Based on what I saw back in November I would be surprised if Craigieburn is finished by the 21st Feb.
Hope it is but knowing how the building industry can sometime's work especially on Govt projects ...well :whistle :whistle ;D

gee, now I'll know how the stuff from the northern suburbs felt about going to waverely :o
-
What a stupid place to have it :-X
-

I agree
We seem intent on just handing the SE suburbs over to Hawthorn without a fight.
Its wrong strategy always has been.

TOTALLY AGREE,
apparently entry by gold coin donation or by wearing a pair of moccasins :lol

It's in Moe this year?? ???

Well, for the first time in maybe 12ish years, I wont be going. Hated the change from Punht Road ("is our home"), but travelled to Jells Park. Sadly wont be going to Craigieburn
-
Jells Park and Craigieburn are equally miles away from my place so makes no difference to me.
Will miss the sequel to your awesome videos from last family day 2JD.
-
considering the investment in craigieburn as part of the clubs future, prob not the STUPIDEST place to have it ::), however, rather than run the risk of disenfranchising those that live on the other side of the earth perhaps we could explore other means to make our mark at Craigieburn, as in intra clu8b scratch matches et al...and get the family day to Punt rd if practical although it's prob reserved for cricket hence completely ruled out
-
bottom line is that it doesn't matter where they have it people are going to be unhappy.
What's the old saying? You can't please everyone
For me Jell's Park was an hour + trip
Craigieburn is 40 mins if the ring road is good
So it's not like either is around the corner for me ;D
But as bojangles mentions the Club is investing in the Craigieburn - seriously you cannot expect to have a brand new state of the art facility given to you for $0 without having to give back something in return
As for the handing over the SE burbs to Hawthorn - the supporters Richmond have are there they aren't going anywhere - they've had the last what is it 5 or so family days out there, they have the Wantrina Club . You could almost use the same argument for every area in Melbourne.
Craigieburn is one of the fastest growing areas in the Metro area - so there is a massive untapped market there, the club would be crazy not to target it.
In a perfect world it should be at Punt Road but while cricket is played there during summer it is near impossible to schedule a family day at our HOME...

well said WP. On top of the cricket, Punt Road is also currently undergoing the reconstruction so it's a mess. No use holding it there this year. Wouldn't hurt to hold it there next time when it is all finished and brand new just to show it off. Either that or hold the pre-xmas training session at Punt Road next year when it would be lookign brand spanking new and impressive.
-
man they can hold it on Mars and i'll be there.

Have 2 family days

Anyone from OER going on Sunday?
Yeah I am going ...
It should be great...it's going to be hot and I hate the heat .... yep I am going ;D
-
I'll be attending with my little fellow and brother. Should be a good day as always. I'm interested to see the new training venue too!
-
I'm working, plus Craigieburn is whoop whoop for me. ;)
-
The Grand Stand isnt ready and wont be open, they still havent started the seating in front of the stand.
Hope its not as windy as it was up there today........
-
From the RFC site...
A bus service will run continuously from Craigieburn train station to Highgate Reserve from 10am until 3pm on Sunday 21 February.
The local council probably in conjunction with the RFC has notified Craigieburn residents by post about our Family Day. So a few locals may turn up as well.

