Title: Changes next week for the Bombers game?
Post by: one-eyed on May 30, 2021, 05:07:50 PM
I think we finally got through a match this year unscathed ( touchwood  :pray ).

Fire away with your changes?

Assuming edwards isn’t fit yet or not allowed to travel then:

Out: Castagna, Hugo
In: Stack, Miller/Astbury

I know, I know, Hugo kicked 2 goals but so did Ross and with the young talls Essendon have I think we need another tall defender.

It would be an absolute disgrace if Rioli is brought in over Ralphsmith.

Please no to both. With 3 ruck options now what is picketts role? Did an admirable job pinch hitting in the ruck given his size but otherwise been poor.

Pickett can play wing, mid, hb and hf no problems. Will come straight back in.
George imo has been our worst small forward this year and needs a spell. Didn't say which Rioli :shh

No all in rehab didn't travel

He is lockdown in Melbourne and unlikely to be allowed to travel to WA

Think Dimka needs to get up to date with border restrictions

Edwards is in Melbourne. Melbourne is deemed medium risk. So you can only enter WA with an exemption and that includes 14 days of quarantine

So not sure how Edwards can play  :-\

**the last 3 days I've become an expert on order restrictions. As it is looking like there is no way we can get to my niece's wedding even if lockdowm ends***

The Tigers flew up the injured Shane Edwards from a locked-down Melbourne on Sunday, giving the silky midfielder every last opportunity to continue his ankle rehab at home, and he is "highly probable" to make his return next week.

Out:

- Castagna (yep I've finally given up on ya mate)
- Caddy (am a fan but the game has passed you)
- Hugo (unlucky due to 2.0 but honestly 7 touches and 0 tackles in a game we dominated possession and won tackles)
In:

- Edwards (more mids = more Bolton forward)
- Pickett (mid/wing. Good footballer, needs a permanent role)
- Stack (if he's ready)
- MRJ (replace cousin as sub, come on in the 3rd for a 'sore' Nank or similar BS excuse)

If Astbury is  fit we play him if not then Miller imo.

Reckon Essendon are pretty tall up forward. Hooker 198/103, Stewart 198/95, Jones 194 ?. Stringer 192/95.

Pickett and Edwards will play for sure. so  the outs would have to be Castagna fmd he just has to go. Caddy still as slow as a glacier and last sorry Hugo but you have not had a lot of the pill time to take away what you have learnt and put it into practice when the vfl starts up.If not Hugo then see ya Bachar.

With no VFL do we take the approach of ensuring a player like Stack / Dow gets game time and that would apply to any other player on the fringe.

Hmm assuming there is no Astbury.Something like this

FB/ Grimes - Miller - Broad
HB/ Short - Balta - Vlastuin

R/ Nankervis - Cotchin - Prestia
C/ Pickett - Bolton  - McIntosh

HF/ Baker - Riewoldt - Edwards
FF/ Aarts - CC-J - Martin

Int/ RC-D - Graham - Chol - Dow/Houli/Ralphsmith/ Caddy/Stack  last spot to one of these blokes

Each to their own but I just don’t get the logic of bringing Pickett straight back in just like I wouldn’t get the logic if they brought Rioli straight back in.

He looks his best as an inside mid but with our whole midfield brigade back I can’t see him getting any game time there. As an outside player either at half back or wing he just constantly misses targets by both hand and foot.

Team Tips: Richmond

No injuries out of Sunday’s win over Adelaide to worry about, thankfully, with Daniel Rioli being the unused medical sub. Instead it’s about squeezing players into the 22, with Shane Edwards joining the team in Sydney and set to be named for Dreamtime in the West. Including Callum Coleman-Jones and Mabior Chol worked a treat against Adelaide, as they ably assisted Toby Nankervis in Tom Lynch’s absence, but is that too tall of a group against the Bombers’ 2017 Richmond-like mosquito fleet? Lynch won’t be back for a little while.

Tom Browne on Ch 7 arvo news just said Edwards didn't train with the main group today. So there's a question whether Sheds is over that ankle injury.

Browne also added that Edwards drove up to Sydney from Melbourne.

In the Mix: Round 11

Sarah Black
afl.com.au
1 June 2021

RICHMOND

Shane Edwards is in line to play his first game in around a month after recuperating from an ankle injury, while at this stage it is unclear if David Astbury will be available after he was a late withdrawal from the round 11 squad with Achilles soreness. Marlion Pickett is also free to play after serving his one-match ban for striking, but inclusion Josh Caddy played well enough to hold his spot. Someone will be very unlucky to make way for Edwards: Jason Castagna was quiet in front of goal but recorded 22 pressure acts, while youngster Hugo Ralphsmith kicked two majors from his seven touches.

Verdict: A very unfortunate Ralphsmith for Edwards.

Tom Browne now added that Edwards is being isolated from the rest of the team as he's been tested since driving up and is awaiting the test result. The Club is still optimistic Sheds will be able to fly to Perth and play this week.

Tigers regain Edwards

Anna Harrington

Richmond will welcome back triple-premiership gun Shane Edwards for their AFL clash with Essendon but face a big decision on their ruck-forward balance.

Edwards missed the past three games with an ankle injury but coach Damien Hardwick confirmed he will travel from Sydney to Perth for Saturday's Dreamtime game, which will be held at Optus Stadium for the first time amid Melbourne's coronavirus outbreak.

That news is counterbalanced by losing Toby Nankervis for several weeks after the triple-premiership ruckman suffered a PCL strain against Adelaide.

Ivan Soldo is out for the season as he recovers from an ACL injury - meaning the Tigers will need to turn to pinch-hitters or hand a debut to first-year ruck Samson Ryan.

Callum Coleman-Jones can play in the ruck but booted four goals against Adelaide and will be needed in attack amid Tom Lynch's absence.

Mabior Chol kicked two goals and had nine hitouts against the Crows - his first game of the season - and could play more ruck minutes, while Marlion Pickett will return from suspension and has done some pinch-hitting ruck work.

"We've got a couple of options - it's whether we go smaller in the ruck," Hardwick said.

"We're really excited by a young tall that we've got in Samson Ryan that will maybe get an opportunity as well."

Ralphsmith as the sub.
