The Australian this morning has some comments from the coaches about the new rules (none from the RFC).

Laidley - "They now have little time for a breather or to set up and they will all have to play like midfielders."
Laidley said his initial solution, following several shortened practice matches, was to rotate his players more through the interchange bench and to use more players in a variety of positions.
Thompson - "We're concerned that more big blokes could break down in what is going to be a running man's game now."
I know our coaching staff isn't keen on the new kick-in rule but reading some of these quotes from opposition coaches about the new rules and how they'll affect the game makes you think about how we've recruited for speed over the last two drafts and picked up a number of guys around the 6ft 2' mark. Wallace has mentioned in the past how it's part of his job to study where footy will be heading in the future and keep one step ahead.

nice pick up mt, i remember terry saying that at the season launch last yr also. he is a very smart man.
i know this wont happen but imaging all the coaches got together and signed a pact/agreement that no full back will kickout until the ump finishes waving the flags. i think this would be a gr8 way 4 the clubs and coaches to protest how the afl just change rules without consultation. the says a stuff can play on as a point is kicked. the rule does not say a fb can wait til the ump waves the flag, and if teh umps call play on , the players stay put til the kickout is completed. wishful thinking but i thought it would be a nice way to shove it up the afl

The coaches could have their own pow wow sessions in regards to whatever topics they choose and not tell the AFL about it.
Whats good for the goose i say. hmmmmmmmmm
back to the topic though, I also noticed these comments from other coaches too, espesially laidley's comment on how how all the players will have to start playing like midfielders all around the ground.
that comment made an impression on me like, WOW weve been recruiting like this for the last two years! HA!
great stuff and i hope that things continue to evolve in our favour. If it does it could upset Hawthorns plans as they've injected power KPP with a sprinkling of midfielders on top.... HEHEHEHEEHEHEHEHEHE.

We're not the only ones recruiting like this. Look at the Dogs. They have recruited perfectly for this style of footy. Also the Swans, the Pies, Freo and the Saints. The clubs in the most danger would have to be The Kangaroos, The Hawks, The Bombers and especially the Cats as they are a slow lumbering team with the Big Donut at the helm and players like Ling, Playfair and Kelly may get caught out of position more often than not..

Nice idea X but when a game is to be won and you team is less than a goal down with only a couple of minutes to play especially in a sudden-death final, I can see a coach say stuff the pact we're playing on straight away.
Just on this, Terry mentioned today about how some AFL coaches are thinking about getting their nearest player to hug the kicker-in and give away 50 metres in preference to letting the kicker-in play on and give up a coast-to-coast goal. That way it gives you time to man-up 1-on-1 and get players behind the ball. If that happens then the new rule will quickly become a farce.
I should add Wallace said he wasn't necessarily against the new rules, he just was annoyed with the lack of consultation.
