Hopefully we can increase numbers this year lol- last year we had about 10 people so hopefully we can get 15 or 20.
-
We were all intimidated by the prowess of a bloke named Fluffy ;D.
-
I expect atleast 15 people in this, fluff & company they havent registered yet ...Where are ya!

Just registered. Here's to some competitiveness, rivalry, antagonism and most of all some fun and laughs from August onwards ;D.

-
is this like DT or supercoach.
Just concerned that I mighten have the time (year 12 :help )
-
Common Bluey- just do a team.
from memory only 1 transfer a week is free when the season starts, extra transfers cost 3 points etc. so you can set a team and leave it pretty much.
-
Ramps is right. This EPL fantasy league is a lot less time consuming than the AFL ones. Helps that it isn't a Telstra hosted site too ;).
Bluey just pick a team and if need be leave it until the end of your exams in November. Good luck with your Year 12 exams by the way :cheers
-

Socceroo Marco Bresciano has moved to Manchester City in the EPL from Italian club Palermo.

Everyone should try and get 2 people to sign up to our league. We only have about 7 starters. So lets get as many people as we can.

Bump.

A late spanner in the works over payments has put Bresciano's transfer on hold.

Yes, I had to severely trade after just the first week with injuries to some key players in my squad. I took a 20 point deduction, so should be closer than my current position suggests. :whistle
-
Likewise LT but we are only two games out of 38 in.
Plenty of time left ;D

Not all clubs like Ar_senal and Liverpool have played two EPL games so the scores are all over the place.

I see MT has taken an early lead, but its early still and I expect the comp to hot up over the coming weeks.

THat 4-4 draw was bloody fantastic. Tottenham celebrated like a win. The last goal looked offside though. shh though! :shh :lol
Now I know this is the EPL thread but I'm going to throw in this joke of a champion league disaster. Its bad enough soccer puts up with all the people calling it soft, its even worse when a player does this. The fan is stupid sure but for Dida to become a soapy star actor hitting the deck is even worse. Shame, Dida, Shame. :banghead

We can't blame Richmond for those bad skills lol.
Spurs are in big trouble.

New manager from Sevilla Juande Ramos has been appointed.
Gus Poyet has also quit his job as Leeds manager to go to White Hart Lane as first team coach.
You'll find that Spurs will be out of the bottom 3 before the end of the season. Too big a club to go down although if they do they will be laughing stock of Nth London.

Agree HT74. A few buys in January should see them safe by May a la West Ham last season but right now Spurs are woeful.

Poland, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Czechs, Germany, Croatia, Spain, Sweden, Romania and Holland have all qualified. Austria and Switzerland are the hosts.
The last two spots in the final 16 will be out of Turkey/Norway and England/Russia/Israel. Israel knocked off Guus' Russia 2 - 1 to rescue England's hopes of qualifying and Turkey beat Norway 2 - 1 away to jump over them with one match to go.
-
In the case of England and Turkey their destiny is their hands
For England avoid defeat against Croatia at Wembley
and for Turkey beat the fellow Muslim country in Bosnia.
Norway missed a big opportunity to qualify and I feel sorry for the Scots
virtually top 2 for all the qualification and even had chances at 1-1 before
ultimately going down. Reminds me of us in 1998 in the 8 all year bar the end
of round 22. Kind of leaves you numb and hollow.

The Scots screwed up their chance the round before against minnows Georgia. Yep sadly very Richmond-like :P. The professionalism of the Italians always gets them through. They always know just what they need to do.
Surprises me that UEFA put Greece and Turkey in the same group. It's been very civil for a potential WW3 scenario on the pitch lol. I remember stories of local games in the western suburbs in the 80's of blokes wearing spikes on their boots :o whenever Greek and Turk club sides met.
-
Perhaps UEFA in all their wisdom might draw out Greece Turkey and FYROM for the qualification process of the 2010 World Cup. Now that would be an uneasy truce.
As for the Scots loss to Georgia MT to draw parrallel lines again to 1998 it was the equivalent of our loss at Waverley to Hawthorn in round 18. Just left us with too much to do mentally come that final game against the Dees just like what happened with the Tartan Army against the Italians.

That analogy is scarily on the money :P.

