Moving onto the Adelaide game, how do we all think we will go this weekend?
We haven't won against the Crows in Adelaide for 12 years :P.
The bookies (TAB) have Adelaide favourites:
Richmond $3.00
Adelaide $1.36
-
I am heading over if I can get over this flu
But can't see us winning with the way they are playing at the moment
-
This match needs to be title - how about the Wallpaper Cup.
-
Well I am sticking to my guns, no point pulling wins out of our arse now...
Crows by 38-48 points......
-
Not confident at all about this one, if we can snag 1 of the last 2 please be Norf next week :pray
-
The AFL site is tipping the Crows by less than a kick...
SUMMARY
In yet another strange quirk of the draw, the Tigers and Crows are doing battle for the first time this season in the second-last round.
Both clubs have had indifferent campaigns, although when you take into account Adelaide's coaching change, the Crows' season has certainly been more dramatic.
The Crows are now under the guidance of caretaker coach Mark Bickley, who has inspired the players to lift their intensity since he took over for the round 19 game against Port Adelaide.
Since then, Bickley's team has won three of its four matches, meaning the two-time premiership captain is a big chance to win the role on a full-time basis.
The Crows beat Gold Coast by 10 goals at Metricon Stadium last weekend. Midfielder Scott Thompson collected 51 possessions to be the star of the show.
Richmond has also picked up its form in recent times. The Tigers have won their past two matches, against the Sydney Swans and Melbourne, and have now tallied six more points than they did last season (they won six games last year and have posted seven and a half victories this year).
QUESTION MARKS
Will the Crows offer Mark Bickley the coaching job if they win this game? Another victory would mean four wins from five games since Bickley took over. It would be tough to ignore those numbers.
How can Richmond shut down Crows gun Scott Thompson? Gold Coast let Thompson run free and he helped himself to 51 touches, but expect the Tigers to get someone like Shane Tuck to stick by his side.
PREDICTION
Adelaide by two points

Sportal is tipping Adelaide by 23 points. They reckon Tippett and Walker will have the advantage over our threadbare backline.

Not confident at all about this one, if we can snag 1 of the last 2 please be Norf next week :pray
If I had to pick one of the next two yep would be Nought next week.
Realistically if we can be within eight goals of the Crows we will have done well. They have been one club who always seem to have taken us to the sword in recent years.

Adelaide have been playing like a different team under Bickley played some good footy. Plus as CUB said they have put us to the sword in recent years.
Logic says Adelaide will win but heart says C'mon tigers. :gotigers

Rance will take one of Tippett or Walker and shut them out. I hope Post gets the job on Walker to see how he goes. Cambo has done a good job as opposition analyst last 2 weeks with Rance on Goodes and Houli on Davey. Post on Walker this week would be a good opportunity to see where he's at because if Walker gets his confidence up he's a gun. If Post keeps him quiet early he could go completely missing and Post's confidence should increase.

I think we might see it the other way round, Post wont stand a chance keeping up with Walker, he would me a much better match up on Tippett. Thursty or Rance on Walker for Mine :thumbsup

I actually wrote that first then changed it. ;D Post has to be able to play on the tall ruckman types i think. But having said that Tippett is going to play from the goal square which would be a huge worry.
-
Adelaide have always enjoyed playing us and the fact that we have never thrashed them speaks volumes about how they play againt us
-
Tigers will win this for the supporters :gotigers
-
Adelaide still smarting against the Wallace masterstroke(r) when we beat them out of the wild blue.
Our boys will get over the line, they are starting to show some pride guts and determination. Tucky will be in top 3 again.

