaking.
BUT! I never put them down saying that we're going to lose or have a mental breakdown having hissy fits or what ever before the bounce of the ball.
Footy players are people too, and don't forget for one second that they don't look around the internet including forums like this, because trust me they do!
(Sorry not aiming this at you, thanks for your positivity :thumbsup )
So I do agree with you, enjoy it, we're in the finals, get into the spirit, it's a great feeling and hopefully this fantastic feeling will be around for the next decade or so.

Your lucky you have come to this board while we are up and about. If you cant believe the way people bag the team they love then you should of been around a few years ago. There are some on this board that just dont know how to be positive. Take them with a grain of salt and keep your positive attitude, we can always do with more of it here. Careful of the fishermen here too.
-
Having supported the Tiges for over 35 years I think my new found optimism each week relates to the fact that if we play near our best we will win most games. In the past even our best just wouldn't cut the mustard. Now with a solid playing list its more a case of getting the mental side of things right on game day.
-
Must win game.
Poo, you suck
;D
-
Back to the point at hand.
The Tigers are going to win, it's a must win game especially for confidence going into the finals.
Cotchin and Dusty will be back to their best. Morris and Rance will hold the fort while Vickery and Jack to kick 15 between them.
Kingy, well Kingy's just going to smash em all.
:gotigers
-
I truly believe we can win against GWS.
Really and truly ? I guess it's possible hey ? :shh
-
Danger game.
-
Cant treat them lightly
-
They'll beat us
Why ? They have only beaten the basket case of the AFL.
Or do you think we have fluked 5th on the ladder ?
-
They'll beat us
Why ? They have only beaten the basket case of the AFL.
When did they beat Essendon? ;D
-
Would like to see them upgrade Darrou for one run (put Mcbean on LTI list). That's if they can. He has been consistently in our best in the games he's played with the burgers. I also hope they retain him next year.
-
need to win it and win it well for our confidence.

Don't rest players then

Not advocating resting players at all. Worse thing you can possibly do.

Geez...Petterd makes Nahas look like a brownlow medalist!!!!
There is absolutely no valid reason for him to be playing...unreal!
Why isn't Jack resting his knee??? Any other coach finals bound would have left him out of a dead rubber!
-
Sloppy footy, no tackling and no defensive pressure out there at the minute. Plenty of missing open targets too :scream the last gave them that last goal with two secs to go :banghead. We look like we're getting smashed in the ruck too.
-
Jacko in traffic bombs it long and Az takes another good mark. 3 to him :gotigers.

Should win by 20 goals from here.
-
gimme 6th over 5th anyday for week 1 in the finals if Ess get dumped......let Coll play Carlton or Norf
\
cheers!
-
i think we handed off our flatness to GWS that 1/4.
sheeds will fire the kids up so i hope we dont just go through the motions in the 3rd . just get some early goals and demoralise them, then grind them into the dirt.

That was sweet

Geez we look flat
-
Geez we look flat
3rd flattest qtr in club history
-
Should be 100 already. Disgraceful.
-
This is a great half time score, from what I could see this is the second highest half time score in GWS' short history. St Kilda has the highest.
So hopefully set for an absolutely humungous score.
:gotigers
Keep it going boys :thumbsup
-
gimme 6th over 5th anyday for week 1 in the finals if Ess get dumped......let Coll play Carlton or Norf
\
cheers!
I'd happily take on Carlton again especially in the finals. We didn't have any of our small runners last week and you know the game will be at the 'G which is no guarantee if we had to play Port.
-
Don't take anyone off!! Frikkin loving this!!!
Glad half time came though as I need to give the voice a rest.
Cotch copping plenty of crap off the ball from Adams and Sumner.
Now the big question.... Will GWS take te field in the second half? There's a rumour that the Auskickers have been told to stay on the field!
-
Should be 100 already. Disgraceful.
It's inexcusable that we aren't

-
Missed the first half because I found out a important family friend was put into hospital for a nasty infection
Anyway god this 3rd qtr is boring
-

Forgettable quarter. Even worse than the first qtr. It's no point playing tempo footy if we stuff ourselves up and gift the opposition the momentum :banghead.
3/4 time
Richmond 4.4 15.9 19.10-124
GWS 3.0 3.1 6.4-40
Goals: A.Edwards 4, Conca 3, Vickery 2, Houli 2, Grigg 2, Riewoldt, Petterd, Morris, Maric, Ellis, S.Edwards

I'm bored!!! :whistle
Until then I wasn't.
Scrappy 10 point wins all the way that get us loving them, hating them and give us heart palpatations. :whistle
-
it actually amazes me to see how pathetic Foley if and how the turd still gets a game
he is absoluteshyte and better not play in finals ..
-

I know we are 15 goals up but stop lairising Tigers.
This is shocking. Should be up by 20 goals plus right now.
We will get punished with our lack of intensity by other sides.
We have only despatched them in 1 quarter of footy. Mentally we need to be switched on for a lot longer in September. Will be very disappointed if we do not win by 100 plus.

