Match preview: Dockers v Tigers
Alex Malcolm
afl.com.au
June 2, 2015
SUMMARY
The Tigers face a huge task facing the Dockers at Domain Stadium on Friday night. Both sides are coming off a six-day break but the Dockers had a particularly bruising encounter with the Crows in wet conditions last weekend. The Tigers will need to find a way through the Dockers' miserly defence. Aaron Sandilands and the Fremantle midfield have been dominant as well. Nat Fyfe appears unstoppable at the moment. All Australian defender Michael Johnson will become the ninth Docker to play 200 games for the club.
WHERE AND WHEN: Domain Stadium, Friday, June 5, 6.10pm AWST
PAST FIVE TIMES
R13, 2014, Fremantle 16.9 (105) d Richmond 12.13 (85) at the MCG
R17, 2013, Richmond 12.12 (84) d Fremantle 8.9 (57) at the MCG
R5, 2013, Fremantle 12.9 (81) d Richmond 12.8 (80) at Subiaco Oval
R21, 2012, Fremantle 13.16 (94) d Richmond 11.6 (72) at Subiaco Oval
R11, 2012, Fremantle 12.6 (78) d Richmond 9.12 (66) at the MCG
THE SIX POINTS
1. The Dockers won the most recent meeting but the Tigers had more disposals, 407-312, took more marks, 61-51, and took the ball inside 50 more often, 51-37. Nat Fyfe collected the three Brownlow votes with 33 possessions.
2. Fremantle is the No.1 contested marking team in 2015 taking an average of 12.8 per game. Richmond is equal third in the AFL with 11.3 a game.
3. The Tigers are the No.1 team for free kicks with a total of 213, at 23.7 per game. The next best is North Melbourne with 181. Fremantle is ranked equal seventh with 166.
4. The Dockers have won nine out of 14 meetings at Domain Stadium including the past three. The Tigers haven't defeated the Dockers in Perth since 2009.
5. Fremantle has the No.1 defence in 2015 conceding an average of only 62 points per game. The Tigers are ranked seventh conceding 78.2 points per game.
6. Nat Fyfe has vaulted to second in the Official AFL Player Ratings. Richmond's highest ranked player is Shane Edwards in 48th.
IT'S A BIG WEEK FOR … Jack Riewoldt
The Tigers are ranked equal 10th in the AFL for scoring. They've kicked just 109 goals for the season and Riewoldt has 25 of them. He's the only Tiger in double figures for goals this year. The Dockers are the No.1 defence in the competition. Riewoldt needs a big day for the Tigers to kick a winning score.
PREDICTION: Fremantle by 25 points

that's a positive ...certain victory now

Line in the sand game!

Great teams always lose somewhere in a season. Fremantle wont go through the season undefeated. I think we are a chance.
-
Great teams always lose somewhere in a season. Fremantle wont go through the season undefeated. I think we are a chance.
It is shaping to be a low scoring game, they are always winnable.
-
Must continue to play Menadue etc and resist the urge to rush Newman back in. Good experience for the new players. No side is unbeatable however having said that we need a really good start to have a chance of winning.
-
Fremantle are fast starters ....the longer we can stay with them the better our chances are .
-
The moment Newy comes in we will lose
-
l'm happy with the way the side is winning, So l see no need to make changes to the team. They will be better for it :gotigers

And I will continue to tip against them even though it's killing me inside and screwing up my chances of winning!! ;D

