Crowd 14k

Richmond has won the past two clashes against the in-form Swans, but Vickery said a strong recent record against John Longmire's men would count for little.
"They're in really good form and we need to play well for four quarters, not just three quarters," he said.
"Records are nice when you look back on them, but it really means nothing coming into the match.
"We don't shy away from our record, but we think we've turned a bit of a corner and we played a style (against Hawthorn) that's going to win us matches."
Saturday night's clash will be dedicated to the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, with Richmond wearing a special jumper featuring the charity's logo and purple trimming.

Match preview: Richmond v Sydney Swans
AFL.com.au
12 May 2016
SUMMARY
At 1-6, there appears little hope going into Saturday night's clash that the Tigers will revive their season and play finals. They are no longer expected to challenge opposition like the Swans, but Damien Hardwick's men have proved in past seasons that their form can change in an instant. The return of All Australian defender Alex Rance and captain Trent Cotchin will give the club optimism that a reversal of fortune can still happen. They are facing one of the AFL's form teams in the Swans, with John Longmire's men coming off a sixth win in seven games. Superstar Lance Franklin has been a key to their imposing form and, with 29 goals this season, he is the man the Tigers must make a priority, with the midfield battle also crucial.
WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Saturday, May 10, 7.25pm AEST
LAST FIVE TIMES
R13, 2015, Richmond 14.11 (95) d Sydney Swans 11.11 (77) at the SCG
R23, 2014, Richmond 10.8 (68) d Sydney Swans 9.11 (65) at ANZ Stadium
R14, 2014, Sydney Swans 9.8 (62) d Richmond 7.9 (51) at the MCG
R18, 2013, Sydney Swans 16.14 (110) d Richmond 9.9 (63) at the SCG
R7, 2012, Richmond 13.13 (91) d Sydney Swans 8.14 (62) at the MCG
THE SIX POINTS
1. Jack Riewoldt was the star in a brilliant stuff the last time these sides met, kicking six goals to reel in a 32-point half-time margin. Richmond kicked 11 goals to three in the second half to win.
2. The Swans continue to dominate their opposition in inside 50s, ranked first in the AFL with an average of 65.1. In contrast, Richmond is ranked 16th with an average of 47.1 a game.
3. The Swans are the number one contested possession team so far in 2016, averaging 166.4 per game. Richmond, which prided itself on contested ball in 2015, is struggling in this area, ranked equal 11th with 138.9 per game.
4. Richmond has won three of the last four MCG clashes between these sides. The Swans, who play their first game at the venue in 2016, won their only two matches at the MCG in 2015.
5. The Swans are the third ranked scoring side in 2016 averaging 111 points a game, well up on their 2015 average of 88. Richmond is kicking 81 points a game this season compared to 87 in 2015.
6. Swans midfielder Luke Parker is on a continuous climb up the Official AFL Player Ratings, brought to you by Schick, jumping from No.20 overall to No.18 in round seven. He has been the Swans' No.3 ranked player since round 17 last season.
IT'S A BIG WEEK FOR … Bachar Houli.
The rebounding defender has been subdued this season and the Tigers have been moving him around to try and spark his form. He spent time forward last Friday night against the Hawks and has had kick-in duties taken off him for periods this season. With the spotlight on others, Houli, who is an important cog when at his best, will feel the pinch if his own form doesn't improve quickly.
PREDICTION: Sydney Swans by 36 points

Swans sweating on key trio's fitness
AFL.com.au
12 May 2016
SYDNEY Swans coach John Longmire is sweating on the availability of veterans Ted Richards, Kieren Jack and Ben McGlynn for Saturday night's clash with Richmond at the MCG.
Richards has missed the past two matches with a fractured eye socket, while co-captain Jack (ankle) and McGlynn (corked thigh) were both injured in the Swans' 81-point win over Essendon last week at the SCG, but managed to play out the game.
The trio will need to get through the team's final training session and pull up well before being certainties to make the trip to Melbourne on Friday to take on the Tigers.

