Sydney have owned Richmond..... .They have won the last 8 games against us and we have not beaten them for 5 years.
Wayne Campbell was still playing last time we beat them....and we were very lucky to get over the line that day (thanks to a Rory Hilton behind).
When we played the Swans earlier in the season it was 10 goals to 1 at half time. We were also mocked for celebrating the fact we won our first quarter of football for the year.(4th quarter).
Over the last 6 weeks our expectations for the Tigers have been turned on its head.Watching Jack decimate backlines over the last month has been like watching an episode of the Twilight Zone.....There have been times I couldn't believe my eyes.
As marvellous as our victories have been this year.....you could argue that they have been against teams where the wheels have well and truly fallen off.
Im not sure if we are ready to "play with the big boys" just yet but victory against the Swans would give the club tremendous credibility.
Plus the media can never have enough egg on their faces.

I can't wait for it. I reckon there'll be at least 40,000 there. Would be nice if we can break our Sydney, Adelaide and St Kilda hoodoos over the next 9 games
-
Im flying over from WA for it, cant wait

This will be the first real test to find where we really are at after the past month of good form. The Swans' midfield has torn us to shreds in the past with their run and numbers to the footy and Bradshaw and Mumford will be back so they'll be closer to full strength. Real respect is built by beating the top sides. The only current top 8 side we've pushed all the way so far is Hawthorn and that was when they were only beginning their current run of wins with injured players such as Burgoyne coming back. The break for us will give our young bodies a deserved rest. Hopefully with the confidence and belief we've built up and we are at least competitive as we've been over the past month and we get another good crowd rocking up.

Jack will have a field day next week if the Swans defenders especially Lewis Roberts-Thompson are as easily pushed aside in the marking contest as they are being tonight.

LRT is one of those real annoying players who can look like sh1te and when they play us he looks unstoppable.

That's true Tucky. In the past though their gun midfield has torn us to shreds and hence protected their backline. When that protection is no longer there and the ball is coming down frequently their defenders look very wobbly and vunerable.

Sydney are shyte with a capital S and it's time we dusted those turkeys.

I'm at the Skunks vs Swans game tonight, right behind the Skunks bench. Skunks are running the Swans midfield ragged. Dunno what the interchange stats are, but I'm looking over the shoulder of the performance manager. All the Skunks are wearing what looks like GPS andheart rate monitors. The coach has a laptop and a dashboard program open
Each player is listed and the dashboard for each shows either red, yellow or green. When a player's indicator goes yellow, they get an interchange player ready. As soon as the thing goes red they call the swap. It seems like some players, like Swan only come off for 90 seconds or so, then back on. As soonas the indicator on the resting player goes back to green, they have them ready to go back out
From the start of each quarter, it takes 4-5 minutes for the indicators for the players to change. I saw that when they get three players red and five or six yellow, theyreally start to work the bench big time.
I think the difference is the ability of the Skunks to outrun the Swans, big fellas not withstanding. Dunno how this method would work if they were a player down for longer than a quarter. :'(

Goodes :help
Hold him we win

Put kingy on him and tell him to displace goodes kneecaps

Expect to see the entire Sydney team camped in front of Jack for long periods of the game. Wallace and Frawley before him never had an answer for this ploy. Unless Hardwick can come up with a solution, Sydney unfortunately will continue to own us, much like Collingwood unfortunately owns them.

Put Jack in the goal square and kick the effing football over his head.
Let the mids kick all the goals.
Simple really. :thumbsup ;) (where is Jackstar by the way?)

I think he is still in critical shock after seeing in person his beloved Lions go down to the mighty Tiger cubs

He will finish his career as the worst player to play 200 games and 2 GFs. One of the most clumsy players I have seen.

Agreed, astoundingly bad on Saturday.
Kept thinking back to the GF they won where I thought he was their best player.
As you say, incredibly clumsy now.
IIRC SOS was his individual coach at the time, before going to St Kilda.
Maybe SOS is a much better defensive coach than I thought, particularly when you think of Fisher, Gilbert and even Gwilt on the weekend. How Blake is a key back is beyond my understanding.

I think it highlights perfectly that you can carry a player with deficiencies in their game as long as you put them in a game structure that relies on those deficiencies as litle as possible and surround them with quality players who can assis in making that role work.
For example, a player with poor kicking skills must have players working hard up field into space so the kick doesn't need to be pin point accurate. Alternatively ensure that there is always someone with class disposal near the player when he has the ball for an easy offload.

Tigers eye end to Swan streak
richmondfc.com.au
By Tony Greenberg
Mon 28 June, 2010
Richmond will be out to break an eight-game losing streak against Sydney, when they take on the Swans in Sunday’s Round 14 clash at the MCG.
The last time the Tigers defeated Sydney was Round 14 of the 2005 season, when they hung on to win a thriller by one-point, after leading by 33 points at three-quarter time, in front of 34,572 fans at the MCG.
Matthew Richardson was Richmond’s leading goalkicker that day with four, while Andrew Krakouer booted three, and the three Brownlow votes went to Tiger captain, Kane Johnson (15 kicks, 7 handballs, 7 marks).
It’s interesting to note that from the Richmond team which played in that match, only five players remain on the Club’s senior list in 2010 - current captain Chris Newman (who was playing his 68th game), Shane Tuck (in his 17th game), Brett Deledio (14th game), Richard Tambling (5th game) and Will Thursfield, who was making his senior league debut. Thursfield was impressive in an extremely tough first-up assignment on Sydney Swans star forward Michael O’Loughlin.
Just 12 weeks later, the Swans won their first premiership in 72 years, making the Tigers’ performance that early July Saturday all the more meritorious.
Since then, the two teams have played eight times for eight Sydney wins. The Swans’ average winning margin in those eight games has been 57 points.
In the Round 3 encounter this season, Sydney beat Richmond by 55 points, after leading 10 goals to one at half-time. So, Sunday’s game will be an interesting gauge of how the young Tiger team has progressed since then.