The poor Poms lost at home to Croatia to miss out on Euro 2008. Best league in the world yet the most overrated national side :wallywink.
England 2 - 3 Croatia
Andorra 0 - 1 Russia
Italy 3 - 1 Faroe Islands
Hungary 1 - 2 Greece
Turkey 1 - 0 Bosnia-Herzegovina
Euro 2008 final 16 qualifers:
Poland, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Turkey, Czechs, Germany, Croatia, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Romania and Holland. Austria and Switzerland are the hosts.
-
The Poms in cricket and Rugby and just about every other sport they have created are so overrated. Individually the English squad is great however missing key defenders like Terry and Fedinand does not help your cause. Also their coaching has left alot to be desired. Beckham should not have been cast off originally and then when he is brought back it is in cameos. Their reign at the top in sports ended years ago they need to look elsewhere in continental Europe to get their man. Look at Guus he had a mediocre Russian team by standards from previous World Cup and Euro campaigns but he had them in the box seat all through the qualifying till an unlucky loss to Israel on Sat nite. As punishment McClaren will be sent to toil in the penal colony of New Holland and coach their national team now that his stocks have been severley depleted and he will fall within the 3million price range the FFA is willing to pay. :lol
The Draw for the championships will be made on Dec 2 with
Greece Holland and host nations Switzerland and Austria the seeded teams who will headline each of the four groups and will not meet in the group stage. :clapping
Last nites results also ensured that Greece overtook England in the FIFA rankings and qualified them as an A seed team from Europe in terms of the draw for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. :cheers
-

LOL God NO! El Tel was their assistant coach so we would get him back as well :help. The Pommie coaches have no idea technically on how to win games. You don't qualify by dropping 13 points. Same goes for our home grown Aussie coaches. They have no idea either and guess from where they learnt their coaching-style from :whistle.

Special mention to Inverness Caledonian Thistle who came from 0-2 down to beat Celtic 3-2 in Scotland. ICT is famous for the newspaper headline based on Mary Poppins - "Super-Cally-Was-Terrific-Celtic-Was-Atrocious" after knocking off Celtic a few years ago in the Scottish FA Cup.

QPR could be the next English club to rise out of nowhere (they're last in the championship now) as the family of the richest man in Britain, steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, has bought a 20 percent stake in League Championship soccer club Queens Park Rangers.
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/12/20/sports/EU-SPT-SOC-QPR-Mittal.php#end_main
The club, which was taken over by Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone and Renault team boss Flavio Briatore in November, did not disclose the sum paid for the stake.
Mittal was ranked the fifth-richest man in the world this year by Forbes magazine, which estimated his worth at US$32 billion (€22.3 billion) in August.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was ranked 16th on the Forbes List. Chelsea is located just 5.6 kilometers (3.5 miles) from Queens Park Rangers in West London.
-
West London home of the rich and famous
Will make for some very affluent derby matches with Fulham owned by the Harrods owner Dodi Al Fayed and Abramovich's Chelsea.
For followeres of English football QPR were an integral part of the old English Division 1 and Premier League until they got relegated in 1996.
It seems club ownership is becoming a more too apparent thing in English football but even so I cannot envisage the big 3 Man Utd Liverpool Arsenal being threatened by this as once these sugar daddys spend so-o-o-o-o much money for little or success they will move on and spend their money on other projects.

Arsenal on top at Christmas.
In the last 5 seasons the team on top at the end of the Calendar Year goes on to win the Championship.
Conversely only once has a team avoided the drop when they have been bottom at Christmas and that was West Bromwich Albion in 2004/05 since the Premier Leagues inception in 1992/93 so Derby have history against them from that point of view as well as trying to avoid Sunderlands record low haul of 15 points in season 2005/06. Currently they have only 7 so the next 4 months augurs for a fascinating climax at both ends of the table.
-
The January transfer window is going to be important for some of the clubs in the drop zone. West Ham effectively bought themselves survival last season. The bottom 5 from Birmingham down look to be where the 3 relegated clubs will come from. The last champions league spot is still up for grabs despite Liverpool being the one who should claim it. Best of all the main Aussie boys are all in top form. Fingers crossed no more injuries before the WC qualifers next year :pray.

