Here's a Stats comparison although in Rainesy's case holding Ricciuto told only 4 possies is worth far more than 20 cheap uncontested possies across half-back.

Andrew hasn't been as prominent in the last couple of games.
Dean is still going along nicely.
Would like to see Foley get a nomination - he's deserved one
Be nice to get back-to-back winners.
:gotigers

Andrew hasn't been as prominent in the last couple of games.
If your boy can keep the little twerp Milne quiet again then he'll be a big show again.
Foley has to be close to getting nominated. Chaplin has been pretty good all year so the judges should eventually get around to nominating Foley. He just needs to keep his current form up. With the consistent kids they often nominate them after games where they don't actually stand out compared to their previous games.

Why is Murphy at $1.80?
I reckon he is no chance of winning the Rising Star off 12 and a 1/4 games

You'd reckon his odds will drift out by the end of the season.

Latest odds from Sportsbet. Rainesy is still on $5.00 despite the disqualification looming over him. Polo has drifted out to $8.00 while Shaw is into $9.00 and Pearce into $5.00 equal with Moi's boy.

But why is Murphy still at $1.90? ???
Maybe the bookies think the judges may just go with the best kid even if he only played just over half the season ???. If Murhpy had played the whole year he would be a shoe in for the RS.

I'll have half a unit on a Raines Rising Star/James McDonald Brownlow double!!
I can't lose!

I was in Firefox and voted there and changed to IE, works there too :thumbsup

Twice from me too :thumbsup. Why doesn't democracy work like this?! :rollin
Rainesy still on 26% after 1948 votes.

You clowns have turned the vote into a fiasco...but if you were greek youd get dead people to vote as well to really finish the job. greeks in the forum who understand greek politics would understand what i mean. ;D
-
They asked Terry about Rainesy and the RS and he said that's up to others to judge but he hoped the panel just doesn't base their decision on marks, kicks and handballs but also on who they play on. Rainsey's played on big opponents such as Riccuito.
-
I reckon hes over the line. A strong finish against ess, carl and wce will see RFC get its 2nd winner in 2 years.

Pearce has jumped ahead of Rainesy on the betting to $3.50 :-\.

How can Murphy still be favourite when he's only played half a season? :banghead
I know!
I am pretty sure that it was Kevin Sheehan who said that the Rising Star isn't based on potential, just on performance for the whole year.
Wouldn't picking Marc Murphy be kind of basing it on potential??
-
Rainesy now $3 and second favourite :thumbsup just behind Murphy. Polo is $21 while Foley for some bizarre reason is least favourite at $100 ???.

The bidding process is in full swing:
Swan: Heath a Shaw thing
26 August 2006 Herald-Sun
AAP
COLLINGWOOD half-back Dane Swan has no doubt his dashing backline partner Heath Shaw should win this year's AFL Rising Star award over popular favourite Andrew Raines.
Richmond's Raines was nominated by bookmakers yesterday as the marginal favourite ahead of Shaw for the AFL's best young player award of 2006, and the Tigers this week spoke up their man's chances.
With only two games left for voting, Swan said Shaw's effective rebounding from the backline had been a major factor in Collingwood's rise, and that the Magpies were right behind Shaw.
"I'd say we're biased, but we think there's no doubt that Heath should win it," said Swan, who is also enjoying a career-best season.
"Especially given he's playing well in a side that's going to finish high up in the finals and he's been in our top three consistent players all year.
"He's beaten some very big names and he's averaging 23, 24 possessions a game and he's played 19 games.
"I don't think there's any doubt Heath should win the Rising Star even though Andrew Raines has had a very good year too.
"Heath's going to play in the finals and his run off half-back has been one of the main points why we're in the finals."
Shaw and Raines share similar traits entering what could be a close call on this year's award winner.
They are sons of famous footballers -- Raines' father Geoff starred in the Tigers' 1980 Grand Final win, while Shaw's dad Ray captained the Magpies that day -- and the rebounding defenders, both 20, have cemented their spots this season after a handful of games in 2005.
Raines has played all 20 games in 2006 for 355 disposals and one goal, which came last week when he was best on ground against Carlton.
Shaw has played 19 games, won 412 possessions, booted eight goals, and was one of the Magpies' best in last week's narrow win against Port Adelaide, often running hard up the ground.
Swan said Shaw's improvement had come off the back of his dash out of defence.
"That's why his game has developed so quickly," Swan said.
"He's been prepared to take more risks and (coach) Mick (Malthouse) has given him the license to run off his man and take a few risks.
"He's done that with (VFL side) Williamstown and he's now repaying the coach's faith by cementing a spot in the half-back line and doing very well."
Raines' Richmond plays Essendon at the MCG tonight, while Shaw's Collingwood plays Carlton at the MCG tomorrow.