I urge all Tiger fans to get along to the game on Sunday, and make the Swans feel about as welcome as a turd in a jacuzzi >:(

The MCC is expecting a crowd of 35k.
Not too bad for a game involving an interstate side on a Sunday when you see they only expecting 40k to turn up for the Hawks vs Dogs on Friday night. So much for the Hawks and their 50k members ::).

While Sydney enjoys a long winning streak against Richmond, he's wary of the developing Tiger cubs.
"I think over the course of the next 18 months you are going to see Richmond play some really good footy on a consistent basis," Paul Roos said.

Tigers fresh and ready for Swans
richmondfc.com.au

Richmond midfielder Trent Cotchin believes the split round will aid the players in their bid for a third straight win this weekend.
The Tigers take on Sydney at the MCG on Sunday - a team they have not defeated since Round 14, 2005.
But Cotchin and his young team-mates are aiming to reverse the Club’s Round 3 loss to the Swans earlier this season.
“We’ve done a lot of improving since then. We’ve worked hard on our structures, and how to beat them, and I think it’s a really good opportunity,” Cotchin said.
“The whole view of the year has been to develop, and to continue to develop the game plan, and I think we’re doing that at the moment.
“We’re trying to keep a level head, and with a young group I think that’s important. We’re just excited about the back end of the season.”
Cotchin said the players used the weekend off to relax away from the Club and prepare themselves for the rest of the season.
“A few of the guys got away and re-charged the batteries. I think it’s always good, especially with a young group,” he said.
“The bodies start to get a bit bruised and battered, and it gives us an opportunity to refresh and get ready for the rest of the year.
“Having a little break, you get excited because you see the games being played on the weekend and you just want to get out there again.”
Richmond will conduct its final training session this Saturday April 3 at 11am at Punt Road Oval.

WHO WILL WIN AND WHY?
If the Tigers don't get a big haul from Riewoldt, they will struggle in attack, and he faces an in-form Lewis Roberts-Thomson ???.
The midfield battle could be even but in Goodes, Ben McGlynn and Daniel Bradshaw, the Swans look more potent up forward. It will be close but the Swans have more to lose than Richmond. It's hard to see them dropping this one.
PREDICTION:
Sydney Swans by 15 points.

Tigers a new proposition for Swans: Roos
July 3, 2010 - 1:09PM
AAP
Sydney coach Paul Roos says favourable history and an early season thrashing of Richmond mean nothing against the much-improved Tigers at the MCG on Sunday.
The Swans belted Richmond by 55 points at the SCG in round three of the AFL season, their eighth straight victory against them, most by similarly healthy margins.
But while Sydney were flying at that stage and the Tigers uncompetitive early in their first season under Damien Hardwick, Roos acknowledged the momentum had swung.
Advertisement: Story continues belowThe Tigers have three wins from their past four games - helped by strong form from young midfielders Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin and key forward Jack Riewoldt.
The Swans are the team trying to regain ground after a disappointing loss to Collingwood last round.
"It's stating the obvious, but their individual players are playing a lot better, which means that they are a lot more dangerous team," Roos said.
"I think they're a lot more confident. A new coach coming in, it takes a while with new players and young players and getting used to AFL football and the tempo and all those sorts of things.
"They are a lot better team than when we played them in earlier in the season. Young players get confident from wins, if they get beaten all the time, they tend to lose confidence.
"I think the Richmond football club are on the right track now. They are up and about and playing with a lot of confidence."
Roos said the midfield battle would be crucial, with the Swans having been down in that area against the Magpies, while the Tigers' on-ballers have been in good form.
Sydney made four unforced changes, including the return from injury of running defender Tadhg Kennelly, while forward Trent Dennis-Lane will make his AFL debut.
The Tigers' only change was Kelvin Moore replacing fellow tall defender Luke McGuane (leg).
Roos said he doubted the Swans' dominant record against Richmond would have any psychological effect on the current Tigers.
"Damien (Hardwick) would give them every chance of beating us and we think if we play well we will beat them," Roos said.
"I don't think that changes, who you play week to week, it doesn't make any difference about your previous record."

Haven't they got a Kristin Davis on their list too :lol :rollin :lol

I hate Sydney with a passion but this a good test for us. They have had the wood on us for a long time. Bradshaw is out. So we are our chance. Must be able to contain Goodes and their midfield. Mcglynn is also a danger.

Not sure where to put these but here's the Coaches votes (Hardwick and Roos)
Richmond v Sydney Swans
10 Chris Newman (Rich)
7 Jack Riewoldt (Rich)
7 Brett Deledio (Rich)
3 Ryan O'Keefe (Syd)
3 Jude Bolton (Syd)

and Cotch had no case to answer with the MRP
Contact between Richmond’s Trent Cotchin and the Sydney Swans’ Martin Mattner from the second quarter of Sunday’s game was assessed. Due to the inconclusive nature of the vision available, which could not determine the contact made to player Mattner, no further action was taken.
