Title: Tennis [merged]
Post by: froars on June 26, 2004, 03:27:33 PM
Just watching the Goran v Lleyton replay.
I know just enough Yugoslav to hear something he said that was unrepeatable lol
And got away with it apparently  ;D

That old trick  ;D. I like the big Croat as doesn't take himself too seriously.

Good on Hewitt and the Poo. Go Aussies!  :).

Goran is a legend. Never was a fan of his style of game, but I would often watch his matches for the sheer entertainment value they offered. Never a dull moment with this guy. lmfaooooo@slavs being the funniest and most psycho people, good on em!

It was good to see for one last time all his antics like headbutting the tennis ball, talking to himself, talking to the crowd, talking to the camera men, talking to God, being superstitious about the balls and requesting the ball back after winning a point with it, lmfaooo!!!

lmfaooooo@him getting boo-ed and then finally cheered when he put on a croatian soccer top on after the match. lmfaoooooo@getting English people to clap for croatian soccer. Only Goran could do it.

In Goran's post-match interview he said that when two girls yelled out "we love you goran!" he went and won the next two points. He then said a bloke yelled out the same thing, and then he proceeded to lose the match. LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I'm glad he won Wimbledon after making three unsuccesful attempts in the final. Tragedy for Rafter, but at least he had won 2 grand slams already.

Well done to Rocky Hewitt for taking him out in such an awesome way. Showed great sportsmanship after the match to tell Goran it was an honour to be on the same court as him and that he was a great champion. Hewitt then went to his seat and packed his bags and let Goran have all the applause. Great stuff.

Moya next for Hewitt, and then Federer. Tough ask, but if anyone can do it, Rocky can.

Hewitt's through :). Scud's looking dodgy though. No big serve = no scud :(.

Title: Re: Goran
Post by: JohnF on June 30, 2004, 01:43:26 AM
Scud got hard done-by on a couple line calls, but his first two sets were terrible and he didn't deserve to win either of them. Was playing well in the end, but too little too late.

If Hewitt gets through tomorrow night he's a big chance for the title. I think he'll lose in 3 or 4 sets though; Federer looks in rediculously good form. But you can never count Hewitt out when he is motivated.

Just thought I'd start a thread on it. Anyone give a stuff about this game? Anyone planning to go?

Interesting to see Moya just got done in the first round.

Should everyone just bend over right now and take their Federer medicine?

The highlight for me would have been seeing the poo do a Sally Robbins but since he's out, as BB King would say..."The thrill is gone..."
It might be fun to see Federer aka "Mr Perfect" blow a tennis shoe and hurtle in an uncontrolled manner straight into the concrete wall ala Ayrton Senna and the Tamburello.

In fact tennis needs a bit of colour.
Here are some of my suggestions to bring back a bit of excitement.

1. Employ Tony Liberatore and Peter Filandia as ballboys.

2. Electrify the net

3. Have one of those crowd dissatisfaction bore-o-meters like on 30 seconds to fame where if it hits red a pack of pitbulls are released onto the court that haven't been fed in a week.

4. Allow the players to give the umpire a chinese burn if he makes a stupid call without receiving a court voilation.

5. Allow all Tennis player stalkers front row centre court seats.

6. Replace players electrolyte supplement drinks with Kava. "Hey man that ball looks like the moon and my tongue is all tingly"

7. At the end of each set, the loser has to eat raw buffalo testicles ala Fear factor. If he pukes refer to suggestion 3

Don't mind the game Missy, though sometimes it gets monotonous and is a bit slow paced. The good matches in the sport are still worth watching.

ROFLFMAOOOoo@your suggestions tiga. ROFLMFAO especially at electrifying the net and releasing the pitbulls.

I think the game would also benefit from each crowd entrant getting a water balloon that they get to launch at the players at some point during the game. Make that a couple of water balloons for ladies matches. :thumbsup

BK, maybe they should also raise the height of the poles that hold up the net to make the perfect accessory for a girl wearing a g-string and stilettos.  ;D

Another thought I had was to liven things up a bit when someone mimmics cyclops, a band of bloodthirsty vikings come down the aisle and lop their head off with a battle axe! I'd like to see them try and whistle after that!

Ox have you gone to the tennis yet? Or are you one of those rich priks that get to see the finals?

My assessments thus far:

1. Federer has it in the bag.
2. Hewitt is good value and is a hell of a fighter.
3. Molik can win the tournament which would be a laugh if she does becuase we haven't had a female within a bull's roar of a chance for the last 20 years.
4. Myskina strikes me as the type of chick you could go any which way in bed.