Ross Lyon wary of running Richmond Tigers
Brad Elborough
The Age
June 4, 2015
Fremantle have noticed a change in Richmond's game style from the start of the season when they were getting scored off turnovers way too easily.
As the Dockers prepare to play the Tigers at Domain Stadium on Friday night, coach Ross Lyon said they're aware that in recent games, Damien Hardwick has slowed down the way his side moved the ball, with good results.
There's no coincidence too that Richmond's good form has coincided with the return of midfielder Brett Deledio.
"Look, they've (won) three in a row. Like most AFL teams, they run hard," he said.
"They've adjusted their ball movement. They were getting scored off turnover heavily so they're going a bit slower; a lot of short kicks, controlling the ball a little bit more.
"They get good run from behind and their forwards lead up really well. They are really good around the ball.
"Deledio has been really important coming back; (Trent) Cotchin and (Dustin) Martin, (Bachar) Houli and (Jack) Riewoldt and those guys are in really good form so, yeah, we expect a big challenge.
"Deledio back for them is really important. It's just that weight of numbers thing, it's just another one that helps the others. With his return (Brandon) Ellis gets to play a little bit better and gets more support, that's what it's all about."
In the Tigers past three wins, Deledio has averaged 28 possessions and kicked three goals. Ellis has averaged 31 possessions in the same time.
After a gruelling victory over Adelaide last Saturday night, Lee Spurr is the only Docker fighting to be fit in time to play on Friday night.
He could be given until Friday morning to prove he has overcome a "corkie".
With Zac Dawson requiring surgery on a newly broken thumb on Tuesday, his return has been set back as much as two months, meaning managing Luke McPharlin becomes more of a priority.
"We'll look after Luke McPharlin today, just as a precaution obviously with Zac Dawson having his operation yesterday," Lyon said.
"So we'll just be really cautious with him and he'll do light duties but he'll definitely play.
"There's a few we'll just manage a little bit but we'll get them up and going by the end of the session but we're in pretty good nick really."
Tendai Mzungu is waiting on the sidelines should Spurr not get up, but has not played football for a couple of weeks due to WAFL byes and travelling with the side as an emergency.
He has been outstanding for Peel Thunder in the four games that he has played and Lyon said that his pace would be fresh if was called upon to return to AFL ranks.
"(The lack of game time) is a concern and we don't like it because he's had the bye, but it just shows how seriously we take the emergency going over," he said.
"If somebody had gone down, we wanted the next one we thought best in.
"It's not ideal but he's a running machine and he is our best runner really if we are putting it all on the table. There's not many who can outrun him with us or in AFL footy.
"He'll come in fresh and on the ground, if he comes in."

Hot:
Nat Fyfe has scored 94.6 points in the past month –ranked No.1 in the competition. This is the best four-week period of his career to date.
Trent Cotchin was Richmond's highest scoring player last week with 18.9 points.
Not:
Docker Danyle Pearce has averaged just 6.8 points against Richmond, which is his worst output against any club.
Richmond's Troy Chaplin places eighth overall at Richmond, but was the club's fourth-lowest scoring player last weekend from 100 per cent game time.

-
As much as the focus is on Fyfe, the one Docker that most concerns me most as far as us trying to nullify him is Sandilands in the ruck. I hope at least around the ground we go third man up so we can get the ball going our way sometimes.
-
Or their so called 2nd tier mids with Munday, Neale, Hill and Barlow all being very dangerous and game breakers against teams like us
-
Yep, they could all get away from us if we're off or too focused on Fyfe. Ch 7 reckons it'll be a low scoring game. I don't mind that. If we can stay start well or at least stick with them then we'll be in for a show.

EFF YOU UMPIRE
-
Quarter time
Richmond 8.1-49
Fremantle 3.1-19
Goals: Vickery 2, Griffiths 2, Deledio 2, Grigg, Martin
-
New rule interpretation. One called correctly, one incorrectly. Both went to freo.
-
Best quarter 1st I've seen for 20 years! Keep it going boys! :gotigers
-
The Walters free is the problem with the new interpretation
He ducked ever so slightly but doesn't get pinged
While hunt (rightly) gets pinged
-
Freo will come back because they are good. Reckon we'll
Hold on though
-
Wp, early call but TV going good
-
First 20 minutes was unbelieveable. You couldn't fault us.
Last 5-7 mins, we started to become a bit too reactive around the stoppages and made a couple of crucial fumbles that allowed Freo to get goals. Home town umpiring came into play as well ::).
-
THAT'S #$%@ HOLDING THE BALL, UMPIRE! :banghead
-
Ummmm htb????
-
Umpies trying their best to bring Freo back into the gane
-
Great mark Brandon.
Jackkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk :gotigers
That's the first set shot goal from beyond 50 I think he's nailed.
Rich 55
Freo 19