'Trench warfare' on cards between Sydney Swans, Richmond Tigers
Andrew Wu
The Age
13 May 2016
John Longmire has good reason to be guarded against one of his bogy teams, Richmond, whose coach Damien Hardwick has told his players to prepare for "trench warfare" against the hard-nosed Swans.
There are only four clubs against which the Swans coach has a negative win-loss record. Two of them, Hawthorn and Geelong, have won four of the past five flags. Another, Fremantle, has been a regular top-four side, and the other team is Richmond.
The Tigers have not won a final under Hardwick, but have a surprisingly good record against the Swans, who they have beaten in four of their past six matches. They even beat the Swans in a premiership year while finishing a lowly 12th.
Apart from the final round of 2014, when Sydney rested several stars against a Tigers side needing to win to feature in September, the Swans have had no excuses.
Two major reasons stand out to explain why the Swans have so much trouble against a side they have finished above in each of Longmire's five seasons at the helm.
One is Jack Riewoldt, who has been one of the few forwards to get the better of Ted Richards in recent years, and the other is the Tigers' ability to beat the Swans for contested possessions. In each of the Swans' four losses to the Tigers, they have been well beaten in this key stat.
But led by the grunt of Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery and Luke Parker, the Swans have improved their work in the clinches this year, rising from mid-table to be second for contested possession differentials.
"We've been really strong inside, which has been good," Longmire said. "Our midfield group have been strong inside and all over the ground. The contested side of the game has been so important for us.
"It certainly allows us to get our hands on the ball, then it's a matter of what we do from there on in."
One knock against the Swans has been a perceived lack of pace once the ball is free, but Hardwick knows the Tigers cannot exploit any weakness if they do not win the ball first.
"There's a couple of things we can do well against certain sides, Sydney's one of those sides," Hardwick said. "It's always a tough contested battle against Sydney. I think they've got three of the top six players in contested ball.
"It's easy to say you want to beat them on the outside, but you've got to beat them inside in their own game first and foremost. Their pressure around the contest and tackle numbers is elite, as are contested ball.
"It's going to be a bit like trench warfare this week. They have 66 entries inside 50, if we give them that kind of supply inside 50 we won't win."
Riewoldt's ability to kick goals against such a miserly defence has been crucial in the Tigers' success against the Swans. He has kicked 23 goals in his past seven games against Sydney, including a bag of six last year.
The forward, who is likely to have Richards or Dane Rampe as his opponent, is also one of the few Tigers enjoying a strong 2016.
"He's been having a great season, he's added so much more versatility to his game," Longmire said. "He's up the ground a lot more than what he was a few years ago. He's such a beautiful kick, not just for goal but as a field kick, and he's been using that to great effect when he's been up the ground.
"That provides a couple of challenges in on our defensive group, to make sure we get the right match-ups on where he is."

:lol...100 points :rollin :rollin
-
LMFAO, Vickery misses from 30, Buddy dobs one from 70..,, lolololol
-
Taylor Hunt is the dumbest prick in football. SACK HIM TOMORROW he is dumb :banghead :banghead :banghead
-
What the hell is wrong with B Ellis? Constant passes to a team mate under oressure
-
Dumma and his mate hunt combine again. Hunt to anyone but a tiger. How could he play for the tigers
-
NO poo l'm in my 50's & l can kick a ball on the MCG 50 metres straight. These pee weak footballers get paid heaps & can't kick for crap
-
:rollin Efwards lace out to the opposition :help
-
l'm so glad Grimes is back he gives 100%.
Brandon Ellis must be dropped he makes way too many critical mistakes. We are paying to watch this. Us the supporters need to speak up & stop this ugly mistake riddled football
-
Well done Dusty :gotigers
-
Umpires hate us no frees, 50 metres very short.
Great goal Miles
Work Hard Tigers :gotigers
-
Well what could have ended up a drubbing is actually looking better.
-
We still lack players with elite skills, Lids probably our closest but the others have too many clangers for my liking.
-
Dusty going well as is Miles.
-
Loved the start - Grigg 50 metres behind Heeney who runs into an open goal and chaplins pathetic girly attempt to touch buddys goal on the line. Stretch up and jump you stuffing gumby. Watching those two, hunt and griff is comedy gold
-
If they kicked then easy missed goals we would be right in the game
-
Taylor Dummy Hunt first choice on a free kick to go backwards. Kick it to the forwards ya dumb prick
-
7 useless kick & turnover :banghead :banghead ball went not one foot forward :banghead
-
l fear the day Morris will break his neck doing that. l pray he never does
-
After all that effort they are having a shot....... :help
-
Lloyd.....geez....
-
Seeing some football worth watching here. We miss another set shot easy goal on our home ground :banghead
-
Why in the world would Vlaustin get the ball in the middle and pass it to B Ellis with three players on him?
Why doesn't lloyd play on when he takes a mark in the middle with no one on the mark he could've run to 50 and slotted it through?
Mark. Stop. Mark stop. Mark. Stop. Mark. Stop. Mark. Stop.
:banghead :banghead :banghead
This is a load of Bull.
-
Bloody miss again....
-
THunt and that fgt girl Griffiths what a pair of duds
FMD take the mark u stupid girl
-
Another easy set shot by Corey Ellis missed. we should be level
-
Griffiths goal & we are only 8 points down :gotigers
-
Griffos softness finally pays dividends!
-
Well this is the sort of play we were used to last year. Great effort
-
Thank Hampson for blocking to get that out
Ellis softy goal 2 points lock it down for halftime :gotigers
-

-
Griffos softness finally pays dividends!