Only Hewitt left now. Not much of a tennis fan but when I do watch the Aussies play they would have to be the worst at getting their first serves in for such a "major" tennis nation.

I went to the tennis last week - love the tennis.

I am not a great fan of Hewitt's but I have always admired his great patroitism - especially regarding the Davis Cup. I didn't all of last nights match because (and I have to say it) I found it boring. Nalbandian plays boring tennis - no flare and Hewitt well he's a scrambler but not a flashy player either. If it's 11.00pm I want some flare - that's why I am looking forward to Safin -v- Federer. :bow

If Safin's got his head together - he is a real show against Federer, if he hasn't .......................... who knows but at least we might get to see a racquet get smashed

LMAO at Hewitt, Roddick and Safin thinking they've got a chance to win the Oz open.  They'll be lucky to get a set off Roger.  Federer made Aggassi look like an amatuer and will do likewise to Safin and whoever he plays in the final.  I just wanna see Safin break a few racquets - he's top value that bloke and more players should be like him.  Also it was great seeing Hewitt and Nalbandian almost getting into a scuffle.  Tennis needs more incidents like this along with that spitting one.  It breaks the boredom of those 5 setters.

Hewitt has one of those rare personalities that are just demented with desire to win. Jeff Fenech also had it. So did Paul Kelly.

Love watching these rare breed of psychotics go about their business. Inspiring.

And to make it the perfect night - Safin smashed a racquet as well :bow

Seriously Safin played very well and surprisingly got inside Federer's head and he cracked. Normally Federer is ice cool not in this match he got really frustrated - hell even Federer threw his racquet. It was a great match :thumbsup

Well done Marat.

lmfaooo! Great match. I think Safin would have killed himself if he didn't end up winning that match after choking on all those match points in the 5th set.

This Australian Open has been pretty good I reckon compared to recent grandslams and we still have some possible great matches to come.

Expect Hewitt to get dumped in 3 sets tonight (he has gone to the well too many times) but Roddick v Safin should be a great match. Can't see it going anything less than 5 sets. Safin has slayed the king so good luck to him taking out the tournament. He deserves it.
Title: Re: ROFLM Australian Open
Post by: Harry on January 28, 2005, 04:15:14 PM
Yeah - I don't give Hewitt much chance against Roddick - he's too spent.  If he can get up then it'll be a massive effort.  Roddick/Hewitt would have been rubbing their hands together when Safin won because had it been Roger in the final, they would need to play above themselves to beat him.  This way the self-detructive Safin might turn up and shoot himself in the final.

I just wanna see more racquets broken lol.
Title: Re: ROFLM Australian Open
Post by: JohnF on January 28, 2005, 04:23:37 PM
LOL. Safin's a funny idiot. He walks around like a zombie for pretty much the whole match with a slack jaw and then he just snaps out of nowhere. Also love how he talks to himself between first and second serves. he served pretty well last night.

Oh and Fwoy, that avatar is an absolute crack up mate. ROFLFMFLMFLFMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally we are getting the tennis live at 6.30pm tonight.  The reasoning for delayed telecasts earlier in the week was because of Today Tonight and Home&Away but the stupid thing was with the afternoon games going on longer, the news was on later and generally we missed these two shows anyway as they would go back to the tennis after the news.  Doh!

What the heck are you on Life?  If you read the thread properly I had been complaining about a delayed telecast and then complained about Channel 7's reasoning for delaying it which didn't stick as the shows they were delaying it for didn't end up getting shown.  My liking or disliking of Home&Away wasn't mentioned.  ???

You guys don't have a romantic bone in your body.  I think it is all sweet - better Bec than Princess Fiona (now that was really funny).  Maybe it is true love.  I went out with my husband 3 months after splitting up with his flatmate.  Two weeks after we started going out we were making wedding plans (I just had to get my long planned o/s trip out of the way first).  Fifteen and a half years, 2 kids, 3 cats and 9 fish later and we are still together.  I hope, for their sakes, it all works out.

Federer has looked a little vulnerable this tournament, he's not as solid as he was last year.

Having said that Hewitt always brings the best out of him and I expect a comfortable 3 set drubbing for Hewitt.

Hewitt has played fairly well considering how underdone he is. Playing patchy tennis but his competitive spirit is stil as good as ever.

Federer v Roddick final for mine.

Gotta say I love the tennis. Go every year - love it

But............

