Do we really need a guy who cant kick a goal from 15 metres out, in our team.

Cant stand how he plays Football. So weak and skills equivalent to Paul Bulluss.

I was thinking he may not get much game time this year and if he gets any injury I cant see how he will figure in our side

Ch 10 news said Sugar has a swollen knee and will sit out next week against St Kilda. Sounds like it's just a knock and nothing serious.

from today's Herald-Sun.....

Former captain Kane Johnson has been cleared of serious injury after he was carried off on Thursday night, but has a bad case of bone bruising.

Football manager Ross Monaghan said the club was confident Johnson was simply sore from deep bruising.

"He's much better today than he was last night, and, while we are not sure of the complete extent of the injury, he certainly is improving," he said. "He had some bone bruising from (a tumble) at training at Victoria Park and this has stirred it up a little bit, but I don't think it's anything sinister."

Johnson is unlikely to play next week but is expected to be fit for Round 1.

l'm older than Johnson by years & had more serious injuries & can kick longer than him on both feet
his so fatigued he has no energy to kick let alone calling out for the ball from behind again many times on Thursday night.
No poo the collingwood players were running faster backwards covering than he was progressing forward.
being a No1 cares games l hope he was only playing at half pass cause l dont think his really that slow.
l give him credit for being a blocking in & under player which has helped Tuck learn from him & effect play & for being one to hold the ball in when needed putting his body on the line being the bottom of the stacks on pack, l think Sugar might be playing possum  ;D
Title: Johnson undergoes knee surgery (RFC)

Johnson undergoes knee surgery
richmondfc.com.au
5:43 PM Thu 05 March, 2009

FORMER Richmond skipper Kane Johnson underwent minor knee surgery on Thursday after an injury picked up in last week’s NAB Cup loss to Collingwood.

Johnson had a knee arthroscopy at Epworth Hospital and is expected to remain on the sidelines for several weeks.

Richmond doctor Greg Hickey assured Tiger fans that Johnson’s injury was not likely to keep him off the field for an extended period.

“Kane has experienced ongoing issues since he suffered a knee injury against Collingwood in round two of the NAB Cup,” Dr Hickey told richmondfc.com.au.

“He has sustained only minor damage to his cartilage but it will require a clean up,” he said.

"I would expect he would be out of action for several weeks.”

The Tigers travel to Shepparton on Friday for a NAB Challenge fixture against St Kilda, which will mark the return of Graham Polak to senior football.

Recently drafted rookie Andrew Browne has been named in the squad to make his debut for the Tigers.

Sugar originally injured that knee at training a couple of weeks back. He then reinjured it during the Pies game  :-\. 3 weeks is going to be tight to see him okay for round 1.

TBH his spot was one I personally had under the pump with the likes of Raines, Cuz and Thompson competing for a midfield role that weren't in R22 2008 side..dont forget cotch will be right come R2-3..sugar will really battle for his spot :-\

Title: Sugar out until round 5 at least (Age)
Post by: one-eyed on March 11, 2009, 01:30:57 AM
from Today's Age....

...Former captain Kane Johnson's knee surgery last week means he is unlikely to be able to play again before round five.

Johnson, who injured his knee in the club's NAB Cup loss to Collingwood, had an arthroscope on the joint last week. "It's early days with Kane because the surgery was only last Friday but the early indications are that there is only a small amount of swelling and he is feeling good," Monaghan said.

"We would hope he is back playing footy again (in the VFL) by about round five."

Unless our midfield falls over dramatically I cant see him getting back in apart from cameo's on the bench

Agreed.  If he gets back to a regular spot then it will mean 1 of 2 things - we have multiple injuries or we are playing like crap.

With Question Marks all over Cogs Cotch and Cousins fitness....Kane is a handy player to have on our list.
Players like White and Edwards are still probably a year away from becomming AFL standard midfielders too.Im happy for Kane to play out this year then retire.
Just dont pass it to him when he is running into an open goal  :lol
