This game could have made us but will break us
The team will now lose confidence and turn to poo again.
Jack lids and Martin all could have made a statement today
All tried all did well but when it counted failed.
Big maric well done fought like a true soldier
Umpires can go get stuffed
-
Yep I'm gutted, it was there for the taking and we stuffing choked!
-
That's our club.... We have loser in our pod bones and DNA... We just don't know how to win
-
In the end, we got killed around the stoppages in the forward and back 50 arcs. The Eagles got the tap to advantage about four times. Thet cleared our attacks and scored from their attacks after stoppages.
Too good for us in the crunch time.

That's more a reflection on poor discipline from us than there brilliance, good sides don't allow so many easy take aways. We tightened up after half time, first half we gave them 4 or 5 cheapies by allowing them to waltz away. If we were harder and more disciplined from the start we should have rolled them!
-
Who is the stoppages coach? Lade? We need more work on the defensive stoppages and some set plays for the offensive ones. Winning a clear tap out would help on the offensive stoppages too!

there was also a lot of times we just were not clean enough which put extra pressure on the ball handler. that needs to improve to beat the top sides
-
If you cant see the improvement in our competitiveness against the top sides then you are blind.
Cant wait till we play some lesser sides
-
I would say both sides of the fnce have valid arguements.
That is a game we should've won but Eagles were just fraction too classy.
At some point, you got to believe
-
Yea im gutted, i get no solace from gallant efforts, sure it could have made us, only time will tell whether it breaks us , not sure why that would be , as there are still 17 rounds left ::)
-
They were just a little more polished in their finishing and and just a little smarter in how they played..thats all..it was good to see vicks and jack in the play a little more ,and also jackson to his credit kept us in touch early with some good strong arm work...we just need to get smarter and maybe a little more ruthless in how we play the game

The difference is our third tier.
I echo some of the sentiments.
You want to see the difference and take the umpires out of it.
Look at the effectiveness and efficiency of
Ashton Hams vs Robin Nahas.
There is your difference. If Ellis was not injured how Nahas was not subbed is beyond me.
Ellis would have made a difference in defence Nahas could still be out there now and would be doing pirouettes with the seagulls and getting tackled by the cleaners.
I too am shattered.
Could have been a breakthrough win instead I am hoping Port have had a brutal afternoon to help us next week at AAMI.
Gutted and shattered right now.
We should be at least 3-2.

Spot on Tucker
Why Ellis was subbed beggars belief. Nahas was back to his running around in circles like headless chook today
Yes I can see improvement but 2 weeks in a row we've lost games we shoukd have won but for costly skill errors & poor decision making.
Have to start nailing these games - we are 1 loss away from no hope of finals IMHO and that even though I've always thought we needed everything to go right to make finals, today are the days when we have to make things right
Absolutely gutted tonight

This is a good post.
I'll add that we just cant afford to carry 4-5 players each round who are ineffective. Neman, white, Vickerys, Nahas, Jackson, etc etc etc No wonder we can't beat the better teams, and trust me they aren't even playing that good. We have been lucky.

I actually thought Dooks, Vickery although not great showed some glimpses of the competitive beast so that bodes well.
I thought Jack was off with the pixies. Needs to keep things simple. Usually his field kicking is precise coughed the ball up from a free in the last that was costly.
White barely had enough time to get into the game that run on the railway side in the last should have gone to the top of the square not the pocket but anyway.
As bad as this sounds Jako was okay today kicked two goals and other than his clanger in the first used the ball okay if only he could find a target kicking it forwards other than kicking it backwards. I got to admit I liked his goal in the third but moving forward yep needs to be moved on.
There are another 6-8 needed in this cull at the end of the year with the aforementioned in the gun to prepare for the superdraft.
-
Im shattered too, but we are getting there. Need have a nice dip into the draft one more time.
-
Why does Newman ALWAYS stuffing take ages to decide where he's kicking to.
Is he wacko or spmething,ffs!!
And then he cracks it after the siren - come on,mate!! :-*
Another stuffwit who spends the game making up for killer mistakes.
When he's your captain- ur fu cked

Agree re Vickery, thought he attacked the footy with a lot more vigour this week which was the most pleasing thing

Thought Jack did some OK thigns and then did some ordinary things. I know they want him to be team focussed but really 45 out from goal early in the final qtr he shouldn't be trying to hit up a bloke 15 metres away. the team thing was for him to make a statement, have the shot and kick the goal = that's his job!
White barely had enough time to get into the game that run on the railway side in the last should have gone to the top of the square not the pocket but anyway.
Either that or pass to Miller and keep running to get the handball back then top of the square or have the shot yourself - thought it was a poor choice but anyway

But he as always managed to give a way a couple of really stupid frees - that one in the final qtr just in front of the inter-chage area for the puch in the back was just plain stupid
-
This was the game I'd thought we'd get belted..
After a decent crack at Geelong I thought 2 weeks in a row we can't match it with a top 4 side.
The fact that we prob should have beaten both Geelong and West Coast shows the improvement in this group. Funny to say I'm glad of the draw we've had, sets a tone of expectations for the season.
We could have ha the easy draw Essendon or Adelaide have been given but tells you little about your group beating on bottom 8 sides.
Biggest test is coming out and playing 4 qtrs against a team that we should beat in Port. If we come out next week and play at 70-90% then the last 2 weak efforts will go to waste.
-
vickers took a couple of those strong marks that became a trademark last year, pity he didnt always finish off :'(