Is it just me or are some of the men's matches this year really boring? The blokes themselves seem bored

I was watching Nalbandian (sp?) last night and his play was just boooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring. The crowd seemed really bored

The night before - Mark Flip - seemed bored, Hewiit seemed at times bored - are they all bored ??? :nopity

and btw....

My selections

Womens Winner - Henin-Hardene (best back hand in tennis) :clapping

Mens Winner - Roger what his name ;D - no Safin this year mean it's Roger's  :thumbsup

In the second set Martina's return of service was breath taking, Clijsters, not about to take it laying down reversed the trend in the deciding third set delighting the crowd with some more cunning shot selection.

Clijsters post match comments about victory never tasting so sweet was a nice complement for her opponent, she also added that Hingis's break from the sport had probably freshened her up.

A spent Martina Hingis said it was great to be again doing what she loves, under lights in front of a big crowd and that the tennis was fun also.

What’s the go with Rodger Federer?  I know bugger all about tennis but it was my understanding that as a players ranking climbed likewise the standard of babe they had in toe.

I thought it to be a good system particularly in that as the career stalled and the rating fell the babe barometer didn’t necessarily follow, eg the Poo.  Early exits from competitions mean more opportunity poolside at exclusive resorts where the female offspring of trophy wives await collection.  The No Dogs Allowed signs are obeyed.

I feel for Rodger, he wins the point then the TV cameras pan the crowd pausing briefly on his coach, conditioners and as the commentators rarely fail to add, “Long time partner”.
“Long time partner” as if the words confer some kind of blessing on the pair.  He couldn't have a sight defect could he?

If we the tennis public are expected to watch Federer dominate our screens for two weeks he owes it to us to supply the highest standard eye candy possible, currently he’s coming up short.  No disrespect to his LTP I'm sure she's a loverly person but it's horses for courses at this level.

My tip to him is to make 2006 the year of the early exit, get your rating back to the mid 100’s the resort lifestyle will do you good, the LTP will have to lift her game to even get in the gate.

Not the biggest tennis fan in the world, but if anyone can get me to watch tennis it’s Roger Federer.

The 2005 Aus Open featured some of the best men’s matches and it was a shame Safin wasn’t there again this year.  Didn’t take as much interest in this year’s Open, but you have to hand it to Federer.  The consummate professional, on and off the court.

In that 3rd set, Bhagdatis seemed rushed in everything he did and looked as though he had run a marathon, as Federer ran him all over the court.  At the same time, Federer seemed to play shots almost without moving and was as cool as ever.

Was good to see Federer show some emotion after the match, which was totally unexpected.  I thought he would just go up there and receive yet another trophy, you know, no big deal.  But he seemed totally overwhelmed by the whole thing and to see the emotion afterwards shows just how cool he is under pressure, because you would never have guessed what was bubbling underneath the surface of that oh so cool exterior.

You can never get tired of watching such a Master of his craft. :bow :bow :bow

I have played tennis since i was about 9 years old and also coached for a while,

Roger Federer is going to be the greatest player to have ever played the game in my opinion.

He has such an awesome array of shots and will continue to improve with Tony Roche who is the master.

Federer has such an all round game that he is nearly impossible to get on top of.

Even when he does drop a set, he normally comes out and wins the next one 6-0 or 6-1.

Enjoy this Champion while he makes history.

I used to be a fan bit he has totally lost me lately, especially his excuse for losing last week in Sydney to the Guch. Blaming the umpires is no excuse, if he isnt good enough atleast be graceful in defeat and acknowledge that he wasnt the better player.

Marcos proved he is a man, he has stuck up for himself and his beliefs and his country which is currently illegally occupied by scum Turkish military, he also stated facts about the Macedonian question. He has shown honor and courage. He is a proud hellene who will not succumb to scum Anglo Saxon media.

Australia as a nation is being slagged in European media today. In newspapers and on radio the policies of Australian police and the whole issue is being talked about. Australia is losing out of this, not Baghdatis- Baghdatis will be a national hero in Cyprus and Greece. On the otherhand the Australian media is showing itself to be racist, the Police spray and run job has been shown on most if not all major European media. Today there is rumour that Marcos has been denied his game allocation of 8 tickets, if this is true then that will also make its way into the European media.

Finally I was aware of the party but never attended at the time

PS- The coppers and the media are calling Greeks racists, on MONDAY there will be a big story - according to my sources, it will show the hypocrisy of this all. The Greeks as always- kept some Aces up there sleeve.

