Port's General Manager of Football, Chris Davies said, Brownlow medallist Dustin Martin was unlikely to get a hard tag.
“Dustin is the best player in the competition so there’ll be some work put into him but the way we play our game is a team defensive game when we’re defending and we know we’ll need to be at our best in order to beat Richmond on Friday night,” he said.
“I think we’ll back our group to do the job but of course the coaches need to have contingencies to curtail any player’s influence.
“We’re well aware of Martin’s potential but he’s also got a team around him that we need to be mindful of.”

Jack on AFL360 tonight said he can't wait for Friday night. He loves it when they play 'Never tear us apart' before the start and if the camera pans to him it will show him in the goalsquare singing along with it lol.
Jack also said without going into specifics that the thing we learnt from the Swans loss centred around our defence.

After last week's thrashing at the hands of the Swans, Hardwick said the reigning back-to-back premiers were ready to respond against one of their premiership challengers.
"Sydney, to their credit, had a great game. We didn't play particularly well. We can sit there and judge us on one game, but I'm a pretty proud coach of a pretty proud playing group. Judge us on the next four weeks, see how we go then," he said.

Will be In Adelaide this weekend, what's the best way to get a ticket?
Tried ticketek but can't get 3 together?
Not sure, pmac. It is hard to get tickets being the away team supporter. Virtually all the tickets have been already sold according to Ticketek.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The allocation of tickets for General Admission members and the General Public is now exhausted.
There will be a final release of tickets available on Friday 9 April from 11am.

David King’s Round 4 Picks
Port Adelaide v Richmond:
Kingy says: “I think Port will bounce back. I think Kenny (Hinkley) will have them ready to go.
“The Tigers won’t be too fussed. They’ll go over there, give their best shot but I’d be taking Port.”
Pick: Port at the line (-9.5).
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/04/08/david-king-makes-his-picks-for-round-4/
OVER/UNDER: Port Adelaide are going to let Dustin Martin run without an opponent tonight at Adelaide Oval, or will they?
Kane says: OVER
“Ken Hinkley said ‘we’re going to back our system in’ which gives me shudders, it gives me nightmares."
“And if you do that, he’ll make you pay. I couldn’t back against him.
"27 and three goals for Dustin Martin, tonight.”

Get back to basics tonight intensity, pressure, team work and footy smarts the rest will flow in to place simple equation for us :gotigers.

