AT LAST it looks like they've recruited better. Putting Brett Deledio to half-back was a great move, just as Robert Shaw did with Andrew McLeod at Adelaide. Their tall backs aren't as tall as you'd want them to be and they need more players to emerge

I'm happy with the captain Chris Newman and even though they're second last, the fans would be happier than when they were ninth.

They showed an interesting stat on TAC Cup future stars showing Collingwood only had 6 players and Geelong 8 players taller than 196cm. Port had something like 15 which they were saying was overkill and list clogging. A height of 6' 2" to 6' 4" seems to be more in fashion these days than the big monsters unless they are ruckmen.

Problem with our back talls is we get no variety out of them, all pretty much spoilers with Moore slightly more adept at taking the smaller forward. Compare/contrast with .e.g Leppitsch/Michael/Darryl White who could take a range of defensive assignments. OK I've chosen one of the better defensive units of recent times, but the lack of flexibility is a real problem.

Plus their disposal is awful under pressure.

I rate Sheedy's year as a 3.5 / 10

He is still persisting with ghost writing and his originality has wained to the extent of boredom.

Yep, spot on Jake.  None of them came on at all this year and as you say, Moore is probably the most versatile.  McGuane doesn't mind providing a bit of run but each time the ball is in his hands it becomes 'heart-in-mouth' stuff because he has that innate ability to turn no pressure into pressure.

Astbury is beautiful by foot. It doesn't matter if 2 of the 6 backmen are spoilers when the remaining 4 are quick and beautiful users of the ball. It would be nice to have a backline with all tall players who can play short and tall and are quick with great desposal skills but let be realistic, this is a pipe dream unless we ignore the rest of the ground.