That was Swan St today TFL :help - Seriously the skunk supporters are so bogan they still wear their beanies even on a day like this. LMAO @ that one I saw walking along the Yarra.
-
For the intra-club I parked in Aitken Bvd which is the road one pass the highgate entrance (has traffic lights which are not yet working). Plenty of spaces available compared to the main car park which was chockers and just a 500m stroll across the empty field to the ground.
Looking forward to reading reports and goss ;) plus hopefully some photos from those going today :).
-
mail is from Family Day, way too hot and dusty
-
Why they have it over there in whoop whoop when the tiger demographic is in the Cranbourne, Waverley and surrounding areas is a mystery
-
Should be at Punt Road, or even bettter Yarra Park outside the G, would be fantastic . They could utilise the facilites at the G. And easy for all supporters to get there
-
mail is from Family Day, way too hot and dusty
Clearly I wasn't at the same family day ;D ;D
I cannot stand the heat and I reckon compared to yesterday's humidity and heat today wasn't bad at all. Agree it was a bit dusty and that was because (and only the club can explain this) it wasn't held on the main oval or the secondary oval it was held on the land in front of the 2nd oval which is supposed to have a 3rd oval built on it (a soccer pitch IIRC) one day but for now is just dirt and "tuffs" of grass .
Very good numbers; a few thousand I reckon.
Biggest problem they had IMHO were firstly the autograph queues streched on and on and were slow moving, secondly there is little shade out there at the moment while they are growing trees and the fact the club didn't organise enough seats for people.
I wasn't there for all of it as I had to be somewhere else
Why they have it over there in whoop whoop when the tiger demographic is in the Cranbourne, Waverley and surrounding areas is a mystery
Hmmmmmmm gee let me think.... ;D ;D perhaps it has something to do with the fact the club has had built for it one of the best training venues in the competition that will also end up being the best VFL venue that our kids will play at when at Coburg and it hasn't cost them one solitary $

It cannot be a Punt Road while it's a construction zone and it is bloody hard to have it there when cricket is played there during summer. As for Yarra Park - Jack if you are volunteering to pay the over the top fee and permit fees that the Council would charge then yeah let's have it a Yarra Park
As I said once before: It deons't matter where it is held people are going to complain
-

And alienate thousands of members in the process.
They can still train there, but they should centralise functions like these
Or are they trying to alienate what little supporter base they have left?
-

I think the argument would be that they are trying to grow the membership base b taking on a new area that no other club has their hooks into?
I don't think Jells Park was a central location for the masses either?
So for the last 2 years were they trying to alienate the members when they had the family day at Jells Park. Remebering thad Jells Park for some of us was over an hours drive to get to? I am sure the asnwer was NO. But they held out there anyway.
Today it took me just over 40 mins to get to Craigieburn -still not great but that's the way it was.
As I said the location isn't going to suit everyone. Some people will love it, others will and hate it and some dont care.
In a perfect world it should be at Punt Road but sadly in today's AFL it aint a perfect world

will be at punt road next yr, to unveil the new facilities
-
Sounded like the players especially the younger one were very friendly to supporters.
Did Hardwick give a speech and did he say anything new or was it the same message he's been pushing all summer - following the blueprint, moving forward, and 6-12-24 months for gameplan to click?
Oh and any goss about injuries - Foley, Griffiths how far away from playing?
-

They're training there, so they have a presence
Bring back to Punt Road :thumbsup
-
Just an idea but wouldn't the clever thing be to do would be to rotate venues between Punt Rd, Craigieburn and Jells Park every 3 years and cover all fan bases?
It sounded like this year the Club wanted to show off the new facilities at Craigieburn. Remember the intra-club was on a Friday arvo so most supporters wouldn't have been able to make that game. This would've been a first chance for many to see Highgate up close and be impressed by it.

New den for Tigers
* Cheryl Critchley
* From: Herald Sun
* February 21, 2010 8:43PM
TIGER fans flocked to the club's first family day at its new Craigieburn facility yesterday.
Ben Cousins proved his star power, attracting big autograph queues for the second year.
Cousins drew the loudest cheer when presented to the 5500-strong crowd until Graham Polak, still recovering from a brain injury, brought the house down.
No. 3 draft pick Dustin Martin also won a big roar, as did star Brett Deledio.
The crowd didn't come close to last year's Cousins-inspired 9000 at Jells Park, but was equal to if not better than previous efforts.
Fans travelled from all over Melbourne to Craigieburn's Highgate Reserve, where Richmond will do some training. Its VFL side, Coburg, will play there, starting on April 24 against the Box Hill Hawks.
Diehards braved the heat to queue for at least an hour for autographs, and probably more for the sunglass-clad Cousins.
Few seemed fussed the Tigers had finished 15th last year and lost yet another coach in Terry Wallace. Many still wore Matthew Richardson's No. 12, despite the star forward hanging up his boots.
Richmond president Gary March said while the club was rebuilding it would not be uncompetitive.
"It's about the future but we are still expecting to be ultra-competitive this year," he told the throng.
New coach Damien Hardwick vowed to build a strong side from the ground up.
"Every Richmond person must understand to get a successful side up and going, you need to build a strong foundation," he said. "There will be no shortcuts."