Caddy is the sub.
-
Dwayne Russell said Todd Marshall will have a late fitness test right before the bounce and if he doesn't pass it Ladhams will replace him.
The AFL twitter account though says no late changes.
-
Just said on Fox that he failed the test and Ladhams is in.
-
I’m expecting a better performance today from our mids
I want to see more clean ball handling.
I would expect the boys to utilise the new rules and hit up our big forwards lace out.
Like last year’s preliminary final I reckon we can tear ‘em apart! :rollin
-
Get back to basics tonight intensity, pressure, team work and footy smarts the rest will flow in to place simple equation for us :gotigers.
Spot on georgie.
-
First goal to Port thanks to the umps ::). Soft!
-
Lambert goal :gotigers
-
Only took three times for the ump to finally see Lynch's arms chopped ::). Misses.
7 - 6
-
And Carey thinks they are being very technical about a slight touch!
-
Pickett butchering it nice and early.
-
Great kick Jack :gotigers.
Transition play better so far.
Rich 2.2-14
Port 1.0-6
-
Aliir lands right on Jack's back and no free ::).
-
Aliir falls into Jacks back and play on. Clearly in the back.
-
Pickett butchering it nice and early.
Can't find a target so far :P.
-
Pickett butchering it nice and early.
Hes a deadset liability. Id rather a kid play.
-
Houli has started well for his first game back.
Excellent transition again.
Goal to Bolts :gotigers.
Rich 3.2-20
Port 1.1-7
-
At least he is getting his hands on it but he’s turned a few over badly without being under any pressure.
-
Cotch looks much better this week.
-
Tackled & drop the ball = play on ::).
-
Grimesy old son
-
Short fumbled it but he was isolated. Our smalls/crumbers aren't getting numbers defensive side of those long balls to HF.
-
Repeat of the Prelim. Dusty outmarks Byrnes-Jones 1-on-1.
Hands off to Short = goal :gotigers
Rich 4.2-26
Port 3.2-20
-
Quarter time
Richmond 4.2-26
Port Adel. 3.3-21
Goals: Riewoldt, Bolton, Lambert, Short.
-
Aarts and Martyn zero touches so far.
Some of our turn overs and decision maki g is very ordinary.
-
First 15 mins was good but Port started to win the 50/50 midfield & HF contests/clearances and we lost our forward structure in the last 5 mins. Need to turn that around.
Frees: 4 - 7. All we ask for is consistency.
-
Silly by Baker.
Balta had Charlie covered ::)
-
What was Pickett doing. Lynch was free inside 50 and Marlion was looking backwards :huh.
It gets to Lynch anyway. Misses.
27 - 22
-
What the hell was that Broad?! :facepalm.
-
BT: "Martin didn't have it"
Ump pays HTB.
-
How can it be holding the ball when you haven't taken possession of the ball
-
Umps are red hot against us. 2-3 times the tackle has been applied as soon as we take possession and even though the ball is knocked out it’s HTB.
-
Clueless footy and unforced errors on transition is gifting the ball to Port :banghead. Better to turn it over deep in the forward line than stop and turn it over in the midfield :banghead.
27 - 28
-
Exact same thing as Dusty and the Ump pays Rozee the free for holding ::).
34 - 27
-
I wish we got the frees other teams get.
-
Not sure what’s wrong with our defensive structures but how many times are Short or Baker the last man in defence against a tall.
-
Dumb Aarts. It's a stupid rule but you know you can't move sideways.
-
Jake Aarts :banghead :banghead
-
Panic footy. Playing like crap this quarter.
-
We are in a bit of strife at the moment
-
Short has his legs taken out as he kicks it = no free.
Port gift us a turnover and Jack goals :gotigers.
Take that off us Ump!
Rich 5.3-33
Port 5.5-35
-
Pathetic defence :banghead
-
Who’s on the mullet moustache? He’s killing us out of half back. :banghead
Whoever is in him hasn’t won a contest. I thunk it’s Aarts.
-
Dixon pushes in the back.
Gray ball was out of bounds.
::)
-
They're not even paying out of bounds for us now....
-
Who’s on the mullet moustache? He’s killing us out of half back. :banghead
Whoever is in him hasn’t won a contest. I thunk it’s Aarts.
You are correct
-
Port player drops the ball in the tackle and it's paid holding the man ::).
-
Boak is killing us
-
Mansell lacks composure. Has shut himself multiple times already.
We can’t have a crapier playing half back.
-
Stuff me we are pathetic but these umpires are f*cking cheats. How did we get done for holding the man in the centre of the ground when he dropped it cold.
-
Kicking to Lynch 5 on 1 isn't really working.
-
Gee Jack Ross is playing a great game :clapping
-
Stick it up 'em Tigers. Playing against 21.
Finally some good transitional play off the back of pressure. Goal Jack.
Rich 6.3-39
Port 6.6-42
-
What was Grimes meant to do? He was in the area and he didn't run through the mark.
-
There's always one player from the opposition that you can't stand
Dursma is that player for me from Port
He is a :wallywink
-
This is blatant cheating now by the umps.
-
There's always one player from the opposition that you can't stand
Dursma is that player for me from Port
He is a :wallywink
Yep, shame he got up from the hit into the fence
-
DeBoy is a disgrace
I never call umpires cheats but he is a cheat
-
Now the umps pay 50 against us even though the Port player runs through the mark.
-
They should be 6 goals up
-
DeBoy is a disgrace
I never call umpires cheats but he is a cheat
Playing a great game for Port is the boy.
-
Cotch :banghead
First option please :banghead
-
DeBoy is a disgrace
I never call umpires cheats but he is a cheat
Playing a great game for Port is the boy.
:clapping
-
Bolton had to keep his feet
He didn't, enabled Alir to get back to help Jonas
-
This in where I wish Hardwick had a bit of Brad Scott in him and walked into the field to give the Umps a massive spray. That was disgusting.
-
Seriously the AFL needs to look at this level of umpiring. Its a disgrace.
-
Once again we have to play the umpire roulette .... ::)
-
There's always one player from the opposition that you can't stand
Dursma is that player for me from Port
He is a :wallywink
agree
-
Gee Jack Ross is playing a great game :clapping
I’d add Baker to that too.
Our leaders need to step up. We are getting reamed out of the middle again. Boak has leather poisoning.
Aarts is getting reamed by mulletmoustache who is kicking his arse at nearly every contest. Should’ve been dropped and probably will be after this game.
Lambert and short have been good. Dusty quiet that second quarter he only had 5 handballs that quarter in defence. He currently has -4 metres gained which is not what we see from him.
-
It’s hard to play footy when your shorts are around your ankles and the Umps have their finger fair in your bung h*le.
-
Half-time
Richmond 4.2 6.3-39
Port Adel. 3.2 6.10-46
Goals: Riewoldt 3, Bolton, Lambert, Short.
Frees: 13 - 6 plus 3 50s to Port >:(.
Lucky to be this close given we're playing against 21 on the field.
-
It’s hard to play footy when your shorts are around your ankles and the Umps have their finger fair in your bung h*le.
I’d like to see Lynch takes his own finger out of his arse and present. Done absolutely nothing and giving us absolutely nothing. :banghead
-
It’s hard to play footy when your shorts are around your ankles and the Umps have their finger fair in your bung h*le.
I’d like to see Lynch takes his own finger out of his areas and present. Done absolutely nothing and giving us absolutely nothing. :banghead
Yeah he has been poor
But not sure what you are expecting when he is 1 out against 5. Not sure why they are kicking it to him in that situation to be honest
-
Need to lift the intensity once again to many passengers.
-
Lynch is outnumbered badly. Our forward structure is brutal, if our smalls are only getting 4-5 touches a game and can’t apply and f50 pressure we’d be better off playing another tall to at least help compete in the air.
-

