Ouch
-
Sydney 2016 anyone
-
Likely be a dead rubber for port by the time the game starts. Away against a limping pies prob better than against the lions at the Gabba.
-
Sydney 2016 anyone
Hope not Mat, I'm heading over
Booked when we were still a show and thought it might be Cotch and Jack's last game
-
Sydney 2016 anyone
If it means Nank or Grimes punches Dow or Ralphsmith for a soft effort like Cotchin did Elton it'll amost be worth it... :shh
-
We beat Port. We finish 10th which would mean we have up pick 11 for Hopper. North will get band 1 comp for McKay and Essendon will get the same for Parish.

Our pick (or former pick) will also slide 1-2 places with the suns academy bid matching.

Port Adelaide vs Richmond Preview
Andrew Slevison
SEN
24 August 2023
Port Adelaide and Richmond enter this Sunday fixture at very different stages of their respective seasons.
The Power are intent on pulling off a top-two finish to secure a home final and to do that they must win, and hope St Kilda defeats Brisbane.
The Tigers are in a different boat in that they’re playing their final game of 2023 after saying goodbye to Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt last weekend.
Will there be two different mindsets out on the Adelaide Oval?
Zak Butters was key in Port’s hard-fought win over Fremantle last week, racking up 31 disposals. The midfielder was one of his side’s best when these two teams last met in Round 11 when the Power won by 10 points.
While they are back in winning form, Ken Hinkley’s side has not had a key forward kick more than three goals since Jeremy Finlayson booted four in Round 14. Do they need their talls, including Todd Marshall, to step up? It could happen here as the Tigers have conceded four or more to an opposing key forward in each of their last five games, including two bags of six to Max King and Nick Larkey.
Will this be Andrew McQualter’s final game as Richmond coach? He is on the club’s shortlist but no decision has yet been made on who replaces Damien Hardwick.
The Tigers have a decent record against Port at the Adelaide Oval, winning five of 10 since 2014, including two of the last three meetings at the venue.
But the Power have a little more to play for this time and should run out winners to tune up for their finals campaign.
Tip: Port Adelaide by 20 points.

Terrible time for a football match. A real dead rubber for us. If we go in with the wrong mentality at real risk of a thrashing. Hope I am wrong. Also a real danger will be flat after last week's game.
-
I know that this is being very cynical and negative but why would we pick squads for this dead rubber match. Just announce the side and be done with it for crikey sake....
-
Sydney 2016 anyone
Yep, fearing a repeat of that game :help and we'll phone it in like Essendon did last night. Nothing to play for in the last game of the season dead rubber = bruise free footy not wanting to get injured. It will also depend on whether Port will still have 2nd spot to play for (they'll know the Brisbane game result by Sunday), or if they care about who they play away in a QF by finishing 3rd (vs Bris) or 4th (vs Coll).

THE CERTAINTIES FOR ROUND 24
Andrew Slevison
SEN
26 August 2023
Port Adelaide versus Richmond
Martin and Bolton to combine for 35+ disposals, 7+ inside 50s and 2+ goals
Dustin Martin and Shai Bolton were devastating in last weekend’s win over North Melbourne.
The Tigers pair combined for 56 disposals, 15 inside 50s and seven goals.
Martin averages 23.1 disposals, 4.9 inside 50s and 1.3 goals per game in 2023. Bolton averages 22.1, 5.6 and 0.9 in those three categories this season.
With the form they’re currently in, we’re with the talismanic duo to combine for 35 or more disposals, seven or more inside 50s and two or more goals.
Finlayson and Marshall to combine for 4+ goals
Port Adelaide’s key forwards haven’t quite been in the scoring form they were earlier this campaign.
Jeremy Finlayson, while kicking 38 goals for the season, hasn’t returned more than four goals in a game since Round 14.
Todd Marshall, who has booted 32 in 2023, hasn’t kicked more than three since Round 12.
Their recent output hasn’t set the world on fire but Richmond’s defence has been leaking goals to key forwards in recent times - Nick Larkey 6, Max King 6, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan 5, Harrison Petty 6, Jacob Van Rooyen 4 and Mitch Lewis 4.
That suggests either Finlayson and Marshall could get off the leash, but for safety’s sake, we’ll combine them for four or more goals rather than relying on one to deliver.