Glad to hear somebody is comming after me as I was begining to let my guard down. 88 is impressive but you will need to do it few times before I worry to much about lossing the title. ;)
"Fluffy by sea" (or fruitcakes) also had a good 21 point win in R1 of the knockout stage so it will be interesting to see how far we can take it this year (R2 by 1 point last year).
Anyway thanks for drawing my attention to this league Ramps.

The Hammers have always given Man U trouble at Upton Park. Punished Ronaldo for missing a penalty that would have put United two up.
-
bloody ronaldo ... he cost me 12 points or something for my dream team, he lost 2 points for missing the penalty, a goal would have got him another 4 or something and I had him captain. Now im stranded in a major confrontation with my fantasy cup opponent, we are both on the same points going in to tomorrows games after transfers and autosubs are taken into account, he has Gerrard in Liverpool vs Man City and I have Santa Cruz and Bentley playing for Blackburn. I also had Robbie Keane miss a penalty as well.
The Idiots.
-
LOL Ramps. Go the mighty Irons :thumbsup.
On a tragic note, RIP to the Motherwell captain in Scotland who collapsed and died on the pitch overnight. He was only 35 :(.

to many blokes are dying on the park... somethings gotta happen, you cant have blokes falling over like flies. RIP anyway to the player and hopefully his club looks after his family.

I think it's just sadly for want of a better word bad luck. He could have had a weak or crook heart that no one including himself knew about. There are so many soccer games played in every country of the world. Not sure anything can be done about it unless it became compulsory for every professional footballer to have a ECG before it season.

My Blackburn boys have come through for team 10 Flags. 10 Flags is safely through to R3 of the Fantasy Cup after Steve Gerrard only knocked up 3 points for my opponent. 10 Flags is on track to deliver great glory to Punt Road.

Overnight EPL results:
Derby 1 - 2 Blackburn.

Another missed penalty. This time costing poor relegation bound Derby County. Aussie Brett Emerton played the full 90 minutes for Blackburn.
On a side note, Hull City, the Tigers in English soccer, won and are now just 1 point away from the top 6 of the League Championship. We could have a Tigers in the EPL next season if they make and win the playoffs ;).

Watch the highlights of this game on the news if you get a chance.
I've never seen fans cost their own team a goal :rollin. City supporters' balloons which were let go before the game ended up lying on the pitch inside the 6 yard box during the game. The ball then deflected pass a City defender straight to a Sheffield striker who tapped it in :lol.

Thank god for man u giving me something to be happy for sporting wise over the years,MT.
Cristiano Ronaldo has had such a mind blowing season so far and sir alex didnt have to bring he or rooney on until some 70 odd minutes into the game last night.
After the 4-0 trouncing of arsenal a few weeks back it might be a matter of time before man u really bring it home after a sluggish start to the season and assume top position and another title.
-
Yep TT. That 4-0 flogging in the FA Cup plus Eduardo's horrific injury seems to have taken the wind out of the Gunners' sails while Man U continues to chalk up big wins. Chelsea looks more a threat on form than Ar_senal at the minute.
-
A good night for both the red and blue halves of Merseyside.
Bolton 1 - 3 Liverpool
Everton 3 - 1 Portsmouth
-
Arsenal will limp home. Under Wenger they have a blistering plan A, but relatively little to fall back on.
Man U are more dynamic than that and have a more versatile squad.
Don't write off Chelsea, they have a couple of easy of easy weeks and then get down to business. If they can get revenge over the mighty Tottenham, then they face Arsenal and United at home, with United also having to play Liverpool and Arsenal before the end of the season.
This is very much a three horse race and Chelsea haven't played anywhere near their best. Despite that I think they have the best natural goalscorer in Drogba.
A lot will depend on when these teams drop out of Europe.
I'm looking at Chelsea's $6.00 odds on Centrebet at the moment... :-\

Barnsley knocked out Chelsea too :gobdrop so there's no big 4 clubs left in the FA Cup.
Great for us neutrals. A good chance now of a minnow winning it and what made the FA Cup special.
Portsmouth and Barnsley through to the semis. Middlesbrough or Cardiff City and Bristol Rovers or West Bromwich Albion to join them.
As for the EPL, Kevin Keegan is dead man walking at Newcastle. They haven't won in 12 weeks and are only 3 points off relegation.

