Justin Plapp's debut was one for the ages.

Marty McGrath, kicked 5 on debut. 5 games in total I think.

I won't be surprised if they give it to Walsh because he was the No.1 draft pick but if they do they'll ignore that Ross on debut played a key inside mid ballwinning role in an injury-ravaged team winning against the odds interstate and the fact our team on the weekend was so much younger and inexperienced compared to Carlton (who lost to a younger Gold Coast side).

                Average Age   Games Experience
Richmond    23y 343d           1634
Carlton        24y 313d           1832

Carlton had 7 players 28+ to Richmond's 2.

Ross is also two months younger than Walsh.

“I just wanted to take it quarter by quarter, so I’m pretty happy with the end result. I just focused on doing the team things and hopefully getting over the line, which we did,” Ross said.

“I actually wasn’t really that nervous leading up to the game. I think the JLT games that I had earlier in the year held me in good stead.

“I just wanted to get around the boys when I felt a little bit nervous, just talk to them, see how they deal with it, and from there just led into the game.”

“The camaraderie around the team and the celebration that we had there in the post-game, I’ve never experienced anything like that . . . It was an awesome experience."

Ross missed out.

Walsh named as this round's rising star nominee.

Fair enough too. Walsh was extremely good against the Suns.

We also want to make sure young Ross doesn't start supping his own bathwater.

Jack Ross, who couldn't get a game for Vic Metro last year, won eight of his 17 disposals to quarter-time in just his second AFL match.

Thought he was best on field in the first half

Was trying to see what happened second half, don’t know if they paid more attention to him or something else happened

I did notice he was on the pine a lot in the second half.
Not sure if he got a knock or the club just protecting him a bit??