My game plan is obvious: Crows AFL coach
Steve Larkin
Sat Aug 27 2011
Adelaide's caretaker coach Mark Bickley reckons you don't have to be Einsten to work out his tactics.
So the Adelaide mentor is unfazed at his game plan being publicly picked apart by Richmond coach Damien Hardwick ahead of their AAMI Stadium clash on Sunday.
Hardwick noted Bickley's risk-taking style based on quick ball movement and play on at any cost, saying slowing down the Crows was a focal point of the Tigers' pre-game planning.
"You don't have to be Einstein to look at our side in the last four weeks and what we have done," Bickley said.
"And he (Hardwick) has obviously identified that we're playing with speed and trying to move the ball quickly.
"It's one thing to say that and another thing to be able to stop that.
"It's similar when we look at Richmond - they like to move the ball quickly and get it in to Jack Riewoldt and that will be part of our plans, to try to stop that.
"Whether we do it successfully or not, that will be the question."
Bickley, who has logged three wins in four games as Adelaide's interim coach, said Richmond's plans to stop Adelaide could unravel.
"The way they might have to go to slow us down might mean they have to move a little bit away from their game plan," he said.
"At the moment, generally, you might say if we're moving it quickly out of our defence, you might have to play six forwards and man up on our defenders.
"If they do that, one of the things they have been doing really well is they push their forwards up the ground - so they need to make a choice whether they stick with what they do or whether they adjust to try and counter what we do."
Richmond chase a third consecutive win on Sunday with Bickley noting similarities between the clubs: both certain to miss the finals but finishing the season with a flourish.
"We come up against a side which is playing some really spirited football at the moment," Bickley said.
"They have come off two wins in a row andare playing with some vitality, much like us, so I see it as a great opportunity for us to go head to head against them."

Webberley is the sub again. So O'Reilly named starting on the ground at HB. Foley, Morton and Farmer on the bench.
-
Late change: Doughty is out for the Crows; Brodie Martin comes in.
-
Adelaide has the breeze.
Slack marking Tiges. A goal to the Crows in the first minute :P.
-
Cotch hits Vickery on the lead. From 40m out. Goal :gotigers
6 - 6
-
Deliberate rushed behind ::). What a surprise we get pinged for this crap rule when last night Ziebell punched the ball through for a point from 15m out and no one around him yet it's not classed as rushed ::).
Rich 6
Adel 12

Out of the middle through Martin. After a repeated efforts Vickery marks it again. Goal :gotigers

-
CAAAAARN THE TIIIIIIIGERS! Hows it going champs?
-
We're winning out of the middle so far thanks to Dusty. Free flowing game with not much defence. A old fashion shoot out.
Crows level it.
Rich 18
Adel 18
-
Tackled by the head is legal apparently.
-
gee they been lucky the crows imo
-
Point to Kingy.
Crows run it for a goal.
Rich 19
Adel 24
-
Grigg....totally muffed it there...
-
Gus :banghead
-
K wtf is going on in defence. No chasing, no second efforts, peeing me off no end. Adelaide incompetence is saving us atm.
-
A turnover and a lazy marking attempt results in a Crows point. The kick-in is marked by the Crows but thankfully the shot is OOTF.
Rich 19
Adel 26
-
They are really hurting us on the rebound.
Rich 19
Adel 32
-
Why the stuff pass to Foley when he has three adelaide blokes on him and no support ffs.
-
Gus gives to O'Reilly into the pocket to Morton. Great Goal into the breeze :gotigers
Rich 25
Adel 32
-
Gee the ump didn't think Johncock was aiming for the boudary line despite the distinct lack of any players there ... Nice goal to Morts.
-
Farmer! fantastic intercept! Nahas a dont argue LOL
-
FANTASTIC SMART TAP FROM MILLER and GOAL JACKSON
-
Vickery clever tap down to Nahas but misses.
32 a piece.
-
Houli's kick to Cotch is dropped and it costs a goal :P
Rich 32
Adel 39
-
Takes a mark in their fifty, gets his arm chopped away ...play on goal crows...wtf
How do these pricks get work as umpires? He had marked the ball and then the chop came, clear as stuffing day.
-
Another rebound goal to Adelaide
1/4 time
Richmond 5.2-32
Adelaide 7.3-45
Goals: Vickery 2, Morton, Jackson, Nahas.
-

How do these pricks get work as umpires? He had marked the ball and then the chop came, clear as stuffing day.
Add that rushed point that hasn't been paid a free all year ::). Home-crowd umps at work again.
-
Here we go gotta beat the home crowd umpiring again - Just cheating in my book :banghead
Use the breeze Tiges don't f around.
-
Our midfielders must run back harder to help the defense. When the Crows win the ball back in their defensive half, their mids are easily running past our mids. I reckon you could just about name our entire midfield as not running back hard enough.
-
Fox reporting that van Berlo got it 14 times in the first quarter

