Title: Changes for next week against the Hawks?
Post by: one-eyed on May 07, 2022, 06:08:23 PM
Looks like we got through unscathed (touchwood) :pray.

Prestia and Vlastuin available.

Fire away with your changes?

In: Vlastuin, Prestia

Out: Mansell (suspended or unlucky omission), Castagna

Playing 2 rucks against inexperienced ones has worked well for us this season so would keep that going against the hawks.

My thoughts exactly.

George has to go bloody hell.

Soldo really annoys me. I know he gives nank a chop out but he’s just so useless. Taking tacklers on.. poor disposals.. clunky and clumsy. Just not a footy player.

Happy if we go with this.

I see what you mean but we really need that chop out for Nank. Without Soldo he gets smashed physically every week.

Also think Soldo is working into confidence after his knee.

Wouldn't drop him yet but if we had Chol or CCJ I'd be playing them instead.

Mansell, Castagna, Soldo - out
Vlastuin, Prestia, Sonsie - In

Im of the belief we need to find 3 or 4 youngsters before the pointy end of the season arrives. Gibcus 1, Maurice 2,
We need 2 of Sonsie, Banks, Brown or Clarke to push through and put pressure on for spots.

I know Soldo give Nank a chop out but he is just a roadblock for our movement toward. He either fumbles or turns it over  when he gets it on the wing.

Have to agree he is not a footballer.

I didn’t see the game but what was with Soldo? Has the injury and long time since 2019 (when he was actually fairly decent) resulted in his drop off?

I’ve never really rated him tbh. His sole purpose is to help nank out. Anything else is a bonus, right ?
But he just seems so unaware. Maybe I’m just picking on him but he just really frustrates me. Basically a Castagna of a ruckman if you will.

But if we went into a final with 4 first year players you would be the first to wonder what was going through our selectors heads.
I'm generally with your direction, but I think 4 draftees are too many to take into a final.
Maurice & Gibby are walk up starts to make the side though ...    :thumbsup

We just need to develop them enough that if we have to use them we can. Anything can happen we have to have 28 or 29 players ready to go at finals time. I see a lot of potentual in Banks. I think he'll surprise a few. I think our draft last year looks outstanding.

100% agree coming back from knee and he was coming along nicely before that people way to critical on him.

I’m watching the replay now. People are being way too harsh on Soldo. He did his job yesterday.

Prestia, Vlaustin should come in. Would like to get Stack into the side and a younger player like Dow or Cumberland. Perhaps rest Edwards and drop George, Soldo and Mansell.

I’m not sure why George gets a game ahead of Cumberland, just doesn’t do enough these days.He used to tackle and run once upon a time. It seems like he has lost form for a couple of years . I know has a role but he was last on the possession list again which would be ok if he brought the run down tackle game back. He had 1 tackle.

Also have Dow and Ralphsmith fit again don't we?

Out:
Mansell (susp 1 week maybe)
Castagna (omit)
Edwards (managed)

In:
Prestia
Vlastuin
Dow

Ralph, Stack or RCD the sub.

I agree with this.
But apparently he’s doing something the coaches like but most of us have no clue what that is. :help

He just butchers the ball by foot and I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of his hand-passes ever actually hit a teammates chest it’s either at their feet or too high or behind them etc.  :rollin

Ralphy would come back through the 2s.
Prestia & Vlastuin come in as automatics.
Stack has got to play a full game but 2s for him.  RCD same.
Mansell comes out for Vlas.
Castagna come out for Prestia
Only McIntosh or Soldo would go out if others come in.

I’m watching the replay now. People are being way too harsh on Soldo. He did his job yesterday.

Yeah he was ok in parts but the second half was absolutely terrible, the kick into the mark and about half dozen really poor mistakes will cost us games.

He's not the answer, better off playing Balta second ruck and utility and having Tarrant in the team or Miller

Playing Balta 2nd ruck robs the backline too much

Since he's gone back there we've looked so much better defensively it's not funny

I think he'll be fine with a few more games in him. He's played how many 4-5 this year since being injured at the end of 2020? That's 18m out of the top level for a big bloke.

He will be fine. Even if he spuds it up here and there I really think it allows Nank to play better and a more versatile role.

When Soldo was out Nank was getting smashed, head bandaged and bleeding and limping around etc. With Soldo there he is fresh.

Team tips:
Richmond won’t have Rhyan Mansell for the clash with Hawthorn after he was hit with a one-match ban. Nick Vlastuin and Dion Prestia should both return from illness, and the former likely would’ve come in for Mansell regardless. There’s plenty of other players putting their hand up for selection, with Jake Aarts, Matt Parker and Thomson Dow impressing in the VFL. But the Tigers are coming off arguably their biggest win of the season, so spots in the 22 are tight. Either Kamdyn McIntosh, Jason Castagna or Marlion Pickett might be the other player to make way for Prestia.

The Tigers are close to being full strength. Nick Vlastuin, Dion Prestia and Riley Collier-Dawkins look set to be declared fit after recent bouts of illness, while Hugo Ralphsmith is right to go after three weeks with a rib injury. Rhyan Mansell will miss through suspension in a straight swap for Vlastuin. Given Jayden Short's strong form in the middle and the tight backline, it's incredibly difficult to pick which midfielder will make way for Prestia – Marlion Pickett had 13 touches but five clearances. This week's opponent, Hawthorn, is currently only playing one ruck, opening the door for Richmond to do the same and omitting Ivan Soldo.

Verdict: Vlastuin and Prestia for Mansell and Pickett

Their two first choice ruckmen are injured Reeves and McEvoy. I could understand if they were fit and playing but they arent.
Nankervis is first picked every week so if Soldo plays he needs to give a bit more than just a few hit outs. Atm thats about all we are really getting from Soldo. Imo this week there is not a need to play him horses for courses as they say.

Unlike most id like us to play Balta fwd and second ruck.

Think they will go with the following

Scrimshaw - Hartigan/DG-B - Hardwick
Sicily - Frost - Day

Impey - O'Meara - Nash
Lynch - Newcombe - Mitchell

Bruest - Koschitzke - Wingard
Gunston - Lewis - Moore

Shiels - Worpel - Ward - Maguiness - Morrison - McDonald.

Tiger cub to miss but star duo set to return

Josh Gibcus enters Health and Safety protocols as Dion Prestia and Nick Vlastuin put their hands up

By Josh Gabelich

RICHMOND young gun Josh Gibcus will miss Saturday's game against Hawthorn after entering the AFL's health and safety protocols.

The Tigers are expected to regain Dion Prestia and Nick Vlastuin this weekend after the star pair missed last Saturday's dazzling win over Collingwood at the MCG due to illness.

Brownlow Medallist Dustin Martin has trained strongly this week after making a smooth return to the game in round eight, banking extra conditioning sessions at Punt Road as he looks to build his tank up after taking personal leave.

Off-season acquisition Robbie Tarrant is no guarantee to replace Gibcus in Richmond's back six, despite being available for selection after playing against Port Melbourne in the VFL last weekend.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said the 33-year-old is struggling with a lingering hip issue but is in contention to face the Hawks, along with untried rookie Bigoa Nyuon, who has been pressing for a debut in recent weeks.

"Robbie Tarrant will certainly put his hand up. We're also pleased with how 'Biggy' Nyuon is going as well. We'll look at both of those two boys today," Hardwick told reporters on Thursday.

"Robbie has a bit of a hip complaint that he's been nursing. He's an experienced campaigner and knows how to play the game. We'll have a look at both those boys."
