Title: Essendon Quiz - Know your Enemy
Post by: one-eyed on May 03, 2006, 02:54:10 PM
Moi and I saw BB do a similar thing about the Tiges.

1. Which Essendon champion was signed by them just before he was expected to come down to Tigerland and play in a trial match?

2. Which two Essendon players did we draft in 1991?

3. Which player did Tiger Max Oppy tag in the 1943 GF and what was curious about the match-up?

4. Richmond and Essendon have played each other at Punt Road, the MCG and Windy Hill. What 5 other grounds have hosted contests between the two sides?

5. Steven Taubert and Mark Eustice not only played for Richmond and Essendon, but what other team as well?

6. How many premierships did idiot Reynolds coach Essendon to?

7. Name the three Richmond premiership players involved in the Dons' 1985 premiership side?

8. How many Brownlows did Bill Hutchison win?

9. Which Bomber was suspended for 16 weeks for head-butting boundary umpire Graham Carbery?

10. Because of a quirk in the final series that year, the 1924 Essendon premiership side is the only premiership team in VFL/AFL history to do what?

Nup. The venue no longer physically exists.

Red Cliffs, Morwell etc weren't played for 4 points.

Not sure MT.  Stab in the dark.  Oppy was our FF and lined up on Reynolds who was their FB?  That’s gotta be curious.

4. How about the Gabba? -  Nup. Only league games and all grounds are/were in Melbourne.

Don’t know what it’s called, but something about a ground that hasn’t existed for yonks, along the lines of Flemington somewhere, show grounds.  Something like that.  Wasn’t that where Ess used to play before Windy Hill?

Won the premiership after a count back.

Nup. The venue no longer physically exists.

Brunswick St Oval? Was Fitzroy's ground before they moved to the Junction Oval.
The stand burnt down years ago and then the wall around the ground was knocked down. It's a park now rather than a venue.
(After that rant I bet it's not it  8))

 :rollin @ tiga

Waverley Park?

Waverley/VFL/AFL Park was one of them but it's already been given and it still exists (i.e. you can go there).

This VFL ground no longer exists at all and if you went to the spot where it use to be you would most likely be run over by a train entering and exiting Flinders St.

4. Wasn’t that where Ess used to play before Windy Hill?

The correct answer was Essendon's home ground before they moved to Windy Hill. What was it called?

10. Won the premiership after a count back.

Nup. WP was correct to say they lost. But what game did they lose that no other premiership side in VFL/AFL history has lost?

Like WP you're very close tiga. Not quite the answer as they did what you said in 1897.

Clue is to think laterally. What game does every premiership side win each year that Essendon lost in the 1924 round robin finals series. It was against Richmond too.

Nup.

Which match does the premiership team win that no other side does each year? Essendon in 1924 didn't win this match.

There was no GF that year. The answer is obvious when you think about it. Yes it usually is called the Grand Final but put simply in terms of the 176 games per year what is it?

Correct WP  :thumbsup. The Bombers in 1924 were the only premiership side not to win the final game of the year. Bloody cheats, Richmond won that game but Essendon were given the flag on % despite both sides having two wins a piece in the round robin finals series.

Question 2 left to go.