Possies:
Martin 7
Foley 6
Cotch 5
Jacko 5
Lids 4
Morton 4
Nahas 4
O'Reilly 4
Post 4
The Crows have had 29 more disposals.
Hitouts: 5 - 15 ...... Gus has had just one possie
Frees: 4 -6
-
Post's loopy handball to Rance is turned over and gifts the Crows a goal.
Rich 32
Adel 51
-
They are dominating now :help.
32 - 52
-
Good work by Edwards to Vickery 50m out and returns the favour back to Edwards who ran on 40m out. Miss :-\.
Rich 33
Adel 52
-
King another miss from a set shot :scream
King gets it back from the kick-in and sprays it again :banghead
Rich 35
Adel 52
-
How is King still in the side? Done nothing for 3 months.
Farmer cops it high but no free ::)
-
Foley runs down McKay and again no free ::)
-
Foley squirts it to King and it hits the behind post. Throw-in.
Tippett grabs it out of the ruck and is pinged (hooray a free). Gus set shot from 35m out. Misses poorly :scream
Rich 36
Adel 52
Jacko off with the blood rule.
-
Gus is playing like a footballer who knows his career is over. No physical presence whatsoever. Ends up in a Crows point.
Rich 36
Adel 53
-
Edwards to Jack to Nahas long to Gus (lol just proves me wrong :lol ) who marks strongly 20m out. Has the Michael Holding run up. Goal :gotigers
Rich 42
Adel 53
-
Gus finally puts it thru the big sticks lol
-
Nahas good pressure forces the turnover but O'Reilly's kick is scrubbed to a Crows player and they get a set shot on the rebound. Point.
Rich 42
Adel 54
-
This is starting to look depressingly like the game in Cairns. No defensive run
-
Lids made a good effort to try stop that goal but yeah what hope 2 on 1.
-
dumb as stuff
-
Farmer's kick bombs straight to the Crows and the turnover costs another rebound goal.
Rich 42
Adel 60
-
Reckon Jake King might be a bit small for a lead up full forward.
-
stuff me with a tonka truck that was so far out of bounds and he pays the mark.....
-
dumb idiots
-
As Muscles said we aren't working hard enough. Too many passengers.
King gets the better of Johncock for once off to Foley who misses.
Rich 43
Adel 60
-
stuff me with a tonka truck that was so far out of bounds and he pays the mark.....
The rules of the game don't apply to the Crows today :yep
-
Preemptive tackles are another one that I see a lot of players getting away with lately. Tackling players before they have the ball and they aren't actually taking possession
-
foley -lmao
-
NICE work Rance!
-
Playing Jake out of the goal square to keep Johncock's rebound out of the game is not working for us. We have no marking target in the forward line and no crumber. It just doesn't seem right when you've got the wind
-
we dominated most of that quarter for very little reward, very frustrating.
-
Reckon Jake King might be a bit small for a lead up full forward.
Not up to it. Johncock is cutting us to pieces.
Tuck another miss. We've kicked 1.6 :scream
Half-time
Richmond 5.2 6.8-44
Adelaide 7.3 9.6-60
Goals: Vickery 2, Nahas, Morton, Jackson, Graham.
-
rubbish football, is Jack Riewoldt playing ????
-
we should be in front :banghead
-
1.6 with the breeze is a game losing quarter of football. Jack up on the wing, almost, where the ball ain't, Jake as a marking target, Vickery somewhere, but not a target. It's the same mystifying game plan as the third quarter with the wind in Cairns.
-
Yerp. Hopefully we tighten up in the second half.
-
Van berlo, Vince and Thompson have nearly 30% of the Crows possessions.
They need to find a way to shut them down.
-
It's clear we are not tagging any of the Crow's midfield, which is the Collingwood plan. But the Skunks mids run hard both ways, maybe even harder defensively than in attack.
Van Berlo and Thompson showing us how it is done.