The Fluffmeister has now got a serious crisis. Fluff has fallen to 2nd place after leading all year. Will Fluff lose his crown?

I finally got him and on the day the tiges kicked Carlton's arse.
WHAT A GREAT DAY. GO MARK OF RESPECT. :clapping
GO RICHO :gotigers

I cant actually believe you hit the front with 6 or 7 weeks to go. Youve almost stolen it from Fluff. Hes not gonna be happy Gonzo. The question is can Fluffy respond, can he lift his rabble of a team of the canvas and can you Mr Gonzo, can you hold on or will you fold under the intense pressure ;D

Man Utd 3 - 0 Liverpool
Chelsea 2 - 1 Ar_senal

Ar_senal came from 2 goals down to win and keep their slim title hopes alive. Bolton's now 4 points from safety with just 6 games remaining. They, Fulham and poor old Derby look the most likely 3 to go down.
Bolton 2 - 3 Ar_senal
Birmingham 3 - 1 Man City
Derby 2 - 2 Fulham
Portsmouth 2 - 0 Wigan

With last nights results Derby have already been releagated. 21 points from safety with 18 points left to compete for. The Rams need 4 points to not make history and be the worst performed side in a single season in the Premiership. On the other hand Man Utd are 13 points away from the title taking into account the Chelsea Middlesbrough game tonight.

We responded and hit the front again but it will be tight for the rest of the season. The coach (me ) made a terrible mistake a few rounds ago where he saw a news report that he thought said Ronaldo had done a knee. So he changed out his captin for that week only to loose about 36 points for not bothering to check. Stupid and could cost me the title. The fact that I have a Hong Kong trip comming up soon and might not be able to change the team for a couple of weeks could have a infulance too. Anyway we are still in there battling and the title is there if we want it bad enough.
-
Liverpool looks to have sewn up the last champions league spot. Everton would have missed Timmy Cahill who's out for the rest of the season :(.

LIVERPOOL :thumbsup the butcher in the supermarket wanted to buy my European Champions League 2005 t-shirt off me. l got 2 of them but they aint for sale & 1 is signed by Sami Hyypia ;D you cant buy them here, my friend sent them cause he know l'm a mad supporter. Next year l get to see a few live games when we stay with them for 6 weeks :thumbsup

European Champions League game with Liverpool 1 vs A,rsenal 1 would have to be one of the worst games l have watched liverpool play, l thought they only went there to get a 1all draw to win on agregate but they must win at home & stop A,rsenal from scoring
They play each other 3 times in 6 days its going to be some late nights early mornings :thumbsup

Anus and The Rest 1 Liverpool 1
Aston Villa 4 Bolton 0
Fulham 1 Sunderland 3
Man City 0 Chelsea 2
Blackburn 1 Tottenham 1

I think the bottom 3 has been sorted out. We know Derby is gone but Fulham and Bolton look doomed especially with their current form. They are playing like two teams resigned to their fate.
At the top unless Borough have a win or get a point over Man Utd then The Gunners title hopes are all but over. Looks like the Title race is between Man Utd and Chelsea which makes the April 26 clash between them at Stamford Bridge as the Title Decider.

To walk away from the Emirates twice with draws TM was a good result for Liverpool. They ahve the advantage in the Champions League and maintain their 4th spot in the EPL.
Massive game now between Chelsea and Man U at the end of the month.
In the FA Cup, Portsmouth will play Cardiff in the final. Cardiff beat Barnsley 1-0.
There's going to be some very happy fans of the winner. Portsmouth hasn't won it for 70 years and Cardiff for 80 something :o. And we think we've been waiting a long time for success lol.

This is the week I hope to finally make a gap between myself and the Fluffmeister. Lets hope my players look after me this week. I'm desperate for the bonus money associated with winning the league.

Fulham vs Birmingham in the second last week is looking more a crunch game. Bolton have Chelsea in the last week so they wouldn't want to be still in the drop zone by then.
-
Man Utd has killed off Ar_senal's title hopes. The Red Devils won 2-1 after trailing early.
Man Utd 2 - 1 Ar_senal
Liverpool 3 - 1 Blackburn

Fluffy stays ahead, just. Its going to be tight with me going away for two weeks but I think we can do it. I have a funny feeling I will be finding a way to update my team while away. :shh

And ex-Liverpudian Heskey spoils Chelsea's title hopes in injury time. Man U now 5 points clear with just 4 games to go.

