yeah that's the plan - let's hope no-one picks him up before we do

Struth on this occassion you'd think the AFL could have given us dispensation to put him down on the rookie list seeing they've change the mature age rookie rules without having to de-list him ....

What's the likes of Damien Barrett gonna write about now  ;D

Graham Polak delisted by Richmond, who retain option of redrafting him as mature-aged rookie

RICHMOND today delisted accident victim Graham Polak but still has the option of redrafting him as a mature-aged rookie.

As revealed exclusively in the Herald Sun, the Tigers have had to delist Polak before they consider making him a rookie.

It will give rival clubs the chance to swoop on Polak, who made a remarkable recovery after being hit by a tram in late June last year.

But it is likely Polak will again be at Punt Road next year under new rules which allow rookies to be drafted regardless of their age or experience.

Richmond general manager of football, Craig Cameron, said yesterday the club was hopeful of keeping him around at the club.

"We will investigate the opportunity of offering Graham Polak a position on our rookie list through the 2009 Rookie Draft, but this will obviously not be confirmed until after the draft has taken place'', he said.

The club said a decision on Matthew Richardsons' playing future was expected to be made in the coming weeks.

Richmond has selections 3, 19, 35, 44, 51, 67, 72 and 83 in the 2009 National Draft, which will be held on Thursday, November 26.

The club also confirmed top-20 draft pick Adam Pattison had been delisted after failing to come on as a ruckman or forward.

Also delisted were Nathan Brown, Mark Coughlan, Cleve Hughes, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, Kayne Pettifer, Dean Putt and Jarrod Silvester.

Do we know anything about the rookie elevations yet?  Oops, edit, saw on the AFL site that Nahas and Browne have been elevated.

That's six talls gone from the list - gonna be interesting to see where we replace all those guys from.

Polak in limbo as Richmond axes nine players
By Jason Phelan 1:41 PM Fri 30 October, 2009

RICHMOND has delisted Graham Polak after he failed to convince the club he could make a regular contribution at AFL level next season.

Polak, 25, played the last two games of the season in his fight back from life-threatening injuries sustained in a June 2008 tram accident, but was one of nine players officially cut by the club on Friday ahead of the first list lodgment deadline.

Former first-round pick Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls has also been shown the door after just 13 games, while Cleve Hughes, Nathan Brown, Mark Coughlan, Kayne Pettifer, Adam Pattison, Dean Putt and Jarrod Silvester round out the cull.

Joel Bowden and Kane Johnson retired earlier in the year and Andrew Raines and Jay Schulz were traded out in a huge reshuffle at Punt Road ahead of Damien Hardwick's first year in charge.

Richmond general manager of football Craig Cameron said the club would attempt to take advantage of the AFL's new rules which would allow Polak to be added to the rookie list as a mature-age player.

"We will investigate the opportunity of offering Graham a position on our rookie list through the 2009 rookie draft," Cameron said. "But obviously this will not be confirmed until after the draft has taken place.

"We thank these players for the contributions they have made at Richmond and we wish them all the best for the future."

Small forward Robin Nahas and ruckman Andrew Browne have been elevated to the senior list after making their debuts in 2009.

Former Port Adelaide defender Mitchell Farmer joined the club during the recent exchange period.

Richmond now has selections three, 19, 35, 44, 51, 67, 72 and 83 in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft, which will be held on Thursday, November 26.

I think this is right. We'll have 7 National draft picks plus a PSD pick.

Out:

1 Veteran list: Bowden
11 Senior list:  Johnson, Brown, Coughlan, Raines, Schulz, Pettifer, JON, Pattison, Hughes, Putt, Polak
3 Rookie list: Silvester, Nahas (promoted), Browne (promoted)

In:
3 Senior list: Farmer, Nahas (promoted rookie), Browne (promoted rookie)
2 Rookie list: O'Reilly, Polak

So that leaves us with 8 senior list spots free and 3 rookie list spots free (4 rookie spots if Polak isn't redrafted)

National draft picks:  3, 19, 35, 44, 51, 67, 72

Preseason Draft: 2

Rookie Draft: 7, 24, 41, (58)

13 changes. Hardwick is the first Richmond coach in 25 years to understand what needs to be done to get Richmond back on top. 13 is a fantastic amount of change. Next year there will be more change and the final set of list cloggers will be out. Hardwick is off and running, he has made a very good start. Very pleased with the 13 number, 15 or 16 would have been better, especially if Tuck and McMahon and King had been cut, but alas, contracts are in place. They have 12 months to save themselves, which I doubt.

Firstly he keeps all the draft picks and doesnt resist the tempation to recruit other teams hacks through trade week then he delists 13 players.

He has started well and done exactly what the 2 previous fools failed to do.

Lets hope we dont finish 9th or 10th again so he doesnt get sucked in again with the top up mentality

Interesting to see if we really do redraft Polly as a mature rookie. Hardwick has said there's no sentiment in footy. I would doubt another club will jump in and take him so all the squealing of shame Richmond on SEN by Rita ::) was crying about nothing. So I guess it comes downs to who and what type of players (how many KPPs) we pick up in the National draft and PSD. Demoting Polly to the rookie list doesn't give you the impression the those at the Club are confident themselves that he will be a long-term player for us. We can't let emotion affect list management decisions no matter how courageous a player is.

As for the amount of changes themselves the Club has done well. The axe has been swung and most likely will be swung again this time next year. Up now to our recruiters and then our development coaches to do their job right.

SEN just said, although Richmond won't say it officially, unofficially the word is it is highly likely the Tigers will pick up Polak in the rookie draft as a mature rookie. So Polly will still be at Punt Rd next year.

Can Polak nominate just for the Rookie Draft?

Or does he have to nominate for the National Draft or the PSD first before he can be rookied?

Not sure Con. Wasn't there some rule you had to nominate for the draft first to be eligible or has that changed? I know there's a delisted player draft nomination deadline on Dec 8 just prior to the PSD.

Polly may nominate for all drafts anyway for his own sake. We've made no guarantees to him apart from saying "most likely we'll redraft you as a rookie".

I hope we don't do something silly and use our first rookie pick on him out of some paranoid fear another club may grab him. If he's not around at our last rookie pick then we should just move on.

He can skip the National Draft if he wants, I think he needs to be in both the PSD & Rookie Draft
