BRETT Deledio made a stunning return from injury to steer Richmond to a 74-point victory over Greater Western Sydney at Manuka Oval to cap off a promising pre-season for the Tigers.

In his first outing this year following a hamstring injury, Deledio had 33 possessions and kicked four goals in Richmond's 20.20 (140) to 10.6 (66) win over a Giants side that will commence the 2012 AFL season against the Sydney Swans next week.

In an eventful afternoon, Israel Folau was reported for the first time in his brief AFL career, but there was very little in a slightly raised arm against Daniel Jackson in the second quarter.

Folau put his forearm near Jackson's neck in a minor throwing motion, but it would surprise if any further action was taken against the former rugby league star a week out from round one.

Folau - who showed good signs in the ruck late in the game - then came off second best after an accidental head clash with Tom Scully and was helped from the ground, but he returned a short time later.

The usual suspects of Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin and Nathan Foley were prominent for Richmond, while Jack Riewoldt kicked six goals in the second half.

Callan Ward, Jonathan Giles and youngsters Will Hoskin-Elliott, Devon Smith, Adam Kennedy, Jeremy Cameron and Tom Bugg stood out for the home side.

Excitement is building among the Richmond faithful after a strong NAB Cup campaign, which included wins over Geelong and Hawthorn, and Saturday's performance would have done nothing to diminish that hope.

The Tigers owned the footy in the first quarter, pumping the ball inside 50 eight times before the Giants had gone forward of the centre square.

GWS at least showed some good tackling pressure, but there was a clear gulf in class in the opening term as Richmond led by 26 points.

In an encouraging sign for GWS, both sides finished the second quarter with 4.2, but Richmond largely dominated after half-time.

I have a problem with the highlighted.... A gulf for all intensive purposes would be at least  perhaps 10 goals??  :lol

On another day yes but I'm also kind of grateful it wasn't 120+ points even though it would have been nice.
Let these big wins evolve with time.
Lets start with a breakthrough win against the filth and let our development and performance take its course.
We are definentely on the right track. :thumbsup

Richmond destroys young Giants in practice match by 74-points

RICHMOND star Brett Deledio has made an emphatic return for the Tigers booting four goals and picking up 33 touches in a practice match against GWS.

The Tigers ran away 74-point winners 20.20 (140) to Greater Western Sydney's 10.6 (66) at Manuka Oval.

GWS experiment Israel Folau was reported for high contact on Daniel Jackson in the second quarter.

Star forward Jack Riewoldt led the Tiger's onslaught with six majors, while Robin Nahas and Ivan Maric chimed in with two goals each.

The Giants were kept goalless in the first quarter but were able to match it with the Tigers in the second.

But a six-goal third quarter put paid to the Giants who could muster little despite the best efforts of ex-Bulldog Callan Ward and Devon Smith, who kicked three goals.