When we are running through the middle we want to see a leading target. I’m not talking about down the line kicks.
He’s not presenting enough from what I’m seeing. He needs to lead into space. He needs to run up the ground and present at half forward. Not enough IMO
-
Port's poor kicking is really letting the umpires down .... :P
-
Too many passengers in the middle. Cotch 11 contested possies then daylight to the next Tiger compared to Port. Need others to lift.
-
That last kick is killing us. Jack wide open on the lead and the pass misses him by 15m :facepalm.
-
Too many passengers in the middle. Cotch 11 contested possies then daylight to the next Tiger compared to Port. Need others to lift.
Yes he is getting it but his disposals have been average
-
OMG they finally saw a Port player drop the ball in the tackle.
-
Can we stop over-handballing :banghead
-
Atrocious by Pickett
-
Nank out of the ruck and Lynch marks 40 out. Misses again.
41 - 46
-
A few of our boys need nappies to be fair
Should be 6 goals down
-
Atrocious by Pickett
He shouldnt be playing. Hes terrible.
-
You are highly fortunate that ended up in our F50 somehow, Bachar Houli
-
We are in front :rollin
How?
-
What's with our decision making going forward :facepalm. Across ground high kick to Ross. Lucky Aliir didn't mark it.
Jack cleans it up anyway to George. Goal! :gotigers
We're in front! :gobdrop
Rich 7.5-47
Port 6.10-46
-
11 inside 50s for just one goal. Can we hit a target inside 50 please!
-
Finally
-
Not pretty but Jack taps down to Lambert hands to Lynch who snaps a Goal! :gotigers
Rich 8.5-53
Port 6.10-46
-
I defended Pickett a number of times the last 12 months
Not tonight, he's been terrible
-
Unreal how many times Houli and Pickett stuff something up only for the boys to save them and turn it into a positive :lol
-
Love that every time Pickett tackles or hits, the opposition get up sore.
Hate that he fumbles everything.
-
Shocking by Broad
Panic, panic, panic >:(
-
Broad not much better either.
-
Arghhh! That was a soft give up :banghead.
-
Hang your head in shame Nankervis :banghead
-
Dyland Grimes old son, you have aged 10 years in 5 months
-
Two gifts after all the hard work...
-
Martyn struggling with the tempo in his first game. Just taking that bit longer with the ball when you don't have that time.
Port run it down for a goal on the rebound :banghead.
Geez can we sub Aarts off.
-
Or Pickett sub him off
-
:banghead :banghead
That was crap
Panic, panic panic
-
They are making us pay for all our wasted chances this qtr :banghead.
-
Lambert should have ailed that
No excuse
-
Lambert misses an open goal :facepalm.
54 - 64
-
Hartlett can certainly kick a football but I've not seen a bigger wanker for some time
-
Hartlett can certainly kick a football but I've not seen a bigger wanker for some time
You sure?
Port's number 7 holds the title for mine
-
Can we hit a #$&@ leading forward :banghead
-
Cotch :scream
Again first option :banghead
-
Kick it to Alir
-
Geez we've butchered the ball and been slow of mind so far this year. Gifting the opposition the ball.
-
We blew it that quarter :banghead :banghead
We should be in front
-
3/4 time
Richmond 4.2 6.3 8.7-55
Port Adel. 3.2 6.10 9.12-66
Goals: Riewoldt 3, Lynch, Bolton, Lambert, Short, Castagna.
Only ourselves to blame that quarter. Talk about shooting ourselves in the foot. Open forwards yet our mids are either too slow in mind, overpossessing and fumbling by hand or can't hit the side of the barn by foot :banghead.
-
Dusty is MIA :-\
We need 3 goals and ensure they don't score
Hmmmm
-
Cotch has been a bull. We need more from others in and under.
Dusty handballing too much he needs to kick more. Port wearing him like a glove.
We need a big last quarter from all players. They have a lot of injured blokes out there.
-
Dusty heard you WP ;D.
Rich 9.7-61
Port 9.12-66
-
Dustin :shh
-
Dumb Aarts. Should have protected Graham not flown for the hero speckie.
-
At least the 3rd time Aarts has spoiled his team mate in a marking contest :banghead