Gee whiz. I knew that one but thought there was maybe at least one since. We were probably the only team not to smash these new sides at least once. About time.

Well Done Tiges Proud to support the Mighty Mighty Tiges

20 goal plus win was what we deserved after than barnstorming 2nd quarter and being 80 points up. :cheers
6 goals to 1 was a nice finish to a good win. :bow
Already thinking of next week against Essendrugs. :gotigers
Just as a side not at we kicked in two quarters to the right of screen for the game 17.8.110 to 0.3.3. :thumbsup
-
Was good to see Adams picking up his future team mate Petterd off the ground after he collected him :cheers
-
We didnt get any injuries.
And We've got a larger percentage than Norf now. :thumbsup
-
We will beat Carlton or Adelaide if we meet them in the elimination final. If we play at MCG its 50/50 and if we play them at Etihad we are in trouble.
-
adelaide wont be playing finals
-
I've got to say - I reeeeeally enjoyed that. Stuffin sensational.
Really not worried about qtrs 1 and 3 because that 2 qtr was off the planet and the last qtr was also strong.
Very nice way to play yourself into form.
Lets rest the big 4 and treat round 23 as our "rest" going into the finals.

:nope
blew that chance last week

4. Tigers turn Giant killers
The manner of Richmond's victory had scribes searching through the record books.
The visitors' 80-point lead at halftime was their biggest since taking a 107-point advantage into the main break against North Melbourne way back in 1931.
Their 11.5 in the second quarter alone equalled the sixth highest total for a quarter in the club's history and biggest since booting 11.7 in Fitzroy's final ever match in 1996.

What did you think of Taylor Adams? Do we think he would be a good addition to our midfield. Have to say hes not lacking aggression or competitiveness. And seems like he can play.
-
Settle down, muthafuckers.
They ARE on the bottom of the ladder.....

I was hoping we'd chuck him on the flight back home :cheers was a ripper today for a side that got comprehensively flogged. Looks like he can play a run with role and win his own footy. That goal from outside on 50 on the boundary was a pearler. With Adelaide out possibly Essendon out of the draft, n0rf committed to their FS and Boyd to go early we will have access to some quality mids in the draft, and we'll just have to work out if Adams is better than a mid can get at our first pick. You would nearly have to say yes because he'll have three pre-seasons under his belt by next season and will slot in nicely along side Ellis, Conca, Martin and Vlastuin.

Just got back from the game and I have to say that it was a ripper. As I mentioned, I had to give up posting during the game as all the 3G bandwidth was being hogged by the GWS supporters updating their Facebook statuses to"sad".
Concs, Houli Ellis and Whitey were tearing it up the middle. Dusty was a ball magnet all day.morris was rock solid and really did well in the 1%ers. Jack was being monstered for most of the game and the umps were giving him nothing. Really impressed with Azza. Flossy had a great game. this kid is courage personified. Did a lot of really good things off the ball. Kingy looked rusty as did grimes but they will both benefit from the run. Rance was great down back, chappy was okay but his disposal was a bit ordinary at times. Petterd did some good things but he didn't set the world on fire. Ivan had a good game and played a good link up role. TV wasn't bad but I've seen him play better. He looked a little slow today. Grigg was average and went missing at times. Titch as neither here nor there but did one or two good things. Lids wasn't as bad a some here have suggested. In saying that When cotch was subbed I thought he would have lifted his intensity but he continued to coast a bit.
So Houli Concs and possibly flossy or Azza would be my top 3.
Finally, One good thing about a record crowd only being 12k is it only takes 5 min to leave the car park.

I thought edwards was great

The worst thing about this win is that I don't know any GWS supporters.
:lol

:lol
Just laugh at Carlton fans for losing to Essendon. :shh

Petturd is woeful
Just depth nothing else

doesn't matter it was GWS 20 Goal victorys don't come around often and it was a great step forward for us to finally put away a team, was rapt personally!
-
Can't say I was excited but it was nice to slaughter somebody at last. Not making the most of % against teams like Footscray, St Kilda and Brisbane left us below Collingwood.
Glad we got back up on the % side of things.
I just hope North doesn't sneak in and line up against us in the first week. That would be worrying IMO.
