Why they have it over there in whoop whoop when the tiger demographic is in the Cranbourne, Waverley and surrounding areas is a mystery

Should be at Punt Road, or even bettter Yarra Park outside the G, would be fantastic . They could utilise the facilites at the G. And easy for all supporters to get there

mail is from Family Day, way too hot and dusty

Clearly I wasn't at the same family day  ;D ;D

I cannot stand the heat and I reckon compared to yesterday's humidity and heat today wasn't bad at all. Agree it was a bit dusty and that was because (and only the club can explain this) it wasn't held on the main oval or the secondary oval it was held on the land in front of the 2nd oval which is supposed to have a 3rd oval built on it (a soccer pitch IIRC) one day but for now is just dirt and "tuffs" of grass .

Very good numbers; a few thousand I reckon.

Biggest problem they had IMHO were firstly the autograph queues streched on and on and were slow moving, secondly there is little shade out there at the moment while they are growing trees and the fact the club didn't organise enough seats for people.

I wasn't there for all of it as I had to be somewhere else

Why they have it over there in whoop whoop when the tiger demographic is in the Cranbourne, Waverley and surrounding areas is a mystery

Hmmmmmmm gee let me think....  ;D ;D perhaps it has something to do with the fact the club has had built for it one of the best training venues in the competition that will also end up being the best VFL venue that our kids will play at when at Coburg and it hasn't cost them one solitary $

It cannot be a Punt Road while it's a construction zone and it is bloody hard to have it there when cricket is played there during summer. As for Yarra Park - Jack if you are volunteering to pay the over the top fee and permit fees that the Council would charge then yeah let's have it a Yarra Park

As I said once before: It deons't matter where it is held people are going to complain

And alienate thousands of members in the process.
They can still train there, but they should centralise functions like these
Or are they trying to alienate what little supporter base they have left?

I think the argument would be that they are trying to grow the membership base b taking on a new area that no other club has their hooks into?

I don't think Jells Park was a central location for the masses either?

So for the last 2 years were they trying to alienate the members when they had the family day at Jells Park. Remebering thad Jells Park for some of us was over an hours drive to get to? I am sure the asnwer was NO. But they held out there anyway.

Today it took me just over 40 mins to get to Craigieburn -still not great but that's the way it was.

As I said the location isn't going to suit everyone. Some people will love it, others will and hate it and some dont care.

In a perfect world it should be at Punt Road but sadly in today's AFL it aint a perfect world

Sounded like the players especially the younger one were very friendly to supporters.

Did Hardwick give a speech and did he say anything new or was it the same message he's been pushing all summer - following the blueprint, moving forward, and 6-12-24 months for gameplan to click?

Oh and any goss about injuries - Foley, Griffiths how far away from playing?

Just an idea but wouldn't the clever thing be to do would be to rotate venues between Punt Rd, Craigieburn and Jells Park every 3 years and cover all fan bases?

It sounded like this year the Club wanted to show off the new facilities at Craigieburn. Remember the intra-club was on a Friday arvo so most supporters wouldn't have been able to make that game. This would've been a first chance for many to see Highgate up close and be impressed by it.

New den for Tigers

    * Cheryl Critchley
    * From: Herald Sun
    * February 21, 2010 8:43PM

TIGER fans flocked to the club's first family day at its new Craigieburn facility yesterday.

Ben Cousins proved his star power, attracting big autograph queues for the second year.

Cousins drew the loudest cheer when presented to the 5500-strong crowd until Graham Polak, still recovering from a brain injury, brought the house down.

No. 3 draft pick Dustin Martin also won a big roar, as did star Brett Deledio.

The crowd didn't come close to last year's Cousins-inspired 9000 at Jells Park, but was equal to if not better than previous efforts.

Fans travelled from all over Melbourne to Craigieburn's Highgate Reserve, where Richmond will do some training. Its VFL side, Coburg, will play there, starting on April 24 against the Box Hill Hawks.

Diehards braved the heat to queue for at least an hour for autographs, and probably more for the sunglass-clad Cousins.

Few seemed fussed the Tigers had finished 15th last year and lost yet another coach in Terry Wallace. Many still wore Matthew Richardson's No. 12, despite the star forward hanging up his boots.

Richmond president Gary March said while the club was rebuilding it would not be uncompetitive.

"It's about the future but we are still expecting to be ultra-competitive this year," he told the throng.

New coach Damien Hardwick vowed to build a strong side from the ground up.

"Every Richmond person must understand to get a successful side up and going, you need to build a strong foundation," he said. "There will be no shortcuts."

the 5500-strong crowd
Sheesh that's a good turn-up. I thought beforehand we'd be lucky to get 2000-3000. The loyalty of our supporters is amazing  :clapping.

I don't think Dimma needs to speak publicly again this year lol. His message is always consistent.

I wish Gary would stay away from talking about football. Ultra-competitive isn't the greatest choice of words a week after being pulverised by a top side  :P.