Hey ump, why don't you put on a freo jumper ::).
-
Lmao jumps over vickery.... Penalty against Vickery. Come on umps, you need to be less obvious.
-
:gotigers :birthday
-
Seriously wtf is up with the umpiring. Vickery got coat hangered.
-
Play the percentages, Tigers! Don't keep the ball in in the back half when you're under pressure.
-
Free to TV. Finds Chappy in the centre and he finds Morris 40m on the lead. Goal :gotigers
Rich 61
Freo 26
-
Yeeeeeeeeeeaaaah!!!!! :gotigers
-
STruth Moriss gets one
Shocking kick but who cares
-
Cmon Richmond :clapping :clapping Cmon Richmond :clapping :clapping

That was stupid. Either hit the long target or go the safer short option when everyone is free.
-
Why didn't you keep shepherding Brandon and protect Lids?
-
How can it be holding the ball when he handball
Dumb play though by Lids
-
Jeez. .....

-
Jackkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk :gotigers

Freo 26
A bit lucky there but after all the ones that have gone against us we'll take it.
-
Every time we make a mistake it is the freo pressure. The score is 74 to 26 you nimrods lol. The pressure is ours.
-
Grigg go for the shot at goal.
Rushed,
75 - 26
-
Hmmmm
Between them Cotch & McIntosh stuffed that up
What was Grigg thinking :huh
-
Anyway I can turn the ch7 commentary off????
-
What was that Grigg? The option was short and open and you kick to a Freo player :huh.
-
The only way they looked like scoring was by us stuffing up in defence :banghead.
-
Fyfe gets that by pushing Chaplin over the line before he was in the play.
-
Pathetic by Taylor Hunt,
Dumb dumb footy cost us a goal
And again we give away a soft goal in the last minute of a qtr
-
Half-time
Richmond 8.1 12.3-75
Fremantle 3.1 5.2-32
Goals: Riewoldt 2, Vickery 2, Griffiths 2, Deledio 2, Grigg, Martin, C.Ellis, Morris

HT
75-32
Not happy with that last goal, soft so soft
-
Sensational first half by the Tigers. They just need to hold firm now.
-
Pathetic by Taylor Hunt,
Dumb dumb footy cost us a goal
And again we give away a soft goal in the last minute of a qtr
Almost gave up another by letting the contested ball get over the back but Morris saved the day.
-
How good has c Ellis been ! Like a young cotch
-
Holy Moley Batman!
Can they play another half like that?
Pensive as stuff here.
-
Fyfe gets that by pushing Chaplin over the line before he was in the play.
Totally agree and if you get away with it fine BUT how's Lingy say he used his body beautifully. Get a f$&king clue Lingy and get your head out of Fyfe's ass!
-
Must continue to play the way they have. Can't defend from here. Too far out.
-
Pathetic by Taylor Hunt,

Hunt definitely cracks under pressure deep in the forward line, probably been our worst player. Vlastuin playing well. Likes playing in WA. Rance killing Pav. Maric competing as well as you could want. Jack playing another ripper game. Morris has been leading the way with pressure, absolute beast. Martin killing it. All about the next half now, if we have grown as a team we will continue to attack the game.

Great post
Nailed it

Must continue to play the way they have. Can't defend from here. Too far out.
Yep. Not won yet. Need a big first 10 minutes as Freo will come out fired up and try to play on quickly to get back into the game. Need to match or even better beat them this qtr.

Vickery even presenting well lol.
But Freo will take it up a gear, they won't give up and wouldn't be flag contenders if they couldn't play four quarters. We need to dig in and match it, third quarter will be massive.
-
Fyfe tackled and another one-handed handball ::).
Morris taken high and no free.
-
Ah two chances for a certain goal and we blew it.
-
Fyfe tackled and another one-handed handball ::).
Morris taken high and no free.
They're (umps) going to be just as hard to beat from here.