The fantasy league this year is as the legendary KB would say a "thriller diller"
Gonzo is leading - just. Fluffys crown is on the line. Who will take the OER Fantasy League V2? Who will walk away with bragging rights? Can Fluff respond in a last ditch effort to retain his title? Its all happening! ;D

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Champions League semi final first leg this morning at Anfield was like watching Richmond all over again when in the dying seconds of added time Arne Riise the sub headed a own goal after Liverpool had it won, cause the dick cant kick with his right foot. He signed his death warrant & will be gone at years end now.
Liverpool 1 drew Chelsea 1

lol what the hell was Riise thinking trying to head a ball that was shin height :wallywink.
-
l know had me gob smacked, his been a top defender for years & is one of the best & hardest shots on goal & yet produces that.
What stumped me more is Pepe Reina is too flat footed & lazy he could have easy cut that off before it got to Riise
-
Man U and Chelsea are in front after the first legs but Torres and Henry are classy enough to get Liverpool and Barca respectively through on their day. Both semi-finals are still wide open IMO.
-
The title race is still alive. A disputed 86th minute penalty for a handball by Man Utd's Michael Carrick has handed Chelsea a 2-1 victory to tie things up with two games to go.
Pld Pts GD
Man United 36 81 +53
Chelsea 36 81 +37
Man Utd have games at home to West Ham and away to Wigan.
Chelsea are away to Newcastle and at home to Bolton.
Will most likely go down to the wire.
-
At the relegation end of the table, Fulham has kept its remote chance of staying up alive while Birmingham blew a 2 goal lead against Liverpool.
Birmingham 2 - 2 Liverpool
Man City 2 - 3 Fulham
Sunderland 3 - 2 Middlesbrough
Tottenham 1 - 1 Bolton
West Ham 2 - 2 Newcastle
Wigan 0 - 0 Reading
With just 2 games to go....
16. Bolton 33 -20
17. Reading 33 -28

18. Birmingham 32 -17
19. Fulham 30 -25
20. Derby 11

Man U have the easier path on paper IMO. The Hammers are giving away points :scream and Wigan look safe so they may have nothing to play for. Whereas St James' Park is never a easy place to win and Bolton will be fighting for its premier league survival.

West Ham did do the double over Man Utd last season and did beat them at Upton Park 2-1 earlier in the campaign. So you never know the Hammers might be United's bogie team. United will beat Wigan on the last day easily. Wigan are safe so Steve Bruce will professionally allow his former boss the easy passage through to the title. Key week is next week. Title will be decided next week as both Chelsea and Man Utd will win on the final day.
At the bottom end of the table Birmingham v Reading next week should shed some light on who will take fall through the trapdoor into the Coca Cola Championship.

draw with Birmingham & Liverpool 2 all but its nothing to worry about our position is solid 4th
their not playing thier best side & saving them for Chelsea this week.
Rafael Benitez the manager will field a low side for the remaining games to see who is worthing of keeping at the club
Aussie Harry Kewell is bye bye
-
Yep TM, Liverpool will rest their stars for Europe. Not sure where Harry will go. He won't get a spot at any of the other Big 4 if he is goes from Anfield.
West Ham did do the double over Man Utd last season and did beat them at Upton Park 2-1 earlier in the campaign. So you never know the Hammers might be United's bogie team.
True HT74 and the Hammers have spoiled Man U's party before with the title on the line but the way we've been playing over the past 2 months since we dropped out of the UEFA race has been ordinary to say the least (injuries being partly to blame). We've coughed up leads and late goals in each half (2 against Newcastle on the weekend :P ) and just got over a pathetic Derby at Upton Park last week. It'd be nice to role Man U once again but I won't be holding my breath.
-
Some crazy stuff going on with the managers in the EPL. Sven Goran Errickson is on a knife-edge from being sacked despite delivering Man City's best season ever in the top flight. Same goes for Benitez at Liverpool and Grant at Chelsea if they don't win the Champions League. Talk about cut throat. Puts Richmond of the 80's and 90's to shame lol.
-
All England Champions League thanks to Man U beating Barca this morning. It just shows how much the EPL has grown in strength and overtaken the Premiera Liga and Serie A.