No one cares or wants to hear about petty Balkan squabbles though Ramps whether it be Turk, Greek, Serb, Croat or whatever. WW1 was a result of this stupidity so "Anglo-Saxons" whose ancestors fought and died on the beaches and in the trenches couldn't give a stuff. It's not our problem and each excuse for it is really just another saga in a hatred that has been going on for centuries. Same goes for the Middle East. Also the police and media didn't post the video on Youtube (albeit it was a year ago). Some "mate" has got Baghdatis into trouble by doing it. After the troubles with Croat and Serb yobbos last year the police aren't going to put up with a bunch of yobbos this year whoever they are. The media to sell a story has put them together.

A member of the HFC rang up SEN and did say Baghdatis didn't receive his 8 tickets for tonight (which he gives to the HFC).

The worst thing out of this for Greeks in Melbourne isn't with the Tennis. It'll be with Soccer. I'm sure the FFA with their anti-ethnic policy is watching this closely.

My attack is not on Anglo Saxons its on the Anglo Saxon Media and the Turkish military. I hope you didnt think I was attacking good working honest Aussies just trying to do there best.

As for the soccer, its been a good result for South. Up and until this week everyone thought HFC was a part of South Melbourne, South has been excellent this week, they slagged the HFC and its leadership, they distanced themselves completely from HFC and if theres ever any problem in the future South will point to this week, to the media articles and documentation thats flying around the place where South Melbourne publically caned the HFC... and say it has nothing to do with us. Its a good result for South.

The media are concerned only about selling a story and making $$$ from every paper sold or tv ratings gained. They couldn't care less about the Race involved (Cronulla rioters didn't get sympathy from the media). They're big businesses. It's about making big bucks. Stosur's got through as well. She's really Australia's only hope to get past the 3rd round.

There's all this talk about our cricket side and lack of quality international talent coming through but Aussie Tennis is in far more dire need. If Tomic doesn't develop into a top player then there's really no one else on the men's side.

Just got home and saw Tomic ahead 4-0 in the second set against Nadal  :o. Back to 5-5 now and Nadal back on top as you'd expect. With Stosur gone it'll be no more Aussies after 3 rounds which is sadly all too common these days and shows the mess Aussie Tennis is in.

It's more they aren't just good enough and talented enough to match it against the top players of the world. Tomic at least is pushing Nadal even though he isn't strong enough to go with him. The scoreboard isn't showing Nadal's serve going to deuce often. Points won has been fairly even since the second set. Tomic doesn't have to guns yet to make the most of his chances yet. Hopefully that will come with more experience and physical development as he matures.

Nadal might not be having a great night with his serve.
But Tomic is really taking it to him which is great to see. Hopefully one of our tennis players can come along in the next few years for the sack of tennis australia having a poster champion they can advertise with.

Hewitt is a a real champion if you ask me. Good family man and on the field never gives up. I could never understand the angst against him.

That pretender spud Poo should look up to people like Hewitt.

As for Tomic i dont think he will do all that much. When he starts getting into slams on his own accord, regulary, not through wildcards then il start paying attention.

With a Domic style father lurking in the background, threatening to take him back to "his home", forgive me if i couldnt give a rats about him or his family. People who parade around with those threats should be thrown on a boat and sent back

Scud was awesome when he made 2 slam finals but all those attempts since undone the good work he did. He is the John Farnham of the tennis circuit. In his defence he played for the country and never once shied away from that like these other tossers.

i used to dislike him Tucker at the beginning, but in all honestly he is a ripper guy from what i see. Plays for his country never gives up and a very respectable family man. Whats wrong with playing on. How many years did we put up with Fabrice Santoro and Moya roam the circuit.

Others like Tomic and co could do a lot worse than look at the way he portrays himself, instead they take pot shots from the cheap seats which reeks of jealousy and immaturity. Scud for all his faults played for the country all the time and was a true champ in that regard.

Title: Re: Tennis [merged]

Game has past him Dan. Body is giving up on him too.
I guess he can just earn some extra cash on the circuit and will always have a guaranteed entry in the Grand Slams bar the French. He may have a one last crack and make a quarter or a semi somewhere but his time is up.

Yep Moya Brugiers who won 2 French Opens and co played the clay circuit for years and the slower rebound ace type of courts but yeah they made their cash too and went slowly as well.

IMHO he is getting serious injuries now and he needs to hang the racquet up sooner rather than later.

Have to say have never liked watching him play because of the way he carries on on court.