Well didn't Morris just stuff that up

Goal
Nice team play

Brandon gets the running goal anyway :gotigers
Rich 81
Freo 32
-
Morris should have got a free there
-
Lids held by one arm & Morris taken high = no free.
-
Chaplin stuffs up again
-
Free against Morris when it matters
-
Grimes turning into a real ducker.
-
Griffs almost bounces one through.
82 - 34
-
Hunt told to take his finger out at half time. Great mark
-
Can someone tell Lingy that Freo has done diddly squat in their history. It's not like their Hawthorn or Sydney who have won flags.
-
Chaplin can stuff off.
Sick of hearing about fyfe. how bout our boys ffs
-
another soft goal from a equally stupid free at a stoppage
-
Basil willing on a freo come back, lingy lining up to fluff Fyfe.
-
Fyfe spin and throw, play on.
-
The holding the ball rule doesn't apply to Fyfe.
And where's our advantage, umpire?
-
We seem to have stopped attacking
Trying to defend
We need to keep attacking
-
You can't ping that. Beautiful tackle by jack.
-
Second to the ball now
-
"Grimes high draft pick" - Cometti
He was a PSD pick :huh
-
Kick that doesn't even go 15 and not even marked turns into a goal. Seriously stuff off umps.
-
Really poor kick by dusty
Turn over costs us a goal
Really nervous now
-
:banghead
Too many fumbles at ground level from us in the last 5 minutes. Need to control possession.
-
Playing dumb footy
-
Precentages Dusty. Pick the ball up!
-

Bit hard when he was being dragged down by the jumper.

3/4 time
Richmond 8.1 12.3 13.4-82
Fremantle 3.1 5.2 8.5-53
Goals: Riewoldt 2, Vickery 2, Griffiths 2, Deledio 2, Grigg, Martin, B.Ellis, C.Ellis, Morris
-
How did Grigg not get 50? Fyfe was on the mark, a freo player went to cross it half way then Fyfe ran off and the other bloke stood the mark nearly on Grigg.
-
Really disappointing quarter that
Actuall a really poor 15 minutes
Where have we heard and seen that before
If only Ty had clicked that mark
-
We've won 7 of 9 last qtrs this year. Would be nice if we could hold that trend.
-
We have been good in the last quarters but feel we have fired our best shots and are now out of ammunition. Can we hang on, feel ee are about two goals shortn of being safe, my prediction we lose by 11, call me pessimistic.
-
Need to get our composure back. Panicking under perceived pressure - fumbling and failing to pick the ball up, losing our feet and going to ground, etc ...
You've got to be positive, proactive and win the game, Tiges!
-
We have been good in the last quarters but feel we have fired our best shots and are now out of ammunition. Can we hang on, feel ee are about two goals shortn of being safe, my prediction we lose by 11, call me pessimistic.
We've still got our sub to use.
-
Leaders need to stand up
Cotchin I am talking about you and Lids
-

