Just putting the news :( here for those that missed the Coburg game today. Griffs off early in the third quarter with a shoulder after kicking 2 goals in the first half. He spent the rest of the game on the bench with the left shoulder iced and strapped up apparently.
Hopefully for Griffs and our sake his shoulder is not as bad as it looked. A real shame if he has re-injured his left shoulder.

Any news on this?

Drafted busted, Busted again, What type of injury ?? same as he was drafted with.
result another bad mistake. We have another player who willnot make AFL selection because we draft broken & fragile players
Another Cotchin ?? drafted with ankle problems & continues to have ankle problems :banghead
-
Mmmm, bit of a worry, hope he comes good, poor bugger.

Cotchin only did his ankle prior to draft camp and has had achilles and hip injuries since. Not the same injury repeated.
-
Doesn't look good to be honest but before anyone starts burning the house down and blaming past mistakes lets find out the diagnosis.
From the report the game was shot for Coburg on the scoreboard so maybe he was taken off as precautionary. If it was structural I don't think the ice would have been used and I think he may have been in a sling? May not be as bad as we think but I aint a doctor.

If the prognosis is the shoulder's gone again questions definitely deserve to be asked.
Other clubs avoided him because of his shoulder concerns but we took the punt.
Looks like the gamble has backfired.
We anxiously await the outcome..

Judd was drafted with a dodgy shoulder and did his shoulder again once he was drafted. Give it time, you don't even know if it's something serious.

Big difference between a midfielder doing their shoulder and a power forward who relies on their contested marking I can assure you.

Right so if it is his shoulder we might as well tell the 18 year old he might as well not bother coming back because he's done for.
Great positivity. :scream ::)

couldn't have done it badly though, from memory he played round 2 and never looked back. Can't recall him missing many games due to a shoulder.
Considering he heabutted the ground in angst its safe to assume griff knew it wasn't good :(

oh dear a sensitive one. ive already been lambasted on this site at draft time just thought id let those who know better know. ya know when one claims something its always hindsight well before the dim wits claim its easy in hindsight as always happens i thought id get in first.
will repeat again i thought bastinac an A grader along with bartlett also thought black and carlisle safer better kpp options. in the past i have let comments go and refused to pull my own chain but theres far to many stuff wits who are ready to jump in and give it to ya so why not let em know.
i have always stood by what i say and have copped it on the chin when ive been wrong so with that eff off dim wit.

So instead of supporting a kid who might have busted his shoulder you're going get on your ego boost of the week and toot your own horn. I liked Bastinac pre-draft but that means eff all right now when we have our own planned future power forward with a potentially serious shoulder injury. But no, lets write him off after 6 games of the season.
How effing selfish and effing typical Richmond mentality of the past 30 years.

ok thats fine, i too have no doubt bastinac will be top self but i also feel list balance demanded we take some talls and wont write off griffiths just yet
-
Agreed the prognosis may not be favourable but we are 7 weeks into a new season regarding this kid. If this time next year he has not debuted then may the alarm bells ring.
Comparing Griffiths to Bastinac right now does nothing and gains nothing.

whos written him off sheesh ive seen little enough of him. i just felt at that important pick there were safer options.
what little i did see of griffiths the big concern was his lack of over head marking or contested marks and he only ever seemed to get it on the lead. all this from a 200cm or close to it, and close to 100 kg kid playing against runts.
i dunno i dont just bag for bagging sake i have my reasons always.

whose written him off? :lol
u just stuck ur neck out saying "bastinac anyone?" u also rated carlisle and black higher as KPP, so in other words u are saying u feel its a mistake we took him ahead of those 3 at least. and thought u'd get in early to prove ur prowess as a talent spotter no?
'sheesh' ::)
-
saw this kid for a half today and he had every right to be drafted at the pick he was. Bastinac, good player, but he isnt some one you can build a team around. we had every right to take a risk on him and i couldnt care less if he takes two years to get his body ,he will be a unit. Every luck to him though he had an intent and desire that few other players had today, and he loves a contest. You can just tell that he will do everything in his power to get back to his best.
Why shouldnt we take risks? conservatism gets you know where. Bastinac will be a so and so midfielder big deal, dime a dozen. The current north side will not achieve any real success in the next ten years dont worry about that.

read what l stuffn say ""drafted with ankle problems & continues to have ankle problems""
Had injuries while playing with Knight season 2007 & played very few games, drafted with less than 2 hand full of games from 2007
Broke his foot with Knights in finals before the draft, had achilles problems recovering prior draft, had achilles problem after draft, had hip problem, had achilles problem same side, achilles problem other side, still has achilles problems & is slower than billy the goat at present because of what :sleep
what is it that your disputing cause he is still suffering achilles problems. :sleep

Everyone in the football world knew Griffiths was a high risk & so of course Richmond will take the risk yep
& what happens ::) the football world was correct so why does Richmond draft these players
Hey best wishes if he recovers & becomes a Fred Cook but how many players is our club going to have missing half seasons, full seasons, our list is full of injured players & rebels now
Griffiths aint even played a AFL game & his going to get smashed in them shoulders in a KP 6 times a game.
His going to miss a month now (min) so it was a stupid gamble when we have a very bad list to take RISKS
Richmond needs 95% of thier list playing or we will fall behind lower clubs again & it be another 10 years before something clicks.

u write some interesting stuff and seem to have relevant opinions ie cotch comments are fair although unpopular. My issue is how quickly you jump to the negative without necessarily offering the alternative. I sometimes get the impression you like to jump on this forum and throw hangranades to get a reaction. Not genuine at all. Not very funky monky.

josh kennedy of the WCE type also had shoulder problems as a junior being a KPP. going smoothly now.

cotchin didn't play many knights games in his draft year cos he's a private school boy and is obliged to play for PEGS when the two clashes. much like scully with haileybury, hardly played any TAC until late in the season.

