Wet day at Sandy.
We haven't go it out of defence yet.
Poor defending gives them a crumbing goal.
0 - 6
-
Centre clearance by RCD finally allows us to get it forward where Lefau marks 35 out. Misses.
1 - 6
Strong right to left breeze at the end we're kicking.
-
Good tackle by Brown by the boundary wins the free 45 out. Puts it to the square but it's rushed.
2 - 6
-
Didn't defend the corridor at that wing stoppage and Sandy get it forward for goal.
They've been clean in possession where we've been sloppy and fumbled (aside from Tom Brown).
2 - 12
-
Biggie intercept mark on the wing. Goes long and Jorgensen is pushed out of the contest. Misses.
3 - 12
-
Poor kick by a Sandy defender kicks it straight to Street 50 out. He plays, darts around a Sandy player and nails a dead eye shot on the run for goal :gotigers.
Good captain's goal.
Rich 1.3-9
Sandy 2.0-12
-
Miller caught HTB in defence. Goal to Sandy.
9 - 18
-
Martyn is the worst player we've had on our list since Fatty Farmer and Ty Zantuck
-
Samson really has gone backwards. Jumped early nowhere near the ball at the centre bounce and Sandy get the centre clearance. Another goal to them.
9 - 24
-
Maurice two efforts forces the OOTF kick by the Sandy defender.
Mansell across to Hicks at 50. Goes to the hot spot and Sonsie crumbs a goal :gotigers
Rich 2.3-15
Sandy 4.0-24
-
Another centre clearance to Sandy :facepalm. Lucky their set shot is sprayed OOTF. Siren.
Quarter time
Richmond 2.3-15
Sandringham 4.0-24
Goals: Sonsie, Street.
-
Samson really has gone backwards. Jumped early nowhere near the ball at the centre bounce and Sandy get the centre clearance. Another goal to them.
9 - 24
Samson won't make it. He is too unco and slow
-
Liking Maurice Jnr, Brown and Sonsie at the moment. Banks was good last week. We got some good kids here boys. Future looks ok I reckon.
-
Need to win it at the source and even up the centre clearances. We are always starting attacks from defence, losing our structure forward of the ball and kicking it to where they have their spare.
Steve Morris praised Sonsie's game so far (9 possies - four ahead of any other Tiger).
-
Rushed point to us. Olden collided with the post but is ok.
16 - 24
-
Free to Sandy but no one knows what it's for? ::) Gifts them a goal.
16 - 30
-
Somethings never change. Umpires are dumb campaigners.
The only stuffwit that thought that was a free kick is the halfwit geek wearing yellow
-
Beaten in the contests at HF and then poor defending. Another goal to them.
16 - 36
-
We're trying to play dry weather footy in the wet :facepalm :banghead.
Sandy playing wet weather footy - win the ball at the source, gain territory and play in front.
-
Clarke with almost a stuff goal from the pocket. Hits the post.
17 - 37
-
Another goal to them.
17 - 44
-
Our VFL midfield is poo also.
Sonsie can get the ball but is a liability at stoppages. Just spectates.
-
Clever kick off the side of the boot by Hicks to Bartlett. Set shot from 40. Stabs at it and misses.
18 - 44
-
Clever kick off the side of the boot by Hicks to Bartlett. Set shot from 40. Stabs at it and misses.
18 - 44
He didn't miss it fell 10m short. Woeful effort.
-
Free downfield for an off the ball incident. RCD from 40 doesn't make the distance. Rushed through.
Sandy almost gift a chance from the grubber kick-in but we can't take it.
Half-time
Richmond 2.3 2.7-19
Sandringham 4.0 7.2-44
We've been given a lesson in wet weather footy today. Stats may show equal scoring shots and inside 50s but we're playing dumb in the wet whereas Sandy are making the most of the conditions.
-
Clever kick off the side of the boot by Hicks to Bartlett. Set shot from 40. Stabs at it and misses.

