Yes! Lennon marks well and puts it through for our first goal.  :gotigers

Werribee answer back with one that dribbles across the line.  :(

A skipper's goal! Darley snaps one on the left for his first goal of the year!  :gotigers

One more for Lennon! A super effort from 40 out on a tough angle.  :gotigers

Werribee peg one back to reduce our lead to 4.  :(

Another one for Werribee who now take the lead.  :(

Werribee are now out to a nine point lead after some dangerous forays forward.  :(

From misfortune opportunity knocks. Time to give Chol a run and see what he can do - by the sounds of it Soldo has either done an acl or pcl, Elton his collarbone, Griff is in limbo and Maric is cooked.

If Chol fails abysmally we'll then have to look at bringing Garthwaite in. Theres nothing left lol

He plays as a marking, lead up forward in the twos and seems to do pretty well, and then he is asked to play a different roll when he plays at AFL level.
Dimma does that with a few young players.

Inside midfielder Anthony Miles picked up 34 disposals in Richmond's five-point loss to Werribee in Beaconsfield on Saturday.

Miles' balance of inside and outside play was a particularly impressive aspect of his game.

The 25-year-old has played just two games in the senior team this season but has been racking up the footy in the VFL.

Meanwhile, smart forward Ben Lennon slotted four goals to again press his claims for promotion. Lennon was drafted at No. 12 in 2013 and is out of contract at the end of the season. He booted three goals against Essendon last week.

He contested well both in the air and on the ground.

Fellow former first round selection Corey Ellis collected 30 disposals playing on a wing and looked a class above.

Experienced ruckman Ivan Maric rucked the final quarter without a break against listed North Melbourne players Braydon Preuss and Majak Daw.

Ivan Soldo
landed awkwardly earlier in the game and was injured while fellow big man Todd Elton finished the match in a sling after suffering a shoulder injury.

Defender Nathan Broad looked as if he hadn't missed a beat in his comeback from an AC joint injury in his right shoulder, and was named among the best players as he notched up 21 disposals, six marks and six tackles.

VFL Tigers dealt five-point loss
RFC website
4 June 2017

Richmond VFL 10.7-67 def by Werribee 10.12-72

The VFL Tigers went down in a pulsating clash on Saturday afternoon, as Werribee prevailed by five points at Holm Park Recreation Reserve.

In front of a healthy Beaconsfield crowd, the VFL Tigers pushed their western rivals until the final siren, but were unable to get a final key-score to swing the tide in their favour.

Ben Lennon was a star performer with four goals, while Anthony Miles and Corey Ellis were outstanding in the midfield engine against the likes of North Melbourne’s Andrew Swallow.

Nathan Broad had 21 disposals in his return from the long-term injury list, adding six marks and six tackles to his tally for good measure.

Richmond VFL and Development Coach Craig McRae said there were still plenty of positive signs to be taken from the narrow defeat.

“I was rapt with the fight in us, and our desire to win when the game was there in the balance,” McRae said.

“But our turnovers hurt us - we allowed nine goals from turnovers, which we haven’t done all year, and they kicked ten for the game.

“It’ll be an area of focus for us after the bye.”

The VFL Tigers started the first quarter with some stingy defensive efforts, denying Werribee a plethora of attacking opportunities before rebounding and finding Lennon for his first.

Last week’s Sir Doug Nicholls medal recipient Jake Batchelor was continuing his impressive form, finding great assistance from Ryan Garthwaite and the returning Broad.

Lennon hammered home his second for the quarter shortly after Richmond VFL captain Sam Darley nailed his first major for the year, however, a fast-finishing Werribee held the ascendancy at the first break by 10 points.

In a similar vein to the end of the first term, the second started off in scrappy circumstances, with both sides finding it hard to nail clean disposals on a cold afternoon in Melbourne’s east.

Jacob Ballard broke the deadlock with a clever snap from close range, before Jacob Townsend showed class and poise with a calm finish on the run from 40 metres out.

Townsend continued to rally his teammates with immense grit and determination, providing trademark pressure all over the ground and raking in impressive numbers in tackles and clearances.

Werribee managed to bite back courtesy of a goal to swingman Majak Daw, however, Lennon marked spectacularly and booted his third goal on the siren of half-time, much to the delight of both teammates and the Beaconsfield contingent of Tiger supporters.

It was the Tigers of the Werribee variety that came out firing in the third quarter, nailing three consecutive goals before their momentum was halted by Lennon’s fourth, which was elegantly set-up by an ice-cool Tyson Stengle.

Oleg Markov was providing plenty of pace and excitement off half-back, with his run-and-carry vital in rebounding against Werribee’s immense pressure.

Daniel Coffield again showed his supreme intercepting skills as the travellers looked to put the VFL Tigers in their wake, while Hugh Beasley was proving to be a difficult one-on-one match-up for Werribee’s forwards.

With a 14-point deficit to make up at the final break, the VFL Tigers rallied to bring the lead back to within one kick.

However, it would prove to be Werribee’s day, as the visitors hung on by the slimmest of margins.