-
Griffos softness finally pays dividends!
Wake up. Oh look he did it again....
Well Griff can hold his head up. :clapping
-
Wake up Tigers ;D ;D ;D
:gotigers
-
l have always said use them 200cm giants & kick it long. Goals will be scored & games will be won.
You can't win games going sideways, backwards,. Hardwick best move B.Ellis to the forward line. Hampson doing well in the Ruck contests & blocking. Dusty, Miles, Lids killing them
-
Grif very lucky. Both frees not there but at least his confidence is up
-
Lids 25 touches to half time. :o
64 more effective possessions as well.
9 more tackles.
Effort is high, intent is more relentless.
-
looks like we've just come into the season proper after another extended preseason, I swear we seem to take 6-8 rounds before we start looking like a footy side each season
-
At the game. Still making stupid decisions but the effort to lock the ball in and repell it back inside F50 from about 70-80 out is ferocious and paying dividends.
-
looks like we've just come into the season proper after another extended preseason, I swear we seem to take 6-8 rounds before we start looking like a footy side each season
Yeah but we can't afford that
-
Grif very lucky. Both frees not there but at least his confidence is up
First one was a free, Grundy looking at Griff before bumping him was a dead giveaway
-
Griffos softness finally pays dividends!
Wake up. Oh look he did it again....
Well Griff can hold his head up. :clapping
Hold his head for what?
Softest free kicks in the history of time given to the softest player in the history of time. :clapping
-
With our low skill level we are playing a very high risk keepings off game. While it works its great but i feel a couple of turnovers resulting in goals and the heads will drop, hope i am wrong.
-
Grif very lucky. Both frees not there but at least his confidence is up
First one was a free, Grundy looking at Griff before bumping him was a dead giveaway
Incorrect
-
Grif very lucky. Both frees not there but at least his confidence is up
what are you watching. The 1st free was clearly there. Player had eyes only for Griffo & hit him then looked at the ball. The 2nd one was clearly there also so dont know what your on :snidegrin
-
That hit on Vlaustin will be sited by the Match review but being a Swans player no action will be taken
-
3 more easy misses. Kick the ball properly
-
COME ON :gotigers
-
7.13...... :help
We will win this.
-
How do they miss :banghead
-
Vickery missed also :banghead
-
4.10 from set shots
-
If the Swans walked off the ground with 10 to go i still dont think we could kick a winning score. :banghead
-
Oh for goodness sake :banghead
-
Wow what a let down. All those missed shots and they got one shot and scores are level. We should be up by 4 goals.
-
How the stuff is not holding the ball?
-
How the stuff is not holding the ball?
And again!
-
Dusty what are you doing
-
WTF is Rance doing, Buddy is towelling him up.
-
You've played a great game so far Dusty but that was poo!
-
Menadue is not ready for AFL
-
No one can convince me that our players are not told to look for the short option first. Dusty can kick 60 and tries a 5 metre pass...WTF!!!
-
We miss 4 in a row they kick 3 in a row and 5 to Buddy... :scream
-
Griffiths has gone leg injury
-
Star power, we have little and other teams have more, we have to work so hard for opportunities and waste them, the stars make something out of nothing.
-
I'm calling this as done.
-
Griffiths. :lol :rollin :lol
-
Ellis has stopped, Idiotwick has moved Griff to the backline and we have stopped...
-
Hampson killing it in the Ruck but over mids are just not reading it properly
-
Vlas is in the backline.......ffs why???
-
What stupid play. Kick the damn thing forward :banghead :banghead
-
Brandon Ellis must go his a dumb prick
-
Hardwick made some stupid changes in that qtr that killed us, why??
-
Bellis you are a stuffing turd
Griff, Vickery, hunt, Chaplin, how the stuff are we meant to win playing with these uncompetitive clowns
-
Hardwick gone defensive trying for an honourable loss. Horrible coaching and has changed the flow of the game. If he hasnt got the balls to make attacking moves then move him on. Selfish coaching in my view, too conservative and thats his problem, always has been and always will be.
-
Bellis you are a stuffing turd
Griff, Vickery, hunt, Chaplin, how the stuff are we meant to win playing with these uncompetitive clowns
Yes. Griff the only exception, was good tonight before the obligatory injury
-
Great start come on guys
-
:gotigers Griffo
-
See ffs :banghead :banghead...Griff back in the forward line instead of the backline and what happens :banghead
YOU IDIOT HARDWICK