Morris has got to get us to structure up to play wet weather footy. It's no point set up for switch of plays across the ground when no one is going to try it in the wet. Get numbers thin side where the ball and contests are. Protect the defensive side, even numbers at the contest and even numbers forward of the play so Sandy doesn't have always have a spare to intercept uncontested. You need to win the territory battle in the wet. Main thing is tell our bloody forwards to play in front FFS! It's a heavy wet ball so kicks are going to drop short.
-
Stack not playing today due to covid protocols.
-
Quick kick forward from the stoppage by RCD and Lefau marks. Misses.
20 - 44
-
Sonsie kicks forward and Cumberland marks on the 50 by the boundary. Goes in board to a contest. Martyn gets the free. But it's another missed shot :scream.
21 - 44
-
Good tackle by Sonsie in the centre wins the turnover. It's gets to Clarke at HF but he's too slow moving it on as our forwards weren't moving. Wasted chances and it's another rushed behind :banghead.
22 - 44
-
6 inside 50s for 3 points and they go forward once for a goal :banghead.
22 - 50
-
Goal to them. Too easy.
-
Get Sonsie in the ones. I've seen enough.
When is Colina ever going to make an appearance?
-
Sonsie takes the advantage at the throw-in and hits up Cumberland 35 out. Finally we kick one straight :gotigers.
Rich 3.10-28
Sandy 8.2-50
-
When is Colina ever going to make an appearance?
He's flying down now the basketball for Hawaii Uni has finished according to the Hun.
-
Samson lets the ball go through his hands when it was pretty much an uncontested marking chance. Then Lefau fumbles which keeps the ball in Sandy's forward line and they get a easy goal :banghead.
28 - 56
-
When is Colina ever going to make an appearance?
He's flying down now the basketball for Hawaii Uni has finished according to the Hun.
Didn't that finish months ago?
-
I know it's wet but our skill level today has been woeful. Twice then two kicks to free teammates miss the target (Mansell & Hicks).
-
Another goal to Sandy.
28 - 63

Just going by what the paper said. They did say last year that he wouldn't be returning to us until the end of March/April.
-
Really struggling with the wet weather.
Undisciplined tackling results in 2 goals.
Game over.
-
Another tackle lingering and another free. That's 3 in 10mins.

Only positive today is Sonsie.
-
Really struggling with the wet weather.
Undisciplined tackling results in 2 goals.
Game over.
We really have played dumb footy in the wet today. It's frustrating to watch. We've been our own worst enemy.

RCD gets his 10th possession courtesy of a down field free Kicks from inside 50 but doesn't make the distance.
At least he is finding more of the ball
He’s rubbish. Just doesn’t get involved in the contest was playing in number 24 and had his pants pulled down
Just watched the whole 3rd quarter and he didn’t touch it.
Sonsie atleast looks like he wants the footy.
Mansell is a competitive player that hates losing contests.

Worst decision I've ever seen on a football field to start the last quarter. Clearly holding the ball but pays in the back.
-
Moronic ump. That was HTB you idiot! :thumbsdown
Everyone runs forward our way thinking it's our free and there's a free Sandy forward left behind who ends up with the ball and goals :banghead.
28 - 70
-
Samson :facepalm.
-
A clearance from RCD :clapping
-
Samson again :facepalm. Mind you no one else was there too to spoil. Everyone ballwatching.
28 - 76
-
Biggie looking alright here
-
RCD has 4th most possessions. Others alot worse.
-
Poor throw-in (should have been recalled) and Martyn forgot the rule that you can't touch the ball unless you're the nominated ruckman.
Another gifted goal to Sandy.
28 - 82
-
RCD has 4th most possessions. Others alot worse.
Rubbish player. Hes playing midfield and can’t find the footy. :help
-
Clarke limping off after his legs got twisted in the tackle.
The incident wouldn't have happened if we could hit a target but hand and foot today.
-
Cumberland shot goes across the face and lands in Ryan's grasp. Yeah he did something right and kicked the goal :gotigers.
Rich 4.10-34
Sandy 13.4-82
-
50m to Martyn. Goal :gotigers