We've still got our sub to use.
I'm nervous about bringing Menadue into this.
-
Really stupid kick by Lids
Really dumb
-
Wrong option, Lids, and against the gameplan. Dimma hates those kicks.
-
Corey Ellis subbed off.
Menadue on.
-
Unfortunately Lids is from the old school Tigers prior to the "Richmond Way" so those sorts of habits are hard to remove from your game once under pressure.
-
Clever Ivan and Cotch :clapping. Finds Griffs. Misses :scream.
83 - 54
-
More dumb footy
How did Ellis drop that :banghead
-
Trying our best to hand it back to Freo on a platter, c'mon guys, time to ice the cake.
-
We look really lost right now
-
Grab it you idiots :banghead
Some moronic football from us :banghead
-
Just stupid
Stupid :banghead
-
omg you are kidding?!?!??? Umpire in midfield called that. pee off
-
Time for our leaders to stand up and get some control of the ball back.
-
We are in massive trouble
Back line just constantly panicking resulting in turn over after turn over
-
Dont forget how good freo are. The boys are going alright holding on here. Just cant lose
-
Hitouts to advantage: 3 - 30 :help
-
I cant watch this, almost like the players expected to lose so now in front they don't know how to finish it off or maybe more correctly they don't have the confidence to go after the win, just happy to close up shop and hope Freo cant kick a winning score, big mistake.
-
Cotch will kick this -- positive energy didnt work
-
:banghead :banghead
-
JEEEZUZ Geez
-
If there was ever time for captain's goal it is now. Tough shot.
Misses.
84 - 62
-
Dusty icing 30 second shaving a crack.
-
Eeeeedwaaaards!!!!!!!!
-
Titch :woohoo
-
God how we needed that
Pathetic defence by Freo
Great by Edwards
-
That will hurt Freo but with the home crowd it wont stop them, they will keep coming, need to keep attacking.
-
Poor play Jack. Menadue provided the lead and you kick it long to Freo players.
-
Another terrible kick Lids
Turn over Freo goal
-
Dammit we could have stopped that one.
-
:banghead
Poor kick by Lids and then poor defending.
-
Free want it more
-
I think the clock is 5 mins in our favour. As in any longer and we'd be in trouble. I think we'll just hold on.
-
Take your 30 seconds big fella.
-
Will take these stoppages in the f50
-
At 3 quarter time you would have thought that Hardwick would have demanded 30 more minutes of gut busting football given the bye is next week. Surely they can finish the game off and keep their noses in front, you feel if we can nail one more goal it should be enough
-
4 mins were home!!!!!
-
Tyrone
Ices it
-
Good play Titch. Lids then finds TV. Needs to kick this to seal it. Goal lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll :gotigers
Rich 96
Freo 70
-
Stuffing mature win

Thought we were a sneaky chance this week, was even more convinced we were a chance when bookies were offering $2 odds for Freo.
-
Jackkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk :gotigers
Hold on score review
-
Bugger touched :P
97 - 70
-
Really good job running down the clock. Really good win. Freo came hard and we absorbed it. tough hard win from the boys , lets keep it up for the rest of the year
-
Would have beaten anyone tonight. Been playing finals type footy since the pies game. Hope that means we have turned a corner.
-
Richmond are my favourite team me like
-
SIREN! :gotigers :gotigers
Great win! :gotigers

BTW the umpires tryed their hardest to get the Dockers back in the game :thumbsdown
-
We played good football.
Well done to leaders stepping up.
CHannel 7 can get stuffed.
Fremantle coming, fyfe doing this. Pav will kick this goal.
How about THE TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Couple of things:-
*commentators spend most of their time trying to predict momentum shifts - they could not get their head around the fact we simply got too much of a break and now have the maturity to hold it
* cameron ling was exposed tonight - doesn't have a plan b :snidegrin just thought Freo would eventually win but ginga linga- gotta read the tea leaves
* don't play us if you have a milestone game ;D
-
Even fox footy calling out C7's one sided calling :clapping
was ridiculous. barracking for freo the whole game.
-
3 talls up forward worked really well tonight
I recon Griff needed to be subbed out though in the last just so we had that bit of extra run.
-
Final Score
Richmond 8.1 12.3 13.4 15.7-97
Fremantle 3.1 5.2 8.5 10.10-70
Goals: Vickery 3, Riewoldt 2, Griffiths 2, Deledio 2, Grigg, Martin, B.Ellis, C.Ellis, Morris, Edwards.

Best home and away RFC win in ages.
Meticulously planned and disciplined.
First quarter obviously set it all up.
Kudos to the club. :thumbsup

Great teams always lose somewhere in a season. Fremantle wont go through the season undefeated. I think we are a chance.

Richmond become the first team to defeat the Dockers this season. It did it with 36 inside 50s, the fewest by a winning side this season.

Great win, kudos to Dimma and the team. I'll continue to eat humble pie for as long as they continue to serve it. Fantastic effort and I love the disciplined footy we are putting up from the last month.

west Coast are playing so far above themselves, reckon they will fall in a heap.
That said a real DANGER game, we just have to win this!

