Trent Cotchin will lead the Richmond team for a fourth consecutive year as Tigers’ captain, with the Club finalising its player leadership group for 2016.
Joining the five-man leadership group is reigning Jack Dyer Medal winner and All Australian defender, Alex Rance, and dynamic small forward, Shane Edwards.
Remaining in the leadership group is Brett Deledio, Ivan Maric and Cotchin.
At the end of 2015, Rance, 26, capped off his best season at Richmond, winning the Club’s Best and Fairest award and receiving All Australian honours for the second consecutive year.
The talented tall defender has long been recognised by his teammates as an influential leader, with a strong voice on and off the field.
Edwards, 27, has improved his game each season and is regarded as a key cog in the Richmond team amongst the playing and coaching group.
Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Dan Richardson said Rance and Edwards’ inclusions are a credit to both players’ development in recent seasons.
“Alex and Shane both continuously drive the standards that we expect at our football club, and we know they’ll continue to do that in the responsibilities of their new roles,” Richardson said.

What a joke Chappy is

Morris is Forrest gump

I love Rancey but I'm sure the guy should be rewarded with a leadership position when he takes extended leave - unless it's a one off.
Sends a compromised message to players about leadership and commitment.

When the rest of te spuds are top ten players in the game - then they can hve time off for Mormon reasons in December too

Yeah we should keep the bloke whose lack of composure cost us the EF instead...
-
9 possessions. Why is Cotch still captain?

Players vote on it & they seem to have no issue

If you're only wanting blokes who've performed in finals then there isn't much choice - Cotchin is one of only 6 players that has at least one good finals match under his belt.

Yep leadership gorup is selected by the players & coaches
With players having the final vote
Captain is then ratified by the board

Very good group this!! Well rounded and more versatile. Would like to see Edwards become more vocal on the field this year too.

Mr Sheds! I massively approve of this. Was awesome for us before the fibula break. Should have also been awarded for the tackle he laid in the EF as well.

About the only thing he's done in three finals...and even Grigg did the same thing in the 2013 EF....except he was awarded the decision...
-
Hope he doesn't break a leg...

What was his excuse v Carlton & Port?

Grigg? Rubbish at football
Titch? Still developing :shh

Shane Edwards was in cracking form before his fibula injury. Even though the fibula doesn't bear a lot of weight I don't believe he fully recovered from this injury. When fit he makes our team better as he can help with midfield rotations and kick the odd goal