-
We get back in the game and we gift them a soft free :banghead
-
Down field off the ball free gifts Port a goal ::).
61 - 72
-
Getting smashed in the centre clearances. Can't tackle them :banghead.
-
Well he may have kicked a great goal
But that defensive effort by Dusty on Boak was terrible :scream
-
Cute freaking short crap turns it over again :banghead.
-
We almost stuff up another chance but Aarts gets the goal :gotigers.
Rich 10.7-67
Port 10.13-73
-
Aaarts has been terrible and should not play next week but that was a brilliant effort
-
Aarts finally does something
-
Make a contest :banghead.
-
Seriously, Pickett!
Should have kicked it
-
Poor Will tonight. The tempo has got him.
-
Martin....
-
Jack in front and we again miss him (kick it over his head) :banghead.
-
Lambert goal :gotigers
We're in front!
Rich 11.9-75
Port 10.13-73
-
LMAO at deliberate ::)
-
:banghead
Work so hard to get the lead and then :scream
-
Grrr!
That goal was due to us not killing the ball or getting the ball forward on the wing.
-
Jack misses from 50.
76 - 79
-
Oh Jack :facepalm
-
Aarts :facepalm.
-
Aarts you idiot
-
Bolton stupid :banghead
-
We stuffed that right up
-
George has an airy in the goalsquare :banghead.
77 - 79
-
Only have ourselves to blame if we lose this.
-
Goneski
We've lost it
Disgraceful
-
Pretty pee poor losing this one
-
Lost by 2 :banghead
-
Dumb footy cost us that game
-
I doubt Aarts would get a game Epping 2nds. Paddock footballer deadset.
-
I doubt Aarts would get a game Epping 2nds. Paddock footballer deadset.
Makes one pray Sydney Stack gets his poo together
-
Very tight and hard fort game. Yes we didn't take all our chances, either did they but that was by far the most blatant bias umpiring i have ever bloody witnessed :banghead the umpires should be ashamed of themselves :banghead
-
Feel for Jack
Could have, should have kicked that goal.
Then George :banghead
And just dumb footy in the last 5 minutes. Panic footy
-
Thought Jack played admirably. Aliir is a bloody tough opponent and when JR did get some space on him, they blasted it high and wide of him. Poor bugger. Great effort all night.
-
Feel for Jack
Could have, should have kicked that goal.
Then George :banghead
And just dumb footy in the last 5 minutes. Panic footy
George should have kicked that goal no doubt
-
We normally win those tight ones. Gotta lose them at some point. I don’t blame the Umpiring but stuff me it was as bad as I can remember. Lack of awareness from aarts and Martyn just kills momentum. Long season boys, remember the start last year ?!
-
We cannot continue to play forwards the that never win contested ball. Time to scrap this defensive forward rubbish now. Aarts, Castagna got cheap goals that's it but lost almost every contest.
-
Aarts - fho ....Martyn clearly not ready for AFL footy yet...Mansell....meh...Balta imitating young Rance the last two weeks... :shh
-
Smashed in contested footy.
Smashed in clearances.
2nd half disposal into our forward 50 was pathetic for all the chances we had. Just 6 marks inside F50 for the night compared to Port's 16.
Blame the umps for the 2nd qtr but only have ourselves to blame for the 2nd half. Game was there for the taking and we blew it.
-
Frustrating game, but the hunger is still there, along with a ton of rust though.
-
We normally win those tight ones. Gotta lose them at some point. I don’t blame the Umpiring but stuff me it was as bad as I can remember. Lack of awareness from aarts and Martyn just kills momentum. Long season boys, remember the start last year ?!
I get it but the umps played a massive role in the result. 10 more frees....please :banghead
-
Out - Pickett Aartz
In - Anybody
-
Thought Jack played admirably. Aliir is a bloody tough opponent and when JR did get some space on him, they blasted it high and wide of him. Poor bugger. Great effort all night.
Agree AT. Jack was good tonight and could have had a bag if his teammates weren't a pack of butchers with the footy :banghead.
-