Pearce was good in Port's upset win while Shaw didn't do much. Rainsey needs a good game next week to get him over the line.
-
Hmm, I may be biased, but I think he has already won it :P
But a good game on Saturday would firmly place it in his hands ;D
-
The AFL site has a Rising Star Award Poll going: - afl.com.au
Rainesy in front so far :thumbsup.
Who will win the NAB AFL Rising Star Award?
Marc Murphy 12%
Andrew Raines 30%
Danyle Pearce 19%
Heath Shaw 26%
Matthew Bate 6%
Grant Birchall 7%
Total votes:: 2555
-
Heath Shaw only got 13 possies today despite the Pies big win while Pearce got 16 for Port last night. Rainsey's 26 possies would have been the standout of the 3 this weekend. Birchall got something like 33 duisposals today but if they are judging the RS over the whole year then Muprhy and Birchall should miss out.
-
With the pressure on Pagan, I wondered how many rising star nominations they got this year. Just Marc Murphy. Does anyone rate the Blues' kids - or the Bombers for that matter, as they had no nominations ;D
Have Sheeds and Pagain recruited well for the future? The Blues have been down the bottom a while now and should have a few kids coming through
I'm hoping for really negative responses lol, but probably realistic would be the go.
-
all the fuss is about raines, shaw and murphy.
but
imho
POLO deserves the award
-
I actually agree with X.
Polo has been atleast on a par with both, but it seems that because of names, Dean Polo will get disregarded and thats unfair.
-

i agree, if polos surname was weightman, or bartlett etc, he would have been a shoe in.
this yr was his first taste of afl level and imo , has been better than all other nominees this yr. he works hard, has won games 4 us, makes the right decisions, 4 his size very strong and i reckon if selectors are fair dinkum, polo should win it
but we all know that they are not and will be sucked into the murphy, shaw raiines hype
-
Polo is like a young Scotty West. Misses out on the accolades because he is more a consistent workhorse than a showman. Maybe KB will give Raines, Polo and Foley his 5-4-3 votes ;D.

As well as Murphy, the Blues' Josh Kennedy I would rate too. Andrew Walker is coming on slowly. Waite and Thorton would be better players in a good side. LOL @ some clown on BF saying Eddie Betts will be better than Tambling ::).
As Essendon, Stanton and Watson are not bad but no better than what we have already. The bombers still reply heavily on their older premiership players - Hird, Lucas, both Johnsons, Fletcher and Lloyd. What happens in 2-3 years time when most of them are gone? I hope Mark Bolton plays for them forever though :lol.
-
I don't think Rainsey has been rated as having a good season based on his surname ::)
I think he's done a couple of good things.
Be glad if either Dean, Rainsey or Foley won it. I can't split who's been the better, but have a bit of a bias ;D
-
Rainesy will most likely win it, won't say he will win it because i don't want to jinx him :lol

This Wednesday, 6th September
at the Palladium, Crown
at 12pm
-
Best of luck to Rainesy tomorrow at Crown Casino. There was a big middle page spread of Raines, Shaw, Pearce and Bartram in the MX today but they tipped Shaw and Pearce based on stats. At least Goughy on the AFL site stuck by his Tiges and went for Rainesy. Let's hope KB does the same lol.
-
Good luck to all our boys :pray

Good luck to Andrew, Dean and Nathan today :thumbsup :gotigers

Decision later this hour apparently.
-
Rainesy interviewed at Crown on stage by Quartermain:
* Hopes he can stay for a fair while at Tigerland.
* A few solid days since Mad Monday ;D.
* Hopes he looks like his mum sitting in the audience as she is a lovely lady lol.
* Very happy and honoured to wear #4. Wore it as a junior so he's use to wearing to it.
* Step in the right direction playing the younger guys due to the injuries we've had and ending up with one more win than last year with more senior players. Still a long way to go but we've improved.

Any news yet?

the fact that polo could not even score a vote shows the award is just as bs as the brownlow
what a crock of poo

I actually think Pearce is a very good player, watched him the last few weeks and thought he should poll fairly well.
I reckon Port have a great group of youngsters. They have drafed very well and will be back up the top very soon.
-
Agree Bully. Mark Williams was smart trading away Carr to Freo for high picks and offloading Nick Stevens.
It was hard to split b/w the 3 favourites but Pearce won it because he played in the guts.
ps. LOL fwoy. My typing skills aren't that good to type that fast :P.
-
We're not about individual accolades at Richmond lol
We aim to achieve "team" goals
Shame we can't achieve those either :rollin
Bad luck Rainsey, Polo and Foley, you did well this year and we'll show all these upstarts when we win our next premiership who's got the best kids.

I'm sure Polo would rather premiership medal around his neck than a vote in a RS award. I doubt he'll be bothered.

The others were more on show in the second half of the year. Birchall, Bartram and Rischitelli had good years too and would be fresh in the judges' memory. Birchall was getting 30 possies in the last month. Polo would have been rated just outside of the top 5.
-
Bad luck to Rainsey. But congratulations on having such a good year. :clapping
