Richmond may park cash underground
Michael Warner
From:Herald Sun
June 08, 2012
RICHMOND'S Punt Rd Oval has been earmarked as the site for a giant underground carpark.
The Tigers have had preliminary discussions about the project with Victoria's urban renewal authority, Places Victoria.
Richmond Station is set to undergo a multi-million-dollar revamp with plans for residential and office towers in the Brunton Ave precinct.
One idea would see a carpark built beneath Richmond's training ground with the Tigers sharing in the operating profits.
But Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale said the development could be years away.
"There's a multi-faceted development of Richmond Station being considered - commercial, retail and residential - and a carparking solution might be a part of that," Gale said.
"But that's got to require a full-blown feasibility study and they've got to get the funding for that.
"It's highly speculative at this stage.
"These things take years, but we've got a responsibility to consider it."
The Tigers will begin work on a $1.9 million redevelopment of the Punt Rd Oval surface later this month, leaving players seeking a new training venue for the rest of the season.
Gale said the club hoped to play VFL and under-18 football at the ground within five years.
The ground is being reconfigured into an Etihad Stadium-sized oval without the impediment of cricket wickets.

Get it done Benny!!
But seriously wouldn't a carpark under the ground make the ground rock hard like etihad is with their underground car park?

That's just the way the ground is. The carpark at Punt Rd would be pretty far under Neath, followed by layers of Earth. I remember when I used to have a kick on the Gabba, that felt like cement with stubble and there is no carpark under that.
But yeah.. Cha-Ching!

Does this mean, that possibly down the track we will have to re-do the re-done surface of Punt Road Oval>?? :rollin :shh

Maybe, but even with that being the case the revenue would be worth it. yes do it know if you can.

Running car parks can be a very decent business revenue and profit wise if the car park is a good one and one underneath our ground would be a very very good one indeed.
-
Good parking option for supporters of a VFL side one would think. ;)

Funny article.
Original plans for re-development was for it to have a car park underground. Didn't happen for a couple of reasons mainly the council & the dollars.
  ;D

Seems like an expensive way to make no money and feck up our training facilities. Core business = premierships.

Imagine the $$ we could get for charging $10-$20 for parking at every MCG game. (not just Richmond games)
Tigers members (at least 11 games) get in for free or a discounted amount $5-$10.
Would pump up our memberships even more, and give us big bucks in the long-run!

HRT, its actually a little pot of gold and very very low maintenance.

Maybe but
Seems an ecpensive and time consuming exercise

Excavation costs would be massive, even if it was single level, and then we'd at best only be a 50-60% share in the ongoing revenue.
Let due diligence take its course.

Gee talk about an absolute money tree...we should e seeking further government funding for 1000 lot car park to better serve the community..... :shh

Money tree or money pit :shh whoa

Have you ever complained about the Grog Squad? Seems like you are very toucy about my support for our supporter group and your in here looking for my posts lol. So tell us - have you been one of the clowns who have complained about the Grog Squad?

Money tree or money pit :shh whoa
But wouldn't it be lovely knowing that we are charging premium car-parking prices to the members of other Clubs week-in, week-out 8)
-
Rampo, I couldnt give 2 poos about the grog squad as for tracking you - more paranoid than Alex Rance ;D
It is just a silly idea, think of the work involved vs the benefit?
Unless someone else bears the cost to build it but why?

Instead of behaving like a tool why dont you stick up for our supporters? It seems you're more intent on taking the side of the enemy - stop acting the moron and just stick up for the Richmond supporters.

I'm a supporter yet you call me a moron, if you going to stand for something the least you can do is be consistent.
As for the Grog Squad, I'm happy for them like all tiger fans to enjoy themselves at the football.
What this has to do with the absurd idea of digging up our ground to build an undercover car park, then cover it and make a new ground and then expect to make money is beyond me.
It costs $1.5m to resow the ground this year, what would the above cost?
burnmoney@puntrd.com
You a parking attendant, if so what would the receipts be each year?

The government and developers would be paying most of the money for the development IMHO not Richmond. Ive never been a car park attendant but if someone offered me the chance to own a decent car park I wouldnt say no. I heard if you get a good one you make great dollars.
-
As I posted earlier, if someone pays to do all of the excavation cost, building costs and resurfacing etc that may be different but it still creates huge disruption to the preparation of a club whose playing list should be building towards a flag and our training surface at PR was identified as a critical success factor.
-
just out of interest whats the surface like at places like princess park where carlton train,or windy hill with the Dons train..is it that much better than Punt road?.i have been to the western oval recently and that aint crash hot either.
-
good luck with this project :lol