It was a great win. Best in 2 years, possibly more

Records re-written in yellow and black
Fremantle supporters have become accustomed to winning tight contests under Ross Lyon.
So Richmond’s barnstorming start to the game came as a complete surprise, and the Tigers challenged all sorts of records.
First, and foremost, it was the best first-quarter score against Fremantle during Lyon’s time as coach.
It was also the best first quarter against Fremantle since Geelong overwhelmed the Dockers in the opening stanza of the 2010 semi-final at the MCG.
Finally, it was only the second time in Ross Lyon’s nine-year coaching career that his side had given up eight goals in the first quarter. The only other time it happened was in early 2011 when Essendon kicked 8.2 in the first quarter against Lyon’s Saints.

Watching the replay & it's such a great feeling this morning :snidegrin
That was a great win for the Richmond football club & the supporters against a club undefeated & on their ground with their crowd. But those Tiger supporters who attended done the team proud as Rewoldt acknowledge were terrific.
But thinking that the last 4 wins have been over teams considered as Top 8 & flag contenders makes it all sweeter to keep the media at bay & the other club supporters in hell.
Collingwood
Port Adelaide
Essendon
Fremantle
All the above were supposed to destroy us. Several considered to be premiership contenders :snidegrin
Our players are starting to mature & now know what is required to play as a team & win. The amount of pressure we are putting on teams forcing them to make mistakes everyone used to taunt us about. Our % is of a team playing good football. Another 10 games in these players & their confidence high. They could place themselves in a position to achieve what the Dawks done several years ago unexpected. Beware the Tiger is awake & so is the Tiger Army. ;D
have a nice day. Enjoy it at the bar at the local footy :cheers Wear your colours proudly & don't forget to taunt those other vile supporters who used to taunt us, As their clubs make horrible forced errors & miss easy goals & lose to the Yellow & Black ;D

Two themes spring to mind over the past 4 weeks.
1. Consistency of effort and intensity
2. No passengers
Keep this up and I have no issue with our coach/coaching staff.
You can see every single player even the ones that have a quiet game are having a red hot crack. No weak links. All it takes is one or two not to run hard both ways and bang you get cut up. I don't want to bring negativity into it bc Im on a stuffing high, but I am dreading seeing Newman get back into this side.
and for the first time in Dimmas tenure, 3 big forwards is working for us structure wise. Whichever combination of Vickery/mcBean/Griffiths with jack, they are spreading a lot better and stretching opposition defenders. And I noticed they are now going to the pockets to force stoppages at the right time ie under fierce pressure and when outnumbered, otherwise they are now looking for better options and hitting them up.
Good work all round

Hardwick has hit on the right mix. he has his team but he has added 4 kids to the mix - McIntosh, Ellis, Menadue and McBean. That's the right mix. Hopefully we will see 1 or 2 more get a chance because at some stage the kids above will start to tire. Personally Id like to see the likes of Jayden Short and Daniel Butler get a chance but I fear the kids will be replaced by players like Newman etc.
-
He can't go back playing Newman,Thomas or Petterd surely we look so much better withe kids in.
-
yep spot on, its no coincidence that the overall effort and energy of the side has gone up notches since we brought kids in. A poster nailed it in another thread(may have been you) that when you take Newman, petterd, Lloyd and Gordon out of the side and replace them with hungry and classy kids, things change...
Add Lennon and castagna to the mix too as the season progresses.

I can't tell you all how great this win was.
Being a passionate Richmond supporter who lives in Perth ....this is like beating Carlton x 1000
I own a business 10km from Fremantle . I am surrounded by Dockers supporters. They have been insufferable this year .
The amount of mockery my customers have given me over the course of the year for supporting the tigers is unbelievable .
Can't wait to see their stupid shocked faces as they come in over the next couple of days. I've got a very long memory. One bloke in particular always goes on and on how we have no leadership at the club.
Got quite a bit of teasing in the week leading up to the game .....now my phone has gone completely silent ....I can literary hear crickets .
Running is a major passion of mine - will be running in my favourite tiger singlet that's for sure . Be flying the flag with pride.
Next it's the other local teams turn to face the music - can't wait !!!!

I want to hear Claw's opinion on the game and a couple of the players. Wonder if he went to the game?