5 goals from those frees
-
How many fifty metre penalties and bs free shots on goals did they get this time round?
-

Agree AT. Jack was good tonight and could have had a bag if his teammates weren't a pack of butchers with the footy :banghead.
Agree, thought Jack was good
But that miss..
He's been nailing them this year. Wrong time not to nail it
-
Aarts - fho ....Martyn clearly not ready for AFL footy yet...Mansell....meh...Balta imitating young Rance the last two weeks... :shh
Agee with all of this. Martyn should play against north, or otherwise I don’t want to see him again till he is ready.
-
If Pickett and Aartz dont play and we have another 2 come in we win the game irrespective. These 2 suburban footballers at best.
-
Disgusted in the umps.
Otherwise we blew our chances big time.
Aarts has to stay because we don't have anyone else who tries EG. Rioli.
Martyn and Mansell are not ready. Very underwhelming.
-

Could this be a directive from headquarters? Are they being paid by bookies? It simply needs to be discussed or are the umps that bad and intimidated by the crowds?
-
If Pickett and Aartz dont play and we have another 2 come in we win the game irrespective. These 2 suburban footballers at best.
Pickett was our best player u flog
-
Agree thought Pickett was very good.
2 point loss vs Port away. Big improvement from last week. Let's beat em when it matters in finals again.
-
Pickett was great and you can usually rely on him to tackle or hit someone hard.
-
If Pickett and Aartz dont play and we have another 2 come in we win the game irrespective. These 2 suburban footballers at best.
Pickett was our best player u flog
Only mid who consistently makes the opposition earn every possession... :shh
-
3 slow mids did not help either. We needed outside class which is why they should have played Naish.
-
You’re kidding me aren’t you! Pickett was shocking. Every time he touched it it turned to poo.
-
Agree thought Pickett was very good.
2 point loss vs Port away. Big improvement from last week. Let's beat em when it matters in finals again.
Pickett was poor IMHO
Why?
Because to often he either fumbled when we had momentum or handballed when he should of kicked it. Or handballed to a team-mate surrounded by the opposition
-

