Title: Tigers still to decide if they will elevate a rookie (Age)
Post by: one-eyed on March 11, 2009, 01:27:29 AM
from Today's Age...

The Tigers are still to decide if they will elevate a rookie to the senior list, given Kane Pettifer will be on the long-term injury list until round three.

Small forward Robbie Nahas has impressed at times while Jarrod Silvester has played in each of the pre-season matches and performed well.

Raw teenager Andrew Browne, an 18-year-old, 205-centimetre ruckman from the Murray Bushrangers, provided an eye-opening display when he went against experienced Saints ruckmen Steven King and Michael Gardner in Shepparton last week.

If Browne is performing as impressively as reported and the coaching staff believe he should get the round 1 nod as 2nd ruckman ahead of Gus then the club will have a dilemma on its hands next week. Petts is only on the LTIL till round 3 from memory so do you promote a rookie for just 2 weeks?  :-\. Unfair on AB too if he were promoted and actually were to do well in first two rounds and then was forced back to Coburg.

I actually think that you do MT, what's wrong with giving the kid a taste of the big stuff? Also it means that Gus has to earn his spot in rounds 1 & 2 as opposed to having guaranteed to him... which is what appears would happen

Just on the LTIL - could they extend Pettifers stay there if they wanted too?

You probably could as Petts isn't playing in any matches yet but it would have to be for another 8 weeks minimum at least.

The rookie promotion deadline was 2pm today so we should know very soon if Browne has been promoted off the rookie list.

I think that's if there is a spare spot on the senior list to promote a rookie into.  There is no deadline for promoting a rookie following a player being moved to the LTIL.

Ta TT for clearing that up.

The Blues have promoted ruckman Sam Jacobs as well as utility Aaron Joseph. Maybe a clue to who will play against us.

The Hawks have promoted forward Cameron Stokes.
