Tigers spring into action with new look

RICHMOND unveiled two recruits and a new club logo, with an extended contract for coach Damien Hardwick to be announced in coming months.

Ivan Maric and Steve Morris got their first taste of Punt Rd after being snapped up by the Tigers in the trade period.

Both are expected to make an immediate impact given ex-Adelaide tall Maric has been earmarked for the first ruck and SANFL midfielder Morris will play as a lock-down defender.

Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale said the club was finally ready to conduct full-length drills at Punt Rd after removing the cricket wicket that has marred the surface.

He was coy on the details of a new deal for Hardwick. But he will almost certainly be handed an extension on his contract this summer despite having one more year to run on his deal.

Gale said the Tigers were taking encouraging steps.

"The last couple of years has been about transformation in all aspects of the footy club and the new logo is consistent with that. We thought it was time to provide a new one which is slightly more stylised and contemporary."

On Hardwick's contract he said: "Damien knows where we are, we know where he is and we will sit down and consider that in the fullness of time."

Morris, son of 1973-74 premiership player Kevin, and former Adelaide ruckman Maric played against each other in the SANFL.

Maric said he could not wait to make an impact as a Tiger. "I always wanted to play at Richmond," he said.

While Morris said: "I have obviously wanted this for a long time and I couldn't be happier."

Richmond also announced yesterday it had delisted Ben Nason, Troy Taylor and Mitch Farmer along with six rookies, including former Bomber Tom Hislop.

Sorry Mr RFCO but I think once again the club has got this wrong >:( >:( if the info is good enough to pass on the the papers then it should have been good enough to pass on to the members FIRST! Once again the club is made a laughing stock! As if we don't already have enough disgruntled members :huh :huh

Traditional media in footy still dominates the landscape. Its gone up 3 hours early on the herald sun, its going to be on at midnight anyway, but the majority of people will see it tomorrow and our members and fans will have an email in their inboxes when they wake up. For the majority of people, it is tomorrows news.

In fairness to the Club TfT: I think the plan was for the members to get the info first, hence the plan of having the email out to members by 6.00am, unfortunately the HUN (again Ralphy) has gone early. It was mentioned there would be stuff int he papers later in the week not tomorrow

Personally I will be interested to read what people think of the whole thing once members get the email tomorrow and everything that will be in that

my position is the old logo was linked to one of the darkest eras in the clubs history, time to usher in a new era, symbolism is important...lets embrace it :gotigers

Apart from the logo, will there be a "rfc"or patriotic symbols such as other clubs?

Look, I understand what the club was trying to do but it was Mr RFCO's response that "we don't own the papers" that got on my goat!
Sure you don't own the papers but you do control what they receive from the club! It's not the first time the HUN has ignored an embargo and surly after strike two the club can now tell them to get stuffed and give them what they want a day later.
I know not every member is part of a forum so the large majority Will get the surprise email, but surly in this day and  age the club can cover all bases and make certain these embargoes aren't broken >:(
Just for the record, I actually like the logo ;)

For us regulars on fan forums it's no big deal but most Tiger members don't visit fan forums on the net nor trawl through the IP Australia website. The Club wanted it to be an exclusive for the majority of members to see first. It's one more little way to encourage supporters to become members.

should not have been a problem for the club to send out the email to the members at the designated time for the fan night to start. but then again maybe the AFL rules prevent the clubs from scooping the Hun. :wallywink

Personally I don't mind that we are extending his contract now just as long it's not a stupid 5 year deal or anything like that. Blind Freddy can see the last two seasons have been purely been development seasons and to tell you the truth I think it would be unfair on Hardwick to judge him on anything but getting games into player for the last couple of years.
We have curt 2/3 rds of our list in those two seasons and we still have another 10 to 12 players that aren't up to it that are yet to go.
Next season won't be a cakewalk but I think we will start seeing what Hardwick really has, no more coaches pets, no more playing players just for the sake of it, players will be made earn there place next season and unless they can prove us all wrong we should be seeing more of Jackson, Edwards, White, McGuane and even King plauying allot of footy in the seconds!
The club is turning a new leaf, a two year extension would be fitting but it's crunch time from here on in.................

we should have a team capable of making the 8. Finals should be our aim. If Hardwick turns out to be a dud then we should be effing peeed that we missed out on old Mick because we decided to add a few years on Dimmas contract ;D FWIW I reckon Dimma goes alright but why cant we just wait  :huh

Mick is done and dusted dude ;D He would send this club backwards in a hurry ;)
As far as making finals next season, I would love to see it but my biggest concern is with the following players, Conners, White, Thursfield, Jackson, McGuane, Webberly, Edwards, Brown, Dea, Derickx, Gourdis, Post, Moore, Graham, Foley, McDonald, Astbury and Griffiths. They have to have some kind of impact next season!! No more crap ball skills, no more refusing to run, no more refusing to tackle!! I have listed over half the side that need to Majorly improve before we can think about making finals.
Fingers crossd some of these guys can prove me wrong but there will be some necks on the chopping block next season, lets hope those players know who they are and pull there finger out........

Benny said something like, "Damien knows where we are, we know where he is and we will sit down and consider that in the fullness of time."

That doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement to me, so is it safe to assume that they are extending his contract?  I mean, if Benny said something like, "We have full confidence in the coach", that normally means they are getting ready to sack him.  So, having said, "consider {a contract extension} in the fullness of time", that must mean that the deal is done.  No?