Hitouts: 9 - 24 :P
Tackles: 39 - 37
Frees: 6 - 8

After all these years of everyone and their dog knowing our skills are crap, well they are still crap. When is it gonna change?
-
Add 82 handball receives to our 47.
54 short kicks to our 18
We have had more long kicks. 26 - 18.
The SEN commentator has Vickery in the bottom 5 despite two goals.
Jack, Miller and Grigg also in their bottom 5.
-
If we want to win, we need to play them one-on-one. Seems we want to play zones, though. Hope we've got a couple of strong bodied mids in our draft sights. Players who can run both ways.
-
reiwoldt is just a big sook
-
After all these years of everyone and their dog knowing our skills are crap, well they are still crap. When is it gonna change?
Yep disposals has been crap. Too many long aimless bombs rather than having players further up the ground doubling back and continually hitting up. The midfield hasn't been working hard enough both ways.
Nahas and Rance probably our best so far.
-
Miller centres towards Kingy but Johncock spoils it through for a point.
Adelaide then goes coast to coast for a goal :scream
Rich 45
Adel 67

Nice mark JR8

LOL Cotch tackled with a leg lock around his neck, free kick to adelaide
-
Free to Crows 48 m out. Point.
Lids gets himself in trouble from the kick-in hands to Houli to Rance under pressure tuirnover but Adelaide kick it OOTF.
Rich 51
Adel 68
Got to love how we get pinged for holding the ball when the one against the Crows in the 1st qtr wasn't ::).
-
Our pressure through the guts is absolutely pathetic... they are doing what they like on the rebound. Really disappointing.
-
Sums up why we are a bottom 4 side.
Absolute garbage football.

Another too easy rebound goal to Adelaide :banghead.
Vickery off holding his shoulder :-\. Hopefully just a stinger :pray.

Absolute credit to the boys for willing themselves back into the game in the 2nd half of that Qtr. Not easy to come back from 4 goals down at Bogan Park
-

Even more noteworthy considering the opposition has two extra players wearing green tops.

Good come back win playing away at Adelaide is rough as guts. These blokes have been belting us up for donkeys years too. Disagree about Jackson, he has busted his O-ring today and run his guts out.
-
poo win against a team under us -whooppee stuffing Doo!!
-
Cotch, interviewed by Glen Jacovich at the end of the game on Fox. Jaco said the spray from Dimma at quarter time was one of the most impressive he's heard for some time.
Cotch said it was good to see the boys respond in the second quarter?
-
Yeh,Great signs of improvement there -lol
-
Disagree about Jackson, he has busted his O-ring today and run his guts out.
Fair enough to disagree, Hooter. I think we've got too many one-way runners to play a zone.
-
poo win against a team under us -whooppee stuffing Doo!!
If we lost, you would've been going on about how we're pathetic for losing to a team below us. ::)
-
great win best of the yr
but i tell ya, im sick of seeing foley and jackson continually stuff up, at least farmer has worked on his issues and has been a contributor
great win
-
if we lost you would all be crying.
Instead you'll look for positives in beating a crap team and completely forget how poo they played in the first half and how they stoppped in the last when they thought they had it won.
Ominous signs.....again

Well we got smashed with their rebound running through the guts for a lot of the game early on, I am not sure if we were playing a zone, whatever was changed in the second part of the second quarter, it worked.
-
if we lost you would all be crying.
Instead you'll look for positives in beating a crap team and completely forget how poo they played in the first half and how they stoppped in the last when they thought they had it won.
Ominous signs.....again
We had 12 more shots on goal than them. We kicked inaccurately. We didn't play like poo.

For sure we picked up the pressure around the stoppages in the second quarter, but it seemed like we had at least one run-with player on van Berlo and another on Thompson in the second half.
I also thought I saw Tucky playing more in defense after half time, compared to playing mid.
They didn't get that free run through the middle as often in the second half

who spent the majority of time on gunston?, 5 goals is a great bag I could only sneak in a few mins at a time to listen in

Looked like it was the Mailman that got toweled by Norman, EEA.

Our first quarter was diabolical. The rest of it was either very good or competitive. :cheers
-
happy with the win but again lets not forget its Adelaide and now we could drop from to a late teen draft pick.
In a weak draft where it thins out from pick 10 i cant see the benefit in beating Adelaide i really cant.
we also won games late the last few seasons and what good did it do us.
Brackets is right you blokes are in denial. we beat Adelaide and its round 23.
where was that fighting spirit when it counted.

