Title: Missing targets just 20m away
Post by: mightytiges on August 14, 2005, 08:38:58 PM
Why can't a player like Hall who is under no pressure pass to another player (Campbell) 20 metres away who is not under press and hit him on the chest?  :banghead

Just basic skill errors letting us down  :banghead  :banghead  :banghead

Happened again this week too - Stafford on the boundary 25m out from goal misses a open Pettifer 20m away on a better angle and Moore? kicks out on the full trying to pass to a open teammate in the goalsquare ???. And let's not start talking about failing to hit targets by hand either :help

Still can't answer your question Moi of why we stuff up with such basic skills  ???.

deledio seems to be our only player who always hits a target, maybe they should just never kick short , and if they do and miss a target auto matic dragging

We might end up with only 1 guy on the field ;D but I would be happy to see that plus see a player dragged if he  kicks short to a contest or holds on to the ball far too long. I think Tambo more running going to and from the bench than he did during the game.

I think Tambo is not ready to play at the level yet and needs more time to develop both his game and his body. he appears to be very soft in the scrimmage area

Yeah. It appeared yesterday that he would have been better off leading from the goalsquare. Just looked lost elsewhere up forward. It would have been handy having someone lead to the opposite side of the ground to Richo.

I was thinking that on Sunday also. That will come with experience, needs to dominate those pack situations at Coburg for a season.

As for the kicking, I don't know what you can do. It has been atrocious this season, how can some people take their paycheque after their kicking amazes me. The kicking looks good at training, but under pressure on a Saturday it has been poor.

After such poor skills (last year, this year) you can understand why Wallce drafted Tambling, Meyer types.

Its not Tambos 'job' to be under the packs.

How often do you see McLoud or Wells feeding it out to the running player? You dont because they are the bloke whom the pill is feed.

What is his job then?

And whose job is it to get a hard ball then? I always thought it was everyone's job to get one.

if everyone goes in heads down who they gonna feed it out to?

i dont know but thats the reasoning i can see why some (generally the slower stronger smaller bodied guys) do the in n unders while the quick nippy pivot and run type get the recieve and go.

makes sense i suppose.

Of course its everyones job to get the pill when it is there but gernally our future midfeild will see Tuck, Cogs, Foley & Polo the blokes that will be in and under feeding Deledio, Tambling, Meyer, Raines and co.

Tuck and Cogs are currently 1 & 2 in the AFL for contested ball yet out midfeild continues to struggle. That is why the likes of Meyer and Tamlbing were drafting. Not much good getting the pill unless you have speed and skill to feed it to in the modern game.

That's true but IMO it's useful to have at least a couple of blokes who can play both roles. Someone who can at stoppages win the ball and break away from tackles at pace into space and either deliver lace-out spearing passes to leading forwards or feed off to supporting outside runners. Hopefully Deledio will be one who does both roles when he adds some more muscle/bulk.
