My PC at home has been giving me the craps for a while now slow incompetant etc ...
Seeing the young fella wants to do graphic design or something arty - I want to get something that will be good for this type of thing.
Also atm when I copy music from CD or try and copy DVD's get jumping and takes forever.
Any help on what I should be looking at in all the technical terms. I can do some of my own research but was wondering if there were any guru's (nerds) lol on here that could help. :cheers

I'm not exactly sure what the latest "numbers" are but I'm guessing Windows XP, 2.0-2.5 GHz Pentium processor, 512 MB of RAM and 80+ GB harddrive. Tiga maybe would know more on the technical side. The latest Apples are pretty impressive but I'm basing that on friends with laptops.
I just use the latest winamp to copy music from CDs and that works fine on my crappy 6 year old Windows 98 computer at home. I allegedly ;) use DVD shrink for DVDs.

Cub,
P4 2.8 to 3.0Ghz are about the Norm these days. I'm not normally one for mass marketers but Dell have some pretty good package deals going at the moment including 19" LCD flat panel screens which would be good for the Arty stuff. I would recommend 1 gig of RAM for programs like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. These programs are the best for creativity but they also cost a bit too. You might find a bargain on ebay though as software has a very low resale value.
The latest CD &DVD burners are pretty quick but the burning software also plays a big part with encoding and decoding data. Especially when you want to backup the DVD's you've purchased ;). Intervideo DVD copy combined with the latest version of anydvd will be reasonably fast but you have to remember that most DVD's run out to almost 4GB per disk so they do take time to backup.

Thanks Tiggy Tiger
I am quick when I make up my mind to do things.
I went for the Dell 1 GB Ram
19" screen
2.8 ghz
250 gb hard drive
Dell seems to have pretty good deals, looks like I was on right track. :thumbsup
