RICHMOND

Ben Darrou
The 190cm key defender has enjoyed a terrific season with Coburg in the VFL, holding down full-back in every game he's played. Missed five games early in the year with a fractured cheekbone, but 2013 has otherwise been a year of significant improvement. Likely to be retained after his second season on the rookie list.

Sam Lonergan
The former Bomber has played some outstanding football with Coburg this season but has struggled to break into a full-strength Richmond midfield, playing just two AFL games. A consistent ball-winner and clearance specialist in the VFL, the 26-year-old should be retained as midfield depth next season. Could replace Shane Tuck in the engine room if needed.

Ricky Petterd
The former Demon was added to the rookie list as a forward but has found his place as a creative backman this season. Calf and groin injuries have restricted the 25-year-old to nine games at AFL level, but he has made a strong impact in those appearances. Elevated to the senior list pre-season, it would be a surprise if he was not promoted permanently for 2014.

Orren Stephenson
A strong back-up ruckman, the former Geelong big man has held his own in five games this season, earned mostly when Ivan Maric has been unavailable. Dominant at VFL level, the 31-year-old's future likely hinges on whether the Tigers are able to trade for a younger ruckman. Appears capable of playing on for at least one more season.

Steven Verrier
The rebounding defender has improved significantly in the second half of the season with Coburg. Playing on a wing or across half-back he has been a consistent ball-winner, but his disposal and decision-making can let him down. After two seasons on the rookie list he is fighting to retain his place.

Cayden Williams
The 19-year-old was set to be one of Coburg's main inside midfielders this season, but shoulder injuries have ruined his first year on the rookie list. A decision on whether he is retained in 2014 will likely be based on whether his shoulders will stand up to the rigours of AFL football.

darrou - dont know much about. it seems he has plaued some decent footy at coburg and is developing nicely. we do lack tall depth in defence.  keep.

lonergan - is a decent vfl player but just doesnt have the tools to succeed at afl level. shocking kick poor decision maker slow as a wet wick and just has not found enough ball at afl level. delist.

petterd - a tough one prefer to see him play forward.  his footskills are not good enough to play across hb. imo would rather see mcintosh grimes dea or even batchelor given games down back instead. would give another season as a forward but would cut him if he can only play back 50/50 keep/delist.

verrier -  a running player with poor skills delist.

williams - ithere is a lot to like about this kid. hes had a  injury plauged first yr definately keep.

stephenson - a total lack of ready to go ruck depth means we may keep him even if we manage to trade for a decent 21 -25yo ruckman.

we should cut a minimum of 2 as many as 4 depending on what we plan to do in the off season.

this yr i really hope we put much more time and effort into looking at state league players. id also like to see us target players at other clubs who are talented but arent getting a go and may have to wait awhile to get a go. lycett and longer come straight to mind. lets have a serious crack at obtaining one of these players.

if they continue to use the rookie list for players who can step straight up when injuries occur then any cut will just be replaced like for like, that is, players with AFL experience, a mature body, can perform at VFL level, but enough faults in their game that no one wants them on the list proper

Reckon O will stay as Derickx has to go. I like the rookies being mature players who only get a game due to injury, smart management if you ask me

yeah, until we build better depth it makes more sense than looking for the long shot kid to make the grade.