But I have always admired the fact he is always available for Davis Cup and representint his country. It comes first with him and that's a wonderful attribute.

Unlike, one Sam Stosur who made herself unavailable for the most important Fed Cup tie in 3 years because she needed to get ready for te French Open and we all know how that turned out

Also, as I mentioned before his fighting spirit and guts should never be questioned. If all Aussie playes (male & female) had the same desire and guts they'd be more sucessful (are you reading this Sam "I'm stunned I lost that" Stosur)

Bad luck to Tomic. He lost in 4-sets but he showed he has the power and range of shots capable of matching it with the best. You could see Djorkovic at the end was relieved to get away with that one (great sportsmanship too btw). Tomic hitting a mental and/or physical wall in the 3rd set when he was a break up at 3-1 & one-set-all and then lapsing badly for the next 20 minutes cost him the match. Something for Tomic to learn from.

Sounds like a normal day on court for young Bernard  ;D

Seriously, though I didn't expect him to make it through to week 2 but thought he'd at least win round one.

I have to agree with rogerd3; he isn't mentally tough but not only that he has a very limited game style. Even when he is "switched on" his movement around the court is poor and his game is very one dimensional.

What he really needs to do (which he wont) is get a new (decent) coach who will challenge him and flick his old man
Title: Re: Tennis [merged]
Post by: mightytiges on June 27, 2012, 11:28:31 PM
Tomic has the talent to have won easily last night but his poor attitude caused his own demise. The 2nd game of the 2nd set he was 40/30 on serve and all he had to do was get the ball over the net with a normal ground stroke to hold serve. Instead he tried some dicky low % too cute drop shot that hit the net and then lost his serve. It summed up how he played the match. You're right WP about him needing a real proper coach. Hopefully the talk within Tennis Australia tonight about replacing his father with a decent coach happens for Bernard's sake.

Stosur's match isn't going to plan either. Looked just as flat as Tomic did in the first set making a stack of unforced errors before turning it on in the second 6-0. Now it looks like Sam is back into first set mode down a break.

I agree. They definitely need to review the way they are bringing talent through from the youth. Seem's like alot of past Tennis greats are speaking up about it as well.

Quote
WITH every Australian eliminated from the men's and women's singles at Wimbledon, Australian tennis is officially in crisis.
That is the view of four-time doubles grand slam winner Paul McNamee, who is hardly shocked at the nation's performance at the All England club, saying the results are the fruits of continued mismanagement by Tennis Australia.

McNamee says Tennis Australia has too eagerly funnelled young prospects into its own system rather than allowed them to work on their game with their own coaches.
''We had a lot of very good juniors over a long period of time now, but we haven't been able to 'transition' the juniors into successful senior players, and I believe it's because we haven't had the right philosophy to coaching. Tennis Australia takes kids away from their own coaches and effectively imposes coaches and there's a little bit of a merry-go-round.
''For example, Matt Ebden, who lost [in the first round], I've seen him with three different coaches already this year. I really think we have to go back to when we were great … You need to have a mentor one on one, and you need to bring them through the transition period from juniors to seniors.''

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/tennis/one-player-three-coaches--mcnamee-points-finger-at-tennis-australia-and-its-mismanagement-of-juniors-program-20120627-212y0.html

Quote
TENNIS legend Margaret Court says our parlous position in world tennis is the result of Tennis Australia ripping talent away from junior coaches.

Court, a 24-time grand slam champion, said Tennis Australia put too much stock in placing talented juniors in large squads and was dulling its brightest prospects by making coaching less personal.

"I think they're taking them too early," Court said.

"You throw children, little kids at 13 into a squad, I believe that's where you lose them. They take them off (their coaches) so early and you never see them again.

"If I look at my coaches, they sewed their life into me.

"You wonder why the people don't stay in the game so long, it becomes like from such an early age they're so focused, they're like robots."

Tomic has the talent to have won easily last night but his poor attitude caused his own demise.

Have never questioned Tomic's talent. Has the talent but he needs more that that IMO

I question his mental application, his want to be successful, his willingness to work and the way he plays. He is constantly flat footed, unwilling to chase down balls, and his game is as I said one dimensional.

His talent is not the issue what is between his ears is. That and his old man who is in his ear  ;D

Most definitely far from a tennis fan, but they were talking about the Aussies getting smashed on the radio (MMM) this morning and yesterday morning. I can't see if it has been mentioned here recently or not, but they were saying a big problem at the moment when it comes to Wimbledon for example, is that our kids aren't playing on grass courts any more. All the new courts going up in schools to training complexes are all synthetic or clay.