On that basis, Cotch had a stinker. Pickett was in our best 5 IMO.
We made the wrong call on Rioli or Aarts.
The debutants were a net negative. Both pooed the bed on a number of occasions.Given all that, we should have won. Back on track I reckon.
-

100% correct

I thought Cotchin was poor as well.
Butchered the ball far too often.... those handballs up in the air to no one.. more times than not resulted in a turnover. Yes he got it but he didn't use it well
-
If Pickett and Aartz dont play and we have another 2 come in we win the game irrespective. These 2 suburban footballers at best.

If you think thats right then im an astronaut.
-
Cotch was the only guy in and under all night, and yes his disposal was bad but how many others turned it over or made terrible decisions when in space. Nankervis needs a kick in the arse, no point dropping 80 meters behind the ball when your man is all alone and in a dangerous spot inside 50.
-
Lol at the few here who wanna defend a professional fumbler, momemtum killer and turnover star.
-
Who's defending Castagna & Short? :shh
-
I dunno why we had repeat entries inside F50 in the last and time and time again Lynch chose not to lead up into space choosing to stand against two inside the goalsquare. He should be leading up and smashing defenders a pee poor game from him :banghead
Houli was excellent the whole game.
Cotchin was our best in and under his contested game was good unfortunately we didn’t have others to help and he turned it over when the pressure was on.
Thought Baker was good as was Short (excellent) and Grimes. Lambert was very good all game.
Our mids didn’t do enough inside and got beat in contest and centre clearances. Ross looked good early but didn’t notice him in the second half. Bolton was better this week and looks better in the middle.
Besides his mistakes I though Nankervis was good all game
Aarts had a rubbish game was well beat especially first have by the first gamer.
Baptism but fire for the new guys.
I thought Mansell was a little overwhelmed in defence and poo himself a few times especially in the second quarter otherwise he was ok and got more confidence as the game progressed.
Martyn too wasn’t used to the speed of the game a nice taste I guess.
But both players didn’t have the same impact as Ports first gamer mulletmoustache which had a great game for a first game player.
Umps were terrible. How many 50/50 decisions that we didn’t get but they got. A real terrible umpiring performance that were sucked in by the crowd.
They missed some easy shots in the second as we did in the third.
We need to get to work on our contested game.
Aarts can have a rest. Lynch needs a rocket.
-
We got reamed big time most of our free kicks we got where from out on the full

1 clanger tonight. Balta 8, Cotchin, Nank 6 each, plenty of others with 3 and 4.
Pickett 18 possessions, 3 tackles, 3 I 50s - and he hurts blokes when he tackles. I'd keep him in.
-
:shh
-
Was at the game. Our defence looks all at sea and the new rules are forcing players like Broad, Mansell, Short & Baker into one on one contests and they're not used to it.
We need a second ruckman no matter who it is as playing Balta or Astbury there is affecting the structure.
Dare I say it after 2 losses but the rules are definitely having an impact and unless we are prepared to change tact were in trouble.

And 55 fumbles and selling teammates into pressure with garbage handballs to teammates in a worse position.

Think the days of Short & Baker in the same back line could be numbered... :shh

Very easy to.blame the defence, but our issue is up the ground forward line and midfield not winning enough ball , centre clearances pressure etc sooner or later any defence cracks.

Yeah we are getting creamed in the centre.

When we are running through the middle we want to see a leading target. I’m not talking about down the line kicks.
He’s not presenting enough from what I’m seeing. He needs to lead into space. He needs to run up the ground and present at half forward. Not enough IMO
Completely agree on Lynch. He is so slow that he can never get any separation.

Agree. Win just a few more centre clearances and we would have won the game.

I don't think that is Lynch I think he is being told to do that.