Port Adelaide vs Richmond picks and predictions
The Tigers are testing out some new players while Port are looking to win big for some finals momentum.
Liam McAllion
CodeBet
August 26, 2023
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING AT
* Port Adelaide have won 19 of their last 20 home matches during the day.
* Richmond has failed to cover the line in their last six games.
* Richmond have lost their last four matches against top eight sides by 25+ points.
THE MATCH-UP
Port looked to be slipping out of the top four a month ago, but have had some strong players return from injury and have won comfortably in their last two matches, looking to take some momentum into finals.
Richmond’s only win in their last four was against bottom of the league North and are going into this matchup without Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt due to retirement, amongst other changes.
The Tigers come into this matchup with two debutants, multiple VFL players and no key forwards, while the Power still have a strong defence led by Aliir Aliir who will keep this low scoring.
Richmond having multiple premiership defenders and Port have players returning, which means this game could go under the total points line, as have five of the last six meetings.
PORT’S BULLISH ATTACK
Connor Rozee has arguably become the Power’s most pivotal player, as his consistency has kept them in the top four, being strong in all facets of the game.
Usually a favourite for 25+ disposals and a goal, Rozee hasn’t kicked a goal in the last four games, but with a one sided match predicted, the ball should be in Port’s forward half a lot and we should see the young midfielders speed and long kicking ability on display for a snag once again.
Sam Powell-Pepper has settled in perfectly to his permanent forward role, kicking a career high 27 goals this year and 2+ in seven matches.
The human wrecking ball seems to squash any opponent that come near him with a signature stiff arm and will be able to use his speed to dance around a tall Richmond defence.
RELIABLE TIGERS
The old bear in the square tactic isn’t used often in modern footy, but naming Dustin Martin at full forward seems like that is the plan for the Tigers.
Building into the season nicely, the champion hasn’t lost it with 31 disposals and three goals last week and 11 goals in his last five games. Dusty will want to finish the season strongly and will be eyeing off the goals from all angles here.
Daniel Rioli can hold his head high in a tough season for Richmond, backing up a strong year off half back last season to average 21 disposals in 2023 and be their driving force in attack.
The dashing half back should see plenty of the ball in defence through dominance in midfield from the Power and with his ability to take intercepts and kick outs, he should build past the 20 disposal mark once again.
THE PICK
With multiple debutants, VFL players and no natural key forwards, this is a tough ask for the Tigers who are up against a strong top four Port Adelaide team.
Port won this matchup earlier in the season and Richmond have failed to cover the line in their last six matches.
The young, star filled midfield of the Power will take over here, helping to boost their confidence before a huge finals campaign.

-
Wonder if Port feel like they don't have anything to play for today either now that they can't finish top 2? Should be a pretty open game then if both sets of players want to avoid injury.
-
If we lose by less than 10 goals, its a win.
-
NO LATE CHANGES
SUBSTITUTES
Port Adelaide: Dylan Williams
Richmond: Rhyan Mansell

If we lose by less than 10 goals, its a win.
That’s the attitude of a loser.
-
100m penalty resulting in a goal. We would be the only team to do this.
-
Well done umps you got them the goal you wanted them to have :clapping
-
Dumb by Shai but just plain stupid by Daniel
Gifts Port a F50 entry and subsequently a goal
Rich 16
Port 13
-
100m penalty resulting in a goal. We would be the only team to do this.
Silly statement
Happened last week on the GC ::)
-
Just stuff off Grimes u useless prick
-
Youngsters have started well. Same stuff from Maurice, most unclean player since Castagna
-
I hope grimes retires in the off season
-
How’s the free kick being paid 5minutes later.
I’m hoping grimes can take some time off over pre-season and just do a hard reset because as it stands I don’t think he’s best 23.
-
FMD Grimes is useless
-
I hope grimes retires in the off season
He won't
Still scratch my head at the contract extension after what was it ? Round 5 or 6
But I hope he steps aside as captain. Been terrible since he became co-captain
-
Might have just seen why Dow has spent a fair bit of time in the 2s. Can't pick and choose when you chase and pressure.
-
That was embarrassing Thomson Dow
Gifts Port an inside 50 due to refusing to chase
-
Really poor by Dow then. Gave up on the chase.
29 - 34
-
Despite a few things
Really enjoying this game
Kids looking good
-
Short finds Bolton 45 out. Gets too close to the man on the mark and misses.
30 - 34
-
If anyone had any doubt that Tom Dow deserved another chance at AFL, rewatch Q2 with 16:30 left.
His career is on the line. Nank intercepted the mark and Dow called for a handball recieve and then bombed to an uncontested Port mark. Shocking kick. Then ball cam eback into middle instantly, had a moment to redeem and chase down Butters yet he jogged behind him for about 30m expecting him to kick is and Butter just kept running.
No desire in what may be your last ever game, no desire to redeem a mistake. That is easy motivation to put in max effort. That was a choice, not a skill, pace, height, strength issue. He actively made the choice that chasing and redeeming his own mistake wasn't worth it. Sorry Thomson I was a maybe but now I'm absolutely off. Delist.