Nice theory, but doesn't seem to affect those that grow up on clay in Europe or hardcourts in the States.

And the 'losing best athletes to footy codes' is another bullcrap theory.

Why? Reaching a critical mass in terms of elite junior numbers gives a sport more of a chance to find stars. It's why all of the footy codes pour $$$ into junior development and attracting the best junior athletes.

Stosur 5-2 up in the last and then loses 5 games straight including 3 service games  :P. The problem is she continually goes into lollipop mode and just hits nothing balls back instead of dictating the game once she gets into a winning position.

Yep greatest choke in the History of women's tennis daniel. 1993 Wimbledon had Steffi Graf down for the count serving for the match and choked losing in 3 sets

Stosur's problem isn't all the grand slams because she won the 2nd slam final she played in against arguably the best female player of all time in Serena Williams

Her problem is playing here at home - for whatever reason she cannot cope with the expectations placed on her, which creates the pressue she puts herself

Actually feel sorry for her, can't see it ever getting better for her here at home now

Bought on by her tyrant of a father. The "vendetta" theory was alleged by her father. He controlled every aspect of her life.

BTW one of the reasons she stayed under his control for so long was to protect her much younger brother. While Damir could abuse her he left her little brother alone.

It wasn't until she was in her 20's, yes 20's she had the courage to get away from the lunatic.

Would really pay for you to get a hold of an interview her mother (who finally left the abusive moron after more than 20 years of fear and returned to Aust) gave about 5 years ago. You might get a better understanding of what it was like living with good old Damir. Then again you probably wont because it would defeat your argument

And BTW she has apologised to Aust and the tennis public for what she did & what happened.

I remember reading about a speaking engagement in Australia she did late last year where she explained everything and it left people in the room stunned, shocked and with a greater respect for what she's been through. Think for memory Todd Woodbridge was the one who spoke of it

His dad is actually a decent bloke.

I worked at the Prince Albert Hotel in Williamstown and his dad would come in from time to time. Would buy himself a soft drink, have a chat with a few locals and shout the bar, then walk out.

On more than one occasion we also crossed paths when I was walking my German Shepherd. Nick would pull out his tennis racquet and hit balls for the dog for a while.

In all my dealings he was genuine.

Scud is still a flog.

You keep saying she was old enough to leave. I'd say she stayed to protect those who couldn't protect themselves and paid in a way neither of us could imagine.

Yes they are speaking terms now so she can have contact with her brother. Is that a crime?

::) Sorry where did I say he was spoilt? No need to tell someone to "wake up" especially when you're the one just putting words in peoples mouths. I said he was a twit and I keep that opinion of him until he shows a different attitude on the court. Yelling at spectators, hitting balls out of the arena, smashing racquets and continually swearing makes him come across as a twit.

sorry about that your right you didnt say brat, that was in reference to hewitt in the message before.

That being said i don't agree at all kyrigos being a twit

He yelled at the spectator because they were yelling out between serves if i remember. Do you blame him?

The fact he gifted a point was very sportsmanlike behavior. He shows passion, comes from a good family as others have mentioned and is an aussie.

Hope he sends that mummy boy brit packing tonight.

No I was referring to him yelling at what was supposedly the supporter on their phone but I have now read was an official on his team. I'm not sure which is true so I'll give him benefit of the doubt. But he can't deny that he was yelling at people in the crowd who were leaving in an arrogant fashion

I don't believe him being Aussie allows him to avoid criticism. Yes I want him to win as an Aussie but doesn't mean I have to like him and not call out on what I believe is arrogant behaviour.

yes he will WP, hard to see him not winning a slam but gee he has fair competition.

fair enough yeahright. If guys like kyrios and others get kids involved in tennis its a good thing without the swearing of course.

Perhaps WP is onto something and he was allowed a bit of freedom and should have been warned earlier in the tournament.

Bloke is acting like a flog. Heard someone compare him to hewitt yesterday and I nearly fell off the chair

Scary thing is Lleyton Hewitt has taken on being his mentor starting this tournement

Poor Lleyton has his work cut out and/or a helluva lot of work to do

Even when Lleyton was Nick's age and he was at times at a brat on the court with his carry on he never, ever made comments like that.

