Title: Cubs rush to Tiger
Post by: Moi on May 24, 2006, 01:38:28 PM
WHAT'S a birthday celebration without a cake, lots of candles and a very special guest?

Richmond forward and Very Special Kids supporter Nathan Brown received a warm welcome at the 10th birthday celebrations of the charity's hospice this week.

Freya, 5, and Finn, 6, were there to help the Tiger blow out the candles.

The Very Special Kids hospice is a respite centre that cares for children who are seriously ill or terminal.

Children such as Freya, who has severe brain damage and needs 24-hour support, stay at the hospice while their parents have a much-deserved break.

Freya's mum Lyn said the hospice was a godsend. "I think the hospice is very necessary and I really appreciate it," she said.

It is staffed by nurses and volunteer carers and can look after eight children at a time.

But Very Special Kids relies heavily on public donations to help pay $1.3 million in annual running costs.

This week, the charity launched its Very Special Kids' House Appeal and is calling on Victorians for support.
