7news just reported that the AFL originally took $2m from us, Hawthorn, Collingwood & West Coast to create an $8 million covid contingency fund.
The AFL didn't need to use any of the $8m in the end but instead of giving us and the other three big clubs the money back, the AFL distributed the money between all 18 clubs ($444,444 each).
So, our AFL distribution this year was ~$1.6 million less while 14 other clubs got $444k more.
:thumbsdown.

This is dead set effing corruption

The AFL makes more than enough money to prop up the clubs that need it. They should never force other clubs to do so and I’d say the same if we were on the other side of things.
-
The pretend socialist politicians at work again, they think they are Robins Hoods when genuine football matters is what they should stick too and leave the social policy with the governments that was voted in .
Does this tax give us any allowances , I bet it doesn’t

I used to hate the AFL. I still do, but I used to as well.

Beyond laughable what other clubs in the world in any sport have to support it's opponents financially with the sporting body making enough money the afl that's there job then they have the dignity to come out parading the billion foliar TV deal bs.

I would think the 4 clubs would've been in the circumstances at the time accepting of the money being put towards a covid contingency fund. However, I'd doubt they would've been accepting of it if they knew in advance the money would end up being used to aid opposition clubs while undercutting themselves. We know at Richmond, tough decisions were made and good people were let go in 2020 to keep the Club and the League afloat. It wasn't as though the covid cuts had nil effect on our finances and staff numbers. Unethical to not give the money back :thumbsdown.
