Richmond is investigating whether Dion Prestia broke the league’s strict Covid-19 protocols on Saturday night.
A screenshot of an Instagram story from Saturday night appears to show the Tigers midfielder, who played on Friday against GWS, out with friends in Richmond.
Prestia’s group of friends appeared to be involved in a pub crawl, based on the caption on the post, actions which were heavily criticised by Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton on Monday.
The AFL declined to comment, while the AFL Players’ Association is aware of the photo.
In a memo sent to clubs on August 3, the AFL made it clear what staff and players were not permitted to do under the league’s supplementary protocols.
It read: “When not at training or at matches, players and staff must avoid the following:
-Shopping centres, where the entrance to shop cannot be entered other than through a communal centre access point.
-Cinemas
-Mass events of 1000 or more people
-And any location where it is not possible to maintain social distancing.”
“We’ve seen some really disappointing behaviour, we’ve seen some selfish behaviour, and some absolutely outrageous behaviour,” Patton said.
“Every one of these things is just totally unacceptable and everybody knows they’re doing the wrong thing.
“We’ve seen so many different breaches, it’s just ridiculous and it has to stop.”
It’s understood the question hanging over Prestia’s head is whether he left home for the right reason and whether he was social distancing.

7NEWS can reveal Richmond and league officials are looking into a photo of Dion Prestia and whether he attended the Richmond ‘pub crawl’ on Saturday night.
The Instagram story - captioned ‘crawling from pub to pub’ - showed Prestia in a photo with friends.
Prestia’s manager Marty Pask told 7NEWS there was no breach of any protocols.
Pask said the footballer was within 5km of his home, had collected take-away and had just posed for the picture with his housemates.
7NEWS is not suggesting Prestia breached Victoria’s COVID-19 laws in lockdown, only that the AFL is looking into the photo.
AFL players are prohibited from attending venues where they cannot socially distance - such as supermarkets and shopping centres - as part of strict protocols to protect the competition.

Prestia simply walked past and stood well away from the crowd as a precaution as he spoke to a friend. He and Lani moved on very quickly. The crowd was no different to the Cafe crowds of a morning. The only difference was alcohol. To me he did nothing wrong. I was there for a short period while collecting takeaway nearby. Massive overreaction from supporters calling for him to be sacked. Deadset ridiculous..

Obviously the photo is a staged pick taking the pee.
How can there be a pub crawl when pubs are closed and won’t let you in?
Since when do pubs sell tiny bottles of whatever that drink is?
Who’s complaining? Is that bozo Remington decided to stalk us again?

i love it how the focus is on richmond. Can tell you i picked up pizza sat night from a certain suburb starting with H, that had stuff lining up and down the street doing exactly the same thing.
In fact there were about 4 bars within close proximity, and loads of people out on the street doing the same thing :shh
I have no issue with it whatsoever being outdoors as you see similar scenes during the day, and also at bunnings.

Thank goodness he's not in Perth ;D

The AFL and Richmond are expected to clear Dion Prestia of any wrongdoing after he was pictured out in Richmond on Saturday night.
The club and league did not open a formal investigation, but sought more details on whether Prestia broke the league’s strict Covid-19 protocols.
The AFL and AFL Players’ Association declined to comment, but it’s understood the premiership on-baller will have no case to answer.
