VFL Tigers name Wildcard side
The VFL Tigers have named their line-up for their Wildcard Round clash with Williamstown on Sunday afternoon.
By Zakariya El-Houli, Richmond Media
Just now
Richmond VFL has made five changes for Sunday’s do-or-die Wildcard match against Williamstown at DSV Stadium.
Ninth-placed Richmond will face eighth-placed Williamstown at DSV Stadium from 12:00pm, with the winner advancing to the first elimination final against Southport in the VFL’s finals series.
The last time the two sides met in Round 17, the Seagulls defeated the Tigers by 22 points in wet and windy conditions at DSV Stadium, 8.10 (58) to 5.6 (36).
Entering the side are a trio of omitted AFL Tigers, Jacob Blight, James Trezise and Matthew Coulthard.
VFL Tiger Harry Scott – son of former Richmond footballer, Allister – returns from a long-term injury, and the stand-in co-captain Joel Garner enters the side after serving a one-game suspension.
Coming out of the side who defeated Carlton by nine points last weekend is Harvey Langford who will return to the Dandenong Stingrays in the Coates Talent League, as well as Kane McAuliffe and Nick Guiney with injuries.
Also out of the side are Maurice Rioli Jr. and Marlion Pickett who have both earned AFL recalls.
The highest-ranked winner in the Wildcard Round will advance to the 2024 Smithy’s VFL Finals Series as the seventh-placed team and will take on the Box Hill Hawks in the second elimination final.
The lowest-ranked winner in the Wildcard Round will progress to the first elimination final as the eighth-placed team and will play against the Southport Sharks.
Tickets for Sunday’s game can be purchased here.
For matches played in Victoria during the Wildcard Round through to the Preliminary Finals, admission prices will be:
General Admission – Adult - $15.00
General Admission – Concession/Pensioners $10
General Admission – Child U/15 free
The first bounce is set for 12:00pm. Fans who can't make it to DSV Stadium can watch the game live via Channel 7, the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and the VFL App.

Late change. Cumberland out (illness). VFL-lister Cantwell in.
-
Willy has the 4-5 goal breeze in the first quarter. They just got the first goal from a kick inside the centre square.

I live on the other side of the bay, we cop it bad as well.

As we're seeing so far, we like many visiting teams are struggling to adapt to the ground and conditions :P.

-
Sonsie and Dow are both useless
-
It does my head in that both our AFL and VFL mids run past and forward of the contest including at stoppages before the ball is won and leave the defensive side wide open with free opposition players able to waltz out the front.
It's not helping today either that we're being beaten in 1-on-1s.

-
It’s embarrassing that we are being flogged by a bunch of tradies. stuff me our drafting and list management is pathetic
-
Is this a Port v Tiges 2014 replay?

Quarter time
Richmond 0.2-2
Williamstown 7.5-47
Sure, Willy had the strong breeze, but we are getting beaten at the contest and are clueless in defending.

stuffen pathetic. Morris needs to be sacked. Our setup at stoppage was pathetic

Have our players never played in a strong breeze before?! :facepalm :banghead

You can kick 60m with this breeze but instead we're trying to slowly chip it around and handballing backwards :facepalm.

Our lack of physical presence at both levels really stands out.

Poor attitude. If playing at a venue is negatively in your head then no surprise we're losing.
Williamstown finished higher on the ladder that's why it's their home game. If we hadn't lost to two bottom 4 sides in the last month then this would be our home game. So don't sook about the venue.
-

Yep. We are the worst tackling team too.

Willy get one into the breeze.

Game over! Can't win when you're clueless with and without the breeze.

Our VFL side makes this same mistake time & time again in these conditions because they're an inherently stupid football side coached by a bloke who was an inherently stupid footballer.... :banghead

Another goal to Willy into the breeze. They've now outscored us. Sums up the dumb footy we've played.

Remind again why Davidud is considered a top draft prospect by some this year? :huh

The salary cap for standalone clubs is double what the aligned clubs have
Willy are a well run club with plenty of coin and good on them

I could ask the same about why El Nour should be considered for a rookie spot

Yes, well run, well managed and well coached
The majority of their players are far superior to our VFL listed players and perhaps some of our AFl listed players :huh

Who was sooking about the venue?
One of our VFL-listers [edit: fill-in skipper]. On camera when interviewed on the boundary, he said the VFL needs to look at where they play finals in future.
-
No attack on the ball, can’t stick a tackle ,lack of effort , we should have an award for the least determined , another disappointing effort and embarrassment , l

Just dumb and woeful as we've all already said. They conditions just expose all the major and massive flaws in the so-called gameplan we play at both levels.

Probably because unlike the apparent second coming of 2008 Richo meets Dougie Hawkins, Davidud, he's at least demonstrated good form against good sides in the past....you know like right before that injury he's only just got back from.... :shh

He's been back just on a month now
He's one of the leaders, one of VCs IIRC, he needs to stand up and like most of his teammates hasn't.
As for Davidson, I've actually backed your assessment. Great against the mediocre sides awful against good sodes

But the 2 programs are very separate and have been for a couple of seasons now. Don't think Nank's leadership has any bearing on the the lack of discipline we are seeing today. That is firmly on the coach and the leaders in the VFL program

They train together, that's the AFL blokes playing VFL once a week. The overlap of coaches is AFL development coaches focusing on the AFL listed players playing VFL.
I don't rate Nank as a captain but I just cannot see how he has any impact on the lack of leadership by VFL side today. Actually for the couple of VFL games I've been too this season he wasn't even there

VFL Tigers’ season ends at the hands of the Seagulls
By Zakariya El-Houli
RFC website
25 Aug 2024
Richmond VFL’s season has come to an end, falling to Williamstown by 64 points in Sunday afternoon’s Wildcard clash at DSV Stadium, 18.12 (120) to 7.12 (54).
In a comprehensive showing, the Tigers trailed for the entirety of the contest and were outscored in three out of four quarters.
Kicking with the breeze, the hosts exploded out of the blocks to kick the first seven goals of the game.
After registering just eight inside-50’s in the first quarter, the Tigers were held to two points and entered the first break behind by 45 points.
Richmond’s first goal came at the seven-minute mark of the second quarter through exciting tall forward Archie May.
In a tough day, May was potent up forward and finished with two goals from four scoring shots.
Despite dominating forward-entries for the quarter, the Tigers failed to capitalise on their ascendancy and make ground on a hefty deficit, only managing to convert two goals for the quarter.
Against the grain and the heavy wind, Williamstown closed out the second term to kick back-to-back majors and establish a 50-point half-time lead.
The first goal of the second half came within the first thirty seconds through Matthew Coulthard (eight disposals, two marks, one goal).
However, three consecutive goals from the hosts shut out any slim chance of a Tiger comeback.
Harry Scott provided a rare highlight midway through the third quarter to break the run of three consecutive Williamstown goals with one of his own, however the hosts had established a game-high 68-point lead.
Goals came from AFL-listed Tigers Tyler Sonsie and Samson Ryan’s in the final term, although it didn’t amount to much as the Seagulls were cruising to their second victory over the Tigers in 2024, and a VFL finals berth.
Sunday afternoon's 64-point loss marks Richmond’s second consecutive loss in the VFL’s Wildcard Round.
Williamstown 7.5 10.8 15.11 18.12 (120)
Richmond 0.2 2.6 4.10 7.12 (54)

Same issue in the VFL , no key forwards ,I blame the lack of planning by a football management and recruiters , very disappointing .
