No Riewoldt? :s

Hope he gets fit for a Practise run before Round 1.

If Miller plays round 1 I'll spew up.

Except for Jack missing with his bruised knee there aren't too many missing in that lineup.
Edwards is missing, I suggest this is just a rotations thing and some would say he isn't best 22 (but they'd be wrong)
Taylor is out also

Other than that, it's a pretty strong side (for us)

Shame I can't get up to the game

Big Xman is also out
what's happened to ORLY?
& Moorey?

we don't have the forwards to kick a winning score on a regular basis so our defense needs to be tight and the mids need to outgun the opp in i50s probably by close to 2:1

I would think it is about giving them all the same amount of matches before round 1.

Big Tommy Xman has played the last 2 weeks, BrownE hasn't, Gus has only played 1 game so BrownE & Gus play this week

I reckon we will play as close to our round 1 team in our final praccie game in a fortnight

Well, you better get your bucket ready Pope, because Miller will play just as certainly as the sun shall rise.

on edwards. im not going to say hes not top 22 but will say he sure as hell has his work cut out to get and then keep his spot.

outside, some are both inside outside onball/mid types. newman yes newman, houli, connors, grigg, conca, morton cotchin and possibly deledio.these are the players hes battling with for a running role imo. hes also up against white and nason but i think he has it over them two atm.

to be honest when you add the inside players like tuck martin jackson and foley i find it hard to give him a spot in the 22. i suppose it comes down to how you rate him and what role you think he can play.

i reckon we have just two who can play small down back thats newman and farmer. i would like to see farmer given a sustained run at the role and move newman to a wing where his experience can be spread around a bit more and his good footskills delivering into the forward line used more.

we have 5 players imo vieing for two  rmedium sized running roles out of defense. they are deledio, dea, orielly, batchelor, and conca.likely deledio is one and conca the other. but think more of a negating type a possibility as well.

imo we have 6 players competing for two wing spots.newman, houli, grigg conca  morton and edwards. to me newman  grigg and morton have the front running. i think morton cotchin and possibly  one other  a chance to be part of a 2 or 3 way mid/for rotation of a flank.

the only spots left for a possible inclusion for him is sml forward interchange.
and what a problem small forward is.
the lack of talent in this area has me rotating mids with the neccesary attributes to play the role rotating thru the forward line instead of picking a below standard player. players like cotchin houli conca morton do have the attributes. im tempted to pick macdonald a natural forward at least on the bench but i would like him to show a bit first.would also like to give hicks a go but apparently hes really struggled so far this off season.

B/ Farmer  - Thursfield  -  Moore. would really like to see gourdis given a go at fb but hes been poor thus far in pre season. Grimes at some stage as a third tall.
HB/ Deledio - Astbury  -  one of Dea  Batchelor O'rielly.possibly conca.
C/ Newman - Martin - Grigg possibly conca.
HF/ Taylor - Post  - cotchin.
F/ Morton - Riewoldt - Houli.
R/ Graham - tuck - foley.
Int/ Derickx - Conca - Connors -
Sub/ contin/edwards/rance.

Not convinced about that team their claw. Missing a few key personale and including some that are undeserving.

Whether people like it or not McGuane is our best tall defender atm. Post has not kicked a goal in anger, Dea & O'Rielly not even in contention and Newman & Lids training all preseason across HB. We, like every other team in the league, are extremely unlikely to have a second ruck on the bench - more likely to have one resting as a tall forward.

So given all that - this is my lineup:

B/ Batchelor  - McGuane  -  Moore.
HB/ Deledio - Astbury  -  Newman
C/ Edwards - Jackson  -  Martin.
HF/ Morton - Vickery  - Houli.
F/ Vickery - Riewoldt - King.
R/ Graham - Cotchin  - Foley.
Int/ Derickx - Connors - Grigg -
Sub/ Tuck

Emergencies: Taylor, Conca, Derickx, Thursfield,

McGuane is an average at best player. Schulz made him look stupid in that 3-1 conest the other night. Astbury is a better player. We badly need to upgrade on McGuane otherwise we'll be staying bottom 4 for a while

My Team v Hawthorn ... THROW THEM TO THE WOLVES!

Batchelor, Grimes, Dea

Connors, McGuane, Grigg

Conca, Helbig, White

Morton, Astbury, Macdonald

Nahas, Vickery, Miller

Brown, Foley, Jackson

Graham, King, Rance, Thursfield, Farmer

Tuck (S)

Would Not Play:

Deledio, Martin, Cotchin, Houli, Newman

Play our possible full strength team next weekend.

Give our average to OK players a real opportunity against them.

Franklin, Mitchell, Roughead, Rioli i would get a cub to play on!

It is a practice match!

Rather see as full a streght side this week as possible as you dont know who or where we play next. Never know our last game could be against GWS and what sort of hitout would that be going into R1. Blow the cobwebs out while we can.

Good news, Port Power have got GWS in the last round of praccy games.

PORT Adelaide coach Matthew Primus has lamented the timing of Port Adelaide's likely clash with Greater Western Sydney next weekend, saying it was not an ideal preparation for his team on the eve of round one.

Lids will have to have a run this week torch as he hasn't played a preseason game yet.

The thing is both yourself Davey and Stripes are probably both right. Lukey is probably first choice because others like Goo haven't come on and gone past him. Kel has done a decent job on Buddy in the past but he's not playing.

B:   Farmer      McGuane    Grimes
HB: Deledio      Astbury    Newman
C:   Grigg         Martin      Morton
HF: Helbig        Miller       Houli
F:   Nahas        Vickery      Tuck
R: Graham       Cotchin      Foley
Int: Browne      Connors     Jackson
Sub: Rance

Emg: Thursfield, King, Conca, Batchelor, White, MacDonald, Dea

Conca and Batchelor have played all preseason games so far so it wouldn't surprise me if they were rested.