-
See what happens when you kick the footy forward??
-
See what happens when you kick the footy forward??
And put the stuffing players back in the position they should be in
-
Hampson was killing it and now he is on the pine :banghead
-
If they Brandon Ellis get a game next week the club is going to know about it :banghead :banghead :banghead
That cost us a goal again
-
Good one Ellis. Got too cocky and now they're coming back at us >:(
-
Hampson was killing it and now he is on the pine :banghead
It hurts to agree with you
Hampson been SUPER
That move killed us
-
OMG can't even take a mark
-
If we lose this I blame Harwick 100% because of his rubbish moves after half time and the benching of Hampson.
-
Geez are we trying to lose now
-
So we go forward & there are not one big forward WTF drugs is this club on in the forward coach
-
griffo back up there & we get a goal. Leave the bigs up there with Rioli
-

Relax, that's a win for the ages.
-
l still can't believe after missing all them easy goals that Lloyd kicked that goal under so much pressure & every Swans player near back there ;D
:gotigers
-
See ffs :banghead :banghead...Griff back in the forward line instead of the backline and what happens :banghead
YOU IDIOT HARDWICK
The reverse post of the year. Put him up forward were he belongs and give him a decent go at it (without the stupid injuries he gets)
-
WOOHOO :gotigers
-
That is the best game l have ever seen Hampson play. He killed them all night. :clapping :clapping :clapping
And Griff. He actually looked like an AFL player tonight. ( except for the helmet :lol)
-
Lets all enjoy it. We have lots to talk about. :snidegrin
-
Griff was phenomenal tonight, was physical, slotting goals, was sublime for a bigman in the clinches getting off deft handballs...everything we thought he could be...wtf has he been hiding this?
-

Wot he said
:)

you forgot spinning out of tackles. having a bounce. running & running. The confidence this lad will gain when he was injured at one stage l thought he was done
Best l reckon was Hampson, Griffiths, Martin, Miles.
-
When can we start buying finals tickets?

All showed intent which has been lacking, amazing what a bit of confidence can do to players.

Holy stuff :clapping :clapping :clapping
-
What a win. :cheers Bloody awesome. :gotigers
Besides the crucial misses, I thought Jack was phenomenal tonight. If Griffiths plays like this every week I'll never call him a girl again. Glad the coach didn't drop Rioli. Martin was very good. Leave Vlastuin in the middle.
The Spud tapped well tonight but he's still useless around the ground, didn't even attemp to spoil Tippet in the last, his tap work was very good though and the midfielders really read them well.
Lids was awesome set us up and set the standard early, should be captain.
Where would we be without Rance in the team.
I was glad Lloyd had the kick after the siren too.
Chaplin is useless, enough said. This win gives the list manager another reason to feel we aren't that far away. Expect Chaplin, Morris, Hunt & Hampsud contract extensions this week. :rollin

Agree Hampson was okay. His tap work in the second and fourth quarters gave us the clearance advantage. He even did an effective block in the second quarter. He won the ruck contest. But having said that he was not up against a quality ruckman and he did not do much around the ground.
-
This was a game where our cream rose to the top.-Rance, Lids, Martin and Jack were all very good. Jack played a very unselfish and team oriented game. He set up numerous goals and laid some great tackles which should have been rewarded. Credit to Lloyd for kicking under pressure.

True, but they happen every game and everyone accepts them as part of the game in the end. We can't always be the ones getting the rough end of the stick, just through the law of averages.

Dusty and Griff made the AFL team of the week:
HFF: DUSTIN MARTIN (Richmond) – Brilliant around stoppages, Martin's 28 possessions and eight tackles helped inspire the Tigers to a thrilling win.
FP: BEN GRIFFITHS (Richmond) – Kicked five goals, including three in the vital final quarter against the Swans, and Tiger fans will be hoping it's a sign of things to come.
