Title: 2016 Leadership Group
Post by: WA Tiger on October 27, 2015, 11:28:18 AM
So lets have a crack.

Morris surely won't be in it!! How many will we have?

Cotchin (Capt)
Deledio (VC)

Rance?
Edwards?
Jack?
Miles?

You forgot Maric

Maric was one of our vice captains in 2015 and I cannot see that changing

Only change I can see to the current leadership group is Morris out and either Jack or Rance in

I left Maric out, I think he needs to get his game back on track. How many extra will we have other than the C & VC?

Trent Cotchin (c)
Brett Deledio (vc)

Troy Chaplin
Ivan Maric
Nick Vlastuin

While Jack, Rance, Miles and even Houli all could get a gig, we need blokes from our younger core who have been around for 4 or so years to step up into leadership roles. Floss seems to have the best leadership qualities of this younger group.

So I'll go out on a limb and say Morris out and Floss in.

Totally agree with this

But I think Jack or Rance will come in for Morris

And perhaps they may expenad it 6 and include Vlastuin

Also believe Maric will remain as one of our V- Capt.

He is held in such high regard by the playing group and seeing the playing group select the leadership group, can't see him being removed from it or demoted

Sorry but pee off Ivvy and Chappy. They're not up to it in the big games.
Rance is a lock, so is Jack.

Star Richmond key defender Alex Rance isn’t fussed whether he’s officially a member of the Club’s playing leadership group or not.

Jack (captain)
Rance (vice)

Miles
Vlastuin
Grimes

Blokes who are prepared to stand up and take a hit.

Happy for Maric, Chaplin, Morris, Cotchin and Lids to all be omitted. Chaplin and Maric are getting on and almost cooked. Morris is no good. Cotchin and Lids should just be focussed on playing football/leadership without the tag.

It's hard to see Morris remaining in the leadership group as he's not in our best 22, but this quote from new recruit Adam Marcon might an explanation as to why Morris was voted into the leadership group in the first place ...

“I’ve been lucky enough to spend a fair bit of time around Trent Cotchin so far . . . just watching him, but also talking to him and understanding what he’s learnt.  Blokes like Steve Morris are really great for things like Club culture. There are obviously a lot of different personalities and a lot of different character types . . . You learn different things off different people, which is great.”

Cotchin
Deledio
Maric
Riewoldt
Grimes

Out: Chaplin, Morris
In: Grimes, Riewoldt

Rance can't be showing up to training in January and be part of the leadership group IMO.

If we are serious and accountable, Cotchin should be phased out due to crimes against opportunities for success - namely disastrous lack of leadership within finals, and to a lesser extent, other games.

Chaplin too but that goes without saying.

The ones who appear to have the best attributes at this stage:-

Riewoldt
Deledio (probably)
Rance
Vlastuin
Grimes (throw him in to learn).

ppl love to slam Cotchin but they forget he got us back into the game V Sydney on his own & had many other good games where he stood up when it mattered. sure he had a bad Final but he wasn't alone.

I dont forget

He played like a Divine being

As good as anything voss or Ablett/s done for mine, that performance

One quarter in specifically where he was in god mode

Have said the Sydney game his 2nd half was absolutely brilliant, best individual performance I'v seen in a long time

But for mine no matter how people want to sell it, in the most important game of 2015 and also 2014 he didn't stand up when it mattered, when we needed him to the most and that's exceptionally disappointing

Leaders stand up in finals and he hasnt' in our last 2

lmfao This post doesn't pass the rationality test by a loooooooooong way.

People love slamming him? Don't confuse the issue with people wanting accountability.

You say he stood up when it mattered but then inherently define that the games that matter are non-finals. Really?

You also suggest that his poor finals performances were tolerable because others played poor too. Well, being the captain, captains have less excuse than the rank and file and its your job to lead the way and lead others.

Seems many people struggle with what leadership actually means. It certainly doesn't mean what you have put on the table and That includes making manufactured excuses simply because you like him.

Clearly leadership means single handing beating Norf , which rested its best dozen the previous week , with a tagger up your ass , with a bad back , while carrying six funky chromosome wankers

I guess then his 9 disposals and meek efforts were par for the course  ::)

Interestingly the majority of the above didn't effect other players as much. He should have expected a tag and if his back was that bad he should have put his hand up and not played.

Not sure if putting up your hand to not play is part of the 1960s pagan mantra that Dimma has set his cute little heart on

Cotchin almost lost a limb vs freo and while back and was not rested.

Norf Resting everyone didn't effect the player much team  good one

I dont get it, on one hand you say he is capable of "god mode", yet on the other you say his 9 possession elimination final was fine.

Why are you defending a performance like that when you know he is capable of so much more?

Are you in denial?

If Cotchin played every game, like he did that quarter vs Sydney

He'd now be te greatest footballer in the games history

You not getting it means not much
