AFL player in police probe
Whitney Harris
Bendigo Advertiser
06 Aug, 2011
AFL player Jake King is being investigated by police for allegedly threatening to kill a Melbourne man and his family.
Police applied to the Bendigo Magistrates Court this week for an interim intervention order against the Richmond Football Club player after the alleged victim raised safety concerns.
Senior Constable Tim Elliot told the court a report had been made to police regarding the alleged threats and the matter would be investigated.
Any person charged and found guilty of making a threat to kill could face a maximum 10 years in jail.
King and the alleged victim were not present at the Bendigo hearing.
The matter was adjourned to Broadmeadows Magistrates Court on August 24.
King must appear in court on that date to contest any intervention order.
The Bendigo Advertiser believes King has not yet been served with the interim order.
He yesterday travelled to Perth with the Richmond Football Club for tomorrow’s clash with the West Coast Eagles at Patersons Stadium.
A club spokesman said Richmond was not aware of the court case and would not comment.
King, 27, made his AFL debut with the Tigers in 2007 after being selected at No.24 in that year’s rookie draft.
He has since gained prominence in a defensive-forward role and enjoyed his best season of league football in 2010, finishing ninth in the club’s best and fairest award.
King has played 71 games with the Tigers.

As a great Richmond philosopher and artiste (Big Rexy) use to say and I quote
'there is no greater power than the power of the pussy"
Although he used to often pronounce this fact after Geelong used to give us one hell of a beating years ago
;D

delist asap cant have this, unsettles young kids
-
Can not be true, he wouldn't blow it after such a successful year. I like the Joel Bowden comment though :rollin
-
Wouldn't say he has been successful.
Just another example of how he lacks discipline and sel control.
Delist.

Delist.
So are you saying he is guilty before anything is proven then ???
-
Yes.
No doubt in my mind.
-
An AVO is an unsubstantiated allegation, why would you sack someone based on that?
-
Yes.
No doubt in my mind.
Fair enough
plenty of doubt in mine though

Bet someone didn't pay their plumbing bill.

POLICE are expected to interview Richmond forward Jake King following claims he allegedly made threats against a Melbourne man and his family, club sources have confirmed.
Richmond is expected to release a statement later this afternoon.
The moves come after reports that an interim intervention order had been taken out against the former Tiger's best and fairest winner.
Richmond sources have confirmed they have spoken to King about reports that Police applied for an interim intervention order at the Bendigo Magistrates Court this week.
It was reported King's alleged victim had concerns for his family's safety.
Police are expected to interview King after the weekend.
Neither the football player or the victim were present when Senior Constable Tim Elliot reportedly told the court the matter would be investigated.

Im not a lawyer but one would think you need more evidence then just a one off threat for an intervention order.
I think we'll just have to wait and see how this pans out.

if it wasnt Jake king wit would never have been heard of,
Screw these people who go after someone with a public profile because they're jealous pigs

It's like a few weeks ago Brian Lake v Nathan Eagleton. Who gives a skata.

an intervention order is pretty easy to get, nearly as easy as a trespass notice.
you dont have to be proven guilty to have an intervention order against you. It's not so much a punishment of the perpetrator but supposed to protect the other party.
when it's all said and done, if someone does really want to kill you you I dont think they're going to be to worried about a court order telling them not to come within a certain distance.
The way some people judge without knowing any facts makes our jury system seem truly horrifying

Ain't that the truth Al. Everyone would be guilty of doing it at some stage or other but some have made it a true art form! :lol

HAH ! neither issue here surprises me, you being a whiney sook about someone having a go at you and you driving like a nob. Last time some idiot crossed lanes on me without looking I was off to hospital in the back of an ambulance.

The allegations contained in the Intervention Order Complaint are just that allegations. King is entitled to have the full support of the club. To sack someone on the basis of unproven allegations is plainly wrong.
-
Interesting to know when this incident happened and how long it's been hanging over his head as Kingy has been M.I.A. onfield for the best part of the past two months. Needs to be dropped back to Coburg.
-
Meanwhile, forward Jake King is yet to be formally interviewed by police after being accused of threatening to harm a 29-year-old Sunbury man.
The club is taking the issue seriously but it seems unlikely to jeopardise his contract talks.

3aw just said Jake King in court with his lawyer has agreed to a 6-month extention of the intervention order. They didn't mention what happened regarding the incident.

From The Age:
Tiger King denies kill threat August 24, 2011 - 10:43AM
Richmond footballer Jake King has denied allegations that he threatened to kill a Melbourne man and his family.
King, 27, appeared in Broadmeadows Magistrates Court this morning where he did not oppose a six-month intervention order being made against him.
The court heard King did not admit the allegation, but consented to the order.
Advertisement: Story continues below Police told the court there were no criminal court proceedings.
Magistrate John O'Callaghan told King that the orders were not made lightly and, if breached, could result in two years' jail or a $28,000 fine.
King appeared relaxed in court, laughing and smiling before the brief hearing.
The order will expire in February.