Ditto the greatest tennis brat in history JP McEnroe didn't stoop to such crass gutter insults

Thought it was pretty funny. poo like that would be acceptable on the footy field so why not the tennis court?  :lol

It's pathetic on a number of level. It was crass, disgusting and gutless

The big issue is he has dragged a young woman into it; who had nothing to do (directly) with the match that was being played and thrown induendo her way. Some of the subsequent posts on here actually highlight that. He wants to sledge his opponent go ahead but don't basically imply your opponents partner/wife/girlfriend is a whore, which is what he did

Then the creep was too gutless to use himself in his sledge he had to drag his "mate" into it by using his name

I wonder if you or anyone would think it was funny if it was your partner, your mother or your daughter he was talking about

Actually wonder how dopey Nick would feel if another player said something similar about his mother...

As expected outside your first sentence actually not making any sense; you've  missed my entire point

"Maybe that's why he said it?" That makes it acceptable does it; your way of justifying it?

So I take it if someone said the same thing about your mother/sister/girlfriend on international TV you'd have no problem with. You'd tell dopey Nick "it's all sweet, get's said all the time, don't worry about it?

Every heard of the term "walking a mile in someone else's shoes?" Suggest if at all possible you consider that and then perhaps you'd get my point...but then again  :whistle

The thing is about Kyrgios he and his camp consistently say no one was perfect at 20, and while that is true in not sure many 20 yr olds consistently embarrass their country on a weekly basis.

Il say this though  he is not a boring tennis player and will bring a few more people to the tennis than turn them off the sport

Justin Quill: Nick Kyrgios an embarrassment, not an Olympian

Selfish Nick Kyrgios is the poster boy for the argument that sportspeople should pay back the money splurged on them through AIS scholarships – just like a HECS debt.

I’ve never been a fan of Kyrgios, but after he pulled out of the Australian Olympic team – again – I am totally and utterly off him.

I consider Kyrgios a disgrace and an embarrassment to Australia. Frankly, I wish we could ban him from competing under the Australian flag.

I hope Tennis Australia has finally learnt its lesson that this selfish leopard will never change his spots and ban him from competing for Australia in events like the Davis Cup. Kyrgios is not deserving of our green and gold.

When Kyrgios threw his dummy out of the cot in 2016, he did so because of what he called the “AOC’s unfair and unjust treatment of me”. It seems he wanted the red carpet and the then chef De mission – Kitty Chiller – didn’t roll it out for him.

But Kyrgios said at the time, “representing Australia at the Olympic Games has been a dream of mine since I was a kid”.

Kyrgios hasn’t got any idea of what an Olympic dream really is. It’s the thing that has driven countless athletes over decades to strive for excellence hour after hour and day after day – usually for no money and little adulation.

He doesn’t seem to have the character or courage to even understand those concepts, let alone implement them.

It was galling to read him use the words Olympic dream in 2016.

Fast forward five years and his statement on Friday read, “It’s been my dream to represent Australia at the Olympics”.

Empty words.

Sorry, Nick – if it were really your “dream”, you wouldn’t have thrown it away. Twice. You would have worked as hard as you could to attain it and done everything possible in your power to be there.

That’s what having an Olympic dream means. You disrespect every person who’s ever had an Olympic dream.

The Olympics only come around every four years. It’s not like footy or tennis, where you can have another crack next week.

Kyrgios is the poster boy for the argument that our sportspeople should have to pay back the money spent on them through their AIS scholarships – just like a HECS debt.

He will never be able to call himself an “Olympian” and he doesn’t deserve to.

Kyrgios cited as reasons for pulling out both the fact no fans would be in the stadium and his recent injury. Neither excuse cuts the mustard.

Every competitor would prefer crowds at the Olympics. But a real Olympian wouldn’t use the lack of crowds as a reason not to compete.

I trained for more than 10 years for a spot on the Australian Olympic team. I did absolutely everything I could to make it. I failed. And it’s dogged me ever since.

But I can tell you, I would have competed in the Arctic Circle with no crowds or television coverage if that’s what it took to be an Olympian.

What about the injury? Normally I’d have great sympathy for injured athletes. Especially ones with “Olympic dreams”.

But Kyrgios’ injury shouldn’t surprise us.

He did at Wimbledon what he has done at so many tournaments – turned up without a coach and without any proper conditioning. It’s no wonder he injured himself.

As soon as he played his first five-set match I knew he wouldn’t be able to last the tournament. He just hadn’t done the work. So don’t feel any sympathy for his injury.

Kyrgios’ statement announcing he was letting his country down again coincided with Ash Barty’s magnificent performance in making a Wimbledon final. What a contrast. It’s like comparing Princess Leia with Darth Vader.