Too many hard questions Daniel. Hopefully it'll be different this time. Late wins in the past have killed us. Anyway whatever happens happens. Hopefully we still get at least 1 good kid in the draft but now even that looks difficult.
-
We need to be bold and trade out a 2nd tier player for another high pick. I'd rather have pick 10 but winning form may up the trade value of some of our 2nd tier. Jacko, Edwards, King, and Nahas all played well today after half-time. Holding onto them all will lead to a repeat of history.
-
I hope the bloke who put $3000 on Adelaide to win by over 100 points is feeling good :wallywink.

The idfference is the nature of the wins.
after going through a form slump, which when your base is not that high sends you to the depths...we have turned it around and won a game in which we were challenged.
So lets put it into some sort of perspective.
How long since Richmond have had a team able to win such a game?
Under wallace we were a team that if we got on top could hurt, but when the going got tough we crawled up in the foetal position.
Once the opponents got a few quick goals the floodgates would open, regardless of who they were.
This win showed spirit and we didnt crack like a Leigh Mathews' egg when we were 4 goals down.
Also interesting to note the players reaction when the siren went.

Edwards work in traffic today was simply brilliant at times. Didnt get a lot of wide ball which is probably why he had a good game. :P

In a compromised draft its hard to say about late season wins. I see the points for and against this year. I can see Adel beating Port in Bickley's first game.
I still think the Dogs will beat Freo and the Princesses can still beat Port next week so potentially we can still finish 13th assuming we lose to North.
Personally I loved the way we won today. 20 scoring shots to 4 at a venue and against a side that has put us to the sword over the years....
Whatever will be will be. Yep where was this effort in July and against Port and Gold Coast so I can understand how some people feel hollow about these late season wins but I think we have shown some good signs and maturity and maybe just maybe there may be more upside than we bargained for. Time will tell. Although I believe come round 1 next year against the Cheats we may not ein but we certainly won't be where we were at the corresponding time three years prior list wise.

poo win against a team under us -whooppee stuffing Doo!!
you would rather get cotch zero contested touchs?

nothing to do with him.
More to do with enjoying finishing the season, beating crap sides.
Why did we drop away against a crap team like Adelaide ??
We still have to find a ruckman among many others things.
Punt road needs to get militant in training and conditioning for next year, not to mention dropping guys from the list.
Pretty crap season in the big picture.
-
you need to get a grip Ox that win had all the hallmarks of the Great escape againt the Giant Killers of recent weeks, i need to pinch myself that it's real, who knows what this side is capable of :shh

No-one is deluded Ox, except those who think there is an instant fix for a developing team. They are a developing team and they are developing just nicely thanks. They are not crumbling under pressure when the game is close like it was today. Adelaide were on a streak. Some of the favorite whipping boys had corkers like Edwards, he was terrific today.
-
Forgetting about individuals for the minute I was most happy today about of forward pressure in the second half. We rarely allowed Adelaide to escape out the back when coming out of defence unlike in the first half where we allowed the Crows too much space to run and link up and get heaps of possession. We locked the ball in there after half-time and that allowed us to bombard the goals. 36 scoring shots is a good day's return on the scoreboard. Kicking 10.10 to 4.0 from the 10 min mark of the 3rd quarter is a smashing. It's now the job over the preseason to boost our fitness to be able to apply that pressure for 4 quarters rather than two and to learn to be mentality prepared so that it doesn't take a quarter or more to get defensively organised as a team.

They beat Brisbane, Gold Coast and Port in the last month.
Magnficent effort by the Crows ::) ::) ::)
-
WOW - Let's just beat norf next week! - GC and Port real misery games now :banghead
You can hang poo on "our team" as much as you like, haven't but deserve and could probably show as much as a Saints Swans Bombres in the first week at least.
Shame Carltank will play Eagles second week if they beat the bombres.
Easy to hang poo on your team when others can be picked apart just as much, we are getting there.

