I’ve warmed a lot on Taylor, think he will be a jet.

I’m not sold on our backline or any line for that matter being good/deep enough to pass on best available talent. I think Sharp is better so would prefer to take him but if the recruiters think it’s Taylor then no issue with that either.

AFL Draft 2025: ESPN's final, top 50 power rankings

Jasper Chellappah
ESPN
Nov 12, 2025

After eight monthly editions, ESPN settles its final big board for the 2025 AFL Draft. A consolidated list of the best 50 talents from around the country headlines the final power rankings of 2025, but there's one big mover inside the top 10.

Sam Cumming entrenches himself in the top echelon of prospects with clubs scrambling to secure his services. His body of work across the year coupled with strong character reports and projections to the senior level have recruiters confident he can become a star.

There's no doubting this year's pool is not as deep as previous years, with a maximum of 57 selections available in the draft. That would be a record low for the national draft and a stark contrast to the depth of 2024 where 71 players were taken. That relative lack of depth is coupled with a glut of club-tied talent, with two of the top three prospects headed to the Suns and Lions respectively.

                                                           Traits similar to:
1. Willem Duursma (last month: 1)         Marcus Bontempelli
2. Zeke Uwland (Suns Academy) (2)           Errol Gulden
3. Dan Annable (Lions Academy) (3)         Noah Anderson

Who every club should take with its first AFL Draft pick

Dylan Bolch with Jack Jovanovski
Fox Sports
November 10th, 2025

RICHMOND

Xavier Taylor (DEF; Eastern Ranges)

The Tigers currently hold picks 3 and 4, but will likely do some bidding on Zeke Uwland, Dylan Patterson and Daniel Annable. That leaves players such as Sullivan Robey and Xavier Taylor right in the mix. Robey has bolted from the clouds as a result of an exceptional end to the Coates Talent League season but for the sake of this exercise, we’ve taken Xavier Taylor with their first selection. Taylor has been compared to two current Tigers stars in Nick Vlastuin and Nathan Broad throughout his draft year. He’s strong one-on-one, has a high footy IQ and is very versatile. Standing at 191cm, Taylor is the prototype third tall defender who can play on both talls and smalls. He’s also a good user by foot and can break the lines with his pace. Taylor was best on ground in the Coates Talent League grand final where he amassed 25 disposals and 15 marks. He put together a consistent campaign both for Vic Metro and the Eastern Ranges where he claimed the club best and fairest.

No disrespect to Xavier who is a fine player. Personally think ming taking him at Pick 2 or 3 whilst having a fairly strong young backline would be crazy. He's almost identical to Trainor.

The guy who did the phantom draft on Reading the Play reckons Taylor could become anything. Likens him to a Weddle type. In this draft I'd probably take a Weddle type pretty early.

Xavier Taylor has tattoos, worked in a factory this year, and starts every sentence with ‘yeah, nah.’ The Eastern Ranges star has opened up about choosing a sports school over an elite private school and his rise into a top-10 AFL draft prospect.

The Victorian club most interested in top-10 draft prospect Jevan Phillipou

SEN
12 Nov 2025

Entering this year’s draft as a top prospect, Phillipou has heard from all but two clubs across the competition, specifying one Victorian-based club that has shown significant interest.

“I’ve spoken to 16 out of 18, only a couple haven’t reached out. It’s actually Gold Coast and Fremantle that haven’t reached out at all.

“I’d probably say Richmond (have been the most interested), to be honest. Since the start they were first to reach out.

“They’ve done quite a few meetings as well as the combine, so I’d probably say them overall.”

Phillipou says he has spoken to several senior coaches including his brother’s coach Ross Lyon and Adem Yze, among others.

The Woodville-West Torrens talent offers plenty on and ahead of the ball, drawing comparisons to the likes of Isaac Heeney and Christian Petracca.

“Being a mid-sized midfielder, I’ve got a bit of an advantage athletically,” Phillipou told SEN SA’s The Run Home.

“It really helps me that I can play other positions on the ground. I always try to model my game around the good players similar to me in the AFL, that can go forward, have a burst of speed, kick a big goal and take a big mark as well.”

TIGER CONUNDRUM

Ben Waterworth
Foxsports
12 Nov 2025

Which players Richmond selects with its first two picks remains a big talking point among the industry.

Should West Coast overlook Duff-Tytler, the Tigers would almost certainly pounce with their first natural selection. But the expectation is the Eagles will pair Duff-Tytler with Duursma.

Three open-pool players are consistently linked with Richmond: Eastern Ranges star pair Xavier Taylor and Sullivan Robey, as well as Oakleigh Chargers speedster Sam Grlj.

Robey – a powerful 192cm forward-mid – is the biggest bolter in an AFL draft since Clayton Oliver 10 years ago. No AFL club had spoken to Robey prior to July this year. Three months later, all 18 had contacted him.

Taylor is a serious defensive talent who’s rocketed into top-10 calculations over recent months. At 191cm, he’s a genuine hybrid third defender who has the athleticism and versatility to either lock down or intercept while playing on forwards of different sizes.

Grlj, who’s spoken to 17 of the 18 AFL clubs, is a hybrid midfielder with the appealing combination of speed, power and endurance.

Opinions from rival clubs vary on what the Tigers will do.

Some believe Robey would be too good to overlook. If the Tigers didn’t select him, he wouldn’t get past either Essendon or Melbourne.

Most would be shocked if Richmond overlooked Taylor, who’s seen as a possible long-term replacement for the likes of Nick Vlastuin and Nathan Broad. But would the Tigers prioritise midfielders at the pointy end of the draft? And would Essendon or even Melbourne have a similar mindset?

The Tigers arguably don’t have a player with running power and speed like Grlj on their list. But if they don’t pick Grlj, he could slide past several clubs and land somewhere in the middle stages of the first round.

The only other prospect in the Richmond mix would be South Australian midfielder Sam Cumming, yet it’s more likely he’ll land at one of the Bombers or Demons.

Wce firming on Robey? @ 2

@CalTwomey
 on Sullivan Robey

"It'd be remarkable if he gets to three or four, that's just a crazy, crazy story."

-

I watched gettable and that quote is taken way out of context. He was saying it in a way compliments his rise from not being in the top 20-30 only a few months ago to where he is placed to go now.

He repeated multiple times that CDT is almost to get snapped by the eagles.

Also I think you’re gonna get in trouble again for not posting the source lol

Got some dusty vibes if wce won't take him alone and two (scully trengrove )

Would be rough if they let him get through to the druggies