Agreed
-
Balta hits the post from 15m out :facepalm.
Our amateurish goalkicking :banghead.
-
Enjoyable game to watch with absolutely no spice in it for either team. New boys look good. Not taking gloss of it but Port have their heads on a fortnight away.
-
I'm at a genuine loss what you do with Shai and his lazy rubbish snaps. I reckon that's 4-5 absolute gimmir goals he's missed with this stupid back to goal no look snap. At best is lazy at worst it's as unprofessional thing by anyone on 7 figures.
Get serious Shai it's absolutely unacceptable junior footy crap. 1 or 2 you can say take the good with the bad but it's just pathetic.
-
Yep, Port certainly playing bruise free footy
But gee our kids are showing something
Not all doom and gloom
-
I don't think Soldo is out best 22 but at least someone can take a set shot seriously. Good boy Ivan. We deserve to be in front. 5.10..
-
If we are being honeet we should be in front
2.7
Some very easy misses
-
Hooray we actually put one through the middle! Soldo goal :gotigers.
Rich 5.10-40
Port 6.5-41
-
Half-time
Richmond 3.4 5.11-41
Port Adel. 4.3 6.7-43
Goals: Bolton 2, Bauer, Graham, Soldo
The positive is we've been competitive and cubs like Brown are showing good signs. The negative is once again the basics such as goalkicking are letting us down.
-
Richmond has been strong in the air, leading contested marks (13-3) and intercept marks (12-7).
Richmond has restricted Port Adelaide's clearance game, keeping them to a single goal from stoppage situations when they average 40 points per game from this source.
When the sides last met in Round 11, Port Adelaide won contested possessions by 19 and inside 50's by 22. It's been the opposite today, with Richmond leading contested possessions by 17 and inside 50's by 13.
Richmond should be leading this game but have let themselves down with poor efficiency in front of goal. The Tigers have kicked (2.6) from set shots and (2.4) from snap shots.
Dustin Martin has been immense in the opening half. Martin averages 23.1 disposals per game this season but has already had 22 disposals at half-time. He's had a game-high nine score involvements, four more than any other player on the field.

Yes it was poor. He good today overrides that chase. Been the best MID apart from Dusty.
-
SO much more exciting. Dont even care about the result and the constant bolton inaccuracies and undiscplined 50's.
-
Why is Daniel still out there. Clearly injured.
Ridiculous

Why is Daniel still out there. Clearly injured.
Ridiculous
Shouldn't be playing. Been injured for weeks
Needs surgery on his ankle, pointless playing him this week
-
Lol "An open goal square can fix any injury" - quote of the day.
-
Both Richmond debutants (James Trezise and Tom Brown) have looked comfortable on debut, each registering nine disposals in the opening half. Trezise has had a game-high six spoils, while Brown has a disposal efficiency of 100%.
https://www.afl.com.au/afl/matches/4990#timeline
Well Daniel kicked our first of the 3rd after Nank joined in the missing easy chances brigade.
48 - 49
-
Dumb bump from vlastuin. Why are all our senior and experienced players making all the dumb mistakes ALL season
-
Umpires clearly don't know the rules. JHF bounces it whilst bring touched. Play on.
-
Banksy puts us in front! :gotigers
Rich 7.13-55
Port 7.10-52