Bloody hell Tiges, 4 weeks ago a 5 week holiday to Europe was a good idea, another good result.
Hope the mrs has taped the games lol.
Never been a fan of getting excited about dead rubber wins, winning is great but winning when finals ladder position is on the line is a different ball game

Yep it was Post
Wasn't a good game by Post - did himself no favours yesterday.... to reactive at contest and poor in the decision making department - disappointing game

Thanks muscles, WP

yeah another win, its been a great last month :gotigers

Contact between Richmond's Dustin Martin and the Adelaide's Bernie Vince from the first quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. Martin tackles Vince and takes him to the ground. While the action of the tackle was a sling motion, a medical report from the Adelaide Crows Football Club stated there was no forceful high contact for player Vince. After reviewing all available footage, it was determined that no further action was taken.

didn't even know something was cooking against Martin. Good he got off..
-
Pleased with team attitude after half time. Pleased with King's effort in the second half. Missed some gettable goals so really could have buried them. Good for team confidence but not getting carried away with win. Got a lot of work to do.
-
Great game, good feeling pity it wasn't with something on the line.
All this talk about deslisting /trading is great stuff.
Is Newman untouchable?
In reality he would get us more than he is going to give. If we are going to be tough at the trade table would we trade Newman for Butcher?
-

Don't know, Ball was a past captain (1 year??)

Gieschen's "What's you decision?" video is up on the AFL website..
Rance pinged for deliberate rushed behind:
Giesch said Rance's intent despite fumbling was to get the ball across the line and so it's deliberate. They are going to be tough on this now. Giesch claimed that Rance wouldn't have fumbled the ball if he was a forward running into goal.
Cotch 'non-mark' which Adelaide got a goal out of
That was a mistake and Cotch should have received a free. Cotch took the mark and then had his arm chopped. Giesch said initially Van Berlo's fist wasn't far from the ball ???.
-
Geishan has one of those big bendy straws.
He uses it to felch himself.

You are a sick man al
I do hate the Geish

That's why Dusty fumbled the ball running into an open goal and almost stuffed it up hey Geisch ::) :stupid.
Seems Geisch now expects umps to be mind readers ::).
-
And so what the explanation regarding Johncock's deliberate smacking the ball over the boundary line then? He fumbled it ::)
-
Kanga coach Scott was on AFL Insider before and said to keep the rule simple and what it was meant for. To stop what happened in the 2008 grand final. Anything other than than is ok. :clapping

What about Johncock?
Edited: gutter talk :banghead
-
And so what the explanation regarding Johncock's deliberate smacking the ball over the boundary line then? He fumbled it ::)
That's not a Richmond player so that's okay ::). Ziebell's was the worst. He punched the ball from 15m out for a point facing the play and with no one around him yet that wasn't called deliberate (Giesch admitted at least it should have been a free).
As for Rance's, now Giesch expects the umps to be mindreaders ::).

No no Ziebell was under pressure...he plays for N0rt now that's gotta be constant mental pressure to play for that joke of a club and live up to the old "shinboner spirit"

Useless fanless characterless penniless nothingness footy club.

And don't forget they voted us to be kicked out the comp when we were down, lets kick the living crapier out of em I say and help them down into the pits of despair so we get to return the favor.

AFL UMPIRES manager Jeff Gieschen has warned that umpires will be tough on deliberate rushed behinds during the finals.
Gieschen endorsed a deliberate rushed decision against Richmond's Alex Rance in Adelaide on Sunday, and declared that North Melbourne's Jack Ziebell should have been penalised for punching the ball through for a behind against St Kilda on Saturday night.
In doing so, the umpires' boss signalled that whistle blowers would be vigilant on the rule in coming weeks.
"Richmond were under a little bit of pressure and they hit the ball back to Rance, but he wasn't under immediate pressure at the time," Gieschen said on What's Your Decision? on afl.com.au Tuesday night.
"When the ball was hit back to him he was pretty much in the clear, and he fumbled and bumbled the ball and took it across the line.
"We've been asked to be really strong with players who force the ball across the scoring line, particularly when they're not under a great deal of pressure.
"We want all players to be aware that they have a responsibility to try and keep the ball in play, particularly when they're not under pressure, and in this case Rance wasn't under immediate pressure."
