Post Vs Beams
Jayden Post was picked 26, Dayne beams was picked 29 in the 2008 Draft.
i have 2 questions.
who has developed and been more influential on the game the most?
or is it more to do with what we have seen with many other players richmond just havent been able to develop the potential out of our players as quickly as other teams have?
-
who gives a f
no one in our team developed under wallet
we r starting from scratch
get over it
-
:clapping Well said X.
Also, for a start, Post is a tall that puts him a year or two behind in the first place.
Secondly, this poo happens all the time to all clubs.
Other players that were higher picked like Jackson Trengove, Shaun McKernan, Mitchell Brown, Lewis Johnston, Tom Lynch and Phil Davis just for a start have not performed anywhere near Dayne Beams form and below Post as well, does that mean we can use that in isolation to say Port's, Adelaide's, Geelong's, Sydney's and St Kilda's development is worse than ours. Of course you bloody well can't.
Stop looking backwards, the future is the other way.
-
Post will be a gun CHB who will contribute to a premiership. Beams is a smart ass kid who has vomit all over 1 arm and the Pies will probably finish another year in the top 4 without a premiership 8)

stupid comparrison, nil relativities with one player 6"5 the other 5"10...Next ::)

The thread topic is very common of the tripe another poster who is now known as "guest" use to post.

Comparing a kpp to a midfielder in both of their 2nd seasons.
What a stupid comparison
Why don't you compare him to Shaun McKernan who was taken two picks after Post?

this thread seems to be about why we took post and not beams its not about comparing them to each other, anyway on all counts Beams wins :banghead

So the fact that we had a massive hole in our list of quality talls means we focus on taking some early in the draft, yet now were are critical of the club for not taking another midfielder?
God some of our supporters are stupid.
-
How many times do we have to "compare" players that we did not pick against players we did???? Fair dinkum these threads go way back to Fiora and it just keeps going on and on and on. Do you think the Hawks still carry on about Ablett.... I very rarely hear about that stuff up. That would have to be the worst decission ever made by a club in the history of de-listings/drafting.
I suppose it wasn't the RFC though so lets not bag them... ::)
In the end we have what we have, lets just deal with it eh!!

this wasnt my thread by the way, im just clarifying what the thread seems to be about! On your point about lack of quality talls - yes I agree, but do you believe that young Posty was going to be a quality tall? Many dont believe that to be the case, and in terms of taking another midfielder, most of us would prefer to have Beams than Post, you always get the player who can play, not the player you hope can play! :gotigers

Post showed in his first year that he looked like he was an astute pickup for a mid 2nd rounder. Sure he's gone backwards this year, however at any other club he wouldn't have even debuted yet. He didn't really deserve his call up last year, however he looked like he played better at AFL level than VFL.
I understand he has gone backwards this year, but we shouldn't be making judgements on our players, especially kpps in their 2nd year.
Stupid, stupid, stupid thread

That's all driven by hindsight Ramps - every single club overlooked or disregarded Beams before we took Post. I'm a Rhodes Scholar in hindsight but as for Post's future goes? Who the hell knows. I only know that we needed KPP and we went for them. To turn on the club for doing that and accusing them of getting it wrong after such a short period of time is quite scurrilous.

I couldn't give a toss if its your thread or not, you've made comments in support of the opening post. It can be directly toward whoever is reading.

Hows that? You stated an opinion in the post above that I quoted and I replied to the effect that I disagree - nothing to do with who started the thread at all! ???

All I said in 1 post was that Beams is a better player. If you dont like the truth the stiff poo champ! ;D

Which brings me back to my original comment, you cannot compare a kpp to a midfielder in their 2nd years. Its a pointless comparison. Compare them in 4-5 years time, not now.
-
why even bother comparing them? Just judge what you have got on their performance alone.
If you continue to judge draft picks by comparing them to what others got, or what could have been, you will allways find something that makes you go :banghead
until you end up :sleep
There will always remain a certain lottery element to the draft.
-
the crux of it is we needed to go for a tall, Posty has a long way to go, seemingly gone backwards this year, time up his sleeve though to build confidence at VFL...he needs to find a posi...which I feel will be in the back half, not a natural enough player to be a creative forward
-
I know the pies rated Beams a lot higher than any other club and took him "earlier" than he would have gone to any other club, he was touted as a later pick amongst the other cubs and the pies didnt want to risk not gettng him. Hidsight is a wonderful thing and the draft is full of stories like this - i'll bet that this time last year when Posty was showing some good signs most wouldn't be thinking this. I'm all for giving it to our club for the many mistakes theyve made, but this is a bit rich, just relax, Posty was thereabts and rated, up to us to deveop him and give him time
-
There has been a fair bit said about how much Post has gone backwards well IMO he didn't actually show a lot last year. He kicked a couple goals but didn't have one high possession or dominating game from memory.
Being a tall he shouldn't even have debuted yet unless he was starring in lower grades. Long way to go yet on this before the jury can make a call on Post.

you wouldnt expect him to have a dominating game at his age, but he showed some very good signs in several games imo, namely the essendon game and might have been the kangas game(cant recall 4 sure) He's definitely lost confidence in himself, last year he looked like he knew what he was doing ie running to the right spots, this year he looks lost and caught between going to the right areas like tambling does :wallywink

We needed key position players. Post is young and still developing. Beams is at a club which is performing well this year where at the moment there is no pressure on him to perform. Can get under the guard of other clubs. Hence why he is doing well.

Exactly when your the opposition coach placing your focus on the opposition players who do you pick Pendlebury, Swan, Didak or hey what about Beams.