To me the SE is whoop whoop so all is good.
And people are strange over that side of town hehe.
-
the 5500-strong crowd
Sheesh that's a good turn-up. I thought beforehand we'd be lucky to get 2000-3000. The loyalty of our supporters is amazing :clapping.

I don't think Dimma needs to speak publicly again this year lol. His message is always consistent.
I wish Gary would stay away from talking about football. Ultra-competitive isn't the greatest choice of words a week after being pulverised by a top side :P.

you haven't heard of nation building froarsy, one day the whole world will be Y&B :gotigers :bow :gotigers

Great day. The Tiger faithful turned up in large numbers as usual and I noticed a lot of locals wandering through and enjoying the atmosphere. I noticed that some of them went and bought merchandise and seemed excited about partaking :thumbsup
I went with my old man, brother and little fellow and was able to secure the autographs from many of the 'peripheral players' very easily without having to join the massive lines that we would have to gain the autographs from Lids, Cuz and co. Roberts was wandering around so we grabbed his signature immediately. He doesn't look overweight any longer and is as dark as the ace of spades from living in the sun drenched Alice. Seemed a really nice bloke.
Browne, Gourdis, Hislop and Connors were sitting at another table looking a bit lonely so we ran over there early on in the piece. Connors always strikes a tad arrogant and gives the impression that he finds the whole 'giving up my time for the masses' a noticeable chore. The other three were happy to chat to the kids and talk. I wonder if this is really Connors problem - bad attitude which makes him hard to coach. ???
The Craigeburn facility looks like it will be terrific. The main oval was beautiful and the stands will be a great place to sit and watch.
Where the Family Day was situated was a little exposed but there was plenty of room to roam and mingle. The presentation was fairly tame with March letting us know that wins were certainly high on the agenda regardless of the fact we are developing. I read that as - 'be prepared for a year of pain where we will strive to win but in reality will struggle'. Could be just me though ;) Hardwick is not an inspiring speaker and sold the same 'blueprint'/ 'foundation'/ 'no-short cuts' speech. It is obvious that all admin and coaching staff are unified with their message and approach which is pleasing to see.
Of the players Cuz, Jack, Lids and Martin received huge cheers while Polak played up to the crowd and eclipsed them all. We have some real height in the team now and a hell of a lot of youth. Looking at the squad we are a group of skinny kids! The group are baby faced and the amount of 'P Plates' in the car park is amazing. I think our future will be bright but we just will not be able to compete with most other teams in terms of size and experience - that was very clear.
Once the jumper presentations were over some of the players hanged around to sign autographs including Vickery, Tambling, Roberts, Griffith, Astbury, Nason and so more of the young brigade. I was really impressed by the way Bling hung back long after the other big named players left. He looks to have added size to his frame and looks mature compared to most of the team.
All in all and good day and I was pleased to at least get to see what everyone was talking about regarding the new training facility.
Stripes

Great report Stripes :thumbsup.
When you got Griffiths autograph did you get a chance to ask him when he'll be right to play a game?
-
Great report Stripes. Summed up well.
I attended my first family day and had a great time with the family.
Was very dusty as mentioned ad nauseum but on the whole very well organised.
Connors always strikes a tad arrogant and gives the impression that he finds the whole 'giving up my time for the masses' a noticeable chore. The other three were happy to chat to the kids and talk. I wonder if this is really Connors problem - bad attitude which makes him hard to coach. ???
I totally agree with the above however.
Connors struts when he walks like he is God's gift to the masses and really seemed non plussed by it all.
Here's a tip Daniel, you have achieved Jack poo to show such arrogance in front of the Tiger faithful.
Stop acting like a rockstar wannabe and get a kick in the seniors.
One promising NAB Cup game is just the start of a long season ahead.
Stop prancing about & roll up the sleeves to help your club become a powerhouse of the AFL once more.
Is it that much to ask to show some enthusiasm towards young folks who support you?
Really you do have to wonder.. :P

I wonder if DM chooses to 'upgrade' his number in a year or 2? Might make these boots even more of a collectors item then!