Bolton. Show off.
-
Bolton poos me to tears.
-
3/4 time
Richmond 3.4 5.11 7.13-55
Port Adel. 4.3 6.7 8.13-61
Goals: Bolton 2, Bauer, Graham, Soldo, D.Rioli, Banks.
Ironically, it was Port missing shots that qtr that has kept the score close.
-
Is Bauer on the flight home or is he still out there?
-
I'm sure that was a goal to Farrell lol.
Maurice another hammy. Frustrating is the only word I can think of.
-
Richmond leads hit-outs (31-11) and hit-outs to advantage (9-1), which has contributed to them leading clearances (27-25). Port Adelaide has subbed out Sam Hayes and will be without a recognised ruckman in the final term.

-
Bolton needs to be taken aside this off season and get the fundamentals drilled into him. He invents ways to stuff things up. So frustrating

-

Close to post of the year
-
How was that not HTB against JHF? ::)
-
Where does balta play next year ? Our defence looks better without him, he’s become too much of a liability there imo. Hasn’t been great up fwd either.. maybe an off season training fwd would help him
-
I've been a fan of Taranto all year but his blind kicking is a real issue for us.
He has to become more damaging.
-
Still don’t bloody know how to punch the ball over the line :banghead
-
Absolutely disgraceful defence.
We do that too often refusing to kill the ball.
Where was the Ruckman?
-
Hello ballwatching! We still don't know how to rush a behind :facepalm.
-
Dusty :gotigers
-
Dusty !!!!!!
-
Bolton limping off. Let's hope he's alright :pray.
-
That Grimes free kick sums up his season.
He's had a very average season.
-
That Grimes free kick sums up his season.
He's had a very average season.
I thought he was actually tripped. But yeah I think he’s done

It is so painful watching Grimes these days
Just panics all the time
And BTW why wasn't it a free to Taranto down the other end
-
How good is zac butters
-
How good is zac butters
He's very good
But gee is a protected species in the eyes of the umps
Loves a throw does young Zac
-
I'm a broken record about this but whoever becomes our new coach needs to teach our blokes to protect the defensive side. We just get burnt all the time out the front. Does my head in! :banghead
-
Surely this game convinces grimes that he’s done. Towelled up by a washed up Rioli
-
That Dylan keeps getting sucked into these off the ball scuffles tells you where he's at IMHO
-
Dangerous tackle
You are kidding me
-
Umps have made a sure thing of this.
Last 3 goals from free gagf
-
Umps have made sure of the result in the last.
-
Final scoreline doesn't give a true indication of how well we've played today
Cubs did well, not all doom and gloom
Umps have screwed us in the last 10 minutes
-
Doesn't matter but some of these late frees to Port are laughable.
-
A gallant performance.
Ultimately just not enough skill or desire to get the result.
Interesting off season coming up.
-
Final Score
Richmond 3.4 5.11 7.13 8.15-63
Port Adel. 4.3 6.7 8.13 13.16-94
Goals: Bolton 2, Martin, Bauer, Graham, Soldo, D.Rioli, Banks.
Competitive. It would've been very easy to just not turn up and let Port cruise to a 10+ goal win.
-
We need fast feet in the middle as Hopper, Taranto, Prestia are all the same paced. The young boys played well as did Dusty :clapping

Far more positives than negatives today

750k for 16 disposals! Hopper and his management are friggin kidding themselves.
-
Playing the 3rd best team in the comp, no Lynch or Gibcus, play 2 first timers and throwing the team around, inaccurate goal kicking, and got umpire reamed again…
I think that is not too bad a result.
I would give us 8.5/10
-
yeah great result against a team that didn't gaff
also no marshall
no dixon
no lycett
FFS they even played Jonas thats how much they cared.
Its a 4/10 for me. The 4 points come from our debutants/newbies and dusty.

People will hate me for saying it and last week was not the time as it was about two greats of our club.
I think if nm did not have the injuries they had for that game it would have been an inglorious loss and a damn poor way to send two champs out. In fact i reckon they would have won if LDU had stayed fit for the game and not a late withdrawal.