That’s generous.
Right now, Jack is twice the player Lynch is.
-
Bit generous to Jack, he has received plenty of tap-ins this year from the hard work of others and has been missing for large chunks of most games so far. Lynch seems to playing a role and brings the ball to ground as much as possible.
That said, I don’t like our forward set up, we really need a hard leading forward to drag a few defenders from the hot spots.
-
Woke up this morning and watch Dimmas presser. Feel better as he was quite positive.
-
I feel like we also had very poor ground presence when the ball dropped in our F50.
Port defenders everywhere. Not enough crumbers.
-
Who is our current forward coach? I feel like lynch is told to be a decoy or draw more defenders in to free up our snaps. Which is not what lynch normally does. He tore port a new one with his aggression not that long ago after being labelled a liability from Lloyd.
I think they need to let wolf out of the cage with lynch and if he gets a 1-2 match suspension for his aggression so be it because Lynch is an absolute unit and opposition defenders need to be poo scared of him

McQualter has returned as our forwards coach this year as well being responsible for ball movement which he held in 2020.
McQualter was our forwards coach back in 2019 then McRae took over in last year (Craig's now at the Hawks).

AFL Report Card, Round 4 2021
Foxsports
12 April 2021
RICHMOND
They almost got there, but this time the Tigers fell two points short in a finals-like atmosphere at Adelaide Oval. They couldn’t get on top of Port’s midfield and let the hosts play their forward territory game for too long. We’re certainly not worried about this team, even after losing two weeks in a row; Richmond lost two in a row early in 2019 and 2020, too.
In the votes
Remarkably six of the top seven players on the ground in the Official AFL Player Ratings were in yellow and black, led by the still-underrated Shai Bolton (22 disposals, one goal and two goal assists, five clearances and 475 metres gained) and Jayden Short (31 disposals, 808 metres gained, 10 intercepts and seven score involvements).
Room for improvement
Tom Lynch could’ve won the game off his boot, but kicked 1.3, while Will Martyn and Rhyan Mansell were both quiet in their debuts. Toby Nankervis has had better games, too.

ONE POSITIVE AND ONE NEGATIVE FROM YOUR CLUB'S ROUND 4 PERFORMANCE
Andrew Slevison
SEN
12 April 2021
Positive: ‘Richmond’-like performance
Richmond was brushed aside by Sydney in Round 3 but were well and truly back in the contest against Port Adelaide last Friday night.
The Tigers absolutely came to play but in the end were agonisingly short of pulling off a character building win which could have helped springboard them forward after the heavy loss to the Swans.
Although it was a defeat, it was a much more ‘Richmond’-like performance which would have pleased Damien Hardwick, especially as they were without the likes of Dion Prestia, Nick Vlastuin and Kamdyn McIntosh.
The Tigers also blooded two debutants - Will Martyn and Ryan Mansell - in a massive game which is another positive sign.
No doubt they will take plenty from that performance.
Negative: Two losses in a row
There’s no sugar-coating it. The Tigers need a win after two losses on the trot.
The current 2-2 situation is certainly not a season breaker for the reigning champs, but in order to correct some wobbles they must win soon.
This Thursday they get the chance to power back into winning form when they meet St Kilda at Marvel Stadium - a combination that consigned them to a 26-point loss in Round 4 last year.

The AFL website reposting the highlights of this game reminded me how much of an idiot of an umpire Deboy is :facepalm. Pinging Houli for HTB after marking a touched ball 50m down field was an absolute shocker :banghead. Add the fact too it gifted Port a goal in the game that was ultimately decided by less than a kick :scream.
The non HTB call on Drew on the outer wing late in the game looks dubious too in hindsight when played just before Aarts was (rightly) pinged. Both had prior, were tackled from behind and illegally disposed of the ball. The non-call lead to Gray's winning goal.
-
Deboy deserved the 10 in this game. The most biased display of umpiring in the history of the game. A Port supporter that won a house in a local footy raffle.
HTF does a cheating geek like him make it to AFL ranks?
-
South Australian is Deboy....