No they didn't
He went in for a reco, but the doctor found when doing the procedure that he only needed a clean up
There is no way he'd be playing football so early in the season if he'd had a reco

I think he may have already had the other shoulder recoed, a year or two ago.

For sure. I did find a few similar articles that also mentioned "serious shoulder surgery pre-draft" but none of them elaborated on it. One link that mentioned it was to an article on him in the Herald Sun prior to the draft but the link was broken. Safe to say he certainly had some work done and it was before the draft so Carlton knew beforehand and still took him. He is actually a good example of why the risk we took with Griffiths was worth it and that we may need to be patient in developing him. Not everyone steps up to the plate in their first year or 2 and it doesn't only apply to big blokes although they do seem more prone to taking longer to develop.
-
What are you talking about Smokey; one or two years.
They have two or three games max to show what they got otherwise their gone
-
Should wait until the doctor's prognosis before making broad statements about his playing future.

What a circus.
Does anyone know the medical history of Griffiths? No.
Does anyone know the extent of teh injury sustained? No.
Absolute circus.
FYI.
Griffiths has had no season ending injury for the past 3 seasons since playing at TAC Cup level.
2007 was given a chance at the end of the season at 16 years old. Did OK.
2008 Played 8 games along with National U/18's championships as bottom age.
2009 Played 10 games along with National U/18's championship as top age.
The kid has never been restricted from playing his last 3 seasons. He's had a niggling shoulder injury since 2008. He was however restricted in playing last year to his shoulder, pulling out of all school football as the toll it had was too great playing with Ranges and Vic Metro.
He'll need to be managed properly as well as strengthened for him to play consistent football, he's 18/19 and has an eternity to go. Grown men running scared cause of Walker and Rusling history. There are as many success stories as there are failures. Anyone worth their breath would know Griffiths was a steal at 19.
Relax go through it.

Yes, it was reported that he went in expecting a reco but they found it wasnt needed. If he had a reco he wouldnt have been playing seniors for coburg this soon.

:pray :pray, really in the scheme of things this year it's probably better off he gets it operated on now (if he needs it) than wait until the end of the year, that way he can start in the gym and be ready for pre-season training.
-
doesn't necessarily warrant a shoulder reco ???
-
oh no :-\

Put him in cotton wool. Our forward stocks beyond this season rest on those soldiers. Ensure he is ready for 2011 if he is badly injured.

Yeah Cotton Wool have him 12 months in the gym and nurse him like Melbourne has nursed Watts.

I don't know how hard this is to comprehend. He was booked in for a reconstruction, all the news said he was going in for the procedure. However during the operation, the surgeon realised it didn't need to be done. It wasn't until afterwards that it was mentioned that he only needed a clean up. If he'd had a reco, they use industrial strength fibre like in the LARS surgury for knees, an old mate of mine had one done by Greg Hickey who is the club doctor and had it done this way. He took 6 months before he could even lift his arm over his head after the surgury.
-

Yes I know you read it in the press or on some forum somewhere.

Nothing new, but a snippet from an article on richmondfc.com.au
On a sour note for Richmond, Ben Griffiths (the Club’s second pick in the 2009 National Draft) left the field with a shoulder injury after booting two early goals.
“It was a real positive and a downer for Ben Griffiths, the way he started. He took the first big mark of the match and was leading well,” Newett said.
“You could see that he has AFL qualities though.”

Monk you make the most embarrassing statements on here.
Do you even know who Ben Griffiths is?
A Cleve Hughes clone? With respect to both players you don't have the knowledge to comment on either.
You should be a Sports Journalist. Your an expert on something you know absolutly nothing about. Have another beer Monk.

you make a idiot out of yourself replying to my posts
l think l know both players ability quite well & where they come from duh
only have to use google if l wanted information on anything just like you do waterboy
Comeback & have a go when you see Griffiths get some game time in the seniors
in the meantime keep posting your worthless poo ;D

Half the reason Griffiths keeps getting injured is because he throws himself into packs trying to break them open and take a big grab
I think I saw Hughes take one big pack mark in his whole career

He was doing that before he was drafted. l'm not comparing them in talent or skills.

Richmond is not a club which can afford Risks
dont you take any notice on the forums or the media
Richmond is on the bottom because of constant mistakes in all departments
another terrible season from our drafts will set us back another 5 years & our good draft years will be wasted with dead wood

Au contraire. i think that's all we have these days. Everything we do is a risk and we have to roll with it.

Ben Griffiths & Matt Dea were guests pre-match at Player Club today
Girffiths' said he should be back at Coubrg next weekend. Scans on his shoulder showed no major damage just some bruising to the joint
Dea was wearing a moon boot. Has been wearing it since last week, he's developed a "hot spot" in his foot. Said that if had left it any longer and not told the medicos it would have developed into stress fractures. Moon boot is due off this week and then 2 weeks of training before starting back at Coburg in 3 weeks

Great news on both kids and great to see the club being cautious with our young players.
Would love to see Griffiths play some footy for the RFC by years end.

Cambpo was also at the pre-match for all of 10 minutes and he made it clear that the pan is for Griffiths to play AFL before the year is out. :thumbsup
