Dustin Martin set to remain a Tiger, club president says
Alice Coster,
Herald Sun
January 28, 2017
DUSTIN Martin is set to remain a Tiger, at least according to the club prez.
And footy’s first female president, Peggy O’Neal, usually gets her own way.
There is still speculation the midfield dynamo might consider his options beyond this season when his contract at Richmond expires at the end of the year. But O’Neal (below) says she has no reason to doubt Dusty will remain loyal and continue to sport the yellow and black.
“We have every expectation that he will (stay), and have no indication that he is anything but happy at Richmond,” O’Neal told Page 13. Despite some off-field controversy, including so-called “chopstick-gate” and his dad’s deportation, Martin is coming off a career-best season in which he was named an All-Australian and finished third in the Brownlow.
He was named a Tigers life member in December, and O’Neal had nothing but praise for the inked-up star who she says has “grown up a lot”.
“We have respect for one another but he is not someone I catch up with regularly. We don’t hang around together,” O’Neal said at Tennis Australia’s second Celebration of Inspirational Women brunch.

My Bummers mate was telling me that Essendon are circling Dusty
-
I've heard from someone I know at GWS that next year they are going to make a huge play for Dusty involving a high draft pick and gun young player
-
The cleaner at my kids school fishes with a bloke who takes a cab with a guy who heard from a passenger that the Doggiesare into him big time. Apparently offering a second rate ruckman who trains the house down and a high draft pick for Dusty.
-
Will need to offer him big bucks to stay. No way around it.
He will get offered $800,000-1,200,000 anywhere else.
We'll have to offer him at least $4million over five years to stay.
-
Saints into him heavily..... :shh

They're offering Hopper & a high pick - we want Kelly & Tomlinson.... :shh :shh

Richmond star Dustin Martin has put off contract talks until the end of the season
Jon Ralph, Herald Sun
DUSTIN Martin’s management has told Richmond the star will put off contract talks until the end of the season.
Martin’s manager Ralph Carr is expected to speak to Richmond representatives on Tuesday about his player’s status after recently informing them he wanted to wait on his contract.
The Herald Sun reported last year Martin had been guided by public comments by Fremantle’s Nathan Fyfe, who said he wanted to gain all available evidence before making a decision on his future.
Martin is a restricted free agent, which means the Tigers can match a deal for him at the end of the season.
Martin has close relationships with the club’s coaches and players but is in no hurry to rush into a premature deal.
The Tigers would likely have to come up with a bumper deal worth around $1 million a year to expedite any arrangement.
Carr refused to comment but is set to meet with Richmond’s Neil Balme and Dan Richardson Tuesday to discuss the impasse.
Martin won the club’s best and fairest last year and polled the most votes of any Richmond player.

Makes the Prez look a little silly. Why say anything at all if there wasn't an extended contract signing imminent?

We will do everything we can to ensure he stays but if he decides to leave, we should get 2 top 10 picks in this years via a trade. 4 first round draft picks could set us up but prefer him to stay :pray

The Ole Merkin up to his old tricks.
Wrap him up into a nice little present this year but a bow on him in September and pee him off for 2 1st rounders or the like if he wants to wait it out.

Think it'll have more to do whether Hardwick is still around than if we make finals, although making finals would/should directly influence that :shh

Really, wow, that's a surprise. Well, make finals and win one, Hardwick stays, don't and really he should go. I would have thought it was more about finals for Dusty than Hardwick.

Apparently according to the Herald Sun yesterday Dustin Martin's management were supposed to be meeting with the club yesterday. Does anyone know what happened?

From Mark Robinson's twitter:
"Dusty Martin will stay a Tiger. Club looked after him through all kinds of development and public issues (chopsticks) and will give him ...
800k which is what he should be paid.. He won't leave. His manager plays a funny game when it comes to negotiations."

Phew, Robbo's spoken
-
Given the CBA stuff still to play out I'm not surprised he's holding off. Probably understands he will be our highest paid player and I don't think anyone would care if we have to pay a million a season. I admit I'm one that got sucked in last time and for that I won't jump the gun. I think he'll most likely stay unless the club absolutely implodes on and off field which is completely understandable.
I just think it's funny that this time last year he was one of the most disliked players among opposition supporters now every tom, idiot and harry thinks they're a front runner to get him.
-
I say that we should let Martin make his decision with no pressure and with no ridiculous offers from us.
Martin carries a lot of baggage for any team trying to get his signature. As such they probably won't be willing to part with quite as many dollars as a player who has leadership qualities and is a gun. I think you may be surprised how sides may baulk at offering him too much when it comes to the business end of proceedings.
We should sit tight, maybe make a reasonable offer that will net us an early first round compensation pick if it is surpassed and wait.

We're stuffed! Martin is gone. Blobbo has never got anything right and famously said Beams is not leaving Collingwood take it to the bank.

Well yes, although he isn't as good as Buddy IMHO.
Hawthorn went on to win 2 more premierships and Sydney have none since the Buddy deal.