Mabior Chol produced a brilliant left-footed snap to bring Werribee’s lead to single digits, before Jayden Cass nailed his first goal for the VFL Tigers with a precise effort from a tight angle.

A Werribee goal shortly after stretched the lead back out, however, Ellis was found by Markov in acres of space and buried his close-range effort to again bring the VFL Tigers within a kick of Werribee.

Just as Darley looked to launch a final attack from the back half the siren sounded, with a handful of points the only difference in a thralling battle between two sides.

The VFL Tigers will now have a rest over the next weekend, but return for Round 8 action against Geelong at Punt Road on Saturday, July 17.

The good thing about Miles and Lennon playing well at this level is if we have decided these guys aren't what we need, we may get a decent draft pick for them come years end.
Second rounders perhaps??

And to be honest I would lose a wink of sleep if that happened. Like I've said in the past, if your not going to play them, trade them for someone you will play.
CEllis is another I couldn't care about either if they decided to use him as currency.

We need all 3 dominating for the rest of the year.

Would Lennon be the best over head mark of any genuine forward we have available after Riewoldt? It's a scary thought.

The management of our list has been horrendous. Time for Lennon to get a run of games. Lloyd has had a fair hit without doing much.

Richmond VFL and development coach, Craig McRae's summary of the AFL and VFL-listed players from Saturday’s Round 7 VFL match against Werribee.

AFL LISTED PLAYERS

Anthony Miles

34 disposals, 10 marks, seven tackles, four clearances

Continues his great form at VFL level. Ended up with great numbers in disposals and tackles, and added more uncontested possessions to his game, which shows he’s getting great spread in his game.

Corey Ellis

30 disposals, 12 marks, five tackles, one goal

Probably his best game for the football club, maybe even at both levels. He certainly looked above the level for major parts of the game, and his ball use was a real feature.

Oleg Markov

26 disposals, six marks, two clearances, two tackles

Two games in a row where he’s proven to be above the level. Played off half-back and looked like an AFL player. A pleasing return to form for him.

Jacob Townsend

25 disposals, seven marks, seven clearances, five tackles

Was tough on the inside and very competitive. He had a great percentage of his disposals going inside-50, and is another one playing above the level.

Nathan Broad

21 disposals, six marks, six tackles, one clearance

It was good to see Nathan return from injury after he missed eight weeks through a shoulder injury. Looked like he hadn’t missed a beat with his performance off half-back, providing plenty of run up the ground and making good decisions with ball in hand.

Jake Batchelor

16 disposals, four marks, three tackles, one clearance

Played at half-back, but we shifted him forward after a few injuries to our keys. Tried to get something going in our forward line, but unfortunately didn’t make an impact in that part of the game. Still looks above the level, particularly when he’s a defender.

Ben Lennon

16 disposals, eight marks, four tackles, four goals

Our most effective forward, and was the only one who looked really dangerous in the air. Took some good marks on the day, tackled well, and provided a solid performance. Looks above the level at the moment.

Tyson Stengle

16 disposals, three marks, three tackles

Competed okay, had moments of quality football and then had some quiet patches. He’s playing at the level at the moment, and not far off a breakout game for us. I think he goes into the bye as a young player looking to refresh himself, and it’ll be interesting to see how he goes after that.

Ivan Maric

14 disposals, 21 hitouts, five marks, four clearances

Had to ruck the entire last quarter with Soldo down, and was instrumental in trying to get us over the line and win the game. Really pleased with his performance.

Ryan Garthwaite

Six disposals, three marks, two tackles

Showed glimpses of his marking ability with good numbers in that department. Provided good pressure with his tackling in the defensive half.

Mabior Chol

Five disposals, two marks, two tackles, one goal

Had many opportunities in the aerial contest which he didn’t quite complete. A real challenge for him is to find that consistency of effort.

Todd Elton

Four disposals, two marks, one tackle

Started the game slowly, and didn’t quite bring his A-game. We were hoping for more influence in the air early, which we didn’t get, and unfortunately he injured his shoulder later in the game.

Ivan Soldo

Four disposals, eight hitouts, two marks, one tackle

Played as the second ruckman. Another one who got injured early in the third and didn’t return from there.

vfl watchers do you think Brandon Wood would be worth giving a rookie spot to.
Would definately offer Ballard a spot we do need some big bodied mids and it sounds like both could offer some depth as mids.

Oleg Markov

26 disposals, six marks, two clearances, two tackles

Two games in a row where he’s proven to be above the level. Played off half-back and looked like an AFL player.

Jackstar plz respond

Mrarkrov owns a restaurant. Great bloke.

very good player is Woody, maybe a chance,

I reckon Ballard & Daniel Coffield are AFL ready players

Yep selective quoting
Why ?
Why didn't you add the last sentence
" pleasing return to form "
Been average since round 1 of Season
One game doesn't make a career
If you also read other player comments, there are 4-5 players in the queue ahead of him at the moment
Also just watched tape of game
Chol is so far away from playing AFL it isn't funny
But what would I know
I am just a internet nuff nuff
🤔😂
