Title: Former Tiger, success stories - 1985 - 2010.
Post by: Ox on April 30, 2010, 12:48:51 AM
Seeing if we cn name any players who either;

1-went on to play 1/200 deciorated games elsewhere
2-Made a career of coaching with regular finals appearances
3-Anything!

Excluding Malthouse and Balme as they were from previous eras,I'll say Maxfield
but he really didn't set the world on fire at Sydney.

Fire away.

BT left in 1985. Ancient history though.

Ottens would be pretty happy with two premiership medallions. A rare ex-Tiger to gain success at another club in recent times. However we wouldn't have cared if we had got something in return from the picks we gain in the trade. Right trade; wrong draft selections.

Rodan despite a great effort to come back from two ACLs is only brought up when he has a few good games. Funny how there was no media attention bagging us for letting him go when he was dropped back to the SANFL last year.

Peter Wilson became frustrated with our lack of success in the early 90s and return to WA to play in the Weagles premiership teams.

We got nothing in return for Lambert heading north to the Bears IIRC.

Maxfield seemed the biggest loss at the time given we had finally returned to the finals after 13 years in the wilderness.

When it comes down to it we haven't struggled for the past 25 years because we did a Freo and allowed good players to walk to other clubs.

Benny Gale had a successful tenure as PA president.
Hopefully it transcends to our club.

Craig Lambert was assistant coach at Brisbane during their three-peat.

Maxfield at Syney.

Um.. :-[

Lambert did not play as well as he played at Richmond when he joined Brisbane. Trent Nichols struggled at WCE until he returned to us. Chris Bond was not the player he was when he joined Freo. Hogg struggled at Fitzroy. Maxfield was good at Sydney. Ottens is the clear standout.

Nick Daffy....................I have no idea if he was successful at anything after Richmond, but he couldn't have been any bloody worse than his last years at RFC were  :lol

At business yes, but he didn't show too much in his 1 game for the Swans.   :lol

He did nicely out of footy - I'm not sure footy did well out of him though
Lots of ability, no application  :banghead

I don't think he wanted to leave though.  He was a good player.

As a HF Daffy was at his best but he blindly kicked out of the midfield often straight to the opposition :scream.

The Carl Peterson talk has gone quiet in the media now he's been dropped. Patto no loss either if he can't get a game with Riewoldt out. Didn't St Kilda recruit him as a tall forward?

Its a good question that poses a couple more...

i) Is the reason so few of our players move on and have success because we ruin them?
ii) If almost all the players we have doubts about fail elsewhere, should we be trusting our judgement and cutting them sooner?

Barry Young went to Essendon after he left us.

Had a few serviceable years and probably would have played in a Premiership in 99 had it not been for the Cheats pulling a rabbit out of a hat in the Prelim that year.
Moved on to Hawthorn in 2000 and I think that was about it.

Tim Powell was another former Tiger who actually did play in a Grand Final in 1993 for the Cheats, but it says alot when blokes like Powell were in your best 20 as it was in those days and they got flogged by 44 points.

We've just about gone through the lot of players who forged successful careers after leaving Richmond.

Other than Broderick Gale and to a lesser extent Bond and Harrison (geez that last one hurt) are there any players who in that same 1985-2010 era crossed over to Tigerland and played at least 4 seasons of regular football. :shh

Ben Holland

Would hardly call his career at Melbourne successful.
Only seemed to play good games against us. 2004 on a Friday night at the G in Round 2 and in 2007 when we won our first game of the season was the only trier in a poor Melbourne side that night. stuffn mercenary.

Greg Stafford was good for us IMO. Can't remember what we gave up though.

My apologies CR I was referring to players who played at the Tigers for four years after transferring from another club even though Holland was with us for 8 or 9 seasons. :thumbsup
