Dimma's post-match presser:
* First three quarters were good. The last was disappointing. Belted in clearances and contested ball. Our contested footy was good in the first 3 qtrs but we were just not good enough in the end.
* Focus has been on moving the ball quickly for a while. It's all about confidence. Good from that point of view that we took the game on.
* We didn't take our chances (mentioned the 3rd qtr in particular). For example, Ty missed a shot and the Hawks then ran it down for a goal. Hawks used the ball well and made sound decisions. We coughed up the ball such as handballing off the ground and giving Hawthorn a goal.
* Disappointed we lost and with our last quarter, but certainly some positives tonight.
* At least we saw some scoring tonight but the opposition kicked 130.
* Yep, we're 18th in giving up late goals. Been blown out of the water in that part of the game.
* Corey Ellis showed he's going to be a good player for us. Menadue did some nice things.
* Played 3 first year players tonight. They get tired. Rioli's tackling was good but he got tackled a fair bit tonight himself. He'll be a special player for us.
* Maric - just not playing as good as footy as we'd like. He's had a back complaint and is not moving as freely as he'd like. Important player for us and hopefully he goes back to VFL and rediscovers that AFL form.
* Can't remember Ty interchange. Some times it's difficult to get players off [to get someone else on]. It would've been part of our rotations.
* Both sides had players out. Even ball game. They've got that high end experience. We only had Chaplin over 30. We're an inexperienced group in comparison. Opportunity lost tonight though.
* Not playing well enough and we accept the responsibility. Looking forward to the Swans next week. Get players back - Rance, Cotch and Grimes hopefully. Conca wil play VFL.
* We'll look at the tapes and take the positives out of it but there's also things to work on. We haven't had a side kick 9 goals in a quarter against us for some time.
* Vlastuin good early in the middle. Incredibly clean and tough. Different kettle of fish playing midfield compared to down back. Pleased with what we saw. We'll see if we continue with it.

Every time he came out Hawthorn would get a run on, stick the kid in the guts and leave him the FFS!!!

Well that's the thing with competitive sport.You need to score MORE than the other team to win, don't you think?

Sure....but taking a game on is relative to your last performance...which have all been consistently terrible.

So once again, you're happy to concede defeat for the 6th consecutive time this season by simply stating that you were not good enough in the end?

It's great that you see positives in a sixth straight defeat by almost 40 points.

Step forward despite loss: Hardwick

RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick insists the Tigers “took steps forward” against Hawthorn, despite his besieged team slumping to a 46-point loss and a sixth consecutive defeat.
The Tigers trailed the Hawks by nine points at the last change after a much-improved first three quarters, but surrendered meekly in a last quarter in which they were outscored 9.2 to 3.1. Hawthorn kicked 12 of the last 15 goals of the match.
But Hardwick was noticeably more upbeat than in recent weeks.
“Listen, don’t get me wrong, we are incredibly disappointed to lose games, but three quarters we were pretty good in the contest,” Hardwick said.
“It’s easy just to look at the last quarter and feel down, but the reality is we played reasonable football for three quarters. We’re disappointed we lost the game, the last quarter we’ll go through and look at a few things, but there were certainly some positives to come out of the game tonight.
“The first three quarters ... our effort and intensity were there. We played some pretty good footy; (we) just weren’t good enough in the end. We just got belted around in clearances and contested possession in that last quarter and they controlled the ball.
“It was probably a game where ... we didn’t capitalise enough. We just had some bits of play where Hawthorn were too classy and made sound decisions, where we coughed it up and turned the ball over.
“We can’t have sides kicking nine goals against us (in a quarter). That hasn’t happened in a long, long time.”
Hardwick was buoyed by the imminent return of several experienced regulars, with Dylan Grimes (hamstring) and Alex Rance (suspension) ready to resume against Sydney and skipper Trent Cotchin almost certain to join them.
“We’re not playing well enough. We accept responsibility, accountability and all those things. We’ve just got to make sure we bounce back,” he said.
“I’m really excited about the challenge of Sydney next week.”

Trio of Tigers likely to return to take on Swans

RICHMOND captain Trent Cotchin is set to return for next Saturday's crucial clash against the Sydney Swans, despite undergoing surgery on a fractured cheekbone this week.
Cotchin suffered his injury early in last Saturday night's loss to Port Adelaide, but bravely played out the game.
The Tigers had initially expected him to miss two rounds after he had surgery on Monday.
But Richmond coach Damien Hardwick was confident his skipper would return for the Swans clash, when he spoke to the media after the Tigers' 46-point loss to Hawthorn at the MCG on Friday night.
"He'll play, I reckon," Hardwick said matter-of-factly.
Richmond will also regain key defender Alex Rance against the Swans after a two-week suspension, while Hardwick expects Dylan Grimes will be available after overcoming a hamstring injury.
Reece Conca will return to the field next week too, but the midfielder will come back via the VFL having been sidelined since injuring his hamstring in the Tigers' NAB Cup loss to Port Adelaide.
"We're starting to get some players back on track which is a positive for us," Hardwick said.
When fit, Ivan Maric has been Richmond's No.1 ruckman since crossing from Adelaide ahead of the 2012 season.
However, Maric, 30, was dropped for the Hawks clash after finishing with just four disposals in the Tigers' round five loss to Port Adelaide.
Hardwick said it had been a "very tough" decision to omit Maric, but expected the big man to bounce back.
"He's an outstanding leader of our footy club, a spiritual leader of our footy club. He just isn't playing as good a football as we'd like," Hardwick said.
"Look, he has had some significant injuries. He had a back complaint (but) he's moving as freely as we'd like, so once again it's just a circuit breaker to go back and get some form because he's important.
"We love what he brings to our footy club. He's been enormous for us over the time I've been here, so we hope he just goes back and reclaims his form as an AFL ruckman."
Hardwick was "really excited" by the prospect of playing the Swans next round, saying he took confidence from his team's performance in the first three quarters of Friday night's game, when it dominated at times and went into the final break just nine points down.
But the Richmond coach was also mindful his players needed to learn some lessons from the last quarter when they conceded nine goals to the Hawks.
"Don't get me wrong, we're incredibly disappointed to lose games, but three quarters of the game we were pretty good in the contest," Hardwick said.
"It's easier just to look at the last quarter and feel down, but the reality is we played pretty reasonable football for three quarters.
"The last quarter we will go through and look at a few things that happened, but there were certainly some positives to come out of the game tonight."

Carlton or Brisbane keeping the reigning premiers in check for 3 quarters is a step forward for them.
We finished 5th last year and beat the hawks.

That's the truth of it. We need change and that starts with dimwit Hartley and the rest of the clowns.
A 9-11th which i expect us to finish on has been our downfall for many years.

Hardwick could pre-record his presser and it would still be relevant post game. Same issues every week and the same passengers making the same mistakes. Yes we were competitive for 3 quarters but in those 3 quarters the same players making the same mistakes held us back from being more than competitive. We really need to move a large number of passengers on at the end of the season. Hardwick hoping that things will simply click is not going to happen, you cant gift the opposition 8 goals a game from inept play week after week and expect to get anywhere near close to opposition teams.

The situation is only going to change if there is a complete sweep out at the club. Unfortunately the club and particularly Hardwick is in complete denial and therefore unless someone at board level has the courage to do something brave we are heading full steam ahead to the bottom of the ladder.