Yep.

Actually Claw was the only poster who would put his view across regardless if we won or lost.
You can't acuse claw of being a Dr before a host of others on this site

not true chucky. a lot of us have been here for years consistently posting whether we were winning or not :thumbsup
-
It was as an impressive win as I've seen since Swooper was yelling at our players...but then so was the 10 goal flogging of Hawthorn in 2012...7 weeks later we lost to a team full of 18 year-olds who were 0 -15 when a Rugby League player kicked a goal after the siren. We finished 12th that year. Just sayin'.....

From my point of view I see poster changing there stance when we are winning vs when we are losing. Claw consistently posts his negative view regardless of how we are performing.

yep claw has held the same line for a long time now.....I mostly don't agree with him,but I read what he says and you gotta respect a bloke for staying the course and holding onto his beliefs
-
I also don't agree with everything he says, but he gets a lot of things right.
-
Yep like still maintaining Rance and Edwards are average. At least most posters can admit they are wrong at times. Strange lot in here..

you have to give credit when and where it is due. at the moment the team is playing well. you cant criticize their effort at the moment. someone cant always be negative and they cant always be positive. attitudes to performance should change depending on results effort commitment etc etc. when their is little effort they deserve to be criticized if they play the way they have played the last 4 weeks they deserve credit and positive reinforcement. :thumbsup

exactly.. I think what they're saying is that you have to stick to you pigheaded views no matter how wrong you may be. If you're big enough to admit your wrong, you're a douche. As I said - strange lot

Yep spot on 2 big factors also are:
1. Defensive positioning and pressure
2. Team selection. (Been a while since we've bagged the club for picking Petterd, Gordon, Newman, Lloyd, Arnot etc.) finally we are getting our best team on the park and not favouring players that should have retired and should not have been picked up.

claw doesn't post when we win
That is most certainly not true.Win lose or draw ive posted my thoughts. In fact i have gone out of my way to post when we win in fear of being accused of doing exactly the above.
I decided about 5 6 weeks ago ? to stop posting on here on a regular basis. Too many hassles for one. Secondly i had little more to say i had made what points i wanted to make.Icould see no point in all the nit picking.
This is the first post ive done in that time and it will probably be awhile before i post again.
Fremantle game. Arrived with 10 minutes to go in the first so missed most of the first quarter unfortunately.Have seen replay.
Will say i was very impressed with their effort and i congratulate them on a top effort.
Imo it is the defensive side of the game that has improved. we seem to have found a decent defensive system and are playing to it pretty well.Individually most are running hard both ways tackling and just working harder for each other and putting heads over the ball.
Yep like still maintaining Rance and Edwards are average. At least most posters can admit they are wrong at times. Strange lot in here..
I think i conceded at least 18months ago that Rance had become a very good player. What i have done is stand by my comments on him along the way. How quickly you forget the falling over, the horrid 1v1 efforts, the constant miss timed fists and the getting caught out of position and the poor kicks.I refuse to retract any of those comments he was poor in lots of areas. He deserved all the criticism he got.
These things still happen to a much lesser degree. Parts of his game are elite, other parts are still pretty average IMO.
I still maintain we need to find 2 quality kpds and have Alex play the third tall defender role if we are to become a premiership side.Thats not saying Rance cant play kp hes done it very well in recent times.
Edwards i may have to eat a little humble pie we will see. This yr he has been in the main very good. The only poor game i can think of was against port.
My trouble with Edwards is, iv'e seen him 3 or 4 times thru his career string together good games, only to slip back to regular mediocrity.
While im prepared to say that this yr hes been great!!!! I will reserve judgment until he can finally string good seasons together. I will be honest im waiting for the bubble to burst with him, as it has done in the past.
On the team and list over all. 4 in a row and playing some good footy. That said i think we need to improve on several players if we are to challenge. I have never been a believer that winning actually solves problems. Usually it just papers over what really needs to be done.
We can always be better and imo we need to be much better still in several areas. I won't go into players its been done to death. I will say though i was very disappointed with both Vickery and Griffiths last night.. Both started very well and both invariably faded to obscurity almost. Fremantle had just one kpd for three quarters and it was disappointing one of these two could not get off the chain and play a blinder.
Watched several players closely and was not impressed. some things dont change despite the winning.
Any way good luck to all, happy posting and i will say hi when next i pop in here.