Riise's gunna have some sleepless nights after the Pool got knocked out. Reina won't be happy either not protecting his inside post for Drogba's first goal.
The Moscow police are going to be happy about an all-England hooligan final :nope lol.
-
Pepe Reina is one lazy flat footfooted MF goalkeeper l ever seen in my life, his really turned to poo this year
Liverpool are breeding some new goalkeepers & the reserves keeper is a gem just waiting to go
Riise wont be bothered its not the first time he done it in a game but heard he maybe being cut loose which suits me cause his decision making has not been good in both finals
Sami Hyypia needs to retire, his making too many mistakes & has a bad habit of looking for offside all the time & stopping while his opponants setup goals & thats where Liverpool lost the game. also gave away a easy penalty >:(
-
Man Utd now just one win away from the title.
Man Utd 4 - 1 West Ham
Aston Villa 0 - 2 Wigan
Blackburn 3 - 1 Derby
Fulham 2 - 0 Birmingham
Middlesbrough 2 - 0 Portsmouth
Reading 0 - 1 Tottenham
Bolton 2 - 0 Sunderland
At the relegation end, Fulham has jumped out of the bottom 3 and Bolton is safe.

Newcastle 0 - 2 Chelsea
So the EPL title will come down to the final weekend of games...
Wigan vs Man Utd
Chelsea vs Bolton

So the EPL title will come down to the final weekend of games...
Dont worry about the EPL, the main thing is that there is only 5 points in the OER League, so its going to be close. Can I get up for the second year given the huge mistake I made in trading away Ronaldo for a week and costing myself 40 points. How many trades do I make this week and how many for the leader ? It will be interesting. Good luck all

the pressures on Fluff. Its either you or Gonzo in 2008. We shall know the answer soon enough ;D

Kewell and Liverpool have parted ways. Interesting where he ends up now and whether he'll be so injury prone at a new club.

l knew weeks ago Kewell was out the door, got told by family member overseas who is a cab driver in Chester & picks up alot of players.
Liverpool ressies won the league & Liverpool overall done very well now its time to trade
Note they also have a Gary Ablett in the camp ;D
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N159867080508-1454.htm
as for Harry Kewell l dont rate his chances of getting into a good side his asking rubbish money & his not rated as a good player anymore
Riise still has 1 year on his contract but l'm told his as good as out the door :thumbsup
l be at Anfield next year when l go missing in action ;D l cant wait
-
Manchester United are the EPL champions thanks to Giggs and a penalty to Ronaldo.
Wigan 0 - 2 Man Utd
Chelsea 1 - 1 Bolton
In the other EPL games, Fulham won to survive the drop. Relegated Birmingham and Reading will join Derby County in the League Championship next season.
In terms of European football, Ar_senal and Liverpool won qualifying spots in next season's Champions League. Man U and Chelsea automatically are in it. Everton will be in the UEFA Cup.
Birmingham 4 - 1 Blackburn
Derby 0 - 4 Reading
Portsmouth 0 - 1 Fulham
Sunderland 0 - 1 Arsenal
Tottenham 0 - 2 Liverpool
West Ham 2 - 2 Aston Villa
Middlesbrough 8 - 1 Man City :o
Everton 3 - 1 Newcastle
In first-leg EPL promotion games in the League Championship, Aussie Nicky Carle's Bristol City won 2 - 1 away to Crystal Palace while Hull won 2 - 0 away to Watford.

Man Utd won the European Championship this morning. 6-5 on penalties after it finished 1-1.
Chelsea fans rioted in West London after the loss.

I still think penalities are a stupid way of deciding a major tournament. It just comes down to luck.
Not sure why Schwarzer would leave Middlebrough to join a small club like Fulham who only just avoided relegation. A strange move looking from afar.
-
Hull won 1-0 over Bristol City overnight to earn the Tigers promotion into the EPL. Only took 104 years to reach the top flight.
In other news, Chelsea has sacked Grant after their Champions League final loss so their after a new manager.
-
I have a new interest in the EPL now. Go TIGES! ;D

Lets go boys its on again :thumbsup