VFL Tigers fight and scrap, but go down to Zebras
By Brenton Mann
Richmond Media
4 March 2022
A classic Sandringham day greeted Richmond VFL as it made the trip South to Trevor Barker Beach Oval to face a much-vaunted Zebras’ outfit.
The drizzly conditions couldn’t be starker than what the Tigers faced the week previous against Southport, however, the thirst for the contest and Richmond’s hunt carried over from Round 1.
The Tigers fought and scrapped against a Sandringham side that had the game on their terms for the majority of the day, going down by 54 points.
Richmond managed to match Sandringham for scoring shots for the first three quarters, with a five-goal final term by the Zebras seeing the final score read, 15.4 (94) to 5.10 (40).
The Zebras cashed in early up forward, slotting two majors before Tigers’ captain, Lachlan Street stood tall once again when his side needed him most.
With the Tigers toiling away without nourishment on the scoreboard, Street read a skewed Sandringham kick, plucked the intercept mark, crossed the paint of 50 and saluted as soon as the soggy Sherrin left his boot.
The Zebras answered Street’s goal soon after, then doubled down before Tyler Sonsie got the attending Tiger Army’s hands out of their pockets with a classic crumbing goal.
The wintery conditions seemed to suit Sonsie’s natural football traits, with the first-year midfielder handling the soapy ball as it was bone dry.
Sonsie tracked a high-ball inside 50, hit the drop-zone at speed, gathered and snapped on his left in a single motion, exciting the damp Richmond attendees.
The goal was kicked on the stroke of quarter-time, which saw Sandringham lead by nine points.
There’s a growing buzz about Sonsie, who knocks up winning the ball and using it with silk and precision.
The Zebras were faultless in front of goal, kicking six without a blemish, finishing the first half with seven majors and a 25-point lead at halftime.
Richmond’s effort and intensity around the contest and its want to spread and create from congestion couldn’t be faulted, however they found it tough going to gain the reward.
Bigoa Nyuon followed on from his staunch display in Round 1, holding down a key defensive post alongside Ben Miller who returned from a successful outing at AFL level.
Nyuon and VFL defender, Jackson Davies led with fists of defiance, however, at times the Zebras were too slick in attack.
Riley Collier-Dawkins, alongside Sonsie, utilised his hulking frame around the contest, feeding the ball to Richmond’s runners on the outside and surging the ball forward when his options dried up.
The Tigers shared the same amount of scoring shots (7.2 to 2.7) at halftime as their hosts, with avenues to goal harder to come by than those of Sandringham.
It was a similar story in the third term, with the Zebras adding three goals to their tally, as Noah Cumberland rewarded Tyler Sonsie for his neat pass, with Cumberland’s set-shot sailing through for the Tigers’ only goal first goal since quarter-time.
Rhyan Mansell’s iron will to thwart Sandringham’s attacking forays and then repel with venom shone brightest in the third term, as he ran himself ragged in an attempt to swing the momentum Richmond’s way.
Nyuon produced a couple of ball-busting spoils, one nearly launching the ball over the banksias onto the sand of Sandringham beach.
Will Martyn had a tough pre-season, battling glandular fever but ground his way back into form in the final term.
Martyn was redeployed down back, where, especially in the last quarter, he started to exude the traits that saw him win the 2021 Guinane Medal as Richmond VFL’s best and fairest.
It was a challenging day for the Tigers, however, that thirst for the contest was evident until the final siren.
A trait that they’ll need to build on during the week to take into their Round 3 clash against Footscray.

Yeah I know. On another site there was a critique on how few possessions he got. And then possessions, tackles and clearances all go up. To levels that he get's critiqued that he doesn't reach. I.e. RCD doesn't even get 20 possies. Just some fun.

Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in Sunday's Round 2 match against Sandringham.
Tyler Sonsie (34 disposals, 10 clearances, seven tackles, eight rebound-50s, two score-assists, one goal)
"Had huge clearance and contested ball numbers. It was also pleasing to see him really improve his defensive intent with seven tackles, and he had a classy finish in front of goal."
Riley Collier-Dawkins (24 disposals, six tackles, six clearances)
"Really high contested possessions and for the second week in a row, stepped in to tackle with intent. He's continuing his good form."
Rhyan Mansell (23 disposals, nine marks, five inside-50s)
"Attacked the contest with ferocity all day. He worked hard and found plenty of the footy as well."
Will Martyn (19 disposals, seven marks, one goal)
"I really liked Will's game. His attitude was outstanding and has been for a number of weeks as he learns a new role. But he also went in and had an impact in the middle when he got his chance."
Judson Clarke (18 disposals, six inside-50s, five clearances)
"Found plenty of the footy. He probably was not quite as clean as he would like, but he continues to take steps forward."
Sam Banks (13 disposals, four clearances)
"Still on limited minutes. He probably he had less of an impact this week but he's still taking steps forward."
Noah Cumberland (13 disposals, five tackles, one goal)
"We tried him up and around the footy a little bit more, and he probably had a quieter day. It was a good day for him to continue learning different aspects of his game."
Samson Ryan (12 disposals, 36 hit-outs, four marks, one goal)
"Battled really hard all day against an experienced ruckman. He had 36 hit-outs, took a strong overhead mark and finished in front of goals. He's progressing really nicely."
Tom Brown (12 disposals, three marks, three inside-50s)
"He showed glimpses of his class on the weekend, but probably let himself down a little bit with his positioning and contest work which is a real focus for him."
Bigoa Nyuon (11 disposals, six marks, four rebound-50s)
"He had a great day with some really impactful spoils, clearing the first layer. He battled hard down back under serious pressure and it was a strong outing for him."
Ben Miller (nine disposals, five marks, three rebound-50s)
"Was a little bit quieter on the weekend. He didn't have much of an offensive input, but we saw what he can do the previous week at AFL level."
Maurice Rioli (six disposals, three inside-50s, two clearances)
"A lot quieter than he was in previous weeks. He received a fair bit of attention and struggled to work his way into the game."