Claw before you go on your sabbatical any update opinion on Morro?

All reasonable comments except I disagree with the assessment of Vickery and Griffiths. They won the game for us in the first quarter with four goals between them. After the first quarter and a half the ball hardly entered our forward fifty with any speed to give them any opportunity to be one out. It actually hardly entered our forward fifty at all. I think we had a total of 36 entries total for the match, the lowest of any winning team this year. So they both hardly had a chance to dominate in our forward line. The team did well to stop Freo from scoring despite their domination of the ruck and clearances.
Agree with most your other comments.

Rance is the best defender in the game at the minute- pretty simple. Spin it anyway you like, you were wrong about Rance and you are still to stupid to admit it. You say he has improved which blind Freddy can see but you still say he does heaps wrong, but if you compare him to other KPD he is elite. No one on here said he was a star from day one but some including me could see he had something special in him that told us he was going to be a player. His attack on the ball, his ability to compete in the air and on the ground and his uncanny ability to read the play a second before most others could. Something that you missed and that's fine but to sit back now and still claim that same poo as you were back then shows that you are to pigheaded to admit you may have missed this one...Saying we could use other defenders is just a deflection, of course we could and every other side could, but if we had better on ballers too we could play Cotch and Dusty forward permanently but the reality is sides only have a certain amount of stars. You live in fairy land.
As for Edwards, he has had a very good year and very good games for the last 4 years. Good players have bad games and bad periods through their careers but they are considered by most people that know anything about the game as good players. Especially Edwards type of player, they flash in and out of games but also in and out of seasons but Edwards is becoming better in staying involved in games longer and in seasons longer.
Both players would get a game in every side in the AFL without doubt and both would be in the AA squad of 40 if the squad was picked today.

Yeah that ones a bit of a cop out. What team wouldn't like to use their best defender as the 3rd tall? Geelong do it with Harry Taylor and that's about it. Maybe Hawks as well but Gibson, Lake and Frawly are all good enough to be a teams number 1 defender.
Just because Rance would be better suited to the 3rd tall role doesn't take away from his ability to be number 1

Was that craw? I thought someone had scanned the Age Sunday edition or something

Woah, talk about confidence! One keen punter has thrown $40,000 on Freo to beat Richmond, hoping to pick up a cool $48,800!
Can Fremantle Dockers continue their hot streak? Or will Richmond FC cause a massive upset, leaving a sour taste in the mouth of this punter!?

Of course had he put $2k on the Tigers to win then he'd have made $8k either way

Hi guys, first post.
After the final siren, Channel Seven reporter Matthew Richardson interviewed Riewoldt and Martin. I'm interested in seeing this footage again. If anybody can provide it, it will be appreciated.
Thanks

Sorry.
Nobody here can provide that.

Rance, Dusty, Titch & Brandon Ellis all made this round's Team of the Week on the AFL website.
ALEX RANCE (Richmond) - Rance's opponent Matthew Pavlich might have dropped some marks uncharacteristically, but the implied pressure of Rance would surely have played a role. Rance was superb in his match-up with the Fremantle skipper, keeping him to two marks and 0.2.
DUSTIN MARTIN (Richmond) - The dynamic midfielder spent time going head-to-head with Fremantle star Nat Fyfe and he came out on top. Finished with 34 possessions, five clearances and five inside 50s.
SHANE EDWARDS (Richmond)- Is arguably the Tigers' most improved player again this season after a big 2014. A genuine midfielder now, Edwards had 25 possessions against Fremantle and stood up under pressure to use the ball well.
BRANDON ELLIS (Richmond) - Overshadowed only by teammate Dustin Martin on Friday night, Ellis continued his excellent season with 26 possessions at Domain Stadium, barely wasting a disposal.