Barty is such a wonderful representative and role model for Australia and its Indigenous community. Barty works hard, competes fair and speaks humbly. She is everything Kyrgios is not.

And it’s no coincidence she has one – and hopefully soon two – Grand Slams to her name while he has none. Kyrgios on the other hand said this month he didn’t care about winning Grand Slams.

He said, “I know that’s going to make a lot of people angry. He should be doing this. But I shouldn’t, though. It’s not your life, it’s mine. I’m OK with just enjoying myself, putting on a show.”

People seemed to relate to that – perhaps because we now live in a “you can do anything you want” world. Frankly, I just don’t like seeing people waste their talent.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Kyrgios is a bad person. He showed genuine empathy during the 2019 bushfires.

I also suspect he would be entertaining to have a beer with – not that he would want to have one with me.

I think he’ll live to regret his attitude, but he’s right, he’s entitled to not care about Grand Slams. Equally, I’m entitled to think he is an embarrassment to our sporting pride.

Kyrgios shouldn’t let our country down by signing up for the Olympic team and then pulling out — twice. Especially when accompanying it with what seemed to me to be the empty words of his statement.

He will eventually retire and drift off into irrelevancy. For me, that day can’t come soon enough.

Where are you sitting WP? I’m taking my daughter and paid a fair bit.

AO are fair though as my ticket never changed price even with the new release. If it had I would have flipped it.

I saw tickets released yesterday for $195 for about 5 mins then it jumped to $320 as the cheapest though I wouldn’t have sit that far away. For others who just want to be there, I thought it was great value and we get the big doubles final after as the added bonus.

Great fightback after being two breaks down in the second to win the match in straight sets  :bow.

Where's Cotch to present the trophy?  ;D

Thrilled.

Got anxious at 1-5 second set, went for a dump+shower, came back and she was serving for the tie breaker haha.

What a legend. The American lass spoke very well, what a sweetheart, and she certainly had a go tonight so good on her.

WP Did you stay for the doubles?
Title: Re: Tennis [merged]

I watched most of the first set of the doubles.

Was more entertained than usual. Kok and Kyrgios really play well together and have great chemistry from their long-term friendship I suppose.

As for Kyrgios himself, a knob he may be but there definitely is a showman/entertainer about him. I am conflicted between what I consider poor sportsmanship and good viewership. Sports is always the most interesting when you have the right personalities (think Senna vs Prost for example). Kyrgios is very talented for sure, it really does seem a waste but it's his life I guess. The rest of us can only wish we were born with some of those genetics.

WP Did you stay for the doubles?

Stayed for part of the 1st set

But once the "special K" supporters started yelling some incredibly vile stuff we left.

Not a Krygios fan at all.

Great price well worth it. Was that you with the tigers flag WP? Haha love it

Fair enough we stayed till the end. Captain Cotch also shares the same view, as he also didn’t appear again after the Barty win.

Those double boys have grown on me, which I didn’t think would happen with one of them, and I have enjoyed their progress. On that crowd it was a few drunken losers and Nick called for them
to be kicked out, and they were.

Ash is a champion thats all. It is no coincidence that she is a tiger tragic who happens to be great mates with cotch. Seems like they all speak the same language about connection, team etc

Great night glad we were there.

Same glad we were there. It will become one of "I was there moments"

Ben Crowe is also another link to the RFC. Ash uses him and he's heavily involved at the RFC with our leadership program

Re the men's doubles; it was more than a few drunken losers. As I posted before some of the comments yelled out were vile.

And although Nick called it out (obviously in the 2nd set) neither he or Thanasi did anything about it in the first or in their earlier matches. They actually encouraged someone the boorish behaviour. I get that they will say they didn't but by doing nothing they encouraged it. But congratulations to them on winning

But they don't come remotely close the class of Ash Barty. What a champion she is  :clapping

Well worth every cent. The way I see it we have hardly been out the last few years, so what better way to splash out.

Bloody legend she is, and she stands alone at the moment.

On a sour note did you see the clown bagging her for having a beer?

This coming from someone who didn’t have a beer in the lead up? That clowns comment is what is wrong with society these days. Knocking a legend is as low as you get.

At Wimbledon now for day one.

Another great day, despite lining up in the queue for 7 hours, because some lefty greeny activists threatened to bombard the stadium to stand against oil use or some crap. I suspect the same losers as the first test.

Watched Thompson win in 5 which was great.

Slept on the footpath over night for tickets. Met great people that I remained in contact with until the passed away.