I agree with Willy here. We need to have one a decent go in this draft. Use our first 2 picks wisely and use our compo wisely and we can make further ground. We need some more class.
-
Winners win and losers lose. We are still a loser team with loser mentality and still too many losers in the side. Hopefully by 2014 those losers will be gone, the culture changes and hope will translate to beleif and actually winning games. Like Geelong and West Coke, even though they're not playing so well they still end up winning.
This is what I hope will happen but the club has to get rid of losers and players with loser DNA and must have higher standards than they currently have.
-
Thought that was a copy paste but there was no mention of miller :sleep
-
Maybe it's just because i'm new and haven't had years and years of torment, but I'm really not shattered that we lost. I thought we should have won but I was fairly happy with some things I saw. I thought Jack played fairly good, and honestly this game was the first time i've seen Vickery do anything really. It sucks that we lost when we should have won, but i think losing by 10 to a top four team is decent. If we play the way we have the last two weeks in the upcoming games we should get a fair amount of wins.

An interesting stat for those who think we haven't improved. Here is the difference (improvement) from the last time we played each team:
59 points better against Carlton
50 points better against Collingwood
52 points better against Melbourne
52 points better against Geelong
47 points better against West Coast
I think some on here are guilty of not paying enough respect to the basket-case position we have come from. Crawl before you walk.
-
We went into the game too short. The Eagles got cheap goals in the 2nd which cost us because we were too short in the backline.Agree with comments about Ty playing an improved game. Disagree with the comments about Newman. Newman played a very good game. He didn't waste his disposals and his use of the ball was good. They had more polish when it was needed. If you are going to be critical then Jack should have kicked it long to the square rather than kicking it short and we missed some relatively easy set shots. I am not shattered becuase in the past we would have got thumped. Our attitude has improved if our skills can then we are going to be a very good team in the future.

There are NO EXCUSES[/colo
Actually Smokey, i fully agree! Whilst wins would be great and its disappointing to lose, the improvement is clearly evident. Next week is a dangerous game.

you repeatedly post proving how little idea of reality you have
we still have a loser mentality? based on what? the fact we were beaten by a better side :wallywink
the fact that on two seperate occasions we were down by 20 odd points but fought back against a top 4 side? :wallywink yeah real loser mentality!
want to see loser mentality? go back and have a look at 2009 season. If you cannot see any improvement in all aspects of the game, particularly not crumbling once a side a puts pressure on and getting flogged, then you are more clueless than i give you credit for.
-
Tigers are on the upward curve, last year after a horror stretch our percentage would of been irretrievable and we would of been penciling all those rematches in as certain shellackings. This time we are and I bet most of the teams we played are not sure how they will play out. Irritating as it is, we have improved, 5 solid weeks of back to back competitive performances against the best sides beats getting shellacked. If they keep the trend going we should dismantle lesser sides and polish our routines for the next top five encounter.
Feel free to discuss in a derogatory or positive manner!

right on Al, losers are those who give up when things look crap, out team is fighting it out til the final siren.

I've tried to point this out before, but to no avail. I even created a thread to gauge what peoples expectations were in weeks 3-5, but most of those who carry on the most when we lose wouldn't put it out there what they did expect.
as you say crawl before you can walk, but to continue the analogy we i reckon we have learned to walk, and we are are awfully close to running.
Over the next few weeks we do need to start putting wins on the board
-
as I mentioned elsewhere, I think Jack and Vickers are playing back into some fitness after their ops, and will get back into their best soon, they both showed glimpses of some match form against the eagles, when they click and join our much improved defence and midfield, we will be wafting our tiger musk all over the joint.
-
The topic tittle says it all - I am sh|t scared against Port this week :banghead

We really need a "Like" button on this site.
Showing far too much common sense here smokey.
-
Look ... I am as frustrated as the next tortured tiger soul . :banghead
However I dont think we have been this close to the competitions elite in over a decade.
If Choco Williams was our coach he would be saying we are the best 1-4 team in history.

I agree we've improved. But the loser mentality still exists at tigerland.
I've read posts about north and essendon written on here telling us they're on for a fall. Well north BEAT Geelong and essendon thrashed carlscum. We didn't.
Teams like ess, north, swans have a better culture and a winners attitude this is why despite all the experts predicting a fall they consistently play finals footy.
How many years did essendon spend out of finals in the last 15 years.
Facts are we have still got a long way to go. Until we get rid of losers and raise the standard we won't ever get to play consistant finals footy.

We are just a draft away from getting rid of the last vestiges of the old list and I think the new players in general are better. Only time will tell. I can probably pick 6-8 of the players to go already and sorry Jackson isn't one of them, his age is just too right, you keep him around as a spare but his opportunites as a firsts player next year would be limited I would think.
