Best one is in 2020 - Maurice jnr  :shh

But Maurice Jnr, is Maurice's grandson not son, so father / son doesn't apply
Did is correct. He is his son.

Really?

Now I am really confused

The interview with young Daniel the other week in HUN said Maurice junior was Maurice Rioli's grandson, not son even though he is referred to as junior

definitely MR's youngest son

Lesson learned

HUN totally unreliable  :rollin
The HUN spreading furfies?  NOoooo waaaaay!
Lots of people name their swords......

Maurice Rioli junior shapes as a father-son prospect for Richmond Tigers

Jon Pierik
The Age
13 June 2017

The famous Rioli football lineage could continue at Richmond, with Maurice Rioli junior taking to the field in the under-16 national championships.

Rioli, the son of the late Maurice Rioli, lined up for the Northern Territory against Tasmania at Blacktown International Sportspark on Monday.

Where his father was a meticulous left-foot kick, Maurice junior is a right foot. The son of a gun isn't a speed machine but he is brave, has quick reflexes and has a knack of finding the ball, as he did with 15 disposals against Tasmania.

That he is only 14 - he does not turn 15 until September - highlights his potential. However, should his progress continue, he won't be able to be nominated as a father-son by the Tigers until the 2020 national draft.

AFL national talent manager Kevin Sheehan told Fairfax Media it was too early to predict if Rioli would reach the AFL but his talent was unquestionable.

"He was clean, brave, pushed up from half-forward into the midfield, at times. He probably played that fifth, sixth role," he said on Monday.

"He is only, obviously, small and light at the minute but there is so much growth and development in him yet. He is very much in the facial features exactly like Maurice.

"As we say, he is just a boy starting his journey with one of the famous name tags."

Tigers' recruiting officer Francis Jackson was also on hand on a day Rioli, who began on the bench, was one of the NT's better players in a heavy defeat. Rioli's home club is the Darwin Buffaloes.

Maurice senior played 118 games for the Tigers between 1982 and 1987, and was a pivotal centreman of the 1980 premiership. He is one of only four players to be a Norm Smith medallist in a losing grand final side, that being against Carlton in 1982.

He was named in the Indigenous side of the century and would become a politician in the NT. He died from a heart attack on Christmas Day, 2010.

Rioli was the uncle to Hawthorn star Cyril Rioli and the great uncle to young Tiger Daniel, who has shown flashes of Maurice's brilliance this year.

Pivotal centreman in the 1980 premiership?

Lol. Can't even get their facts correct. Came to Richmond at the end of 1981 for the 1982 season. First game against Fitzroy and starred.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Son of late South Fremantle, Richmond champion Maurice Rioli's promising start at AFL under-16 championships

Jordan McArdle,
PerthNow
2 July 2017

FREMANTLE and Richmond could be set for a father-son tug of war in a few years after the son of a South Fremantle legend’s promising start at the AFL National Under-16 Championships.

At just 14 years old, Maurice Rioli Jr — the son of late WAFL and VFL champion Maurice — impressed in his recent debut for the Northern Territory against Tasmania.

Maurice Jr’s father played 168 games for the Bulldogs and 118 at Richmond, meaning both the Dockers (150-plus games for eligible WAFL club) and Tigers (100-plus VFL games) can snap him up under the father-son rule in his draft year.

He has the choice of which club he would like to nominate for, or can elect to ignore both clubs and go into the 2020 national draft.

AFL talent manager Kevin Sheehan said while it was too early to tell whether he would make it to the top level, he felt there were plenty of encouraging signs.

“His courage, ball-winning ability and use of the ball — all of those things were pretty impressive,” Sheehan said.

“He no doubt has some of the traits of the father, he’s a right-footer though, so you don’t see the classic Maurice disposal.

“He was among the most possessions (14) for the NT playing as a fifth and sixth role up in the forward-line — that’s quite an amazing effort for such a young kid when they were beaten by about 80 points.”

Maurice Jr, a Tiwi Islander who boards at Darwin’s St John’s Catholic College and plays juniors for NTFL side Darwin Buffaloes, boasts some of the best football bloodlines.

He has three Norm Smith medallists in his family including his late father, who made a name for himself in the WAFL — including a premiership in 1980 and three Simpson medals — before a decorated VFL career at Richmond.

Current AFL footballers Daniel Rioli (Richmond), Cyril Rioli (Hawthorn), Willie Rioli (West Coast), Ben Long (St Kilda) and Jake Long (Essendon) are all relatives of Maurice Jr.

“We say that the NT team won’t go around without a Motlop, Long or Rioli around — whether it’s 16s or 18s there will be one there, and that’s been the same for 20-odd years,” Sheehan said. “They’ve made a wonderful contribution to our game at so many levels.”

NT under-16s coach Jimmy Driscoll said the raw talent still had a lot to learn.

But he was a good chance to feature in the team’s final two games against NSW/ACT (July 11) and Queensland (July 15).

“He’s still got another year in the 16s so we’re just looking to get games into him,” Driscoll said.

“He’s a ripper kid and we’re trying to teach him about the higher-lever stuff.”

Brett Peake – the son of WA football league Brian Peake who played the majority of his 400-plus game career at East Fremantle – is the only father-son draftee in Dockers history.

Peake made 75 appearances for Fremantle from 2005-09 before finishing his AFL career at St Kilda, where he played 43 games.

I'm pretty sure there was a grandfather clause in the original Freo entry into AFL about the father son rule that expired a few years ago.

I don't think they have a claim.
